    Timeline...

If they kept the movie true to the book, it should be really good. I remember when reading the book (which I loved as an aside) thinking how easy it would be to turn into a film. I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

Who are the most narrow minded music fans?

Sorry to bring this back up from the first page, but I've got to disagree with this. Especially the Bad Religion part. Greg Gaffin is not working for the system. He is a college professor and has been since way before Bad Religion was even a speck on the radar. He's also has a phd. and is probably one of the most intelligent lyricist in music. I'm lost as to how this is selling out or working for the man or whatever. Back on topic, I think that any music fan can be very narrow minded. It's usually those who are hardcore fans of a particular genre who refuse to recognize that there are other good styles out there.

    O Town breaks up

I don't know who that is, but did I read right that one is becoming a volunteer fireman? As noble as that is, it seems like a small stepdown in careers.

    The Greatest Commercial

The new Bud ad has me dying every time. The one with the football player being interviewed after the game. "There's no I in team" "Yeah, well there ain't no we either." That and the anti-pot ad where the girl gets pregnant because she smoked weed was the funniest ad from last year's Super Bowl.

    The Simpsons

Hmm. I liked last nights episode. It got a quite a few laughs from me. I particularly liked the Homer ala beautiful mind. Found it funny for some reason.

What is the funniest TV show ever?

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Cheers. It's not my #1, which goes to the Simpsons, but I think Cheers and Seinfeld are close for 2nd. Family Guy was quickly moving up the list, but I don't think it was around long enough to merit a top five ranking.
  8. Right now, in my opinion, the US cannot back out of Iraq. There is no option but to see things through and help establish a new government over there. But that being said, I feel that we are losing far too many lives during our ocupation and spending far too much money reestablishing their country. I was wondering what the course of action should be in your opinion for the US in this situation?
  9. I've been stuck on the same authors for some time now and would like to branch out a bit. I pretty much only read Vonnegut, Tom Robins and Chuck Palahniuk right now and have made my way through almost all of their collective collections. Could anyone please recommend similiar styled authors.

    TMQ Fired from ESPN.com

Yeah, well the key to reading Peter King is to skip the bj's he gives Farve and anything non-football related, but I like reading the rest. He seems to get a lot of good insider information. Dr. Z's power rankings never fail to amuse me either. Especially when he gets towards the bottom and admittedly phones it in.

    American History X

A friend's little cousin is in college near me, and she needs to write a paper based on American History X. It's pretty broad assignment and she can write it on anything that deals with the racial elements. Anyone have any good ideas for this?

    TMQ Fired from ESPN.com

Wow, I was really wondering what happened to the column. It was always a fun little distraction from work during the day (and I use the word little loosely). Couple of other points.... 1). There's still MMQB by Peter King on CNNSI.com, which is always an excellant read. 2). The freedom of speech arguement doesn't apply here. He was free to express himself anyway he wanted to and faces no governmental punishment for his views, but his employers have the right to fire him. 3). I still really enjoy the Sports Guy (in regards to the person who said he was half-assing it). His NBA preview was another fun read. Hmmmm, that's all I got.

    Favorite Drummers/Bassists

Good to see another Mule/ABB fan in these parts. I just caught the Mule in Philly two or three weeks ago and was amazed once again. The chemistry between Abts and Hess was incredible, especially considering they haven't played together much. I was also really impressed with Hess as a bass player. I knew he had played with Scofield, but wasn't too familiar with his work. He lays down some pretty tasty bass lines. Also, I've always felt that Berry Oakley was underrated as a bass player. Wish he could've been around longer to see how his playing developed.

Best. Restaurant. EVER!, Worst. Restaurant. EVER!

I'm really not a fan of any chain restaurant. All the Applebys/Chiles/Fridays/Olive Gardens of the world don't do it for me at all. They mass produce way too much food and it is never as good as what you get in an individual restaurant. But, I did have the pleasure of eating at both Pappacito's and Pappadeux's in the Houston area a few weeks ago while traveling for work. I don't know if they're chains or not, but the food was excellent (especially at Pappacitos. Some of the best fajitas I've ever had.)

    A Few Things

Gore was smeared unfairly too by taking his quotes, slightly rewording them and placing them in a different context. Gore never said he invented the internet, but was ridiculed beyond belief for it.

    NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE

I thought it was funny the whole way through. Cheesey at times, but generally enjoyable. The cheerleader take-off of Bring It On is hilarious. I'll leave it at that.

Which is the best Tarantino flick?

This probably isn't going to go over real well here, but I thought that Kill Bill is extremely overrated. It was a cool movie, but far from a great one. RD is one of my all time favorites, and barely edges PF. I haven't seen Jackie Brown for a long time, so I'll pass on the official vote.

    Election (Philly Mayor)

I also already voted for Katz, but the whole thing kind of worries me. It seems like this is going to be another one of those "Philly makes national news" times, and they're never for good things. I agree that Katz was in good shape until the FBI bug was found. Then Street turned the election into an issue of him being held down and persecuted instead of being about the fact that 8% of the city moved out during his time as mayor.

    Manny Ramirez

My problems are not with Abreu's numbers. There's no arguement there, the numbers are solid. And I'm not a Philly fan who blames the best players (I wasn't even down on Pat the Bat this year, which should say a lot. I would have liked him to do better, but I don't blame him for the season). It's just that watching the Phillies day in and day out I never feel like Abreu comes through in the clutch or hustles. There are several plays where if you watch you can really see him loaf. That and his outfielding is probably the worst in the league. I'd still rather have him than a lot, but I'm not sold that he's one of the Phils best.

Possible REALLY bad news for the Dems

YEAH!! And maybe they'll be a terriorst attack, like a nuke, in a major city!!!! That'll show that Bush can't lead, and we'll get a good old Dem in charge. Of course, LOL FAUXNEWS2009 LOL will try to spin it like it wasn't Bush's fault, but we'll know it is, because OMG BUSH IS DUMB LOL. Sorry if good news for the country might lead to the person of you're choosing losing an election. Let's not jump the gun here. There's an extreme difference between the economy and terrorists. And what I said I thought was pretty clearly in jest. (But I apologize if it was taken the wrong way. It's really hard to write a dry sense of humor and have it come off right.) Yes, I don't want Bush to be President again, I'll never deny that, but I think that those discussions fit much better in another thread. I just wanted to respond to this post because I don't like that liberals are being painted as anti-American all over the place and made to seem like we're rooting for terrorists and the like. Just because I'm a liberal and don't support the President does not mean I do not 100% love this country. The best part of this country in my opinion is that we are supposed to be able to voice our opinions and displeasure with anyone, even the President.

    Scott Weilland arrested

It's kind of a long story, but he was parking, couldn't get in a spot, pulled into another and the cops saw this. They kept asking how much he had to drink and things like that and finally my buddy snapped at them and asked for a breathilizer. They took him to the station instead and made him get the blood tests. Cops are then allowed to detain you for 48 hours. The best part is at his trial the judge got the results of the blood work and told the prosecuter. The prosecuter asked the cops about this and they said my buddy was on a "Mystery Substance". At least the judge had enough sense to laugh this off and throw the case out. But it ended up costing $750 in lawyer's fees to drive sober.

Possible REALLY bad news for the Dems

Sean Hannity will probably blow it way out of proportion if you watch Fox News tonight. And as usual he won't be able to drink water when Colmes talks, lest their ventriloquist gig be discovered.
