I bought the Show yesterday and played two games as the Reds. Lost an exhibition game 4-3 in the ninth to the Diamondbacks after a late rally when David Weathers lost composure. I started a dynasty and won my first spring training game on veteran 12-2 over the Phillies as their pitchers had absolutley no control over the strike zone. The game seems fluid enough but baserunning and the changes from MVP will take me a while to get down (like not having the strike zone visualized after the pitch gets thrown). Also, it seems every game takes a long time to play, like 1 hour and 1/2 for each game regardless of pressing "x" a lot to speed it up. What all does the fast play option cut out?

If that happened UK might look back @ Rick Barnes (ugh)...maybe even Travis Ford, who was supposedly a candidate for the LSU job. They could try to throw money at Calipari but I doubt he'd want to leave Memphis.
-
Eh, I'll pick Jose Maria Olazabal. He always seems to make a run in one of these major championships every few years or so and if the greens get fast he's got the putter to handle them unlike a large part of the field.

That's pretty awesome. I have some friends who go to Davidson and they took up the offer to go. From what they've told me they've been having a blast. My chances of winning my bracket pool went up after this because it sorta makes up for having USC make the Elite Eight out of bottom of Kansas's bracket. Most of the people in my pool had Wisconsin in the Elite 8 versus Kansas so no true harm done.

Man, if Slaughter had hit that wide open 3 pointer to cut UCLA's lead to one a few minutes ago who knows where this game would be right now. I appreciate the resolve of WKU because I felt we would just crumble in the second half. Glad U of L eliminated the Volunteers. That game with North Carolina should be very interesting.

The Best Sports Movie of All Time
Danville_Wrestling replied to foleyfanforever88's topic in Television & Film
I'd go Rudy and then Hoosiers. Honorable mention for me goes to Seabiscuit and The Natural (which might've been higher but some bits are so ridiculous, ala the stuff with "Bump" Bailey that it hurts the film's standing). -
My feelings on the age limit are mixed. On one hand, the NBA gets better players who have been seasoned by at least two years of college ball. On the other, you are denying an opportunity for a young person to pursue a career and having them risk an injury in the two years of college ball that you are mandating. Furthermore, when these young guys go to college they aren't going to stay for the long hall making their class scheduling an absolute joke and who's to say they are even going to go to class down the stretch? It's for the academic reason that I've always been interested in Dick Vitale's proposal for how the NBA/NCAA should manage in age limit in that if a guy wants to go out of high school to the pros then he can but if he chooses to go play college ball he has to stay in the system for three years. Also, isn't the players union in the NBA against the elevation of the D-League to a higher stature?

It's so weird to see ESPN and all the college basketball analysts talking about Western Kentucky basketball. However, as a student there I have to say its about damn time our basketball team made a "run" that many have predicted for the last several seasons. That said, I'm just praying for a good game against UCLA. I don't really think that we'll win (but then again I thought we'd lose to San Diego as well...sometimes I'm just not optimistic) but I just don't want to be embarassed on national television. I hope Horn has been having the guys practice their 3 pointers because I see that as our main way to beat the Bruins, there's no way we'll be able to keep slashing to the basket like we did against San Diego and go inside. I'm interested to see what our strategy is going to be to contain Kevin Love and also praying we don't send UCLA to the stripe about a million times in this game like we have with other opponents all year. However, even though my college is still in the tourney I'm more intrigued by the Louisville-Tennessee game tonight. Looks like it'll be a fun game and I love Rick Pitino's brand of basketball anyway. The Volunteers are a streaky team and I don't know if they'll continue their hangover from the first and second round (although that second round matchup with Butler really wasn't any easy one anyway) tonight. If Padgett plays good, though, I think the Cardinals advance. Oh and Wash U is going to get waxed by Carolina. And while I'm at it I hope Huggins continues the run in the tournament, I've always been a bit of a fan of that guy regardless of the thugs he recruits.

AL East: 1. Boston 2. New York Yankees 3. Toronto 4. Tampa Bay 5. Baltimore It'd be nice to see Tampa make a run because that team has been a proverbial bottom dweller since its existence. However, even with the projections that I have seen for them by many I still believe the only team they are beating in the division is Baltimore who is still 3-4 years from rehabilitating itself into a team people care about again. Also, Boston will take this division in much of the same style as last year by getting out to a fast start, stalling after the All-Star Break and watching a Yanks comeback, and then putting the Yanks away the last several weeks of the season. AL Central: 1. Cleveland 2. Detroit (WC) 3. Chicago WS 4. Minnesota 5. Kansas City Dontrelle will help the Tigers win early but will have his usual post-All Star game slump and hurt the team. I like the acquisitions the Tigers made in the off-season but they won't take the division. Never fear, though, because this year the Wild Card is coming out of the Central division. Also, there might not be much left in Minnesota, especially with the departure of Santana on the pitching side, but since when have the Kansas City Royals ever shown they care to emerge from the division cellar recently? AL West: 1. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2. Seattle 3. Oakland 4. Texas I don't think this is going to be a competitive division this year and the Angels will run away with it after the All-Star break. Oakland will surprise some people by not finishing last in the division but will not be near the Mariners or Angels in terms of wins. NL East: 1. New York 2. Philadelphia (WC) 3. Atlanta 4. Washington 5. Florida There is no way that the Marlins do not finish last in this divison. If they don't then it's an embarassment to any team that finishes below them. A team with a $10 million or so payroll does not deserve to be in existence on the major league level. Aside from that, is it possible for New York to have so much talent and choke away another division lead? I don't think that'll happen this season and the Mets will beat the Phillies (who everyone loves this season in the magazines) for the division crown. It's hard for me to say "no" to Atlanta, but...."no." NL Central: 1. Chicago 2. St. Louis 3. Milwaukee 4. Cincinnati 5. Houston 6. Pittsburgh The only thing easy to call in this division is Pittsburgh finishing last. However, the Cubs have too much talent not to win it. I'm a Cincinnati fan and I hate to say that this season will be another mediocre one but it will be because the pitching still isn't where it needs to be (as evidenced by the struggles of Homer Bailey and the introduction of Dusty as manager). I have a feeling that LaRussa will get the Cardinals back in competitive shape and they'll make a late run to overtake Milwaukee in September but it will be too late to catch the Cubs. NL West: 1. Arizona 2. San Diego 3. Los Angeles 4. Colorado 5. San Francisco Ah, the division I enjoy most around June and July. The Giants finish last because well, what is there on that team? There starting lineup is going to be horrendous and probably wouldn't have a good BA if pitchers were throwing beach balls. The Rockies will not be a factor down the stretch and the Dodgers won't be a factor either, causing the media to question if Joe Torre is really a great manager or if he just had tons of money/talent in New York. It will be a fun race between the Dbacks and the Padres but I say Arizona takes it because I like the young hitters/pitchers they have built and I got to watch more of their games last year than any other team thanks to mlb.tv Playoffs {which I don't usually do but what the hell}: ALDS: Boston over Detroit in 5, Cleveland over Anaheim in 3 NLDS: New York over Chicago in 4, Philadelphia over Arizona in 4 ALCS: Cleveland over Boston in 6 NLCS: Philadelphia over New York in 7 World Series: Cleveland over Philadelphia in 4

As a WKU student I'm happy about us playing San Diego today although I don't like our chances because San Diego has more athleticism than we do. And besides, even if we win then UCLA will kill us in the Sweet Sixteen. -
The last baseball game I bought was MVP '05. I'm leaning towards giving MLB the Show a shot this year but am unsure because I have never played the series. Is it very user friendly/realistic? I'm interested to hear which game people prefer before I make a buy.

I hate this tape and this match is not on it. It has Kerry von Erich vs. The Mountie but mine doesn't. What?!?! -
Comments that don't warrant a thread

I've never played MLB the Show but am thinking of picking up either 07 or 08 (when it is released). Just a few questions for anyone who's played it: how does it compare to the MVP Baseball series (I currently own '05 and haven't bought a baseball title since then)? Also, does it have a franchise and how good is it? -
Yes, I have two memory cards and a 256 MB USB drive already. I guess I was just hesitant b/c I was unsure of the compatability of my USB drive to my PS2.
-
Do you have to be particular about what AR Max drive you get? What I mean to say is, does it matter if the AR Max that you buy comes with the memory card or the flash drive? I went to Best Buy today looking for the one with the flash drive and they only had the one with the memory card so I'm holding out to make sure I buy the right one b/c I don't want to lay down $35 for something that won't work. Thanks in advance.

Well so much for that drive.

I wonder what fallout will come out of this primary contest. Obama is DESTROYING Clinton in this state and I don't know if there is that much positive spin she can put on losing by 15+ points (and it looks like it might be more). This will be the first time in this Democratic race a candidate has won 50% of the vote.

Wow, I knew people were scoring high against me this year but not that high. Oh well, even after a horrible season I can at least take solace in being 1st in PA.

1995 takes the cake for me. I enjoy watching it the least due to the short time limits and really crappy finish. The WWF got really lucky Michaels was able to pull himself back into the ring because on the replay his second foot comes within mere inches of touching the floor. 1999 is tough to get through but I'm a Vince McMahon mark and I won a $5 bet off of that Rumble with a friend as he thought Austin would win. I remember watching the show at his house and jumping about 10 feet into the air after McMahon won. It's funny how 1995 is such a horrible year for the WWF and yet that is the year that I first started watching wrestling. I started watching on the eve of WrestleMania XI and I guess it's a good thing I was a young mark because despite the bad action on the TV screen I ate that stuff up. It's embarassing to admit but I was pumped for Diesel-Mabel at SummerSlam '95.

I love the 1991 Royal Rumble. 1992 is great but the 1991 Rumble was the first that I watched and I'm a Rick Martel mark so it's my favorite for both of those reasons. I suppose the idea of the WWF brass not wanting Martel in there to the end due to sympathetic heat may have been an issue but when your up against Hulk Hogan I doubt it would've been much of a problem. Personally, I wish they would have had a final four of Hogan, Bulldog, Earthquake, and Martel with Martel eliminating Bulldog after Bulldog nearly tosses him out, Earthquake and Martel having some bad communication and Hogan tossing Earthquake out, and then Hogan outlasting Martel to win. There was no way Hogan was NOT winning the Rumble that night, especially with the Warrior-Slaughter match earlier in the evening, and I don't argue against him winning but I think Martel should've been the last man eliminated. The crowd desperately wanted someone to toss him out all match long and if they had included a spot where Hogan hurled Martel over the top rope only to have Martel land on the apron, Hogan turn his back to the crowd with Martel sneaking in and clotheslining him in the back of the head, then have Martel taunt the crowd about how smart he was only to have Hogan pop up behind him, grab him by the hair, and toss him out to win the crowd would've eaten it up. Would've been a better finish than Hogan just slamming Earthquake and hurling him out. However, I guess they just used Hogan-Earthquake as the last two because it was the "blowoff" for their feud in 1990.

Nice to see hometown boy Jacob Tamme somewhat save the game on getting back that fumble and making FSU burn its last two timeouts. I must say that as a UK fan I am not used to actually getting to bowl games, much less winning two in a row but I'm very happy tonight.

I like the Seahawks over the Redskins, the Jaguars over the Steelers, the Titans to upset the Chargers (that is if Vince Young isn't too banged up to play well), and the Bucs to pound the Giants after Eli throws the game away.
