Yeah, I can't believe this guy is bitching about only one national title in nine years, as if it's just assumed that Michigan should win multiple national championships in that time period. Do you know many coaches have two titles in that time? One. It was Tom Osborne, and it sure took him a hell of a lot longer to build Nebraska into a power, then it did for Lloyd Carr to pick up a title in Michigan. Oh, and since this dipshit's apparently so up on Michigan football history, how many titles did Michigan have in the ten years before Carr took over? Or the twenty years before? Or the forty years before? The answer's one less than they did with Carr or zero. When a guy takes over a program, leads them to a national championship within three years, and then keeps them among the absolute elite, winning a title in a BCS conference nearly half the time, no one should be bitching. Apparently, Crimson Platypus might as well stick to baseball and become a Yankees fan, because that's about the only team in all of sports that will satisfy the ridiculous win quotient that (s)he's looking for.

Movies that people say they hate... without seeing
iggymcfly replied to a topic in Television & Film
I rented Gigli to see what the "worst movie ever" would be like, and I have to admit, I kinda liked it. It wasn't good in the classical sense (Affleck's character was way too over-the-top of a parody), but there were still plenty of funny parts. The retarded kid was fucking gold, and J'Lo's just so smoking hot that she gets it a couple bonus points too. -
Yeah, I watched most of the game, and I can't even fathom why you would leave Joe Nathan in there. I mean I thought it was stupid enough to leave him in for the beginning of the inning, but then after one walk....and another....with 50+ pitches.....what the fuck was Gardenhire thinking. I swear, sometimes, I think I could handle all the in-game managing decisions better than a lot of these shitty managers. I guess that's what's so "special" about Joe Torre. He'll just use a little bit of common sense, and not make stupid decisions to blow a series.

I called Santana beating the Yankees tonight (as well as Schilling beating the Angels and St. Louis roughing up LA), but I still think New York will come back to win it in 5, and end up making the World Series.
-
Actually, I could give a fuck about the support for Schilling but that three days' rest argument does really piss me off. Since when do starters need four days of rest in the postseason anyway? This is just some fallacy that started out a year or two ago. It wasn't that long ago that starters would pitch on three days' rest all season in a four-man rotation, and now they can't even do it four or five times in the playoffs when the season's on the line? That's fucking bullshit.

source: ESPN.com That's right if the season ended today, Georgia, not Oklahoma would be playing for the national title. Of course, Oklahoma's probably gonna get a nice boost if they beat Texas; and over the course of the season, the computer rankings will level out, as all the teams between Georgia and Oklahoma lose. However, USC is the only team in the country that truly controls their own destiny.
-
Did Glaus's last homer remind anyone else of something from "Major League"? The cheers and fireworks seem like they should be sarcastic, when they're still down seven runs in the 4th inning.
-
Actually, I could easily see both Oklahoma and USC losing this weekend. I didn't have the balls to actually pick against either of them in Bored's contest, but I kind of get that same feeling with both of them that they might not do as well this year in a big-game situation. Oklahoma's not the same efficient machine that they were last year when they'd keep playing well against Texas A&M with a 70 point lead. It seems like this year, they might be expecting to breeze through Texas, and then be shocked when the Longhorns run up a 24-7 halftime lead. I still say Texas falls apart in the end, but it seems like if there were ever a year for the Horns to spring the upset, this would be it.
-
I'd say that out of that whole list, Texas and Oklahoma State are the only ones that even look as tough as Stanford. Strength of schedule isn't important just to punish ADs who don't schedule good teams. What it does is show how well a team is performing. A team that's undefeated against a good schedule should be placed ahead of a team that's undefeated against a mediocre schedule regardless of where someone might have possibly thought some team would be ranked when the season started.

THURSDAY Houston at Southern Miss Clemson at Virginia FRIDAY UNLV at BYU SATURDAY Oklahoma vs. Texas Minnesota at Michigan Illinois at Michigan State Stanford at Notre Dame Georgia Tech at Maryland Wisconsin at Ohio State Oklahoma State at Colorado California at USC (I was flip-flopping on this one forever. If it was at Berkeley, I would have picked Cal in a heartbeat, but from the Rose Bowl, I just can't quite do it.) Tennessee at Georgia Arizona at UCLA Purdue at Penn State Florida State at Syracuse Nebraska at Texas Tech LSU at Florida Missouri at Baylor Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the UNLV/BYU game? 44 Tiebreak #2: How many total yards (passing & rushing) will Virginia's Marques Hagans have against Clemson? 261

The top of the Boston rotation makes them a tougher opponent in a short series. (i.e. the ALDS) However, they have such a huge mental hangup, than I don't think any impartial observer would favor them to beat the Yankees in the ALCS. Oh, and as for my predictions: Yankees over Twins in 5: Santana will have 2 good outings, and Radke will have one, but the Yankees will steal at least one game in the late innings, because that's what they do. Red Sox over Angels in 4: Anaheim hasn't been that strong in October, and with Schilling and Pedro pitching, I can't see the Angels getting more than one game. Astros over Braves in 3: Atlanta's been asleep for the last few weeks while Houston's been the hottest team in baseball. Clemens and Oswalt will each win their first postseason start, and there's no way the Astros lose game 3 at home no matter who pitches. Cardinals over Dodgers in 4: I'm really not that impressed with LA, and while they might steal one in St. Louis, I don't see it getting them anywhere in the long run. Yankees over Red Sox in 6: I say the Red Sox actually manage to win games 1 & 2 in New York behind Schilling and Pedro. However, after losing game three, they decide the sky is falling, and then blow a 4-0 lead in the 9th in Game 4. At that point, they basically give up, and let the Yankees roll the rest of the way. Astros over Cardinals in 7: This should be an excellent series, as the hottest team in baseball takes on the best team in baseball, but I think in the end Clemens and Oswalt should be [/i]just enough to get the job done. Yankees over Astros in 7: Roger Clemens will win his first two starts, and try to go out as Superman, but he'll get left in just a little too long, and touched for a grand slam as the Yankees beat the Astros 4-2 to win the World Series.

As someone who thinks our troop presence in Iraq needs to be drastically reduced, and who's certainly not voting for Bush, I still think that Bush won the debate by a strong margin, and I don't get the idea that Kerry "obviously won" the debate. Kerry did not get any kind of a solid agenda across; all he did was attack the president. If Kerry did anything to differentiate himself from Bush, he could have won the debate easily. If he'd said, "our troop presence is too large, and that's provoking the Iraqis" or "it's ridiculous to send out our National Guard when we're not even at war", or done ANYTHING to say what he'd do differently from Bush's "terrible" actions, then I could have respected his argument more. All I got out of the debate though was that Kerry wanted to criticize the president, but had no solutions of his own to change the situation.

Sure, I might as well raise my hand too. My team may not be undefeated, but I am. I'm 2-0 as Bowling Green baby.

The ratings are based on how well the teams have performed this year. Louisville has been one of the most consistent teams in the country. They shut out solid Kentucky and North Carolina teams by scores of 28-0 and 34-0, while also running up 50 points on lesser foes such as Army and ECU. We won't know exactly how good they are until they play Miami, but they've certainly been impressive thus far. Virginia's also dominated every game they've been in by at least 3 touchdowns, including scoring 56 against Carolina. Meanwhile, Utah ripped a Texas A&M team that looks better by the week, and while they let Air Force hang around a little bit, they never let the game get completely out of control. (i.e. depending on the other team's kicker to miss a late FG)
-
OK, I was completely wrong about Georgia. They're an excellent team that should contend for the national championship. I publicly retract anything bad that I ever said about them. With that out of the way, here are the new college football rankings. (Last week's ranking is in parenthesis.) 1. USC 4-0 (1) 2. Oklahoma 4-0 (2) 3. Georgia 4-0 (12) 4. Auburn 5-0 (6) 5. Miami 4-0 (3) 6. California 3-0 (11) 7. Purdue 4-0 (8) 8. Texas 4-0 (4) 9. Arizona State 5-0 (7) 10. Florida State 3-1 (10) 11. Louisville 4-0 (14) 12. Utah 5-0 (15) 13. Virginia 4-0 (17) 14. Boise State 5-0 (16) 15. Stanford 3-1 (18) 16. Tennessee 3-1 (5) 17. Florida 3-1 (21) 18. Wisconsin 5-0 (22) 19. Michigan 4-1 (23) 20. Oklahoma State 4-0 (NR) 21. South Carolina 4-1 (NR) 22. Minnesota 5-0 (NR) 23. LSU 3-2 (9) 24. Ohio State 3-1 (13) 25. NC State 3-1 (25)

UW's terrible. They're going 1-10 this year. And unfortunately, all of us here in Pullman know what that one win will be, coming somewhere around, oh..... November 20.
-
Kyle Orton looks amazing out there. If I wasn't gonna have to move up Georgia and the Auburn/Tennessee winner, I'm pretty sure Purdue would make it's way back into the top five. On the bright side, I get to move Texas down. I didn't really think they'd earned the 4 spot, but I couldn't figure out who else to put there when Purdue was paying mediocre ball against the Illini.
-
Is anyone watching this LSU/Georgia game? Not only have the Tigers been taking it up the ass, they turned around so Georgia could shoot it in their face too.
-
Shit, Georgia is kicking ass out there. If this keeps up, I might have to completely retract everything I've said about them being overrated. Even that ugly broken reverse got a decent gain.

The only thing that differentiates booze from weed or tobacco, is that it's more ingrained in the culture. That's the reason that prohibition was the most collosal failure in history. People will NOT do without their fucking alcohol. No tobacco or marijuana people might accept, but if you take away their alcohol, you're going to have fucking mutiny on your hands. By the way, the only response that really stood out to me was Mad Dog's. He was right about almost everything, and then he goes and utters this stupid shit about the pledge: Pledge- If you can't handle the word God then I suggest you lock yourself in a box and throw away the key. The point is that the real pledge has nothing to do with anyone's stupid mythology, and to see this bullshit added to something which is supposed to pledge your allegiance to the United States of America is retarded. True, it's one of the least important issues you could find to debate in the whole race, but you still couldn't be more wrong. Just saying you should lock yourself in a box because you don't want to see dumb religious propaganda added to the pledge of allegiance to out nation makes you sound as unintelligent as just about anything you could find to bring up.
-
Well, I'm as close to a neutral observer as you're likely to find, since I know that I'm not voting for Bush or Kerry, and I have to say that Kerry lost that debate badly. He basically just took potshots at Bush, and completely failed to establish his own agenda. He talks about what a terrible decision it is to be in Iraq, and then when he's asked what he'd do, he can't even make a major distinction between what Bush is doing, and what he'd do. You know how HHH's feuds are all about HHH? Well, this debate was all about Bush, and it made Kerry come off looking like a joke as a result.

Ok, they have a big feature up about college football scheduling on ESPN.com. A big part of it was about how I-A teams could only play 11 games this year, and that was cutting into the marquee matchups in the non-conference schedule. Then, I read another quick feature in the same group, about Idaho, and how they only have 3 home games to go with their 9 road games. I think they must have screwed up since that would make 12, but I checked their schedule, and it's right. They have 12 games. What the fuck's going on here?

Iraq war: Against. If it was in the best interests of America to get rid of Saddam Hussein (which is questionable), we did it, now get out already. I'm not saying we should have no military presence over there, but it should be greatly reduced. There's no need to deploy everyone we have on reserve just so they can hang out and piss people off until they get shot. Big govt./Small govt.: Small definitely. The purpose the government is supposed to serve is to protect the rights and freedoms of the citizen. Nothing less, nothing more. War on drugs: Legalize marijuana, and completely decriminalize the rest. It's somebody's own business what they put into their own body, and there's no reason to lock them up in prison for a personal choice. Spending millions upon millions of dollars to prosecute and imprison people for something that does not infringe on anyone else's rights is utterly ridiculous. Abortion: Oppose. If close to half of the country thinks that there is a living breathing human inside of a mother's womb, then it should certainly not be an allowable medical procedure to kill this being on the court decision that it doesn't have rights yet. Gay marriage: Should certainly be allowed, as telling people who should and shouldn't get married is prying way too far in on their business. However, heterosexual couples should still get priority on adopting children, as having gay parents is kind of a difficult start in life. Social programs: Should be cut way down, and made much more efficient. I'm not in favor of letting children starve, but with the current economy, every healthy adult should be able to take care of themselves. Taxes: Should be reduced, especially for the wealthy. The fact that the top bracket is supposed to pay 50% of their income is pure socialism, and the fact that any major company needs a ridiculously overpaid tax lawyer to keep a reasonable share of their profits is ludicrous. Pledge: Return it to the way it was originally written. The pledge of allegiance was supposed to be focused on one's allegiance to the indivisible union, and the "under god" line was a totally contrived addition which serves no purpose whatsoever. Guns: Except in the case of convicted felons, these should not be restricted by government. A basic background check should be plenty to buy whatever you want. The founding fathers didn't put the right to bear arms in the Constitution so that you could hunt deer. Affirmative action: Completely unnecessary. Race should never be a criterion in any hiring or acceptance Court system: Should completely eliminate punitive damages from civil suits, and should be given less discretion in criminal sentencing. The idea that a judge can be pissed off that a defendant used his Constitutional right to plead innocent to a major crime, and give him a disproportionate sentence based on that fact alone is not something that should happen in a free society. Death penalty: Permissible in extreme cases, but should be made much more efficient. All appeals could easily be heard in 5-8 years, and the process could be made much less expensive and more efficient. I heard somewhere that the cost to put someone to death is more than to keep them in prison for life, and if that's true, it's retarded. Shit, just tranquilize them, and then chop their heads off. Sex education: Sure. Knowing some basics about contraception is more useful to 12 and 13 year olds than most of the crap they learn in school. Racial profiling: Should be allowed to an extent. Don't necessarily stop people because of their race, but if an 20 yr. old Arab is on a flight with a retirement village from Florida, I know who I want checked. Medical care: Health insurance is not something that should be guaranteed by the government. If you want health insurance, pay for it. If you think you can get by without it that's your choice, and it's your fault if you end up having to declare bankruptcy over the charges. Bush: For the most part, useless. Takes up the worst parts of the conservative agenda, (banning gay marraige, useless wars, the Patriot Act), and then ignores the heart of it. He does cut taxes, but instead of actually cutting spending to pay for it, he just adds on to the deficit. Kerry: Maybe even a little bit worse. One of the liberals who is convinced that the reason the US is more successful and economically viable than Europe has nothing to do with the fact that we're not socialist. There are plenty of socialist countries out there, I don't see why we can't have one that's free. Oh, and if you couldn't tell from my signature, I'm voting for Michael Badnarik. One vote won't decide the election anyway; I might as well try to send a message that some of us out there want a true conservative, and if the Republican Party won't give it, we'll get one elsewhere.

I guess they figure that going 0-11 as a member of the WAC is better than going 5-6 as a member of the Big Sky. It's kind of funny, when they first joined I-A, they had a pretty strong team, and won the Big West one year, but the longer they're in I-A, the further and further downhill they go. At this rate, they've only got about a two-year window before dropping to I-AA won't even be able to bring them back to respectability.
-
Actually, they didn't play any home games over here last year, but yeah they do have two this year. The Wazzu game was pretty pathetic, as not only does all the revenue go to Washington State, Idaho hardly had any fans there at all. The east end zone had Idaho fans, and everyone else at the game was from Washington State. I'd say that out of 35,000 fans, maybe 3,000 were Idaho fans. It really makes me wonder how bad the attendance is going to be on their other "home game" over here. It's only 8 miles from Moscow to Pullman, but none of their fans give a shit enough to get there.
