Well, it's just going to make the Republicans look like even bigger idiots, since new data is saying that we will start to turn things around economically in the early fall of this year, not in a year or two like some were predicting. Also, somewhat related...I saw a really compelling news story on PBS the other day about Cuba's impending economic boom (oil discoveries and new resorts going up). Any chance Obama could finally open up relations with that country so it's not just Canada and Europe making money off a country 50 miles from our coast?

Holy crap. I'm not sure what was stupider, this, or "Loose Change: 2nd Edition." I just love how anyone can be a film maker these days on a computer, throw together a bunch of vaguely related clips, and suddenly it's supposed to present a strong case for their crack pot views.

Christ on economics: "Give to God what is God's, and give to Caesar what is Caesar's." Clearly, you can base a whole economic policy on that.

What was the exact reason for AOL Time Warner canceling the WCW shows anyway? I know supposedly they wanted to get away from the "low rent" appeal of wrestling (and anyone tuning into WCW at that point probably found the product pretty embarrassing), but Nitro was still getting decent ratings compared to their other programming, wasn't it?

I'll look forward to all these cures that will no doubt come flooding in now.

Does the Cubs' weight room have big ol' medicine balls and those huge triangular weights?

I was at the RAW with the Austin/McMahon gun thing (it was in Milwaukee). The crowd went nuts for it, but I remember later thinking that the Austin character was starting to get a little tiresome.

Yeah, there has to be some kind of punishment. You're responsible for another human life, like it or not. If your neglect causes the death of an innocent, you still have to pay the price.

Hell, just freeze dry them in sealed containers during the off-season.

Because he strikes out a lot, I guess. For the record, given what he signed for, I would have loved to have him on my team. I found it comical last season before the trade deadline when several teams were supposedly "scouting" him. Like they didn't know what to expect from him by now? He is going to strike out a lot and play sub-par defense...but he will also be good for 40 or so homers, and get on base a lot. Makes any lineup more dangerous.

I second this. The WBC is stupid, based on what? Geez, you WBC haters are like a sad broken record. A lot of people are enjoying this. Give it up already. I personally don't give a crap about hockey or soccer, but I don't go into those threads and bash the Stanley Cup or the World Cup. If you don't like it, don't fucking watch it.

Speaking of Good Ol' J.R., any time he had to play up the XFL. I remember even before the XFL had debuted on television, Ross would be saying stuff like "That was an XFL-like hit!" after a clothesline or whatever. Some other moments: - Lance Storm's multi-title run in WCW. Yeah, it was cool they were trying to push someone new who could actually work, but him winning all those belts in such a short time just killed a lot of the credibility any of those championships may still have had. - Rey Misterio's mini-feud with Big Show after Eddie Guerrero died. Hell, Misterio's whole push after Eddie died. - Most "Legends" wrestling matches in WWE in the past few years. Jim Duggan's whole current run, and Dusty Rhodes' one off match a year or two ago spring to mind. Also, any time a cocky heel mouths off about the legends, and then gets beaten up for it. Chris Jericho's current angle may or may not be applicable here. - "The Alliance to Destroy Hulkamania." - Demolition's half assed heel turn toward the end of their run where they were paired up with Mr. Fuji again. - Al Snow's feud with Jerry Lawler and Brian Christopher when he first showed up in the WWF. - Rick Rude showing up on Nitro and siding with the nWo, just to stick it to Vince McMahon, and then doing absolutely nothing of note. - The NWA "invasion" of WWF in '97. Sorry, but Jeff Jarrett, Barry Windham, and the Rock & Roll Express wasn't too impressive of a lineup. - Speaking of, while I actually enjoyed their work as a tag team, the New Midnight Express went over like a lead balloon. Would have been better off if they had been given a unique gimmick, since no one was going to buy Bombastic Bob and Bodacious Bart as successors to Lane and Eaton. - Kronik. Actually a decent power tag team, but a stupid gimmick that didn't really get played upon, and booking you could see coming a mile away. - R&B Security. I think the worst was when Scott Steiner was clotheslining them in pairs on the entry ramp during one particularly comical Nitro. - Speaking of security, I always found it funny in the very early days of the nWo when armed policed officers would storm the ring to keep the Outsiders at bay. Were we supposed to believe they were actually going to shoot them if they tried to get in the ring? That's all I can think of right now.
-
You could well be right, though I've never seen any of his heel stuff to begin with.
-
Right. I mean, they have enough spare parts they could probably trade for a stop gap type player, like maybe Scott Rolen or someone like that.
-
So because Americans may not care about it quite as much as people from other countries, they should not have this tournament at all?

I couldn't find a good pic of it, but the latest cover of Newsweek is pretty hilarious.

The Oakland A's of Fremont/San Jose/Sacramento/Portland
Dobbs 3K replied to NoCalMike's topic in Sports
Well, that would be my big concern. They would surely have to implement an international draft at that point. It would be nice to have balanced leagues and divisions, though. -
The best part is that even if the surgery allows him to get through the rest of the season (coming back in May, possibly), he will have to have a second full blown surgery this off-season, if I'm understanding correctly. 33 years old, and 8 years left on his contract. Wow. I found this amusing: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=525506

The Oakland A's of Fremont/San Jose/Sacramento/Portland
Dobbs 3K replied to NoCalMike's topic in Sports
I think Portland should have an MLB team, but I'm convinced MLB won't give them one anytime soon, just so the owners can always hold out the possibility of moving to Portland if they need a new stadium built or whatever. MLB will logically expand to 32 teams eventually though (although I dread the dip in the talent pool that will result). At that point I don't see how they couldn't possibly put a team in Portland. -
Czech, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's completely stupid and irrelevant. The attendance and ratings numbers don't back up your arguments. If you really don't care about it, just stop watching and stop posting in this thread. But that wouldn't fit your usual modus operandi, I guess.

I guess I missed the story about Jeff Hardy's house burning down?

Yeah, Peavy didn't look sharp at all. Man, that place is packed. Over 40,000 in attendance, according to the announcers.

Let's Talk About...Roddy Piper's WCW stint

What was the deal with him going to Portland in '89? Why didn't he just go back to the WWF immediately? -

Why did Gordy leave so soon after that "reunion?" Getting more money in Japan I assume? -

What made it even funnier was that Dusty Rhodes was screaming about how Piper had won the belt.
