WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Dobbs 3K replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
nWo (WWF Version: 2002) Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, X-Pac, The Big Show (Giant), Ric Flair, Booker T., Shawn Michaels I vaguely remember Ric Flair joining...but can't remember how that came about? It really should have never happened...Ric Flair being in the nWo just seems wrong. The WWF nWo basically sucked the entire time it existed. -
Frankly, I'd probably be more interested in seeing Anvil at a local show then someone like HTM or Bundy or the Bushwhackers who have all done about a bazillion indy shows in Wisconsin.

I know this wasn't a match, but I specifically remember Steve Williams attacking Bart Gunn in the ring while Jim Ross was confronting him, and giving him some sick suplexes, including a backdrop driver. Anyone else remember that?

Mercy Drive comments on Randy Orton's theme song

I don't think it's Christian Rock...it's more like "completely boring and unoriginal coporate rock" in the vain of Creed that's the problem. -

Man, all this nWo stuff makes my head hurt...I don't even remember half of this stuff anymore...and it all happened a little over five years ago. -

As far as DDP, I always thought he should have beat Hogan for the title in early '98 (I think it was around then) when he had massive face heat. By '99 he had already lost a lot of his steam. -
Anyone who actually thinks Bush is evil is cracked. I think he does have good intentions most of the time, but the ways he has gone about initiating his policies has been, as you said, inept...and I think it has cost the US credibility in the world. Whether that matters is another debate entirely.

How have the Ten Commandments ever hurt anyone? It's not like if they are displayed on public property, that anyone is being forced to read them or follow them. This country was founded primarily by Christians. The Ten Commandments are a huge part of the foundation for those people's views. To ignore that is to ignore the truth of history. It really gets to me when people try to discount the actual beliefs of our founders, and try to fall back on extremist interpretations of this country's laws. Here's the actual first amendment that is so often misquoted: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. " It says "make no law". It doesn't say that public expressions of religious belief are forbidden, or that acknowledgment of religion as a part of this country's history is forbidden, either. Why do some people hate Christianity and religion in general so much? I think it's because they resent the fact that some people can have faith in something they don't understand. I really think it's a feeling of inadequacy that leads them to lash out against the majority religion of this nation.

Do we really need more on the Montreal incident? It's been 8 years...do people really care anymore? The whole thing has been over-analyzed and rehashed to death so much that I personally don't have any interest in seeing a documentary on the thing, especially since we already had "Wrestling With Shadows."

Personally I didn't think the match was that bad...maybe winning the US Title will help Orlando Jordan move up the card (hey, I'm not crazy about the guy, but Smackdown needs more "names"). I guess Cena losing means he is pretty much a lock to win the WWE Championship at WM21. WWE did the same thing with Orton dropping the IC strap before winning the World Heavyweight Title.

The rest of the world actually thinks George W. Bush has dictatorial-like powers, because their media distorts things, and the liberal side of our own media makes him out to be a lying war-monger. George W. Bush is a lot of things, and I didn't vote for him, but he's not a dictator and the US government definitely doesn't control the media (of course they influence some of the pundits, etc, but that's not what we're talking about). The rest of the world makes the US out to be the devil, so that their own people don't think the governments they live under are so bad.

I don't think anyone actually gives Ann Coulter any credibility. And IMO, Sean Hannity is just a shill for the Republican Party. Have you ever heard the man criticize President Bush even once? Frankly, I think if some of the things Bush is doing had been done by Bill Clinton, people like Hannity would have raked him over the coals...but since it's a Republican president, he can do no wrong. Personally, I enjoy Michael Savage...I don't agree with everything he says, but he actually takes Bush to task on things he doesn't agree with. I also think Savage is right when he talks about the constant attacks on US culture, and I agree with most of his views on immigration.

I wish Cena would wrestle like he did when he first showed up and wrestled Kurt Angle. Now he seems to be a slightly more generic version of Steve Austin in the ring. I don't like the F-U either...it is basically just a bodyslam out of a fireman's carry. It doesn't really look deveastating, because he doesn't follow the guy down like he used to (as in a real DVD). The other problem I have is that his character is SO gimmicky...he has the whole chain gang thing, his chain he wears, the blurred out merchandise and the "Word Life" bands, etc. Plus, up until last night, he had the "turntable" US Title. It is kind of overbearing. It seems like it's all a big crutch for his character.
-
I think they started the first broadcast with Steve Austin making a speech...also, every week on RAW Jim Ross would be shilling the XFL, and telling people to beg their newspapers to carry XFL box scores (this was by middle of the season when it was obvious the league was tanking).
-
Uh, I think you're overestimating on some of that stuff...and I highly doubt the show will go more than 4 hours.

IGN lists the release as March 8, which I believe is accurate. I really hope this game lives up to expectations...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...MNGIJBF3LP1.DTL I thought it was interesting...it seems like some black American civil rights leaders are complaining that black African immigrants are passing them by. Discuss.
-
I guess I just don't get why the supposed "black leaders" in this country can't move on and find consctuctive ways of helping their communities, rather than whining that African immigrants are doing better than they are.

Why are Furnas and Kroffat in a pic with Rhodes and Zenk? I didn't think all four of those were in WCW at the same time.
-
Owen beating Bret at WM X.
-
I think Ric Flair vs Ronnie Garvin would have to be up there (after Garvin won the World Title), since Garvin basically disappeared before the rematch because no one wanted to put him over, and it was a given that Flair would win the rematch.
-
Yeah...Jindrak will probably be better off as a face (at least, I assume he'll be the face).
-
Yeah, it's like "we want blacks to succeed...but only blacks that have been here longer."
-
I'm trying to remember how that all came about. I think Jim Cornette was behind it. Why did they have that match between Jarrett and Windham for the NWA North American Title? And what was the point of bringing in the Rock & Roll Express? Were they actually planning on having an NWA vs WWF feud at some point?

I'm not even sure who the other guys were that played Doink from that period. I think Steve Lombardi was one of them, but I'm not sure on that either.
