    JoeDirt's old school match thread

If there is one match I wish I could have it would be the Megapowers vs. the Megabucks at Summerslam 88.

    Iron Maiden

Hetfield and Osbourne are definitely more well known and even though Megadeth has been very successful, Mustaine's is more distinctive than well known. I can see your point Corey, though Bruce often doubled his vocal tracks and sang the backing vocal a little differently or in a harmonizing key during choruses. "Flash of the Blade" comes to mind. Hell, the entire Powerslave album, for that matter. Sure, Adrian Smith sang backup when they performed live, but his voice sounded more like Springsteen than anyone else.

    This week in the NBA

If the commish isn't going to punish Bowen then he hasn't done anything wrong. Ooo... you just told me what's what. Spoken like a true Spurs fan, homeboy. I can see this is going in the direction of the arguments that I had with X about Kobe Bryant. As long as he is on *your* team, he can do no wrong. Forgive me for trying to argue a point which is unarguable in your mind. I'll try never to do it again.

    This week in the NBA

Quit trying to confuse the issue. No one else mentioned doing anything anywhere else except on the court. Bowen is dirtier than a pig in a foot of mud, and despite people like Bill Walton and Jim Rome trying to play it off as him playing mind games and shit, there is no doubt that he intentionally goes out to get in a situation where he can hurt an opposing player and get away with it. David Stern should be watching him like a hawk, because it has happened too many times to be a coincidence.

It would give one hell of a spin on the song "Run To You".

    O'Haire Airport smells

O'Hare wasn;t bad, except the fucking place should have its own zip code... I thought Atlanta and Seattle were bad....

    Iron Maiden

I'm a HUGE IE fan and I have to agree with you. He has a great voice, but if a non-fan heard it, they wouldn't know who he was. I can attest to that. Ripper Owens is perfect for that band. I think I got it for $10. And it was a waste of money... there wasn't one good track on this whole disc. I couldn't honestly say one was better than the other, because if you compared to them at the height of their ability (Bruce from 1982-1985, Geoff from 1984-1988), they are almost exactly matched. Geoff had something of advantage because he had a good backing singer in Chris DeGarmo.

    The 'Sheed Rule

That and the 11th and 12th players on the bench will see significant minutes. This rule is nothing but a safety net for the refs. Instead of making them more accountable for the calls that they blow or miss or look the other way on, this is the trump card that will get players run if they "protest too much". I agree that there is too much whining in the league, but talk about killing a mouse with a 20-megaton nuclear bomb... I'm straight up sick to death of this "lets showcase our superstars by penalizing everyone else" bullshit, already. I posted a long-ass reply on this topic, but it got eaten up someplace, and I am too tired to go on a diatribe about it. Suffice to say that someone is going to explode like a pressure cooker due to this bullshit rule and he is going to be tossed out of the league for kicking the shit out of the ref. Why the Player's Union approved of this I have no fucking idea.

    This week in the NBA

Its going to be interesting to see if the Pistons get run out of the gym up in SLC yet again, while the Wizards are a good early season test for the Magic. And damn, thats a tough West Coast Swing for the Pistons as well.

    Iron Maiden

And Liz Schall got kicked out of the band as of a couple days ago. Its a fucking pity, because she had Adrian Smith's playing *down*. Geoff Tate circa 1988 was a match for Bruce Dickinson. I think that out of all the "true" metal vocalists, Bruce lost the least amount of ability. Its amazing considering Bruce is past 50 now.

    Firefox issues

Or you could simply upgrade your memory and kwitcherbitchin. Any problems with resources and the like can be fixed with a good memory manager program. Seriously, I heavily prefer Firefox over anything else. I haven;t had serious problems with it, and I have used it for at least three years. I'm running 2.0 on my main system and 1.5.0.7 on my laptop. The fact that I can't use the Black Japan skin yet on my main system is nothing but a minor annoyance to me. As long as MS has the lion's share of the market, these kind of things are going to happen with programs. I'm in the same boat with Slim; I used ME for quite a ways past the XP upgrade, and it worked just fine. If the install CD hadn;t cracked, I would have been using it up until I would have been forced to upgrade.

I have to admit that there is an all-female Maiden tribute bands that 9 times out of 10 get it right. Good people, too.

Random, don;t even tell me you spent money buying A Call to Irons.... god, that was fucking terrible, I'm ashamed to even admit that I own it.

    Iron Maiden

Unfortunately that's where he lives, and where he is going to stay as long as he keeps up the badass biker/hunter image. I honestly think he is capable of more than what he is, but seeing how he is close to if not over 40, it might be too late. But getting back to the topic at hand, I am now a week and a half removed from seeing Maiden live, and I am glad I did. While yes, they only played five classic songs as previously discussed, that didn;t stop them from kicking everyone's asses. If anyone is interested, I have a ton of pics I took.

    Iron Maiden

I would go apeshit if I heard Chromatic Death and Milk live.

    Iron Maiden

Amen to that. I was drawn to Evanescence because Amy can sing her hot little ASS off. Combine that with excellent music that is just that one-half to one-quarter step behind her vocals in the mix, and its just perfect. When I actually saw how beautiful she was (especially when the goth in her is toned down a little and her natural beauty shines through), that just did it for me. The first time I heard them was when I was watching Daredevil in the movie theater (and I think that was the bright spot of that entire night) and I was like, wow. I saw the video for Lacuna Coil's new DM cover (as least I think that was what it was), and I wasn't as impressed. They do it pretty good, but Evanescence does it a little bit better.

I was with you right up until you compared Zakk with Satriani. I haven't heard any of Akerfeldt's work, so I will refrain from commentary. I am going to remain objective about it, but any guitarist can do what Zakk does if they practiced enough. He is a straight-up rock guitarist, a product of the late 80s when he burst onto the scene. But he isn't even close to Satriani. He wasn't very innovative for his time, like Satriani was in the mid 80s and no one knew about him, either until at least 1987. Satch gained his following with less radio airplay than Metallica or Maiden in their heyday. Zakk does not measure up in any way from a technical standpoint. Zakk simply has a crushing style of play that melded perfectly with Ozzy back in 1988 when No Rest for the Wicked came out. Songwriting, at the most I would call it even, just because their approaches to songs are different. Solo wise, it isn't even close. I would call Satch's solos works of art, because they not only follow the basic elements of the song and what he is trying to portray, but he also takes that concept and goes to another plane with it. Ap perfect example of this is his live rendition of Memories on the Dreaming #11 EP. The album version of the song is pretty good, but its almost a totally different song on the EP. Zakk stays within his element and doesn't take that step away that he should, or at least not as far as he should. The most experimental I have ever heard Zakk get with a song is Road to Nowhere, where his southern rock influences came to the forefront. I like both players a lot, but I had to say something about that contrast you made, Corey.

    Iron Maiden

Any band that charges for autographs are assholes, no matter how "established" they are. I remember at Ozzfest that you had to buy a "special edition" CD in order to meet and get an autograph from Zakk Wylde and BLS. I kind of understand why, because the line to get with Zakk would be practically endless, but there should have been a better way to do it.

    OAO 10/19 Impact Thread

That match and the buildup to it made me mark out like a 15 year old. The part that was perfect was Jerry Lynn warning them to cut the shit and ten seconds later Ki comes in and beats the shit out of both Dutt and Lethal, then takes out Sabin for good measure. Short and to the point. At this rate Ki might as well turn face, even though he's supposedly a tweener. I don;t know about the Joe/Angle angle, to be honest. To me it just seems like something else to derail Joe on his way to being champion. Almost every fan of TNA wants to see it, and unless Angle gets fed to Joe (which I see as unlikely, as one good Muscle Buster to Angle might literally break him in half), I don;t see it happening for at least 6 months now. I run hot and cold on it, and it can be a great thing if done right. I just have my doubts on whether it can be done correctly. Unless Angle pulled a major-league swerve on Vince and is much healthier than reports indicate, going up against Joe now seems like a unnecessary risk.

    Warehouse: Songs and Stories

This has to be the funniest thread I have read in almost four years in this place. Fontunately the majority of the workers in the warehouse know what the fuck they are doing, and there is rarely any turnover... so when someone DOES fuck up they catch shit about it for at least a week. Larry is the old biker guy in my warehouse, but he's nicer. His wife has him trained, even though he thinks he still has his freedom by flirting with every woman he meets... Though I have to admit, he's smooth. Its a little fucked up in my warehouse right now, because one of our drivers died in his sleep at the ripe old age of 25. Can you believe that shit?

    "Rock is boring"

Sting has always been an arrogant prick throughout his career, despite his attempt at re-invention through the "discovery" of Tantra. Its like Madonna and Kabbalah. Same exact thing. That being said, I could listen to Synchronicity until I am old and gray. Motherfuck Jim Morrison. "I'm drunk, I'm nobody. I'm drunk, I'm famous. I'm drunk, I'm fucking dead." -Denis Leary on Jim Morrison and the Doors movie.
