To add on to this thread, I always thought it was hillarious how many people took credit for the nWo angle (from when it originally started). I mean, I've heard it credited to, or the following people take credit for it: - Eric Bischoff - Paul Orndorff - DDP - Kevin Nash and Scott Hall - Dusty Rhodes Probably forgetting a few as well.

I think Austin's wife at that time was still Lady Blossom (forget her real name), but she was his manager when he first debuted in WCW in the early '90s.

Why do people on this board hate Scott Keith so much? Sure, a lot of stuff he says you might disagree with, and he doesn't seem to enjoy wrestling very much anymore, but that's not a reason to crucify the guy. Now his haircut, that is at least something legitimate to make fun of.

Vote for a new Batista shirt design on WWE.com

#1 looks like it would be popular with female WWE fans. I kind of like it, to be honest...it has a wierd retro/sci-fi look. Doesn't fit a guy nicknamed "the Animal" like someone else said, though. -
Yeah, and it rocked, IIRC.

That's about what it amounts to. Doug Melvin has been a very good GM for the Brewers thus far. This is the same guy who traded Richie Sexson to the D'backs for six guys (Counsell, Spivey, Overbay, Moeller, Capuano, and De La Rosa), and Sexson ended up playing for the D'backs for about six weeks total before getting injured, and then going to Seattle the next season. That trade basically laid the foundation for the Brewers having an 81-81 record in 2005, and looking at possibly being a wildcard threat in 2006.

As one other poster mentioned, Danny Kolb was traded from the Braves to the Brewers for Wes Obermueller (who pretty much struggled this past season). Kolb had been traded from Milwaukee to the Braves last off-season for Jose Capellan. Nice trade for the Brewers...I think their pitching coach Mike Maddux (who, yes, is the brother of _that_ Maddux) can get him back to his 2004 form. Of course, they don't really need him to be a closer, since they have Derrick Turnbow on staff (who had 39 saves this past season). Kolb is also noted as being the pitcher who came in to pitch during the second inning of the 2004 All Star Game, after the much hyped Roger Clemens gave up six runs in the 1st inning in his home town. Of course, Kolb closed down the side while the announcers rambled on about Clemens.

Not to nit-pick, but in Civ 3, cities from rival civs would also defect to your civ if your culture was stronger.

Yeah, I think a TV show related announcement is probably what it is going to amount to. I'm kind of doubting they'll be running head to head with RAW, seeing as how there is zero evidence of that. I think a Thursday night slot would be much more likely (capitalize on the established Smackdown audience, etc). Plus, note that the ad on TNA's site says "2006".

Rise and Fall of the World Bodybuilding Federation
Dobbs 3K replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in General Wrestling
I believe that is accurate. Lex basically had to start wrestling to justify the money he was making. As far as Vince's ventures outside the WWE...I think one problem is that he always tries to start at the top right away, at least with the WBF and XFL. It took years for him to build up the WWF. But with WBF, he started out with PPVs and signing a bunch of expensive bodybuilding guys right away. With the XFL, he started with this big long season and big TV deal on NBC. There wasn't any slow build up or anything. -
I wish Chavo would use the brainbuster he was using for a while as his finisher. He could still bust out the frog splash once in a while, but it shouldn't be his finisher, especially once RVD comes back, because Van Dam's five star is probably the best frog splash in wrestling. Especially when he hits it on a chair and then does the whole "rolling around, clutching his chest in pain" bit on the mat to sell it.

I don't care for the divas, but they make WWE a lot of money, so that is what they care about. I'll give Christy credit though...she was the only one in that diva search to show any personality, or any real desire to get the job. Most of those other chicks just came off as "yeah, my agent got me on this stupid wrestling show competition so I could pad my resume." And yeah, it seemed like she was trying to get better in the ring. I mean, remember how bad Trish Stratus was when she started wrestling?

Yeah, the whole angle with Shelton and HBK could be interesting, as long as they keep building up Shelton. HHH and Steph getting back together...I can't believe I'm saying this...wouldn't be so bad at this point. HHH needs something to do right now, and frankly, HHH and Steph running RAW a few years ago lead to some of the best TV that WWE has ever produced.

I liked it. Being a huge Freebird fan, it was nice to see Hayes actually get to do something, since he's probably one of the all time best on the mic. My guess is this might lead to them bringing in Terry Gordy's son, Ray, though I have no idea for sure.

LOL...I remember my friend had a Sega Game Gear (which was actually a much better system than the Game Boy, as it was full color), with Mortal Kombat. I don't remember if you actually needed a code to get the blood, but it was ridiculous to see it...it was this blocky red stuff that just flew all over the place. Picture a bunch of red # symbols flying from a guy's head in big rainbow patterns.

Yeah, good for him, and good for WWE. I was just thinking how RAW has been somewhat more bearable without JR screaming his catch phrases and having a heart attack every time something happens.
-
Yep, it happened. I thought they had a match in the early '80s too in like, the Missouri NWA territory, but I could be wrong. This is from 1976 (probably the match mentioned earlier in the thread).
-
At least the angle where Mongo joined the Horsemen was surprising and fairly well done. Roma joining just came off as him being a cheap replacement for Tully Blanchard (who everyone was expecting).
-
I don't think Rock wants much to do with wrestling anymore, regardless of loyalty to WWE. I think he's trying to get away from the "wrestler turned actor" stigma.
-
Can't believe no one has mentioned this: Steve Austin breaking into Brian Pillman's house, and Pillman firing a pistol at him, just as the cameras cut out.
-
How about DX appearing on the titantron on one episode of RAW, and making it appear that Billy Gunn was raping Stephanie McMahon?
-
Similarly, you could count Great Muta, circa 1989 NWA, where certain colors of his mist could cause different levels of damage, including one color that could supposedly blind someone permanently.
-
Sounds like it was a slow news day at the Torch, so they made something up that has no way of being proven of disproven.
-
I guess if those count, so do Rock and Austin surviving their respective "vehicular homicide" attempts. HHH probably wins because he was on TV fine and dandy the very next week. Not to make light of his death, but as far as superpowers, Owen Hart as the Blue Blazer had the ability to "fly", surprising opponents on more than one occasion. Hurricane always acted like he thought he had super strength, at least when the gimmick started. Does Jerry Lawler throwing fireballs in Memphis count, since the marks probably thought that was real?
