Well it took four weeks but I finally got my first victory of the season with Arizona State coming back after a slow start to beat Oregon State 44-32. Had some scares today with the teams I picked starting off slow but it all started with Wake Forest rallying against Maryland. I'll take this victory, though, because conference wins aren't bad.

That fake FG was just a nice looking play. It probably looked better than it was because South Carolina bit so terribly on it and the runner had an impeded route to the end zone but it was just very smooth and effective. So with week four in the season nearly complete who does everyone think is making a run for the Heisman? I know that I mentioned this in a previous thread but I think if Andre Woodson can keep Kentucky on track and Kentucky makes a run at the SEC East title (which of course would mean beating Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee which will not be an easy task) then he has to be considered a frontrunner. Lee Corso says Mike Hart but with Michigan's season thus far the only way I see him getting back in is if Michigan runs the table and soundly defeats Ohio State this year. I think Brian Brohm and Darren McFadden's chances are both hurt by their teams having two losses although both guys are putting up solid numbers. Some could argue Colt Brennan but I think that will only happen if Hawaii runs the table and gets a BCS berth. I'd have to put Tim Tebow near the top of my list because of the way he has carried Florida offensively such as today with two rushing TDs and two passing TDs.

I was impressed by what I saw out of UCF last week against Texas. George O'Leary has been doing a nice job down there building that team. Funny water story. Can't recall ever hearing that about a college football game before.

Looks like Arizona State and UCLA are going to take me late into the night to decide if I win or not. It's just like a presidential election.
-
First time in my lifetime that Kentucky will win its SEC road opener. I'm really surprised that the team is 4-0. I thought we'd do better than last season but I wasn't expecting such a start like this.
-
Well great, messed up handoff gives Arkansas the lead on a SAFETY 22-21 in the fourth.

Coco Crisp scores on a single from second base to put the Red Sox up 1-0 in the third. It's a controversial run, though, because the umpire missed the call on Crisp's bunt single to start the third inning by a step. The announcers for the Devil Rays are all up in arms basically alleging a conspiracy because it appears they've had trouble with this first base umpire before.

If he would used Cialis, he could of waited for the time to be right. I think Vern wins the thread.

Yea I was blacked out of the Yanks-Blue Jays game but it sounds like one helluva battle. Boston keeps getting men on base but having them get put down early by the Devil Rays. Game is still 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd.

Houston FINALLY gets the lead with six minutes to play 31-27 over CSU.
-
Sick run by McFadden through the horrid Kentucky run defense to score and put Arkansas up 20-7 after the extra point. Nice come from behind win also today by Wake Forest 31-24 over Maryland in OT. Wake trailed 24-10 heading into the final quarter and had to score with seconds to play to force the OT period.

I just checked my game out again Bored and you got the differing picks right in case you were wondering. Big comeback win for Wake Forest that puts me two wins away from an outright victory with three games still to be decided. I'm hoping Houston can keep the comeback going against Colorado State since that is tied at 24. If Houston can win then I only need a Arizona State or UCLA win to get my first victory of the year.

I think that is a fair statement considering that Michigan has won the last nine games the teams have played. I don't know why Joe Paterno can't seem to overcome the Michigan demon but he just hasn't been able to shake it. Big win by Michigan, though, because it keeps alive their chances of having a shot at the Big Ten championship. Notre Dame looks to be headed to 0-4 which makes me laugh. Wake scores on the first possession in OT and now leads 31-24 keeping my hopes alive in the Bored Pick'em!

Wake Forest scores late to force OT with Maryland.

Look, all of this is a non-issue because I AM NOT ADVOCATING CUTTING THE SEASON. I'm saying though that if they would seriously cut games they'd have to take a more drastic step than simply cutting eight of them because if they just cut eight everyone would scream that it was a dumb decision.

Yea, I disagree with the decision to leave Smoltz in. This is a game you have to win and although Smoltz is one of your best arms you can't just let him pitch forever. And Gym Class I didn't say that I think they should consider reducing the season. I simply asked the question if anyone else thought that way. If they did reduce they'd have to go in the 120 or so range because cutting to 154 would be stupid. If they wanted to reduce the calendar for the seasont then they could play more doubleheaders.
-
Has Steve Spurrier lost his mind? Why is he kicking a field goal with a little over seven minutes to go and when he's down by three touchdowns?
-
Well Wake Forest and Houston are fighting back and giving me some life.
-
Personally, I'm not arguing for a reduction of games. The 162 game season works fine for me. I'm just addressing the argument for the "casual fan" since we know not everyone is hardcore on baseball. I do agree with al that to get a true baseball experience you have to go to the minor leagues. I went to a few Lexington Legends games this year and although the team couldn't hit to save their life it was a fun time to relax and watch a game. I got uber annoyed at people around me thinking that Koby Clemens was the best player in the minor leagues just because of who is daddy was. That guy cost us one game on several misplayed balls at third but its whatever. If he was that great he wouldn't still be playing single A ball.
-
Yea, Nebraska's D hasn't shown me anything special the last two games.
-
I think you make some good points alkeiper but my argument for contracting the Marlins and Devil Rays is that their poor attendance numbers demonstrate that there isn't much of a baseball market to lose in that area. I would agree that contraction should never be a first option on the table but just having perpetually crappy teams in the league does nothing for the league as a whole and that goes for any sport. In baseball a lot depends on what the owner wants to do and if they want to shell out the money to win and unfortunately some markets have decided that they won't spend and you can't force them to spend. One of the regretable parts of major league baseball is that when the year starts some teams are already eliminated based on not shelling out the dough. Granted, teams have shown that you don't have to be the richest to go far (ex. the Detroit Tigers last year) but money definitely doesn't hurt. Does anyone think that baseball could attract more attention to itself by playing fewer games or somehow shortening the season by playing more double headers? I know some of my friends just refuse to follow baseball because they find that watching one game isn't going to mean a lot in the long run due to the fact that "it's just one of 162 games on the schedule."
-
Anyone remember that horrid realignment plan Selig tried to put through in the late 1990s that would've moved the Reds to the AL and other weird stuff? And sorry about the even number of teams in each league. I've missed these discussions before.
-
I need to have some games go my way fast or else I'm going to be dropping to 0-4 which is absolutley embarassing looking at my performance last year. I don't know what is wrong with me this year (besides picking the wrong games week in and week out).
-
Well it looks as if baseball really never should've made three divisions in each league then.
-
It's possible with Oklahoma's win last night and West Virginia smashing East Carolina today. However, I'd only expect them to switch with Oklahoma if they did drop at all.
