Probably because the world doesn't revolve around New York City. Reaching 70% of the country in a constant, great timeslot on a channel that isn't preempted on a channel people watch is better than reaching 90% in a changing terrible timeslot that's frequently preempted and on a channel people don't watch. That would be true if you know, they weren't going head to head with the competition for half of the show. TNA's total viewers in NYC will be roughly 0%, because unless you have a dish, you won't get the show. It would be one thing to give up some small city like Milwaukee, it's kind of foolish to give up NYC. Hasn't it been proven that anywhere from 0.3-0.5 of SD's usual 3.0-3.2ish is strictly from NY when it's been pre-empted for baseball or football? I don't know, but it seems kind of silly to give up at least 10% of my audience for any reason. 1.4 rating at 8:00-10:00 PM > .3 rating at 3:00 PM and paying for your timeslot. Simple as that.

Unfortunately WGN is dry in the Northeast, although I think they have a couple affiliates. Primetime in 75% or so of the cable-having homes is better than 3:00 in any homes.

God damn. This is tremendous news. We just have to hope that a) people put the show up for download each week, and b) TNA doesn't fuck up by putting two minute jobber squashes on the program.

I remember that one show was so bad, the only thing they could say about it in commercials was that Will Smith is an Executive Producer for it. Nothing about what the next episode is about, just watch cause Will Smith is the Executive Producer for it. Yeah, that's "All Of Us." If there's one thing UPN does that is very smart for business is that they stick with almost all of their crappy comedies for years. They realize that syndication results in big bucks, even for crap shows, and that the risk of canceling a show for another is not worth the extra .5 they MAY pick up if the show is a success.

Actually, that's only in certain markets that the affiliates split time with another network. It's kind of like how FOX used to be split with ABC in several markets. Most areas have different programming for UPN and Fox. I think he meant 10 hours of original programming each week.

I think they'll film a full season, run half the episodes (or even less with the playoffs), and save the rest for another time. FOX likely looks at it like this. For one, they're not going to cancel AD before 24 comes on. That timeslot is just locked for them for half the season. And two, if the ratings go up and the episodes warrant being reaired, they have the episodes. And if it fails, well, if it fails then they have the DVD sales featuring "10 unaired episodes" or what not to plug.

In their minds, they've decided to revitalize their line-up as a whole. Friday nights used to belong to Star Trek and a rerun of some sort, while Smackdown hit its plateau a long time ago. You can't place comedies on Friday night because ABC and NBC has that market cornered. So in theory it makes sense to throw some comedies out on Thursday that will garner much the same ratings as Smackdown, and then move Smackdown to Friday, which will garner the same ratings most likely. Actually, if anything, the ratings may just rise. Little kids are stuck at home on Friday nights with parents who don't care if they television until late.
