Personally I'd rather watch a sprint every single time.

I'd pay it.

Oh and as far as the financial arguement goes, 1/2 the games = 2x the ticket price. Baseball is very reasonable as far as pro sporting events go.

Ah my post was 96% sarcasm... I don't give a shit what ESPN says about anything TCR. What I am saying is that with a 162 game season, at least 1/2 of those games mean just about nothing. I'm not saying that if you took away 1/2 of the games from last season (say for example, the first half of the season) it wouldn't completely change the playoff picture. What I'm saying is that in football everyone goes 100% 100% of the time, for two reasons really 1. If you are dogging it in football you will get hurt. 2. Every game counts. If a left fielder decides to lollygag it during the 46th game of the season, so what? You can't tell me that people don't just laze their way through games sometimes.

This weekend Miami signed Vonnie Holliday, and just today they signed Kevin Carter. I love it.

Most overrated/underrated writers & artists
Crimson Platypus replied to tbondrage99's topic in Literature
Koontz is maybe the biggest con artist in all of modern literature, because somehow he manages to convince millions of people to buy the dozen or so books he churns out every year. I know, I exaggerate a bit, but the guy does put out a LOT of books in a short amount of time, and that's because each one pretty much follows a standard formula, with the only deviation being in the type of villain that he uses (he only has a handful of different types, really, but he alternates between them). What's really frustrating is that SOME of his books (the earlier ones) actually are decent, about 2/3rds of the way at least, but then just fall completely apart. But he really is a very mediocre writer who somehow managed to devise a formula that sells. Remove Koontz and insert Crichton, same effect. -
I was just listening on the radio and someone mentioned that he took a swing at someone else? What's up with that?

What is it with you people? If you guys ran leagues, regular seasons would be decided by one and only one game. That way, it couldn't possibly be unimportant! "You people"? I fear that I am but one humble platypus and in no way am a representative of the platypi race as a whole.

New job, bucko I haven't worked a Sunday in 5 years and I don't plan on doing so anytime soon. Exactly. A 10 game losing streak in baseball is quite easily overcome. A 5 game losing streak in football is a disaster. If MLB cut their season in half, 81 games, it would easily double my interest.

I've always said that one of my goals in life is to be "Thug #3" in a movie. Have my one line be something like "The boss is busy... chump". Then have the hero kick the shit out of me in like 3.5 seconds without breaking a sweat. That would rule.

Not one post about Illinois losing yesterday to horrendous OSU? Shocking. Still I don't think that Illinois should even drop a spot. Losing what was basically a trap game to a team that was playing what amounted to being their championship game (banned from postseason play, etc) really isn't that big of a deal. Not only that I think that it's probably better to lose now and get it out of the way just prior to the tournament.

Also as far as football goes 16 games > 62 > 82 > 19658 game seasons

ESPN's trying to reach has wide an audience, and honestly hockey just doesn't have the nationwide popularity the other sports do. But what about a sport like poker, which really wasn't that popular until ESPN pushed it to the moon? Then, once it got more popular they had a legitimate reason to keep hyping it. But it was their press-machine that made it as popular as it was. Another example is the X-games ... shoved down people's throats until the point that they believe that they actually like it. Poker is not a sport, it's a game. Actually this is one thing that hockey (NHL) needs to change. I think that part of the problem that hockey has is that (most) Americans simply don't understand the game well enough to get the same kind of enjoyment they do from say Football, where each penalty is explained by the refs (and then the announcers). If they had the refs miked so that when a penalty is called the home viewers (and people in the audience) could find out what the penalty is, and then the announcers (for the viewing audience) explained what was called, and why - with replays to demonstrate it, people would learn more about the game and understand it more. I also think that hockey is the most exciting game to see LIVE. There is SO much going on in hockey that television just can't catch it all. Unlike football where there is time for tons of replays with all the stoppages and commercials.

My brother will love that site, thanks.

The "What Are You Reading Right Now" Thread

Unlike Jaxl, I pretty much just read Hearts in Atlantis for the Dark Tower tie-in "Low Men in Yellow Coats". Haven't read "Black House", but it's on my already obscenely long "To Read" list. "From a Buick 8" is just sad to read. Not in the sense that the material is sad, mind you, but that book, much like "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", are just representative of King's post car-accident work, which has more often than not tended to be mediocre or just plain awful. I personally thought the book was be pretty pedestrian coming from the guy who's written many of modern horror literature's "classics". Bump Black House up that list Vyce, you won't be disappointed. I'm almost done, and absolutely loving it. Of those three books I listed this one has engrossed me completely. -
I wish that they would let the wrestlers go all out on PPV and keep the "main event style" to the televised shows. It would entice people to purchase the PPVs if they knew they were going to get an all out match or three. Plus it makes sense that the wrestlers would go that extra mile for the PPV win/payday/belt/etc...

Um, that is the "Main Event Style".

I'd rather Miami draft Ronnie Brown and keep their picks than trade for Edge.

It looks to be between them and Michigan State at this point. It'll depend on the conference tournaments...if MSU can somehow upset Illinois, that should earn them a 3 seed no matter what. If they get to the final, OU would probably have to make the semis to hang onto that spot. Interesting. I would think they could beat MSU. Well they get a bye in the first round of the Big XII tourney. So they're probably going up against a team they beat this year since I think they've beaten all of the heavy hitters in the Big XII at least once. I dunno if they can win the tourney though. That might be KU or OSU's deal. If they try in the tourney. Who knows they may not want to get injured or exert to much energy so they could make a run in the NCAA tourney and that would probably give it to OU. Or one of these dangerous schools like ISU that's on the bubble. BUT the NCAA selects before the Big XII plays the final game of the tourney. So if they select before the Big XII final what if a team that wasn't in previously like ISU wins the tourney? Do they hold out a spot or what? What time is the selection show supposed to start? The Big 12 championship game is scheduled for 3pm (according to espn.com). If they are going to be selecting people beforn then it's up to the Big 12 to have their game before 3, starting at noon shouldn't be a big deal really... As far as an OU/MSU game, I would bet against my Spartans in that one...

Does Rob Liefield still "draw" comics? How he gets paid for that trash he consistently puts out is beyond my scope of comprehension really. -

Black House - Stephen King and Peter Straub From a Buick 8 - Stephen King Hearts of Atlantis - Stephen King (yes all at once, well not simultaneously, but you know what I mean) -
Okay for those of you who are griping about the cost yet really want this, think of it this way, it is supposed to come out on Sept. 1st, so thats 26 weeks away. $94.50 / 26 weeks = $3.64 per week (roughly). If you can't save $3.64 in a cookie jar every week then you don't deserve the book in the first place

Oh boo fucking hoo... This happens all the time, if you don't believe that you are not watching enough basketball. It's too bad that Bryant got hurt as a result of it, but lets not act like Cheney is some tyrannical figure for doing something that is fairly commonplace in college (and the pros, hack-a-shaq?)...
