Richards was just trying to shock them. Its sort of seen in the way he was pissed off at the guy and he was trying to their attention and for them to shut up. Did he go overboard? My "Why not compare him to any Englishman?" was a rhetorical question. I was comparing him to Hugh Grant because they both do the bumbling englishman thing. The "why not etc" part was saying why didn't I just throw in Richard E. Grant, just because they are both English.

The difference is that Coogan has depth and can do many different characters. As you pointed out, Gervais is David Brent, who is his character in Extras, who is the character he played on his MTV:UK advertisments before the office, which is the same as his Stand Up personna, which is the same as him narrating Flanimals.

Yeah, but everything about the office Gervais stole from other people. The character, the concept. All he is is a one trick pony, from looking at Extras or anything else he's ever done (Flanimals, his shitty stand ups). Gervais' routine "I'll do a Hugh Grant bumbling idiot and just mummer till I've finished talking, then ill attack minorities/the disabled. And I'll do this for series at a time, over different shows. Like other people have said, this version of FBTG was better than his thousand ripoff other posters (fake rando etc) but he still had his shitty moments. He's a bit like WP in the same sense that in the wrestling folders he's tolerable, but in other folders such as Chocolate Socket he's the shits.

They didn't "steal" from the BBC version, they bought the rights. They intended to use some of the stuff. The American version is way better than the English version.

Thats exactly like a friend of mine. For the last year and a bit he was going on about Nintendo and all their products (Wii, DS etc) are fucking stupid and how they are just gimmicky etc. Suddenly his girlfriend likes the DS and he's all open minded about it. He bitched and moaned about how the Wii-mote is "random" (wtf?) and how it probbaly won't catch on because the human mind can't hold two things in seperate hands and use them (we berrated him for months about this) then he goes and plays a Wii and thinks it's the best thing ever, even going so far as to put the whole money down for his deposit.

I refuse to buy anything until the second week of December. Any time earlier is a disgrace.
