Genesis is 'O Fortuna', and you're a shameless heathen to suggest otherwise Raynor.

Actually, I've tended to find that it's tricky to build angles around the World Title. Either your challenger just waltzes in with no reason for getting the match (me vs Landon) or is meant to win the contendership match and doesn't (like when Spike lost to Mak so Mak faced me for the World Title - still a good match, and he deserved it, but I was feuding with Spike at the time).

Actually, Dub-Cee said something different. It wasn't about declining a match against a younger, better writer - it was about being booked as a challenger to a belt that he didn't want. So he believes he can win the match, or at least has a chance to, but doesn't want to. Say there's a guy who hates writing hardcore matches, but it looks like he's being booked to challenge the Hardcore champion. Either he can write the match and potentially win a match he doesn't want to win, because he'll win the belt and then have to defend it in more hardcore matches (which as previously stated he doesn't enjoy), or he can not show/job and lose a match that then counts against him. I mean, win/loss records aren't that important, but I wouldn't want my character to lose a match unnecessarily. Besides, this thread was about ENCOURAGING people to show. WC's point was that he can see a situation where even getting a title match would encourage him NOT to show.

    End of Year Awards

Hey, you've got an argument for tag team of the year. You've got fuck all competition (or, more realistically, you're no worse than the competition). As for Stable of the Year, it's between you guys and Cucaracha Internacional.

And I'll add an agreement to Dub-Cee. Certainly with Toxxic it'd be fine, because if I'm using Toxxic then I'm in this full-time and out for anything I can win. When i was using TORU and Amy though it was more about being involved but not doing anything that took too much effort if I didn't want it. Then again, with TORU and Amy I wasn't really precious about their win/loss records, so maybe it's not quite the same.

I actually second Zed's remark. It's not quite as true this time through because I've got the tag thing going on as well, but certainly in Toxx's last run I found that when I became World Champion the amount of matches I was booked in dropped off drastically.

I got paid last Friday. There's no other point here except just to go "nyah-nyah".
  11. Well, it's a well-known fact that American fog isn't anywhere as thick as British fog, Tom. People have DIED from London fog. What you had was light mist. And in my day, we couldn't shout across valleys. If we raised our voices above a whisper we'd have our intestines removed by our parents, thoroughly caned, and then replaced in our bodies. And it never did us any harm.
  12. Bank Holidays suck? I'll take a wild guess and say you weren't working this one, sunshine. I was. ...and in my day, we had to walk uphill to school BOTH WAYS through a blizzard.

    End of Year Awards

Hmm, that's a possibility. I'll look into it, seeing as how I've hijacked these awards due to no-one else wanting to do them, and therefore now have sole control over EVERYTHING, down to and including taking bribes. If any of you would be sad enough to bribe someone on the basis of awards for a fictional wrestling federation, bribe away.

    Evaluating - Chris Jericho

I want Jericho to come back and tell someone to PLEASE... SHUT... THE HELL... UP! I don't care who. Anyone. However, better than anything he could do in the WWE would be to end up in TNA and wind up involved with Alex Shelley, because those two on the mic would be entertainment like no-one has ever seen before.

I still remember when Spike wrestled Stryke and did the "two wrestlers run at right angles across the ring and keep bouncing off the ropes and missing each other and then one of them stops running and watches the other one still running" spot. You know the only other person I've seen use that in a match since? Eugene.
  17. Fine, guess I'll just have to break your neck too...
  18. Drea, Jimmy The Doom makes me a sad panda. Not because of the character himself, but because I have to write against him. The tag match was OK, but... I've set druids on fire, I've had him beat the referee with a haddock and I STILL can't get motivated to write a decent match here.

He's perfectly entitled to. And don't forget he won a couple of those categories last year.

Yes it will. I have no doubt that me and Landon will be defending either the show before Genesis or on Aftershoxx. EDIT: Also, regarding the stagnation of the title scene and the 'World-Title-as-cheap-whore' scenario - I've got no real problems with that, as such. The problem in 2004 is that no-one was really trying for long enough to matter, and people kept winning over no-shows. If they'd taken it in competitive matches (there were a couple, granted) it wouldn't have been as bad. The other thing is, while I'd like to see someone new with this belt I'm keeping warm, I'm damned if I'm going to job the fucker. This is a competitive match-writing fed, and to job the biggest prize seems... wrong. Besides which, it would also seem unfair to job to one person and not another.

    Kurt Angle released!

He's also busted up pretty bad, and if recent reports are to be believed was politicking pretty bad towards the end. Don't get me wrong, the addition of Angle WOULD give TNA a boost, and maybe the reduced schedule could even help him out... but if WWE lets him go due to basically being too sick to work and TNA picks him up, what sort of message does that send out to the wrestling community? "Yeah, we're even less concerned about your welfare than the WWE. Wrap your heads around THAT, if you can."

Promo: “With Eyes Ever Turned Inward”

I like this one too. Not quite as good as the last one - for some reason it doesn't read quite as well - but still does the job well, builds to the match, gives Spike a reason for being as he is while still making it clear that he's a bit of a prick. if you bring the sort of effort to the match that you've put into these two promos then Bruce is going to have a real fight on his hands.

To be fair, when was the last time that the upper midcard fought for the World Title? I mean, the title was a cheap whore in 2004, but that was generally because someone would win and then either quit, so the next challenger won to a no-show, or lose their first defence and then quit (or in the case of Danny, lose it, win it back, lose it again and THEN quit). Since I've been here the champions have been Danny, Va'aiga, Grappler, Duran, Danny again, Kibs, Danny AGAIN, Janus, Me, Johnny, Me again, Landon, Sacred, Me AGAIN, Ejiro, Johnny again, Danny AGAIN, Mags, Wes, Landon again, Me AGAIN. Out of that list at the time they won the title, I'd say that the only upper-midcarders would have been me the first time, Johnny both times, possibly Landon the first time, and maybe Duran. Wes WAS a midcarder, but he won the Clusterfuck to get the shot which changes matters (besides, it was fucking Muzz, which means he was a main-event writer even if not character). Zed basically set me up to win the title because he was sick of people passing it around and knew I'd at least show - I got my first title over a Janus no-show and Tom not writing a match that actually conformed to the rules. Johnny was a surprise package the first time and due to Ejiro disappearing had an easy run at it the second time over a no-show (not saying he wouldn't have won anyway, but we'll never know). Landon won the CFC the first time around which gave him a main-event 'boost', plus he was leading the stable dedicated to taking me down. And Duran was leader of the Unnamed after Va'aiga left plus had history with Grappler, so it made sense for him to take that shot. The only time the World Title has gone from one upper-midcarder to another was when I dropped it to Johnny. To me the problem seems to vary between in 2004, all the World Title-calibre writers burning out and quitting just after they got there, and since then no-one new being able to break onto the scene.

Windy, bear in mind that Drea was like the third person to ever hold the World Title, back when it was the IGNWF. Now, that wasn't with Jimmy The Doom of course...

Spike - by my system, if it had been implemented when you beat Drea then yes, you WOULD be Number One Contender. It's not perfect by any means, but it means that while it's likely the people queuing up for a shot will be the better writers, it's not impossible for an 'outsider' to get in through a herculean effort, over a no-show, or similar. So theoretically, if the best writers are going to be in the top 5 and you beat one of them, it really will count for something. Raynor - as for the other titles, I don't know about that. I had this system purely in mind for the World, really. It'd get kind of clunky to keep track of all the results affecting all titles. One addition: If we were going to try this, it might be an idea to announce dates on which the title will be defended well in advance. Otherwise someone could be sitting in the number one slot for a few weeks without getting a shot, then get deposed and their replacement instantly gets a shot, which wouldn't seem fair.
