    The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

I love the Heat, but they're not getting past Indy. I wouldn't be surprised if they won game 6, but they have no reason to believe they can win game 7. Indy puts this one away, then jobs to the Nets and we get a rematch of the 2002 finals. I think the Nets would do much better against the Lakers this time around. They obviously don't have an answer for Shaq (Jason Collins? Aaron Williams? Brian Scalibrine? Bitch, please). However, they could abuse the old guys with fast break points. Martin and Jefferson are infinitely better this time around, too. They may not win, but they certainly wouldn't be swept.

That Flyers/Lightning game got ugly at the end. I loved how the announcers tried to cover for Radimojevic (probably butchered his name) by saying he was the better man for not fighting back after he got his ass kicked by Andre Roy.

Well, this year the big game 5 shot went down for the Lakers. I can't imagine how Duncan felt when that one went in. I counted LA out early, but they've hung in there and could very well end the series next game.

    The Smackdown Thread!

I know I'm late, but I have to ask. What is with calling Chavo Sr. "Chavo Classic?" I'm glad he won his first WWE match, but I don't understand the name change.

    Non-Spoiler SD match listings

Yikes, nothing on that show makes me want to watch. I will, but I'll probably be let down even with my low expectations. RVD vs. D-Von? I can't see that being too exciting other than the guaranteed top-rope neckbreaker spot these two always use. Jackie vs. Chavo Sr? What a joke. Fuck the bookers for putting the CW title on the most un-over employee. FBI vs. Booker? Probably not a squash like Taker, but Book will still win. Crowds are never hot for heel/heel matches, though. Rico vs. Hardcore? *sigh* Cena vs. Sakoda? Typical Cena squash. Probably a "rap" making fun of Japanese people too. JBL vs. Mysterio? Rey suffers the fate of El Gran Luchador. With him pulling jobber duty, one must wonder why the CW title wasn't put back on him.

I'm really starting to love the Heat. They're young, hungry, and have an awesome crowd. I'm glad they're hanging with Indy. Hopefully, the Kings will win tonight to make every series 2-2. That would make up for that terrible and non-competitive first round.

    Raw ratings takes a dive

I don't follow network tv, but maybe there was some big season finale or something. Hopefully, they don't go into panic mode and do any of the following: - Put the belt back on HHH - Push some green OVW "talent" to the ME - Acquire a washed up vet and insert him in the ME - Give the McMahons a more dominant tv role

Because my first name is Dave.

    Best/Worst NWO era ppv

You're absolutely right, but my question was if he ever won any matches besides that one. Also, to stay on the real topic, I have another nom for worst. WW3 1998. I was looking through some old results, and I remembered that I actually watched this horrible show. It contained: - Glacier (post injury) vs. Wrath (after excessive roid use) - Stevie Ray vs. Konnan - Cat/Sonny Oono vs. Saturn/Kaz - Steiner monthly no contest - Unexciting battle royal dominated by Nash
  10. You're probably thinking of JD 2000. It was a good match, but it doesn't exactly fit the parameters of the topic. Eddie and Tajiri vs. Benoit and Rhyno Eddie vs. Cena (parking lot brawl)

I am totally not surprised that the younger, more ath-a-letic [/barkley] Spurs are dominating the Lakers. Phil Jackson should have talked to Bill Calahan and he would have found out that gathering washed-up has-beens (or more politely, veterans) does not help your team at all. The Lakers would be in the exact same position now without Malone or Payton. Except the younger guys would be getting more playing time to develop. When Tony Parker isn't clowning the Lakers in transition, Tim Duncan is having his way with them down low. Guys like Manu, Bowen, and Rasho are making solid contributions as well. Right now, Kobe and Shaq are doing all the work for LA. Spurs have this one in the bag. I hope the Heat can have a good series with the Pacers. However, I think the Pacers just have too much. Look for Indy to start cold due to the long rest, but rally past Miami in the second half.

I think there's gonna be a warm-weather Stanley Cup finals this year. San Jose in 6 Tampa in 7

    Best quotes by athletes

I always liked Jason Kidd's "We're gonna turn this team around 360 degrees" comment. Shaq's potty mouth tirade was pretty funny too. Shaq: These fuckin refs don't know what they're doin'. Reporter: Shaq, we're on the air. Shaq: I don't give a fuck.

I don't know if I agree with your placement of Kidman. Sure, he was a jobber for most of that time, but at the end of 98 he was getting a god push by CW standards. He beat Disco, Juvi twice, Rey and Juvi in a 3-way, and Eddie in the span of 3 ppv's. On another completely unrelated note, that list reminded me of Chris Jericho doing the announcing for the cruiser battle royal at Slamboree. "Next is Johnny Singer... Swinger? Whatever, he has no chance of winning."

    Report: Kevin Garnett Wins M.V.P.

KG has earned it. He should have won it last year, but Duncan wasn't a bad choice at all. They both make their teams infinitely better.

I loved both games today. Game 7 in Miami is gonna be extremely physical. Too bad that the Pacers have had about 10 days to rest and will molest which ever worn down team comes from this series. I think the Spurs will end their series a lot faster than most people think. They played at a consistently high level for most of the game and the Lakers couldn't keep up. Their washed up stars won't be able to compete with the speed of Parker and Ginobli. Duncan also murdered the Lakers in 4th and he will most likely continue to do so. I see the Spurs putting this on away in 5 games, but a sweep isn't out of the question.

Who were the kings of overselling?

I love Rikishi's clothesline oversell where he flips over. I remember a really funny one from a Bash at the Beach (I think it was 93). The British Bulldog takes a splash from Vader and the Bulldog starts convulsing like he was having a seizure. I always get a kick out of the Rock taking a stunner and doing a back flip.

    Best/Worst NWO era ppv

I haven't seen GAB 98, but the card doesn't look too bad. You've got Saturn/Kanyon, Eddie/Chavo, Jericho/Malenko, and Booker/Benoit, all going 10-15 minutes. There's also worthless stuff like Juvi/Reese, Goldberg/Konnan, and Sting/Giant (with a cigarette). Maybe not great, but it can't be as bad as some of the shows mentioned. Spring Stampede 98 doesn't look too good. The only matches that look good are DDP/Raven (no dq), Booker/Benoit and Chavo/Ultimo. Then, there's garbage like Luger and Rick Steiner vs. Buff and Scott Steiner. Also there's Giant and Piper vs. Hogan and Nash in a "bat on a pole match." The rest looked pretty average, except for Psychosis' first and last WCW ppv win. Not to divert the topic, but did Psychosis ever win any other matches in WCW? Even all of the tag matches I can remember had him on the losing side.

Best white player in the NBA

I would say Jason Kidd. He makes good passes to set up his teammates and can score in the clutch. Peja is another good choice because of his lethal 3-point shooting.
  20. Steve McMichael at GAB 96.

Best white player in the NBA

Mark Madsen could win the WHITEST player in the NBA award. Gotta love his dancing, though.
  22. This Tyson Tomko character looks like he could be it. He already botched a kick in his debut and looks like a typical big man. He probably has the generic OVW moveset as well. Based on all the hate for Kenzo Suzuki, I don't think Hirohito will be too popular either. Mordecai also looks like a potential flop.

Well, for the first time in the series, Houston actually played at a playoff level. They weathered Shaq's early flurry and played solid D most of the game. Steve Francis had his best game of the year. On more than one occasion he passed up a difficult shot (that he probably would have taken in game 1 or 2) and gave the ball to a team mate with a better look and scored. The biggest factor was the 3-point shooting. Cuttino, Steve, and Jimmy will have to keep that up to win game 4.

    Best PPV of 2000?

I voted for No Way Out. Sure, there was crap like Henry/Viscera and Tazz/Bossman, but overall it was an excellent show. Angle and Jericho had a fun opener, NAO got squashed by the then fresh Dudleys, Hardyz and E + C had their best non-gimmick match, Radicals vs. 2 cool was good, Rock vs. Show wasn't half bad, and the best HIAC ever with HHH and Cactus. Judgment Day is another possibility due to the greatness of the even numbered matches, but the mediocrity of the odd numbered matches puts it behind NWO.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks get booed off court at the Garden tonight. The closest the Knicks deserve to be to the playoffs is however far away thier couch is from their tv. They'll get blown out at least once more in the series and it will probably get ugly down the stretch.
