I would still take Cole and Tazz over Ross and the King any day of the week... Michael Cole _has_ gotten better in the last three or four years. At least he actually calls some of the moves that happen in the ring, rather than just calling everything a "hard shot" or "high impact move" like he used to. I seriously recall watching a match he was calling a few years ago (I don't remember who was in it), and I don't think he called ONE SINGLE MOVE by its proper name, other than maybe the finisher during the whole match.

Fortunately, he has the body to pull it off.

Why can't WWE do any angles 1/10th as big or creative as this now? It would definitely get people talking. I agree that some parts of it were slightly weak, like Bradshaw staying low for five years and Angle joining the group, but overall I really enjoyed it. I also question whether WWE could use Bret Hart in a storyline like that. I bet he would sue them over defamation of character or something. Oh well.

Is Smackdown better than Raw right now?
Dobbs 3K replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
I guess I am enjoying Smackdown a little bit more right now. The Cena/JBL feud has been more entertaining than HHH/Batista. On the downside, I was excited that they were actually _doing_ something with Booker T, and having him feud with Angle, a guy he could actually have good matches with...but then they did this stupid angle with Sharmell (who actually is a good idea to have around Booker T, since it freshens his character somewhat, and she can talk). On the plus side, the Eddie/Rey angle has been great. Paul London and the other Cruiserweights put on solid matches, and there has been little Undertaker to crap up the show lately. Teddie Long is also much less annoying than Bischoff. So yeah...until RAW gets some fresh things going, I think Smackdown is better right now. The whole taped vs live thing doesn't matter to me, as I purposely avoid the spoilers. -
It's funny how bad the WWE women's division is on RAW right now...even Stacy Kiebler acknowledged how basically they're on hold right now in a recent interview, since Trish Stratus is injured.
-
How come know one gives him a donkey kick to the groin to break it? I seriously have no idea who might break it...maybe Viscera? I really hope not, but I could see them going with him, seeing how he's big and has been getting a push lately. I figure it might be some new guy from OVW, but I haven't kept up with who might be coming up soon. I'm thinking it will be during or after the draft...maybe someone like Heidenreich comes over to RAW and challenges Masters, and ends up breaking the hold. Or maybe Tyson Tomko turns face after Christian goes to Smackdown? Not really exciting possibilities, but they _have_ been doing a good job building this finisher as being credible, at least, so when someone does break it, it will be something of a big deal. On a side note...what was the deal with Masters beating Stevie last week? He injures the guy, and then gets to basically squash him again? At least the match was half decent...it seemed like they were kind of being stiff with each other, but maybe I was just imagining things.

ECW: Is it the future brand of pro wrestling?
Dobbs 3K replied to iliketurtles's topic in The WWE Folder
I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that even if Vince did bring back ECW, and somehow there was an ECW TV show again (be it on USA or another network), the whole thing would be potentially so badly booked and "WWE-ized" that people wouldn't watch it, and eventually Vince would have to pull the plug. Then he could finally say that he really did beat every other promotion, and it would just be WWE forever I mean, does anyone really believe that they actually learned from their mistakes with the Invasion angle? -
I was just going to say Dibiase in his original WWF run. He was one of the few guys I could never see going face, though he eventually did in WCW, due to the whole nWo angle. Earthquake in his first WWF run was quite a heel...I remember what a big deal it was when he squashed Hogan on the Brother Love show.

I don't know...I could see some kids turning that into a joke as well. You know, "oh, call the cops again, they're not going to do anything anyway" type of thing. I personally believe that kids need punishment if they're going to act up, and I can't think of any better way to scare them straight then to give them a good slapping if they act up. Bus drivers and teachers shouldn't have to take shit from any of them.
-
What was the bus driver supposed to do? Society ties the hands of people like that who are supposed to be babysitters and get paid crap for doing it, and yet he's not allowed to defend himself? WTF?

My list is going to be limited to current baseball players, as that is the sport I follow most: Like: Bill Hall Lyle Overbay Junior Spivey Ben Sheets (OK, so that's enough Brewers) Scott Rolen Hideo Nomo Eric Gagne Ichiro Suzuki Dislike: Gary Sheffield (I was at his first major league game, and loved him after that, but he was a total jerk in Milwaukee) Barry Bonds Ken Griffey Jr. Sammy Sosa Carlos Zambrano Pedro Martinez

I didn't care for WWF in 1999 so much...a lot of it seemed like it was booked basically the same as 1998, which of course was a tremendous year. The matches were REALLY short throughout the year on TV as well, as you can see in the match results. WCW sucked that year, though, so I'm sure I still watched WWF more at the time.

Guantanamo Bay “has become the gulag of our time"
Dobbs 3K replied to cbacon's topic in Current Events
Funny how the Arabs can go to the streets to protest the US allegedly desecrating the Koran, but if they dared to protest their own governments, they would end up worse off than the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. -
Lex Luger in WCW 1996 cutting a promo on the nWo and saying something about "W.W....I mean, WCW." Everyone on the 'net at the time jumped on it, thinking he was hinting that he was joining the nWo...when really he just messed up.
-
Well, they haven't ported any of the last dozen or so Fire Pro titles (GBA games aside), so I wouldn't hold my breath for this one.
-
Yeah...that sucks for me too. PS2 is the one system (other than Gamecube) that I haven't really bothered with since the SNES...I mean, I've had N64, PS, Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox, etc...don't know if I want to go out and get a PS2 just for this, but it sounds tempting. Does anyone know if American guys will be in it (I mean current guys...not counting legends and guys in Japan)?

Sid Vicious was over because unlike most everyone in WCW he was booked as being invincible. He just had this aura about him that he could destroy basically everyone. And he acted like he was legit psycho and could snap at any moment. You knew you didn't want to piss the guy off. Dan Spivey should've been more over, though...almost as big and scary, but a much better worker. Just didn't seem to have Sid's charisma, I guess. (Waylon Mercy gimmick aside).

ECW One Night Stand matches announced
Dobbs 3K replied to WrestlingFan4Ever's topic in The WWE Folder
I'm actually surprised...the line up for One Night Stand actually looks really good. I'm surprised they aren't going with Lance Storm vs Chris Benoit, since I thought Storm wanted to wrestle Benoit really bad before he retires permanently, but Benoit vs Eddie should be really good too. As far as the Douglas show...it doesn't look that appealing to me. Raven vs Sandman is a match that _should_ be on PPV. As far as the main event...Douglas hasn't been a good worker in years, Terry Funk is really damn old, and Sabu is broken down from what I understand. Their original triple threat match was overrated due to ECW's hyping of it. No thanks, not going out of my way to get a tape on this one, I think. -
My problem with the build up is that NO MATCHES have been announced yet. Heck, we don't even officially know ANY of the wrestlers that will actually be appearing yet. I hope they correct that very quickly.
-
I can't believe they'd do a scaffold match with four guys that old. The matches weren't any good back in their heyday anyway.

To clear up the confusion, "Justin Hawk Bradshaw" made his WWF debut in late '95 or early '96 (I'm not sure of the exact date). He dressed like a fairly generic cowboy in red tights and was a heel managed by "Uncle Zebekiah" (aka Dutch Mantell). He carried a bullrope and branding iron which he used to "brand" opponents after he beat them. I think he turned on Zebekiah eventually, though I don't remember exactly. After that he transitioned to the New Blackjacks tag team with Barry Windham. He was usually called "Blackjack Bradshaw" during that time. The WWF didn't really do much with the team, though I think I remember a brief feud with the Godwinns. Then Windham turned on him, joining the NWA faction, so Bradshaw turned face. Around that time they started just refering to him as "Bradshaw" (similar to Bill Goldberg being "Goldberg"). He still dressed like a Blackjack for a while, and teamed briefly with TAKA Michinoku, and then Terry Funk, who he turned on. From there he quickly was recruited by the Jackyl and formed the Acolytes with Farooq. Most of you should remember the rest, like the Acolytes turning face and becoming the APA, Bradshaw's reign as Hardcore Champion, etc.

I almost never had a chance to see either show anyway, so I don't really care that much. Like another poster said, it might be nice to see Paul London vs Akio or Val Venis vs Simon Dean, but if the match doesn't mean anything, who really cares?
-
The father is the Genetic Jackhammer, Vincent K. McMahon himself.

I think Duggan looks fine for his age in that pic (he's probably, what? In his late 40's or early 50's?)...don't know why everyone is picking on the guy so much. It's not like he was ever a really handsome guy to begin with.

I think it's funny that people are already deciding which of the next consoles they will get even though none of them have been released and no one really knows what titles will be available at launch yet. All the misinformation and crap...it's really hillarious to me. Personally, I can't believe all these new consoles are coming out already, at basically the same time. It seems like the Gamecube and Xbox just came out a couple years ago (I know it's been more like four, but geez...) Are there that many gamers that are really sitting around thinking "Man, the graphics on my Xbox look like garbage, and all these games feel like Pong...Microsoft really needs to come out with a new system now?" I can kind of understand the PS3...I mean, PS2 has been out for what? Almost seven years now? I still play my Dreamcast a lot (a system that should have done fine, but what did you expect when the gaming stores that carried it barely promoted it or gave its games shelf space?...prefering to suck Sony's dick)...just for Fire Pro D. I don't think I'll be hitching onto the bandwagon of any of these new systems yet.
