SWF News and Notes for 12.17.05 The next few months could be critical for the SWF, as they have to build a legitimate, main-event challenger to El Luchador Magnifico. His presence with the title has helped continue the period of stability the company has had recently in the main event scene (barring brief wobbles with Johnny Dangerous and Danny Williams) but Magnifico is suffering from a problem that is one of the worst that can plague a heel champion - too few strong face challengers. The Spike Jenkins 'loser' run that led up to Ashes 2 Ashes showed some promise, but eventually turned into nothing more than a confirmation of well-worn wrestling theory - the bookers usually lose their nerve around putting such a notorious failure over, and he loses in the big match as well. Now Magnifico is facing Todd Cortez, who does at least have a submission victory over the World Champion, but after a year that has mainly seen him having a good run with the Hardcore Title and feuding with Landon Maddix in the upper midcard, opinion remains divided over whether Cortez is ready for the top slot. He is clearly comfortable in the main event matches, as shown by his unsuccessful challenge for the title against Toxxic earlier this year and in several high-profile matches since then, but backstage sources doubt whether Cortez's microphone skills - never the most prominent of the federation's - are up to the job of cementing him as the new superstar he would surely become if he beats ELM. Rumours still persist of a Cortez triumph, but as is usual in the SWF, the smart money seems to be on Magnfico. Many of those calling for a Cortez victory are doing so by pointing to one of the other most prominent matches on the card, the final of the Cold Front Classic between TORU Takahara and JJ Johnson. Takahara would make a suitably monstrous heel opponent for a newly-crowned Cortez at the Clusterfuck, whereas Johnson's UFC-influenced style could play off nicely against the Urban Legend's martial background. However, it is worth bearing in mind that TORU can play face as well as heel and could be used as either a monster face to end the reign of the cowardly Magnifico or as an impressive opponent for ELM to overcome by nefarious means. Meanwhile, although Johnson is still a heel there have been flashes - such as the end of the CFC Battle Royale, and in the Cruiserweight Title match against Landon Maddix - where his no-nonsense gimmick has connected with the fans, and in any case Magnifico is such an accomplished heel that virtually anyone he faces will get face heat. Perhaps the most telling fact is that with Takahara’s very limited grasp of English and Johnson’s legitimate throat injury that still prevents him from speaking much it will be the World Champion who will have to carry the bulk of the mic time leading up to the match at Clusterfuck, and confidence will be greater in Magnifico’s abilities than in Cortez’s. It’s the end of another year, and it’s time for Wild vs. Dangerous again. This time the duo aren’t fighting over a drug-running storyline but over a rather more realistic breakup in their team morale, and with the addition of a retirement clause. How long any retirement will last for is a moot point - the SWF being somewhat lenient in that regard - but sources say that it is, for the moment at least, legitimate. As to which member of the record-breaking tag team will be bowing out some point to Johnny Dangerous’s greater age, plus his two failed runs with the World Title, as evidence that he is calling it quits. Others postulate that Wildchild is genuinely unhappy about the fact that his long-term tag partner has twice been raised to the highest point of the SWF while he, who even when they were both faces always got the larger pops, has never been awarded the belt, and has decided to try and make his living elsewhere. However, rumours that Johnny Dangerous might be taking over the SWF’s website appear to have some foundation in fact, and it would be difficult to see how he could do that while constantly on the road with the company. Those of you who have been following ‘Smark Enough’, the SWF’s reality show where viewers get to vote who they want to see get a guaranteed SWF contract, may have noticed something familiar about new SWF arrival Kevin Coyote. It is in fact Kevin Douglas, who was voted off the show in the first couple of weeks but who was awarded a contract by the SWF anyway due to the promise they saw in him. The ‘cocky upstart’ gimmick may have been done to death, but with a background from Smark Enough where he was legitimately disliked by the other trainees and received heat onscreen from William Heartford III for his attitude that he already knew how to wrestle (he has done a couple of years work in several indy promotions under a variety of names) he at least has a solid foundation for it. The Landon Maddox / Max King angle isn’t very clear at the moment; King’s choice of Maddix as his tag team partner for a tag title shot would point to a ‘crazy tag partners who hate each other’ theme so beloved of Thoth during his booking run with the company. As for the match at Ramadomination, sources say that’s it’s still completely up in the air as to who will win (which probably means that only the bookers know for sure who’s doing the job).

Blazenwing vs Blazenwing was brilliant, and I agree about the 'fun' thing. Which is why I like TORU as he's so much easier to do stupid things with than Toxxic. The rest of the show - brilliant. Fantastic. Kickass. And thanks for JJ for putting together such a brilliant match and making TORU look like a fucking monster even in defeat.

Happy birthday for yesterday, Zack

I'd like to point out that my ability to choose the stipulation of my PPV match as granted by pinning El Luchador Mag-fucking-nifico in that Fatal Four-Way seems to have disappeared as no-one consulted me before the card went up. ...but two-out-of-three falls will do nicely

Does anyone know what the criteria is for unlocking all the movesets? I've got the first one.
-
Yeah. For example, I'm in there right now. No-one else is, mind you. To be honest, since I've added most of the fed people I have immediate involvement with on AIM I don't really bother with chat much.

Bah. Video promos are SO cliche, dahling. Nice one Mags

Drea can't post properly. She sucks. Whoat.

SWF Ramadomination Predictions
Toxxic replied to Secret Agent's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=- The Main Event - SWF World Heavyweight Championship Match El Luchadore Magnifico © vs. "Urban Legend" Todd Cortez ~I'd love to see Cortez take it, but come on, this is Mags. If Cortez DOES take it then we've just made a new superstar. -=-=-=-=-=- Loser Leaves the Fed I Quit Match Wild vs. Dangerous ~Someone's jobbing. I pick Johnny to lose and leave. -=-=-=-=-=- Cold Front Classic Finals: 2/3 Falls JJ Johnson © vs. TORU Takahara © ~Should be fun is all I'm saying. -=-=-=-=-=- SWF International Championship Match Jay Hawke © vs. Wes Davenport ~Muzz is a former World Champion. That sort of pedigree makes me give him the nod here. -=-=-=-=-=- Landon Maddix vs. "The Icon" Max King ~If both men write and show to their full potentials... Landon. Otherwise, who knows? -=-=-=-=-=- SWF Ultraviolent Championship Match - Dog Collar Chain Match Bruce Blank © vs. "The Divine Wind" Akira Kaibatsu ~I think probably Bruce. -=-=-=-=-=- Hollywood Spike Jenkins vs. Zyon ~Zyon. Just please God don't turn heel to do it. -=-=-=-=-=- Opening Boout Kevin Coyote vs. Ced Ordonez ~I'm thinking the Coyote -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=- BONUS ATTRACTION! SWF FROST David Blazenwing vs David Blazenwing ~We should have booked Blazenwing vs Ced. I mean come on, Undertaker vs Underfaker was crap. This is gonna be worse. -
I thought the Cortez/ELM promo was good, and Cortez should promo more. Also thanks go out to Johnny for writing a full match and putting me over, even if it did suit him too there's no reason not to thank him for it. I'd like you all to note that J3 is slowly becoming me, for which I claim no responsibility whatsoever.

My match has the greatest amount of quality in the shortest quantity I've ever managed.

You know, I'm thinking that they should get some other vaguely-flabby but fairly brawny guy and bring him up, then send him around kicking the shit out of all the jacked-up pretty boy heels like Orton and Masters and Dupree and Grenier and... well, pretty much everyone they've brought up in the last three years except Murdoch and Snitsky, I guess. The heels claim their magnificent physiques and excellent conditioning will win them the day, then Stan Hansen-a-like takes them out. Not only would you have a face that the vast majority of fans would get behind, but the WWE would be sending a positive message about non-steroidal wrestlers. Plus after a while, wrestlers (heels at least) might not WANT to take roids cos they know they'd get jobbed out!

If I use the phrase "I'll have you know" in a post it means the post is not intended to be taken seriously. Think of it as being posted in a pseudo-stuck up tone of voice, a sort of jokingly offended way. I tend to steer clear of smileys because they compromise my deadpan image. Plus they're pure evil.

My 'Whamming' and 'Bamming' took me to three World Titles, I'll have you know. Make of that what you will. I'll comment on the show when i have less life.
-
I'm up for facing Stryke wherever and whenever. Plus if my match wins tonight, there'll be a good reason to as well.

RAYNOR! DELETE YOUR PMs SO I CAN SEND YOU THE OPENING PROMO AND MY MATCH!

I call opening promo.

How about David Blazenwing vs Ced Ordonez? You kicked him in the face on Lockdown, after all. (seriously, you think you've got it bad? Bobby Riley was turned into a gay charicature).

I love the fact that Bruce speaks like a hick when he's being written by Bruce, but speaks like a well-read and intelligent individual when written by... well, I'm assuming Zed. Maybe one of them is Bruce's little brother?
-
How about Wes plays Chuck Norris as the special referee, and we get Jet Li to be Jesus? Yes, I know. A stupid idea.
-
...when did my 'mongooses' sig get that big? And yeah, someone tell Akira about his opponent, quick. Cos damn, that just ain't fair.

Yeah, I know the shot's at the Fuck. I just had it in my head that the winner of the tournament was either going to be decided AT the PPV (which would prevent me from defending the Tag Titles on the PPV, if I get to the finals), or would be decided BEFORE the PPV, which I don't think we have enough time to do now. I just wondered if it was going to be decided at the PPV, or whether we were waiting until after the winter break.

So... what the hell is happening with the Cold Front Classic? By this time last year we'd gone through the premlim rounds and we were about to crown the winner. Now I'll admit that last year the title shot was at the xmas PPV, but still. Are we having the final at the PPV? And if so, and if I get there, when will I be defending the Tag Titles? Just curious.
