    Your In-Game Champions

I have EWR 4.2 version and am operating MLW. I scrapped pretty much the whole roster and paid for other superstars on written contracts. Anyway, I have three titles. Here are my champs: World Champion: Larry Zbyzko (getting ready to drop it in his feud with La Parka) Television Champion: Monty Brown (got the title from Alex Wright and is now feuding with a newly turned heel Norman Smiley) Tag Team Champions: Marty Jannetty & Cheetah Master (recently won the belts from Samu & Mana and are now feuding with La Resistance, who I acquired from the WWE when they were released)

    The Situation with Tucker Carlson

Max Kellerman on a political show? Geez, just gives me ANOTHER reason not to watch the cruddy product being released by MSNBC. Also, Dan Abrams is very good? That's news to me. Everytime I tune in to his show he just looks awkward in front of the camea and seems to have no idea when things are going on (ex. Michael Jackson case when he was on location and was interviewing for people and didn't know who to turn to next). However, sometimes I watch his show simply for the "train wreck" appeal.

I imagine Landrieu will vote for him. Since Louisiana is a conservative state and she had to run on a conservative platform to a certain degree to win down there in December 2002 I don't think she'd appease her supporters much by voting 'no.' Also, Landrieu tends to not follow the Democratic party line as much as some people may think (for example, she voted to close the floor for debate over the John Bolton nomination and I believe voted for Bush's three nominees in the compromise). As far as the arguement of cronyism is concerned, WHAT US President doesn't do that? Someone referenced how I'd feel if Bill Clinton nominated one of his lawyers to the SC and as far as I'm concerned I'd feel fine with it. The President gets to pick whoever they want to fill the seat and if they think one member of their legal team would do a good job then they should I have every right to pick them, whether they be liberal or conservative. I don't see this nomination as a 'payback' for anything for Mr. Roberts and can't say I'm too surprised by him getting the nod considering that Bush loves people from his father's tenure in the White House (ex. Cheney). By the way, Ann Coulter according to the Drudge Report this morning has come out and blasted the nomination claiming that we'll get another David Souter on the bench. Just thought that was an interesting backlash from the far-right, although I don't believe it'll translate into the right killing this nomination.

Well, on the bright side for the marks the WWE could just dress Dave up in a referee outfit and they'd probably think it was Earl.

I don't see how the Dems are gonna block this guy. If they filibuster they will be obstructionist and if they do filibuster I think the nuclear option gets pushed through b/c the Gang of 14's GOP buddies know that if they allow one to continue they'll get fried in the next round of their primary elections. Plus, Roberts was confirmed UNANIMOUSLY I believe when he was sent to the DC Court of Appeals TWO YEARS AGO. I think it's going to be hard for the Dems to block someone that got unanimous approval such a limited time ago. After all, if he had credentials then to be a federal circuit judge then why does he not have proper credentials now? Also, this guy doesn't have too much of a paper trail and he hasn't authored many opinions to keep him off of a Supreme Court seat. Just b/c he worked for Bush's campaign in 2000 also doesn't DQ him. I don't see what the big fuss is over abortion at this point anyway. There is still going to be a 5-4 balance if Roberts gets on so the Dems don't need to waste their political capital here b/c god forbid if something happens to Ginsberg, Breyer, Souter, or Stevens (especially since he's 85) they'll has lost a chance to stop the REAL swing that would take place. I think this whole thing about a "consensus" pick is pure B.S. Democrats didn't vote for Bush in the last election so they have no right to argue for a choice that suits their needs. I'm not surprised by this choice b/c it's "payback time" for Bush to the religious right wing of his party that got him elected. After all, the Democrats and their political action committees/interest group already had prepared statements for whoever the person he chose was claiming they are 'disappointed' and stuff. Oh well, tough, that's life for you. If they had actually focused on a MESSAGE the last election and offered some ALTERNATIVES they'd be modeling the court, not Bush.

    Hebner screws Hebner

I'm a bit saddened by the news. I never thought Hebner was that bad of a referee. I know people hate him because of Montreal and other reasons, but he was always my favorite referee in the WWE. I have to concur that this firing must have been quick b/c Hebner was referee for several matches @ a Friday house show in Rupp Arena.

    Picked up NCAA 2006 today...

I have the 2003 version of NCAA Football and of Madden. I just liked having them both because I could play a season of NCAA, export the draft class to Madden, have the draft, and play a professional season with those players. Since my NCAA school is Kentucky a lot of my prospects don't get picked up. However, in Madden I am the Green Bay Packers and my big time rival for the NFC Championship every year in the playoffs in the St. Louis Rams (b/c Warner is big in that game). One year the Rams drafted Jared Lorenzen (my starting QB @ UK) in the draft and in the divisional playoffs Warner got hurt. So for the NFC Championship game I got to play against my old QB from UK and that was a pretty cool moment. Since I knew his strengths/weaknesses well he went like 2-25 with 5 INT's and we rolled to the Super Bowl 49-0.

Yea, I agree. Sorry, didn't mean for my previous post to take away from Tiger. While I don't root for him at tournaments I know he's a phenomenal golfer and if he's in the hunt on Sunday then you'd better watch out or have your running shoes on if he's in the lead. Tiger saves pars when he has to in majors and while Montgomerie or Olazabal stumbled and hit their shots into deep rough or in coffin bunkers, he managed to get up and down to save par on numerous occassions. Also, he easily could've won today by eight shots b/c he missed two short birdie putts throughout the day. However, I also think the field kinda gives up when he has the lead too b/c no one believes they can chase him down. After all, when you look @ the majors Woods has been in a toe-to-toe showdown for they aren't against well known players. After all, Bob May came within a stroke of beating him at the 2000 PGA, Rich Beem beat him in a showdown @ the 2002 PGA, Chris DiMarco rallied to fight him in this year's Masters, and Michael Campbell outdueled him @ the U.S. Open this year. Seems that if your a big name you can't hang with Tiger, but if you have the grit and determination of a journeyman you can handle him. Weird, eh?

Yea, it's another big collapse by the field down the stretch when Tiger has the lead. Is anyone sick of watching that happen? Good win, though, by Woods as he yet again triumphs @ Jack's final appearance at a particular major championship. PGA @ Baltusrol should favor him too b/c of his length, although he's never played that course before to my recollection. Too bad for Monty. Seems that when he has a good placing in a major Tiger or someone else just has a terrific week to keep him out of it.

I only have hestitations about Scalia b/c he wrote the majority opinion that "gave" Bush the White House in the eyes of Democrats. I don't see why the Dems would wanna get into a big fight over the chief justice position b/c it's not like it's that important to the court as the chief justice still only gets one vote and the like. Seems like a waste of political capital for the Dems if you ask me. Also, I don't think we'd get into the harrassment stuff against w/Thomas. Over 60% of the American public didn't believe Anita Hill and most have criticized the Dems for making that power play back when Thomas was confirmed. I don't think that'd work this time.

    HCTP CAW's

I just picked up HTCP today @ a discount at my local Blockbuster and am waiting to load it up with CAW's. However, a lot of sites just have the looks of the wrestlers as opposed to having their movesets with it. Anyone have any valuable links/suggestions for this minor problem? I'd appreciate it greatly!

Yea, I was looking out for Anthony Kim to kick some major ass in the Public Links. Unfortunate that he got eliminated. I agree that Sunday is looking to be phenomenal. Tiger in the lead is going to be a tough obstacle, but I told everyone Thursday & Friday that he hadn't clinched the tournament yet even though he had a four shot lead. I really hope Montgomerie can kick it into gear and make a charge to win a major championship. In Scotland that would be like a Phil Mickelson triumph @ the Masters. Sure, it may be crazy to expect a 59 @ St. Andrews but SI only said it was possible if the wind totally died down and some other weather factors played a part. I agree that you'd have to get VERY lucky to shoot a 59 @ St. Andrews and I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. Just mentioned it as an "off the wall/you never know what could happen" type of thing. In my heart I believe Woods will win the tournament (although I'll be rooting against him like I always do) by a stroke over Goosen and a resurgent Jose Maria Olazabal. I want Montgomerie to win, but I fear another historic collapse tomorrow.

    House Show Report

WWE recently completed a house show @ Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Attendance was very good for a wrestling show @ Rupp, not quite a sellout but most of the available seats were packed. It was more people than a WCW Thunder taping I went to about six years ago @ Rupp. The crowd was pretty hot for the action and a lot of matches got changed from the initial card that was released a month before the show. Here's my review of the action. -Viscera beat Tyson Tomko with a Viscera bomb @ 5:55: Viscera got a good ovation from the crowd and nobody cared much about Tomko. Pretty bad match as you can imagine that was thankfully short. Only good highlight was Tomko stealing a fans hotdog before the match, tempting Viscera with it, and then tossing it away. *1/2 -Kervin White pinned Tajiri after grabbing onto the ropes to block a sunset flip @ 7:48: Crowd didn't care too much for Chavo's new gimmick. Tajiri got a great ovation and a lot of "Tajiri" and "ECW" chants. A lot of people I was sitting by expected this to be an aerial match, but both men kept it on the ground. White exited the ring to the tune of "Just the way you look tonight." White stalled far too much to make this match something to remember. *1/2 -Christy Hemme pinned Victoria with a sunset flip after Victoria missed a running shoulder thrust into the buckles @ 3:44 (Maria was special ring announcer): Victoria & Hemme both got face-like ovations from the crowd and the crowd didn't really pick a favorite for much of the match. However, Victoria got a lot more mini chants than Hemme did if that's any indication of who they were rooting for. Before the match Victoria tried to get Hemme to give her a "forgiveness hug" and Hemme resisted before giving in, allowing Victoria to cheap shot her to start. After the match, Victoria attacked Hemme and then hit Maria on the floor but Hemme & Maria came back and double-teamed her to run Victoria out of town. * -Tag Team Championship Match: Hurricane & Rosey defeated The Heart Throbs to retain the belts after a Hurricane top rope splash off of Rosey's shoulders (while Rosey was sitting on the top rope) @ 10:21: This was actually the first tag team match I'd ever had to chance to witness in person. Heart Throbs got a terrible reaction as no one gave a crud about them. Hurricane & Rosey got a decent ovation and when they hit the ring the crowd worked up a big "Rosey" chant. Standard tag team match here, nothing special to report. ** -Jonathan Coachman came out and announced a change in a lot of the night's matches. He said the Gene Snitsky vs. Big Show match was being changed to Edge vs. Big Show, the Shawn Michaels vs. HHH match was being changed to Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair, and that the John Cena vs. Edge match for the WWE title was being changed to John Cena vs. HHH. Funny bit as he said that he called HHH to appear in Lexington and HHH said he would only wrestle "if he could fight for the WWE title." After that announcement Coachman invited Renee Dupree down (at which point the crowd headed for the concession stand in DROVES). After a weak promo, Eugene came out to a wild ovation with a monkey. Coachman gave Eugene two seconds to leave the ring and when he didn't Dupree took his money, tossed it back and forth with Coach, and then ripped it apart. Dupree beat on Eugene for a little while with Coach, but after Dupree accidentally blasted Coach with a forearm off the ropes, Eugene hit Coach with a Rock Bottom and then Dupree with a Stone Cold Stunner to send them packing. Yuck. -The Big Show defeated Edge (w/Lita) by DQ after Edge hit him with a chair @ 9:56: Weak "you screwed Matt" chant at Edge that died down after the first ten seconds of the match. Big Show got a good reaction and Edge did as well, but the match followed the same formula as the Viscera-Tomko match. Lots of stalling in this one to start and then Big Show no-selling a lot of Edge's offense. Snitsky tried to come down and interfere, but got blasted by Show. After the DQ, Big Show swatted the chair away from Edge and gave Snitsky a chokeslam. Funny moment as Snitsky finally recovered and the crowd chanted "you suck" at him. When are they gonna release this guy? *1/2 (sensing a pattern?) -First intermission was announced -Intercontinental Championship Match: Carlito pinned Shelton Benjamin with a Flair pin @ 19:16: Crowd was really behind Shelton during the course of this match. Carlito didn't get a good heel reaction on the way to the ring and Benjamin didn't much either, but that changed after the match started. Lots of stalling to start by Carlito. This was the perfect example of a wrestler trying to carry an entire match on their shoulders as Shelton popped out his moveset continuously to keep the match going. Carlito busted out a few decent moves (swinging neckbreaker and a nice looking faceplant), but very little otherwise. Match had a lot of near-falls towards the end and Shelton had Carlito down for a seven-count after a spinning kick, but the referee was distracted trying to retie a turnbuckle Carlito had undone earlier. Crowd completed hated the finish here and I tended to agree considering that I guess Carlito's finisher is to use the ropes for pins. *** -Shawn Michaels defeated Ric Flair with Sweet Chin Music @ 13:36: HBK got a MASSIVE ovation from the Rupp Arena crowd and Flair got a disappointing pop, although mostly cheers and a lot of people bowed down to him on the way to the ring. After he got inside the ring Flair cut a promo against the Kentucky Wildcats, ridiculed a guy's girlfriend in the crowd, and then ridiculed a fat guy sitting in the first row by the aisle. Standard match you see on TV between these two with Flair working over Michael's knee, applying the figure-four, getting it reversed, Michaels pulling down Flair's tights letting the entire arena see his bare ass, Michaels throwing Flair off the top rope, and then hitting Sweet Chin Music. Still, nice to see these two in action live. ***1/2 -WWE Championship Match: John Cena pinned HHH with the F-U @ 20:56: HHH got the biggest heel reaction of the night (although there was about 20% of the audience cheering him, go figure) and Cena got a massive face pop (although not as big as HBK). Good wrestling sequences littered this match and HHH took control after hitting Cena with a microphone on the arena floor. HHH mocked Cena's "you can't see me" gesture several times. The end came after Cena delivered a Five Knuckle Shuffle (which got a two-count), backdropped out of a Pedigree attempt, and blasted HHH with the F-U for the three-count. Afterwards, Cena picked up a microphone, said the crowd was great, said his chain gang is open to everyone, and left. ***1/2 Overall, I'd say this was a decent house show. The crowd was hot for most of the matches, but I was personally disappointed with some of the wrestling. It isn't too much to say, though, that all of the matches after the first intermission saved this show entirely b/c the five matches beforehand were pure crap. Still, though, since WWE comes to Lexington about once a year I'll probably get tickets next time, although I hope it's Smackdown and not Raw.

Who is the cable provider for wrestling? I missed the handouts after the show, I guess b/c I was tired and was leaving. We have Adelphia here so I was wondering if the 24/7 thing was available. Nice to see someone agreed with my analysis of the show. I've never attended a WWE show (even though I've been a fan for 11 years) and I was sorta disappointed. But I had great seats for lower arena and my $20.50 so I wasn't going to complain too much. I was disappointed Angle & Jericho weren't there, though. I do agree that Carlito in my mind now sucks in the ring and that's going to be hard to change. The sooner Shelton gets the belt back the better I'll sleep at night. By the way, I do agree that Flair-Michaels was the Match of the Night just b/c the crowd was into it more than the others, there wasn't really any major stalling, and they actually used psychology. I was glad to see HHH job cleanly too.

Guantanamo Bay “has become the gulag of our time"

"Oh mommy! They made a woman massage by back and rub lotion on it! I've been tortured! Waaaaa!!!" Please, give me a break. This isn't torture in the slightest and as a previous poster indicated is just a sign of immature behavior. I wish these idiots running the place down there at Gitmo would realize that when you have people back here on the homefront who want to exaggerate ANY piece of evidence they can get their hands on for "torture in the gulag of Gitmo" they don't need to fan the flames.

the one who leaked CIA op's name to Novak was....

Thank you, that's what I've said initially. Plame wasn't a covert operative so there has been no crime committed and special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has created a media firestorm over a convoluted case. After all, we have Miller in jail & Cooper initially threatened with it (a punishment totally exaggerating their "offenses") and we've had this big debate over press freedom vs. national security. Also, there is no crime committed here for various reasons. I went searching through the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982 and it's very hard to nail someone for disclosing an operatives name b/c there are different categories for the offenses. Under one category, the person who leaks the name has to have a security clearance to have access to the information, has to deliberately disclose it, and the government has to be in the process of trying to keep the operatives name a secret. Under another category (which is a little vague), someone is intentionally disclosing an operative's name to damage national security. This act is very convoluted b/c it was written in order to prevent special agents from disclosing other agents identities and not for Washington insiders to be punished for disclosing the names. If Rove has said that he learned the name from Novak then I don't see how he's leaked anything. Also, if Plame wasn't a covert operative NONE of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982 was violated and Rove can't be hauled into court to face charges b/c Plame's life wasn't on the line due to this. Also, I only mentioned Wilson's past dealings over his lies of going to Niger b/c his op-ed piece in the New York Times started this entire mess. Thus, if he hadn't have opened his big fat mouth to lie about Iraq not trying to get yellow cake in Niger then we wouldn't have any of these problems to begin with. In other words, Joseph Wilson brought all of these problems on himself and his wife, simple as that.

The Supreme Court didn't necessarily outlaw the fact that people can't smoke pot for medical purposes b/c they didn't rule California's "Compassionate Use Act" as unconstitutional. Instead, they just said that CA couldn't protect its citizens from being prosecuted by the federal government under the Illegal Substances Act for smoking it. However, considering the feds do arrest people for this stuff very rarely, I dunno what's gonna happen to those using it for medical purposes. I had a big problem with this ruling in the first place b/c unlike the 1942 Great Depression ruling (cited as a precedent) where a farmer couldn't grow an excess of wheat against government quotas, the government never showed how pot smoking in CA would hurt the federal government. In 1942 (which I believe is the year for this ruling) the government showed that having one farmer grow an excess of wheat could depress prices by as much as 40%, they used no such statistical data for that ruling. I'm not totally convinced that the religious right is going to push for an outright ban on abortion for the court. They know that doing so would totally overplay their hand and actually hurt their cause. After all, why would they want to lose political influence in Congress/presidency which would imperil future Supreme Court appointments over Roe v. Wade? I'm not saying there aren't those who want Roe v. Wade overturned (b/c I personally don't although I support more restrictions) but I think the religious right would do themselves more harm than good in getting this case overturned in the future. The big fight over abortion is in the next Supreme Court term where a New Hampshire law requiring minors to notify their parents if they are having an abortion is going to be debated. This case is what the pro-life/pro-choice sides are gunning for right out of the gate b/c it'll show whether the new court favors more restriction on abortion or will still leave it open for discussion. And Rehnquist does rock as far as I'm concerned. If he goes, though, either by dying or becoming incapacitated I wonder who will be the next Chief Justice. We all know Bush likes to be "first" with stuff...maybe Clarence Thomas? (Although THAT would inaugurate another big fight considering Thomas's 1992 nomination barely survived a 52-48 vote)

    British Open

Haha, I never guaranteed a Wie victory above. The guy she was playing absolutley demolished her 5 & 4 b/c he did what I've been thinking any golfer needs to do to shut Wie down in the tournament: birdie a lot of holes out of the gate and then hold on. Wie didn't lose b/c she played poorly. She lost b/c her opponent played awesome in quieting the crowd right out of the gate and never letting up except for a bogey on #10 (which he got back with a birdie on #11). However, that's the nature of match play and that's why I love it as opposed to stroke play. I'm still not going to give Tiger the victory even though at the moment he's four shots ahead. It's not like a four shot deficit is impossible to overcome ESPECIALLY at St. Andrews. Heck, Sports Illustrated even said four years ago that if anyone is going to shoot under 63 (or even 59) at a major championship it's likely to happen at St. Andrews. All that has to happen is for Tiger to stumble a bit on Saturday and have someone down by a few shots to make a comeback. Is that going to be hard? Yes, it's going to be VERY hard, but it's not like a four shot deficit is impossible to overcome, especially with 36 HOLES to go. Now, if Tiger still has a four shot lead going into Sunday then yes, I believe the tournament is over. All you need to remember, though, is that David Duval was down by like six shots to Tiger in the final round @ St. Andrews in 2000 and by the time they got to #10 he was only down by three. Thus, I'm not that quick to give Tiger the nudge to victory, although right now he's looking pretty awesome out there. I'm still pulling for Montgomerie. I know that he always tends to implode when he's in contention down the stretch (and I'd guess that a meltdown will happen quickly after a few holes on Saturday) BUT I think if he gets his ass in gear this could be quite a showdown. Montgomerie has a lot more than Tiger to prove at this tournament (because people expect him to meltdown and fall apart), especially since he's playing near his hometown. The crowd hates the fact that the Americans have won EIGHT of the last ten British Open's and the European Tour wants to have a major brought back to it. Additionally, Montgomerie has admitted that time is running out for him to win a major. He said that if you asked him if he'd win one between 1994-1999 he'd have said yes, but now he's not sure. Therefore, with the crowd behind him and with him personally wanting a win Montgomerie has an outside shot against Tiger, although to win he's going to have to shoot about 66 or 67 on Saturday AND Sunday. Go Monty!
