I liked London's new look. The coat is a tad extravagant, but at least they are trying to give the guy some kind of personality, rather than just looking like a white version of Funaki.
-
Yeah, I liked Tatanka a lot during his "undefeated streak". I know he wasn't the best worker, but for the time he seemed good (I mean, compared to guys like Warlord and Bastion Booger, the guy was Ricky f'n Steamboat). I was MAD when Ludvig Borga beat him in a total screwjob match, and wanted him to get revenge really bad. I also thought he should've beat Michaels and had at least a short IC title run. I think WWF dropped the ball with him when they turned him heel, or maybe he just pissed off someone in management.

As far as Jimmy Hart, I think Cornette believes Hart was one of the best Memphis managers in the '80s, but not an all time great in the wrestling world or anything.

Could Van Dam be a viable WWE main eventer?
Dobbs 3K replied to Superfly Snuka's topic in The WWE Folder
RVD has been consistently over with the crowd, even after WWE's attempts to bury him repeatedly, so I see no reason why he can't main event and draw money. -
Wrestlemania at Miller Park _would_ be awesome, under the retractable roof. Plus it's a park that isn't all generic looking like every single other arena WWE runs in. I may try to make the trip down to Chicago for the next WM, we'll see. Of course, tickets are gonna be tough to get because the All-State Arena isn't even all that big, is it?

Yeah, I think Dennis Coraluzzo (sp?) actually appeared with Jim Cornette on air when the angle started.

Yeah, that's why I didn't get it...it seemed like they had no long term plan for it at all. I thought maybe they were bringing in the North American title to have another midcard belt (since their roster had gotten fairly big by that point, with a pretty good amount of "over" midcarders), but I think the European belt was already around by that point anyway... I think I remember rumors that they were going to bring in Nikita Koloff to be part of it, though that probably would've been a massive failure. I did mark out for the "New Midnight Express" though. I thought Bart Gunn and Bob Holly actually made a really good team, and it made sense to stick them together since they weren't doing anything solo (ahem...maybe WWE should do stuff like that again???). They had a very good match against the NAO at a PPV, too.

Cornette was never head booker...but after that period Vince definitely gave Russo a lot more control.

The thing I liked about WWF in '96 and '97 is it seemed like they were actually trying to do new things and you couldn't tell exactly which direction the company was going. Don't get me wrong, '98 was a great year, but after that it seemed like WWF fell into just being repetitive and formulaic, and they really haven't gotten out of that yet, IMO.

I'd have to go with Arn and Eaton...I thought they gelled really well. The Enforcers were a good team, but Eaton definitely trumps Larry Z. as a worker.
-
Honestly, I think it's partly his name. I just can't imagine hearing: "Here is the winner of the match, and the NEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW World Heavyweight Champion...CHRISTIAN!"...he needs at least a last name. Maybe he could be called Christian Cage like in his indy days.

"Wonder Years" DVD's possibly in the works
Dobbs 3K replied to Spaceman Spiff's topic in Television & Film
Yeah, I know. Because it was supposed to be like real life. It just would have been nice if Kevin and Winnie could've gotten together, but I guess in a way it was good they didn't. Maybe that is the kind of thing that made the show so great. -
Um...maybe this thread should stick to match-ups that actually could have happened...the two guys (or tag teams) should have been in the same promotion at the same time, but did not face each other. Sure, Hulk Hogan vs Lou Thesz never happened, but how could it have?

"Wonder Years" DVD's possibly in the works
Dobbs 3K replied to Spaceman Spiff's topic in Television & Film
The only thing I didn't like was how in the final episode...that final monologue just felt kind of tacked on to provide artificial closure. I dunno...maybe it was just kind of depressing since the narrator says that Kevin marries a different girl and his dad dies like two years later. Didn't seem like much of a happy ending to me. -
I have the Nomad Zen Xtra 30GB MP3 player from Creative, and I really like it. I think they sell for about $199 new. It is slightly bigger than an iPod, but seems like a good lower cost alternative. The software it comes with is good and pretty user friendly, and I was able to quickly burn a good chunk of my CD collection onto it. Also, from what I understand, the sound quality it offers is superior to the iPod.

Raw House Show Reports (2-19, 2-20)
Dobbs 3K replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
"Hassan def. Jericho x2 Flatliner w/ Jericho taking Davari out with Walls" And that is why Jericho will never be a major main eventer again. His character is still making that same stupid mistake six years after debuting for WWF. -
"Doug Williams and Too Cold Scorpio Vs. Ogawa and Misawa for the GHC Tag Titles " Sounds cool to me. I was wondering if anyone has the infamous match of Hulk Hogan vs Harley Race where Race gets injured on the table? I haven't seen that in year...
-
OK...I'm going to post Vader vs Don Frye later tonight. (Match is from Japan, not sure of the year).
-
This isn't so much strange as it was funny... I think it was late '96 or early '97, but my memory is hazy. It was an episode of RAW, and HBK and Bret Hart (IIRC) were having an argument over who should get the next shot at the title...I think Sid was champion. Anyway, Undertaker's music starts playing and the crowd goes nuts as Undertaker makes his way to the ring. Someone in the crowd audibly yells "YOU'RE GONNA GET IT NOW!" at the guys in the ring. I don't know why, but I thought that was awesome at the time.
-
Let's keep this thread going. I have to get back to work, but I'll try and load another match tonight.

And yet, people will still scream every year before WrestleMania about how WWE "just has to induct Bruno, otherwise the whole Hall of Fame is a sham," not noting that the man doesn't want to have anything to do with it.
-
It would be hard to cram in between all the weekly TV shows, and the two or so PPVs every month... Also, I'm not sure any of the networks other than UPN would really want to touch WWE right now...it's not exactly a hot property at the moment.
-
"The picture of Harley Race that would show up when His injury was mentioned in 88." I don't remember this one...what was this about?

Not even posting the link...even worse than my pet peeve of posting a non-working link

Boy, I really haven't kept up with the punk stuff since leaving college...I don't recognize about three-quarters of the bands on that list But I guess I'm more into the "old school" stuff like Rancid and Social D than the newer stuff now.
