Well, the Eagles only blitzed once or twice during the NFC championship game and still got a lot of pressure on Vick. Plus, they kind of made the Fox people look stupid for hyping a Gibbs coached line to death.

    Super Bowl XXXIX discussion thread

Actually, that one was me, so I step in to help out here. I think that the Eagles have a good shot at winning for the following reasons. The defense has been playing great since inserting Trotter in as the starting MLB. And the Defense has been playing out of this world since Keith Adams has been filling in for Simoneau. The Eagles Secondary is the best in football IMO and should be able to match up well with the Patriots receivers. On offense, the Eagles have been playing with a lot of balance in the post season. With or without TO, they can move the ball and score. McNabb is playing the best football of his career, and he has moved into the pantheon of QB's in the league right now. Christ, Greg Lewis has come up huge the last two games, giving one more weapon to go along with Westy, C Lewis, LJ and FredEx. Throw in Pinkston, and the Eagles put a lot of guys on the field that you have to account for even without TO. Special teams should be pretty much even. Atlanta was supposed to have these great Special team players, and the Eagles completely shut them out of the game. So, I don't see the Eagles overmatched in any aspect of the game. And, Andy Reid has never lost the week after the team has a bye. He is not at the same level as Bill, but Reid and his staff are just a shade below. Look at the way Jim Johnson schemed for Vick and the Falcons. These coordinators know how to get the job done.

    What sport calls

Well, the obvious one in this category is "Do you believe in Miracles". Also, although it was long before my time, I think that I have heard "The Giants win the pennant, The Giants win the pennant" more than anything else.
  5. And has become everything that he says he hates ... seriously, he used to dedicate half an article to mocking shit like this, and now he goes on there and wusses his way through stupid, not-funny comments. Eh, for the past 5 years he's been begging to do stuff like this. It really is right up his alley. But, I agree on the talking like a wuss thing. He makes it sound in his articles that he and his gang are these tough cool guys, but after seeing him and hearing him, I kind of picture a bunch of tools sitting around playing dungeons and dragons. Makes it a little harder to read his articles the same way now.

    Largely forgotten

Did "killer clowns from outer space" come out in the 80's? If so, I nominate that whole heartedly. Also, I never really considered Goonies and the Lost Boys to be 80's flicks. They transcended the inherent cheesyness of the decade and moved to the next level of movies. Ones written by the gods.

See, that's what I mean. The Steelers and Colts are not better than the Eagles, especially the way all three teams have been playing as of late. The Steelers were incredibly lucky to beat the Jets and their QB fell to earth harder than anyone since Kurt Warner became human again. You cannot tell me that they're better than the Eagles right now.

I find it humerous that no one outside of Philly gives this team any credit still. What more do the Eagles have to do this year? Going into this game the only thing the idiot talking heads on tv said was how great the Falcons defense was and how their running game was the best in the league. Well, the Eagles put up 27 on that defense using a wide variety of offense in windy conditions. And that running game sure was great for the Falcons. Westy almost outgained them on his own. Now the talk will be how great the Patriots are and how they're a destiny and whatever bullshit they want to spew. That won't worry the Eagles. Finally, an early pick of Eagles 24, Patriots 14. Biatch.

Which QB has the most pressure on him this Sunday?

I agree that McNabb has the most pressure on him, but I also think that he is most apt to succeed this weekend. Vick is too one dimentional to go against a good defense, Rothsihsksljburger has the thumb thing and the Pats D thing in his way, and Brady will probably play safe and use Dillon a lot. So, McNabb definitely has the most pressure, but it won't end up making a difference.

Jim Mora Jr expected to coach Falcons

It's actually just Jim Mora by the way. His dad is also Jim Mora, but he is not a junior.

    A New College Hoops Thread.....

Win loss records play a part in seeding, but not the absolute biggest part. RPI is factored in, strength of schedule, big wins at home, big wins on the road, bad losses and a few others play a part as well. In your example, I think that Wake or UNC would still get a higher seed.

I'd say no to Eddie George. To much competition at his position, and he definitely doesn't pass the excitement factor needed for a running back. Priest has an awfully long way to go, and I don't think that his legs will hold out that long. He has been amazing the past 3 1/2 years in KC, but that's not nearly long enough to make it to the Hall, again see Davis, Terrell.

Let's settle this, once and for all.

I don't think that you totally followed my argument. I didn't ever say anyone was "less of a fan" or "inferior". I said that it is different. And I stand by that. You don't get all of the coverage, or the emotional tie in to the other fans when you don't live in that city. Last year, after another devasting loss for the Eagles, I took a walk and was amazed by the rest of the city. Everyone was affected by it. Living somewhere else, you probably hurt just as much, but it is not in such a large dynamic. This is a difference. It doesn't make you less of a fan, but it does make your situation different. As for your other arguments, I don't follow Japanese animation, and honestly I have no idea what Manga is (I wouldn't even be able to wager a guess), but I have a feeling that someone living in Japan would have a different appreciation for these things than someone living in the US. A person living in the US could and should still be considered a fan of the entertainment, but would not get all of the cultural references that someone who lives in Japan and is familar with the culture would. The person in the US is not "less" of a fan, but there will be differences there.

Two SBs is an accomplishment, no doubt, but I think he should win another one just to really shut people up, and also not disappear off the face of the earth like a certain hot quarterback from a couple years ago... I won't say his name, but it rhymes with "Burt Barner" Also, you have to look at someone like Terrel Davis. After Denver's second SB, and his 2000 yard years, he looked like a stone cold mortal lock, but injuries happen. Although, if Brady strings together another few years of even average play, or another SB MVP, I think that he will make it in. Brian Dawkins is an interesting one. He's been one of the best, but hasn't made that many Pro Bowls or redefined the position. I would vote yes on him, but I'm extremely biased. I would like to hear from non Eagles fans on him.

Lightening, I agree that you can live somewhere else and be a true fan of a team, but there is definitely a difference. There is nothing else to talk about to anyone in the Philadelphia area right now besides the Eagles. Even casual fans are into it, and are focused only on Sunday (which is a little annoying and a different story altogether). That is what you miss out on when you are a fan of a team that lives somewhere else, and what makes the levels of fandom slightly different. You don't get things like the Daily News running front covers of said team every day (when the Sixers made their run to the championship a few years ago, they were on the cover for 32 straight days). There is nothing wrong with liking a team when you don't live in that city (especially if you live someplace that has no team), but there are differences.

    This week in the NBA

So, I watch the Sixers on Monday. They try to blow a 20 point lead to N.O. End up holding on to win by 4. This ups their record to 17-20, but also puts them into a 3 way tie for first place. Sad times in the Atlantic.

    The Misfits!

Where Eagles Dare I always thought was one of the best punk songs ever. And for that matter, most of the Danzig era was good stuff. I stopped paying attention after that. Rancid is not horrible by the way. Out Come the Wolves is a mighty strong album, as are most of the rest.

Them's fightin' words. Agreed. Don't like our team and then take pot shots at our city. Philly is the best city I've ever been to, and I've been to most of them.

Let's settle this, once and for all.

I don't really care either way. Sometimes I'll say we, and I feel that I'm entitled to it. The only thing that really bothers me is how hip it is for people to berate someone who says we. Get over yourselves. Some people care enough to consider themselves part of the effort. You don't. Move on. It's so annoying when someone is trying to discuss a game, says we and then the other person instead of starting an intelligent conversation comes back with "well, what did you do today for the team" or some other non-witty reply.

    Conference Championship Prediction Thread

As someone who has watched every second of Eagle play for the last 4 years (well much longer than that, but those are the relevant ones to this discussion), I would say this team is far better than any of the others. Even without TO, the receivers are starting to show signs. The O Line is playing incredibly, Westbrook is 100% healthy (and one hell of a weapon) and the defense is as stong as it's been since the Buddy days. With the D line in the best shape it's been for quite some time and Trotter playing inspired football. I think that the Eagles will handle Vick suprisingly well and walk off with a fairly easy win (similar to this past week).

    Inauguration funds: A better use?

Well, DC voted for Kerry, so I guess this is Bush's "fuck you" to them. I don't think that it is a good idea for any President to accept such large sums of money from corporations. This type of action creates the wrong impression, even if no special favors are being given to the Corps in return for the funds.
