Smackdown Spoilers to be aired Feb. 2/07

It's funny that after Batista came out we got to see Cena, the Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels outpop him.

    Campaign 2008

I bet Norm Coleman is jumping in the air at the prospect of facing Al Franken. However, I don't see Franken getting the shot since Coleman will be one of the most vulnerable senators up for election next year and I figure the Democrats would actually want to win that seat.

    Admit It...

I was a big mark for Bob Holly when he had the racing car gimmick. I wasn't sure why but I marked out big when he beat Mantaur on RAW to qualify for the KOTR in 1995 because at the time I thought Mantaur was this big guy the WWF was pushing kinda hard. It's funny that everyone here including myself was a big mark for Ahmed Johnson. I thought that the Pearl River Plunge was the coolest move I'd ever seen up to that point. I was also a big mark for Marc Mero/Johnny B. Badd. I thought he had the coolest moveset. Sucks that he got hurt in early 1997 and was never the same.

    College Basketball 06/07

Good effort by Michigan State against Ohio State tonight. They had two good looks from three point land to win it but couldn't nail either one of them. Good win by UNC as well. Arizona going 4% (1-23) from the perimeter was sad.

    College Basketball 06/07

Part of me is thinking that Tubby Smith desperately needs UK to put up some wins against Tennessee and Florida in the remainder of this month because if not UK could be headed for a 13 loss season and that might spell the end of his tenure.

    Greatest Royal Rumble Matches

While 1991's Rumble isn't the greatest Rumble of all time I think it is definitely in the top 4. Bret Hart established himself in that match by going over 20 minutes, the Undertaker also established himself by getting several eliminations and just choking everything in sight, Greg Valentine turned face by attacking Bravo, Martel set the Rumble record (and in my opinion should have finished 2nd), etc. In fact, I think the entire 1991 pay-per-view is VERY underrated from a quality standpoint because the Miami crowd was hot throughout the show and awesome performances were turned in by the Rockers, Orient Express, Big Bossman, and the Barbarian. Also, who can forget that great sneak attack by Savage on the Warrior during the WWF title match when he blindsides Warrior in the aisle and Virgil turning on DiBiase? I definitely think the Rumble show was the best WWF pay-per-view of 1991.

    Bam Bam Bigelow passes away

RIP Bam Bam Definitely one of my favorite big men of all time. The job to LT @ WM 11 pretty much killed his WWF career and he was still getting heat for it years later because when I was at a Thunder taping in 1999 when he fought Meng in the U.S. title tournament people chanted "L.T." at him quite a bit.

WON News + Notes, Jan 15 Issue

Speaking of Big Dick Johnson, I haven't watched an episode of RAW since he came out and molested Eric Bischoff at the end of the broadcast.

    kkk Bowl IV: The Postseason

I believe with the Philadelphia beating the spread combined with New England's victory today I win 2-1.

    PGA Tour

Forget Michelle Wie, this sixteen year old kid Tadd Fujikawa is tearing it up right now and is tied for 6th right now after two consecutive -4 days. My gut says he might fall apart tomorrow but it'd be quite a story for the tour if a sixteen year old kid won tomorrow. Then again, everyone would just annoint him as the "next Tiger" or something. I also see Paul Azinger's name on the top of the leaderboard. I had a feeling he might do well this week since he knows he doesn't have a cushy announcer's job to turn to anymore and is going to have to play his ass off to keep his card.

    PGA Tour

I'm just in the pool with Greg Norman and other golfers who think that women shouldn't be allowed to play on the PGA Tour period. Men can't play on the women's tour (and I'm not advocating that one do it) because its strictly written in their bylaws that they can't. I just see the Wie stuff as shameless publicity. Then again, I probably wouldn't have as big of a gripe about Wie or even Sorenstam when she played in the Colonial IF they QUALIFIED to enter the field. I remember a woman did that (Suzy something I think...) at the Canon Greater Hartford Open in 2003 and the male pros didn't say anything because she earned her spot in the field rather than having a sponsor hand her a spot.

    NFL 2007 Draft Thread

Does Mel Kipper still believe Brady Quinn is a #1 or #2 pick in this draft? If I were a team I'd have a really hard time trying to justify picking him since he hasn't won a major collegiate game.

    PGA Tour

I know that regardless of her finish Michelle Wie will get invite after invite to this tournament because she's from Hawaii and Sony thinks it will bring in more fans but I'm really sick of seeing her in a field she's not that competitive in. Especially with tournaments this year being worth FedEx Cup points, other players need her slot for the limited tournaments they are going to be able to enter before the Quest for the Card. However, even if she finishes second to last tomorrow the media will be all like "well she beat ONE male golfer! His name is __________ and he won or did ___________ so Wie is getting there!"

    Best Videos.....

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the "Highway to Hell" video for Austin-Undertaker at SummerSlam 1998 yet. That video was pretty kick ass and I just loved the theme for that pay-per-view. One of the better built pay-per-view cards ever in my opinion. Also, "Tell Me a Lie" is a classic I always loved seeing.

    Memorable/Favourite

I thought that McMahon wasn't that bad on commentary even though he didn't know a lot of the moves going on in the ring. I think his best commentated match was with Bobby Heenan at SummerSlam 1993 with Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna. Heenan was especially on in that match just hating on Luger: "Train dummy, do whatever you have to dummy, but your not going to beat the WWF Champion Yokozuna" Also, in that match all of Vince's "1....2....3 HEGOTHIMNOHEDIDN'T" came off well because Yokozuna's legdrop to Luger looked vicious, the belly-to-belly suplex looked like it killed Luger, and also when Yokozuna clobbered Luger with Fuji's wooden bucket it looked over.

    PGA Tour

I knew I should have picked Luke Donald this week. If I were a player on tour, is there anything keeping me from playing the Quest for the Card tournaments after the FedEx Cup concludes? I imagine players like Vijay who like to play in nearly 30 tour tournaments a year might not be as happy by being constrained to the schedule Tiger/Phil wanted.

    PGA Tour

One thing I'm still confused about with the FedEx Cup system is does the money list matter anymore for players to keep their card? I know the whole "Quest for the Card" series is supposed to happen after the TOUR Championship but will money be used to make the cutoff for who doesn't have to be in the Quest and who does? As far as Michelle Wie goes, I like four shots as well.

    Air Strike in Somalia

Last time I checked we have a lot of these retreating Islamists holed up on an island off the coast of Mogadishu. Evidently we have special ops in there following them and are blocking their exit with our navy in the area. Also, Kenya has closed its borders to them so they are effectively trapped there. Then again, Kenya's border isn't necessarily that great since it has a large Somali population in that area. I just find it funny that these Islamists were preaching the values of jihad and martyrdom and when they had a chance to martyr themselves in front of the combined forces of the Somali transitional government and the Ethiopian army they ran away.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - The Bowls

Sucks that I lost on a tiebreaker, especially since I would have won if Missouri and Minnesota could have held their leads in their respective bowl games. Thanks for having the contest, it was a lot of fun and I hope its up next year so I can give this another shot.

    kkk Bowl IV: The Postseason

Whew, I survive the first round by a whisker over Harley Quinn. I thought after New England when bananas on the Jets I might be done. Onto the divisional playoffs! It's also nice to see that I've rescued the Minnesota franchise in this league after the last two years of last place division finishes.

WON News + Notes, January 8th Issue

Thanks for posting as always. I shudder to think of what this company is going to look like in ten years. Anyone with wrestling talent is left in the development territories and big lugs keep getting called up the big stage that have little to no respect for the business. The product is just going to get even more unwatchable and I shudder at the thought.

    PGA Tour

I'm interested in seeing how the FedEx Cup is going to work but am pissed about the Golf Channel televising a lot of the opening tournaments. I was never a big fan of ESPN coverage but I can't get the Golf Channel so I'm shut out of most of the coverage which just doesn't sit well with me at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the tour moves to the Golf Channel in a few years as I'm somewhat convinced the NFL will move a lot of games to the NFL Network in about five years as well. I guess it might be time to invest in satellite television to acquire the channel. Aside from that, though, it will be interesting to see how Tiger plays at the Buick Invitational. With him having his first child it will be interesting to see how many events he plans on playing and I think it's a bad PR move by him and Mickelson to avoid the first tournament of the year since they campaigned hard for the new FedEx Cup system and aren't going to play in its inaugural event. I'll admit up front that I am not a big Tiger Woods fan not because of his ability which I respect but because of the media hype around him 24/7 that ignores most other guys on tour. I know that's not his fault but its always rubbed me the wrong way. I can understand why he isn't playing in Hawaii but I just feel he kinda needs to so the new system starts off with a bang. To be honest, I'll be more interested in the whole Quest for the Card deal after the FedEx Cup concludes but I think that will all be on the Golf Channel as well (err). However, it might be interesting due to some of the old guys or veterans that might lose their tour cards. And speaking of David Duval I really want to see the guy get back on track but know that he probably won't.
