I think it's silly to say JBL is in bad shape. Yeah, he's not ripped like Cena or Batista, but he kept up with Punk just fine last night. It used to be that wrestlers looked more like JBL and less like Batista. Anyway, it was a pretty good RAW last night. I really liked the opening match, and there was enough interesting stuff to keep me entertained throughout. I hope this is the last we see of the Duggan/Lawler tag team, though. I really don't get why Duggan is wrestling on my TV in 2008.

I've been on the various versions of this board ever since Scott Keith's old "Rantsylvania" message board.

Well, it used to be 18 in the US. I'm pretty sure they raised it back up for _some_ reason or other.

Fine with me. Personally, I don't think the VP picks are going to be that big a factor in this election anyway.

Man, between this and the Rowdy Roddy Piper figure, I can't believe I ever abandoned collecting GI Joes (when I was like 13).

If you lower the drinking age, the number of drunk driving fatalities will go up. I always wondered why it had to be an either/or proposition. Why not 19? That way, most of the legal drinkers are out of high school, but have an extra year of "maturity" under their belt.

To add to this thread, I recall Vince mentioning in the vignette for Eddie Graham's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, that the Graham Brothers were one of his favorite tag teams of all time.

Either trying to hide his extra weight or changing up his look, I'd guess.

Let's Talk About: The Stars and Stripes Challenge 1993
Dobbs 3K replied to haws bah gawd's topic in General Wrestling
You all have to remember that Vince was basically desperate to create a new Hulk Hogan type babyface, and basically had to go with Luger by default. I think I read that the USA Network basically made him take Luger that route. -
Not to go too off topic, but does anyone remember a fed called WXO? I think they were on a little earlier...like maybe 1999 or 2000. They were all over TV for a while in syndication, and then vanished just as quickly. I know they had Dan Severn, who I think was going to be their champion. Stan Lane and Chris Cruise were the announcers. Supposedly they were going to bring in Johnny Ace and Mike Barton (Bart Gunn), and even showed the match from All Japan where they won the tag belts.

As far as Dr. Death, does anyone remember when he came out in that ridiculous mask and get up in WWF? That might have been something of a burial after he lost the Brawl for All. JR later cut a promo about how stupid the mask was.

I remember hearing that TAKA Michinoku was promised a run as the first WWF LHW Champion when he signed with the company. I have no idea if that was actually in the contract, or just sort of a hand shake promise though.

That was amusing seeing Soriano hit a banger off the outfield wall yesterday and only get a single out of it. The Cubs ended up picking up two wins against the Braves to help their division lead. Sabathia had another stellar outing yesterday. Not much more you can say than the man is on fire right now.

Speaking of the Texas Hangmen, does anyone know if this was the same pair as in WCW, who pulled double duty as Tough Tom and Mean Mike, Disorderly Conduct?

MECW just seemed like yet another cheap knock off of ECW, trying to cash in on the hardcore craze that was basically already passe by that point. XWF really seemed like it was going to be a legit second tier promotion at the time. I mean, you figured with Hogan involved, they would be able to get some decent backing. I just think that by the end of 2001 or so, most networks and such realized the wrestling boom was basically done with. If they had been somehow able to start up like a year earlier, maybe they would have had a better shot.

lol yeah, that was horrible but in the best way possible. Oh and I noticed one of the regular jobbers on these shows, Todd Becker or something, now, for some reason, also started reffing on this show. Damn, they must have really been reaching if they're asking jobbers to pull double duty and ref! On some of the shows from circa '86 they had a couple guys pulling ref duty...notably Earthquake Ferris and that LaDeaux (sp?) boxer guy. I think the idea was that it was a way for the newer guys to learn the sport without doing matches immediately.

Heel turns that the wrestler didn't blame the fans?
Dobbs 3K replied to Boxer's topic in General Wrestling
I could be wrong, but I don't think the fans were mentioned when Sid turned on Hulk Hogan in '92. I think he stated he was simply sick of Hogan stealing his spotlight, or something along those lines. -
As far as WWF Warzone...I seem to remember reading about Acclaim simply not having the capability to update the rosters very quickly, like the companies basically can now. I remember them doing a vote to add three more guys, and Kane and the Headbangers were chosen. I think part of it was that 3D wrestling games were still a pretty new thing at the time, so they didn't have the capability to make tons of characters quickly. The lamest thing about that game was that in one player mode, you couldn't even pick your opponent for a single match. The cage match was also incredibly inauthentic...the cage looked like it was about 50 feet high, and it was really awkward to win that thing. Edit: Oh yeah, the other thing that sucked was that they decided to go with a "fighting game" control scheme...meaning you'd have to do like "up-left-down-square" to do a simple move like a bodyslam. I could barely ever do Austin's stunner. Yeah, nice move, AccLAME.

Yes, it's because it's Russia. No one wants to start World War 3.

Braun is fine. He will never be a gold glove caliber fielder, but he isn't a huge defensive liability like a lot of LFs in the league.
-
Well, maybe President Bush can nicely ask Putin to knock it off. That'll learn him.
-
Ryan Braun is "day to day" right now. Sounds like it's just some muscle strain in his back, so hopefully not anything worse for the Brewers. Gape Kapler with the walk off home run today, after going 0-6 at the plate.

2 IP / 9 H / 5 R / 1 BB / 1 K (Loss) Nice. Is this finally going to be the year the Yankees miss the post-season?

As far as Cecil Cooper, I seem to remember him doing a decent job as the Astros' interim manager, so at least that was some basis for them giving him the managerial job. Also, the Athletics moving out of Oakland would be stupid. It would just be a couple years later that some other team would start considering a move there. Maybe moving would force the A's management to actually try and win something again, though.
