I had three matches slotted into this spot (the other two being Savage/Warrior and Flair/Savage). I didn't imagine that only one would be left when it came time for me to pick, and I had ranked it third out of the three, but it's still a really enjoyable match: WWF Championship match - Randy Savage [c] vs. Hulk Hogan, Wrestlemania V, April 2, 1989 Just a great psychological affair. The only thing I don't care for is the finish, since I really didn't see why Hogan couldn't just have moved out of the way of the big elbow instead of insisting on becoming The Guy Who Kicks Out Of Everyone's Finisher (With Authority!). Hogan's best match ever, and Jesse Ventura's finest moment on commentary. Includes a huge-ass recap of the entire Megapowers angle.

That decision looks really bad, almost like they were looking for any opportunity to give it to Kimbo.
-
How the hell was Thompson still standing after those shots. Thompson gets Kimbo back on the ground and he wins this fight.
-
I think they spliced in a shot of the coin landing heads that was done beforehand.

Don't worry, I had them on the radar back when I made my last picks, but I didn't think either one of them would be taken before it got back to me this time. I was going to ask the question before I made this set of picks anyway.

Well, I'm going to take a big risk here. Max asked a question I had been wondering about earlier: And CG's answer: led me to these two players, both of whom achieved their greatest fame outside of the NHL. My first pick, according to many who saw him play, was the greatest goaltender of all time, and certainly the most feared goaltender of his time. Three gold medals and a silver at the Olympics. An absolutely brilliant performance in the Summit Series. Three victories against the NHL in the Super Series, playing for Red Army and the Soviet national team. An astounding TEN world championships. Recently named as the goaltender on the IIHF Team of the Century, and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, despite never having played in the NHL, the only player ever who can make that claim. My fourth selection, and starting goaltender: Vladislav Tretiak My next pick has been called "the Russian Bobby Orr," which should tell you all you need to know. He captained Red Army during its heyday in the 1980s, forming the "Big Five" along with the famous KLM line and defence partner Alexei Kasatonov. Seven times world champion and two Olympic gold medals. Three times European player of the year. And to top it off, after becoming one of the first Russians to get permission to play in the NHL, he won two Stanley Cups as a defensive anchor with the Detroit Red Wings. He became a Hall of Famer in 2001, and was named, along with Great Ones teammates Tretiak and Wayne Gretzky, as one of the six members of the IIHF Team of the Century. He will join Eddie Shore on my top defensive pairing. My fifth selection: Viacheslav (Slava) Fetisov, D

I played this game on the PC for hours upon hours when I was a teenager. It had the Sonics instead of the Spurs. Anyway, Lakers in 5. Celtics have the better frontcourt (though not by a huge amount), but the Lakers' backcourt, bench and coaching are just miles better than the Celtics.

I don't really have a problem with 20, I'm just looking at other drafts and hoping we can move things along with 20 people, especially when we get to the later rounds. Of course, as I said in the movie draft thread, where are we all going, anyway?

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Me too and Orton wasn't him. No, I wasn't talking about Orton either. -
Bennett Salvatore strikes again! What a truly atrocious call against Pierce. Gets an offensive foul for just standing there waiting for his man to come crashing into him.

There's still one guy I'm stunned hasn't been picked yet. -
Actually, reading the article more closely, he's on a pitch count, so he may not even make the fifth. Mmm, Joba-less Yankee bullpen.
-
Joba's starting Tuesday against the Blue Jays. Get ready for that fifth inning run explosion.
-
No, just the list so far.
-
Nice pick -- one of many I was considering -- but a minor quibble: That would've been good, but it was Vince who said that.
-
Oh, excellent. Looks like I'm getting my first choice when it gets back to me, then.

Ugh. I hate people like that. They make it harder on us as diehard fans (especially as diehard fans of a big-market, perennially trendy team like the Lakers), having to defend ourselves to people who think we just jumped on the bandwagon. -
Oh my God, I thought it was only supposed to be 12.
-
I can fit in a couple of rounds pretty much anytime this weekend.
-
I looked him up before the contest. He was famous enough. His company makes Birds Eye frozen foods, and he signed the first deal to make french fries for McDonald's.
-
That is just balls-out awesome

One pick since I left work yesterday? Christ. This draft won't be over before NEXT year's Cup finals.
-
QFT. I was picking the Savage match next. I didn't dream it would go this high.

It's horrible from an entertainment standpoint, though, which is a consideration in the NBA offices. Really, I've never understood why the NBA rule for intentional fouls is so different from the college rule. -
I need to add a rule next year where you can be DQed for being ultra-annoying. Updated standings - May 30, 2008 (changes in red) 235 - Marvinisalunatic 65 - Darthtiki 45 - Toshiaki Koala, Vern Gagne 20 - Cuban Linx, KOAB, NYU, treble
