It wasn't a bad speech. It was just petty and stereotypical. The only obvious fuck-up was when she referred to Harry Reid as "the Senate Majority." And, as previously noted, she sounds just like the pregnant sheriff in Fargo. This speech should do wonders for gender equity by proving that a female Republican's speech can be just as partisan and cliched as a man's. She'll be winning no Hillary supporters tonight. Actually, I'm relieved by it because it means that the Democrats are free to go after her for not knowing shit about shit.

This speech stands up to neither logical nor factual scrutiny. So of course, it'll be considered a great success.

So far tonight we've heard the "take Washington back from the liberals" argument , "the vote for a war hero" argument, and the "resume matters" argument, and now a combination of the three from Guiliani.

Sorry to say, but the whining all day from the conservatives has made Palin off limits now. The press didn't break the pregnant daughter story, the McCain campaign did. But they can get away with blaming the press for it, and that gives her enough sympathy to innoculate her against legitimate concerns about her experience and truthfulness about her own record. I find it absolutely brain-dead on the press's part to be made to look guilty for repeating a true story about her daughter because families are off limits, but totally fall for it when candidates try to use their kids to win votes.

Jonah Goldberg is on Glen Beck tonight. (I guess the replay is on right now.) Hey, did you know Sarah Palin has faced more media scrutiny than Barack Obama? On Larry King they're talking about how white the Republican Convention is.
