What DVDs would you like to see the WWE release?
Just John replied to iggymcfly's topic in The WWE Folder
Another one I'd like to see is 2-3 disc set for Dean Malenko. It wouldn't sell too well overall, but net fans would go crazy for it. -
Nastiest head drops in wrestling history.
Just John replied to The Mandarin's topic in General Wrestling
Not necessarily my top 5, but some to think about. - Nash's botched jackknife on the Giant - Sid folding Brian Pillman in half at Wargames 91 - Misawa giving Kobashi a Tiger Suplex off the ramp to the floor. - Misawa giving anyone the TD 91 - Kobashi giving Samoa Joe the Sleeper Suplex where Joe just came straight down on his own head. -
Well, ppv events are typically what define a year as far as wrestling goes. Shows like the Rumble, NWO, Backlash, Judgment Day, Fully Loaded, and Summer Slam all hold up today. I'd say most of the free tv is probably fine. I remember there were a lot of surprisingly good matches from that time period like HHH/Taka, HHH/Rikishi, That 10-man, etc. Plus E/C were being funny every week, along with Angle, Crash, Big Show, the hardcore division, and so on. The acquistion of the Radicals and Jericho made for a sick midcard, and the ME scene was solid. The storylines were really good for most of the year (up until about when Rikishi was revealed as the driver), so I imagine Raw and SD were good on a week to week basis for most of the year. I doubt many individual shows were truly special, but if we saw something of that quality in place of Raw next week, smarks would be going crazy.

I don't normally watch SP much, but I did happen to catch last night's episode by chance. All I have to say is the "Family Guy joke lottery" scene with the manatees was spot on and hilarious.

How about an Edge/Christian DVD? Cover their days in the brood, to their transition as a babyface high-flying team. Obviously, the main focus would be on their heel days and TLC matches, and then wrap it up with Edge's KOTR win and subsequent Christian turn. I'd go for a Booker T or "Death of WCW" DVD too. -
Even so, the T-Wolves couldn't out-suck the Rockets tonight. Houston needs a good draft pick more than any team in the league. The average age of that team has to be about 84.

Movies that everyone loves that you cannot get the love for
Just John replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in Television & Film
I'm not feeling the Gladiator hate. I love that movie. Apocalypse Now... Now, that's a boring movie. Especially the Redux version. Maybe the shorter version comes across better, but I have no desire to find out. I liked a lot less than 40 minutes of that film. Oh well. Different strokes for different folks. -
Show looks good, but no Rey? Why?
-
Perhaps I should have been more clear. I meant when Batista got injured the first time (the lat injury) that he worked through, not the tricep injury that forced him to the sidelines. If I recall, there was going to be a triple threat with Batista vs. Orton vs. Eddie at the supershow that took place on the day Eddie died. I'm pretty sure they wanted Batista to take time off at that point, but once Eddie died, they almost had to let Batista work through the injury since there was no one else to put the belt on. Orton was still feuding with UT at that point.

Godfather and Apocalypse Now. To a lesser extent, Napoleon Dynamite and Super Troopers. -
If Eddie hadn't died, Angle wouldn't have even been champ before Rey. There would've been no need to move a Raw guy to hold the World title since they could've just put it on Eddie when Batista got hurt. I think Rey still would've gotten the title eventually, but not as soon as he did.

The OAO RAW thread for April 10, 2006
Just John replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
Back to back weird Raws, I see. I'm still liking the Trish/Mickie feud even though WM was definitely the high point for the feud. I'm not quite sure I understand Trish's mind game motives here from a character standpoint, but I'll give it time to pan out. No question this is feud of the year so far. Vince doing the HHH pose with the holy water was awesome. Rest of the show was average to bad. Oh, and us hearing Kane's voices in his head is not cool. -
The real problem is finding a way for Angle to job to Booker, yet keep him credible enough for a World title match. I wonder if Angle will call Sharmell a gutterslut again.
-
That's what I thought they were going for when I watched it live. If JR or King made the point that it was from the leg work, I doubt most people would even worry about it. Although, it's not like good ring psych has never gone over the heads of WWE announcers before.

I always get concerned early, even in sports with long seasons like baseball. I always say at the end of the year when a team's coming down to the wire for a playoff spot that if they hadn't coughed up a game to some scrubs in May or June, they wouldn't be in this situation. Every game counts in my book, at least until you clinch a playoff spot.

Trish carried Mickie and MITB was ****? Right...
-
I think choice "B" is the reason for his most recent burial, which is pretty dumb. An overreaction by UT, and pure stupidity by Matt. Seriously, who's gonna remember you took a chokeslam more than a week later?
-
Why is Mickie James so low? She just pinned two divas who are nearly untouchable as faces in back-to-back days and got the title. And why is Matt Hardy on the list at all?
-
Yeah, there's no denying there's a lot of potential for good matches in the tournament. Angle/Orton, Benoit/Finlay are guaranteed, and Finlay/Lashley, Booker/Benoit, and Angle/Benoit are all possible matches. It'll be fun and give us some good tv matchups, if nothing else.
-
What a difference 6 months makes for some of these picks. Looking at it now, I'll say... 1. Kenny 2. Mr. Kennedy 3. Paul London I really think Rey is going to be a true pioneer in letting smaller guys get to the top.
-
I wish they would've put in Burchill instead of Henry. I think this HAS to culminate on free tv, because 4 of those guys have other angles going on leading to the ppv, and one won't be around at that time.
-
I think we have a new front runner for UT to kill at the GAB this year.

SD just continues to pile on the quality shows. MNM vs. London/Kendrick could be a great feud if done right. Excellent match tonight between the two teams. I suspect there's plenty more where that came from. Gunner Scott showed potential in his match. I don't follow OVW, but it looks like this guy could be another positive addition to the SD midcard. Benoit's clothesline on Simon was awesome. The Rey/Randy match was pretty good, but not as good as their SD tv match last year. I definitely didn't like Randy controlling 90% of the offense since he kept going back to the damn chinlock. He's really frustrating to watch in the ring, really. He shows flashes of good offense (like his dropkick to counter Rey's springboard or the 3.0), but then he just can't do anything to follow up except go back to the chinlock. Just let Rey get some more offense instead. I mean, he is the new World champ, and Orton's about to take a break, so it wouldn't hurt to put Rey over really strong. I like Burchill, but he and Regal really don't have any chemistry. Stop pairing these two together. Yay for KOTR returning. I always did like that concept. Boo for no Lashley/Finlay continuation. Come on, that was one of the hottest feuds going, and it needs to keep going strong for a solid No Holds Barred match at JD. Boo for Dalip Singh too. He looked most unimpressive in his debut. A chop to the head, repeated headbutts, and a kick to the face? Yawn. Hopefully this does not get pushed as the main event for JD. Overall, solid show. Hopefully this Dalip/Taker angle dies quickly.

I agree. I don't know how London and Kendrick are on the mic, but even something as simple as 2 minute interview could go a long ways to connecting with the fans, especially since everyone already likes them in the ring. MNM just needs more skits, period. Melina's the second best diva in the company right now and plays a good "smart bitch" kinda role which is great for playing off the air-headedness of Mercury and Nitro. Those two are like a poor man's Edge and Christian, and I mean that as a huge compliment since E/C were almost untouchable as far as backstage comedy goes.

I have to agree with the sentiments that the talent is there, but the booking is not. MNM is a great team, but they've constantly had their momentum interrupted by makeshift tag teams. The LOD 2k6 thing was probably the worst. MNM was really getting over and them taking the belts from Eddie and Rey at the end of their partnership got them off on the right foot. Unfortuanately, they were dicking around most of the summer while we had to endure the endless supply of LOD jobber squashes. Then when MNM got the belts back, they only held them for a couple months before jobbing them to Batista and Rey. Sure, they won 'em back the next week thanks to Henry, and the first meeting between MNM and the Eddie Guerrero Memorial Connection was a really good match, but it really hurt their credibility. Still, that's all in the past. I think there should be some lengthy title feuds between MNM, London/Kendrick, and the Mexicools. I could even see those 3 pulling off a good TLC. Raw's a little bit murkier, but I think they're going the right way with the Spirit Squad. They just need to put the SS in a match where they don't bump around for 5 minutes before getting the fluke win.
