OAO Raw Thread (6-20-05): Angle v. Some Big Guy

I'm just wondering how HHH will justify putting himself in a WWE title feud with Cena immediately after he's lost three consecutive main events to Batista for the World Heavyweight title. That would just appear stupid.

    Triple H was wrong

Haha, interesting thread to put this in since these two bisect each other but wasn't HHH supposed to END the Undertaker's winning streak @ WrestleMania X-7 before the booking got changed? If so, thank God that didn't happen.

    Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc DVD

Actually, if your going to put a match with Rick Rude on this tape I would include the rematch Warrior had with him for the IC belt @ SummerSlam 1989. That match gets overlooked by a lot of people but was a helluva lot better than the WrestleMania V match AND MUCH better than the SummerSlam 1990 cage match. That match wasn't memorable b/c the crowd was dead due to the match following Hogan-Earthquake and the only thing I specifically remember is Rude doing a chop off the top of the cage.

Poll Finds Dimmer View of Iraq War

Of course people don't vote for people who don't have alternatives. They just appear like they hate the status quo but provide no initiative to change it. I think the Dems are doomed for 2006 if they keep stonewalling Social Security reform, alternative energy reform, and Bolton's nomination. Hell, if I were Bush I'd let them filibuster everything and then run TONS of advertisements with the GOP's money in '06 to paint them all as obstructionists.

    Biggest Wrestlemania XXI surprise?

Trish over Christy to me given the choices. I was scared to death they'd make Christy the women's champion over Trish and have her do her stupid "Raw dance" and defend the title against the Diva Search 2 participants in pillow fights for the next 6 months.

The OAO RAW Thread for June 13th, 2005

Starting with the Royal Rumble I started to get back into the WWE but tonight's Raw is really making me question that. The show just plodded on and on and on and I was expecting a Cena/Jericho vs. Tomko/Christian main event but NOO!!! we have to be overshadowed by HHH yet again chuming with Batista, HBK, and Angle. Here were some things that came to mind, though: *I don't give a damn about the Diva Search. I didn't care about the last one, I hate Christy Hemme, and I don't want it sucking up TV time *I sure hope Shelton Benjamin beats the HTM's record but it won't happen unless the WWE wants to re-write history *Is it just me or is the WWE Title now like the Intercontinental title and is the Intercontinental title now like the European title? *Austin's act is growing a little stale on me as well *I sure as hell don't wanna see the Edge-Lita wedding next week and the only thing to save that segment is Matt Hardy but odds of that are one in a zillion *Nice to see them add the triple threat to Vengance, I might buy for that match, but I probably won't *That 1980s DVD looks kinda cool, although I'll have to check the full match list before buying *We got to see a Raw tonight with Kane vs. Grenier AS THE MAIN EVENT?!?!?!?! *The WOOOing duel between Angle and Flair was hilarious *I loved Angle's comeback with the Stephanie shot @ HHH, made my night Basically, I'll watch next week because it's become a ritual again but I won't be too thrilled for the next seven days in anticipation of it coming back.

Change of announcers needed on Raw

Hell, just cut to chase and bring Jesse Ventura back. Hardly any one was better on color than "the Body."

    What's your favourite

Yea, Jake's promo versus DiBiase @ WrestleMania VI is one of my all-time favorites as well. Even Mean Gene doesn't quite know what to say when Roberts finishes up.

Why is WWE still bothering with the women?

Well, thank god for the renewal of the Monday Night Wars for the 9-10 hour with TNA on WGN. I think I'll be voting with my remote control when the divas hit the screen.

    More bad news

Yea, I live in Kentucky and can't catch any Toronto Maple Leafs games unless they make the playoffs but now I'll be screwed with ESPN not picking up the option. IF the NHL does return the product on TV will probably suck b/c NBC Sports has terrible production. I rate it behind CBS and ABC on golf, its former production of MLB games was a helluva lot worse than Fox, and I can't stand their coverage of the Olympics. May God help us all.

    HHH's Motivation

When Triple H started his first world title reign I had no problems with the guy but he started rubbing me the wrong way when he ruined the WrestleMania XVI main event by winning the four-way dance against the Big Show, the Rock, and Mick Foley and was the first heel champ to leave WrestleMania with the belt. I got a big "wtf" moment after watching that show. However, if people really want to do something and if TNA is coming back on WGN on Monday nights just turn the channel to that if HHH comes out for an interview. Maybe people can use ratings to influence the WWE direction, who knows.

    NBA Draft Lottery

I'm rooting for Utah to get the #1 pick. They're still my team even with Stockton, Hornacek, and Malone no longer in town.

    NBA Eastern Conference Finals

Yea, I see this series as going to Detroit in 6 games as well. Wade can't carry Miami through this series with Shaq below 100% like he did against the Wizards because the Pistons have shut him down all season long. I agree with the TNT crew last night that to win these games Miami is going to have to score 90+ points. I don't see them doing that for 4 games in this series, simple as that.

Watch the NBA rig the draft lottery and have the Lakers miraculously get the #1 pick.

Come Visit my Golf Rankings Website!

Fair enough criticism but I think that Europe has a lot of bright talent that a lot of people don't talk about (i.e. Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie, etc.) that decide to play in Europe and not in the United States. After all, Europe has had dominating performances in the Ryder Cup because of this talent. Also, the rankings give more points for World Golf Championships, the PGA TOUR Championship/PLAYERS Championship, and the majors so the gives ample opportunity for a lot of golfers on the PGA Tour, if they are indeed better, to gain points on their European counterparts. After all, most of the golfers in the top 25 are ranked in the world top 25 as well. Just my take on things.

Come visit my golf rankings website. The site is updated every week featuring that week's PGA Tour and European Tour tournaments. Also, right now a simulated match-play championship is occurring (double-elimination) for the top 64 golfers in last year's rankings. Here's the site: Kierk World Golf Index

    What records

Tiger's win by 15 shots at Pebble Beach in the 2000 US Open actually isn't the record for winning margin in a major championship. The 1862 British Open I believe was won by 18 shots and I'm sure that record isn't coming down anytime soon. Also, I think Joe's hitting streak in baseball @ 56 games is pretty safe and even with 3-pointers and free throws in today's NBA no one is going to score 100 points in a game.

    The Surviiiiiiiiiiiivor Seriiiiiiiiiiiiiies Thread

1.) Favorite world title match at the PPV? Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in 1992 2.) Favorite SSeries team elimination match? Team WWF vs. Team WCW/ECW 3.) Favorite face / heel (or both) SSeries team assembled? Hulkamaniacs in '89 (Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, and Demolition) 4.) Favorite non-world title, non-team battle match other than Austin / Hart? Mr. Perfect & Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair & Razor Ramon in 1992 5.) Favorite segment? The fight over who'll throw in the towel for Bret Hart in the 1994 match against Bob Backlund OR The two finger salute Shane McMahon gives Steve Austin to screw him over in the world title tournament semi-final against Mankind after he counts to two on a pinfall 6.) Things you hated besides the Montreal Screwjob? Randy Savage & Jake Roberts not getting to participate in their 1991 Survivor Series match giving us LOD & Big Bossman vs. Natural Disasters & IRS as the main event which made practically no sense at all

Old school shows of the week #5

The 1991 Royal Rumble pay-per-view was awesome for the WWF for the most part. You had an awesome tag team match between the Rockers-Orient Express to start off, the Barbarian and Bossman working their asses off to put on a *** match, and an awesome turn for Virgil against Ted DiBiase. HOWEVER, my one major complaint about the Royal Rumble is this: what the heck happened with Rick Martel? They put the guy in there to get the time record of 50+ minutes and then didn't even let him get to the final two. There was NO REASON why Earthquake and Brian Knobbs should've been left in there with Hogan. I think the WWF made the right call with Hogan winning the Rumble b/c the patriotic fervor from the Gulf War demanded it but the final two in the ring should've been Hogan and Martel. If you watch this Rumble you can tell the crowd is giving Martel a lot of heat but the WWF didn't even push him to the next level or even to the IC title effectively killing his heat with the dark match @ WrestleMania VII against Jake Roberts. Oh well...

    Best hyped PPVs?

Without question the 1998 Over the Edge pay-per-view with the main event of Austin vs. Dude Love. While the rest of the card was underhyped for the most part (except for the NOD-DX six-man tag and maybe the Sable-Mero affair) the main event with its many facets of stacking the deck against Austin cemented the McMahon-Austin feud. I can't remember before or since when a main event had so many components built into it that made perfect sense and that culminated in a beautiful, creative finish.

King of the Ring 1997 Tourney Question

I remember seeing Ahmed Johnson defeated Triple H in the first round of the tournament but suddenly Triple H re-entered the tournament against Crush and then went on to win the whole thing that year. What was the point of having him in two prelimary matches and did someone just have a brain fart in having him lose to Johnson?

    Unexpected Title Wins

I also remember Marc Mero beating Faarooq in the finals of the 1996 Intercontinental Title Tournament that was held on an episode of Monday Night Raw. I totally expected Faarooq to win the match and take the belt (since he was supposed to win it from Ahmed at SummerSlam) but I was completely taken by surprise when Mero hit his finisher and took the title.

    Unexpected Title Wins

The biggest upset I remember was the night after In Your House III when Yokozuna & Owen Hart lost the tag team belts to the Smoking Gunns. You might say it wasn't much of an upset since the Gunns were about the only good team in the tag division after the Allied Powers fell off the map as challengers but c'mon the Gunns had lost on numerous occassions to Yoko & Owen. It just appeared to me that no one aside from a super team was going to take them down so it was shocking when they lost the belts.

    Was Goldust nearly WWF Champion?

Knowing how Goldust had a lengthy house show and sometimes on-air feud with Shawn Michaels (albeit not on pay-per-view) in 1996 was there any consideration given to him for a WWF title run? I know the idea might sound crazy here in 2004 knowing that the Goldust character is out of the WWF but from its debut in 1995 to 1996 it was pretty over with the fans as a heel act. Would it have really hurt the WWF to put the belt on him in your all's minds? Just came across my mind watching an old 1996 tape yesterday.
