    Tekken: The Live Action Movie

Eh, it sounds like it could be pretty good. If they have a Mishima as the villian, they don't need any Ogres or Devils to have a decent story. A Quest style tourney with Tekken style marshall arts would be fun. The fights need to have a Tekken feel to them though. If they have Kazuya fighting like some UFC guy, that would suck.

Stick, the SC2 or T4 stick.

    SF Anniversary Collection

Got this today. It's great, but damn my execution of 2D style moves is so bad. Trying to adjust to an Hori when I'd only played on American arcade sticks isn't making things any easier, either. I'm going to be a scrub for a very long time, heh.

    Tekken 5 at Evolution!

So, Namco debuted a playable Tekken 5 at Evolution this year, and people's first impressions seem really positive. WCM says that it's an early test version and that the final version won't be released here until Oct/Nov, but still, what they had there sounds pretty damn awesome. I'm really excited. http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/forums/showt...?threadid=66129 Shauno's writeup is really good.

Pink Rose - Kiyommy & Seiya Drop Out -NW260 Higher - NM feat. Sunny --- Meh. Very distinctly American. Konami's obviously trying to get away from the Japanese origins of DDR and make it more mainstream. I guess they're doing a good job, but I like the Japanese stuff much more than the American stuff, so it doesn't sit well with me. Especially since the American songs have generally had very boring, lazy steps. I can't see myself buying this, since there's no songs that I really want off it that I don't already have. I didn't like Max2 USA either, but at least it had Tsugaru, Breakdown, So Deep, Burning Heat and Twilight Zone. Even if you didn't import the vastly superior DDR Extreme JP, this still is kind of lacking in terms of bringing the good songs off of DDR Extreme Arcade to the US. I don't expect them all, but I expect more than this. Come on, where's A, V, Sakura, Cartoon Heroes, Daikenkai, Irresistablement, Destiny Lovers...? There's also not enough catas and ten footers for veteran players. It seems kind of newbie focused. Oh well. I guess I'm just jaded.

    Hero

I thought it would be understood that I was only talking about the mountain bit, because that is, after all, the end of the movie, and is also the only thing that could have been interpretted as abstract. Especially because dislike of the mountain bit isn't exactly an uncommon opinion for people to have, I'm assuming you knew exactly what I was talking about and were just being obnoxious, meh. It was a pretty final scene, but I prefer more satisfying, firm conclusions that aren't trying so hard to be artistic. I still loved CTHD and think it was probably a slightly better overall movie, but the very end just bugged me a little.

It wasn't at Best Buy or Circuit City yesterday. I guess I'll try to find it this weekend. I don't any version of 3S, so this is definitely a must buy for me.

    Hero

I absolutely loved this movie. It may have been the most beautiful movie I've ever seen in terms of cinematography. Every scene was just gorgeous. I loved the plot, too, even though it wasn't at all what I was expecting. I like moral ambiguity. It's nice to not have a typical black and white goodguy and badguy. The ending was great too, which is rare for this kind of movie. I loved CTHD also, but the ending there was entirely too abstract, to the point of being rather silly. I'd recommend seeing it in theaters just because you'll lose some of the epic feeling if you wait for the DVD. I don't think it would have been as impressive on a small screen.
  9. He still led the team in all major statistical categories in 94 and led them to the playoffs. You can't really expect a team to lose its best player and still win a championship the next season. Pippen's post-Chicago career wasn't great, but he was an excellent player in Chicago. Definitely agreed that John Paxson was seriously underrated, though.

    Top RPGs each system

Probably Chrono Trigger. It's the game that's closest to what you're used to, and it's easy to get into. If you started with FF4 or FF5, the transition would be a little rough.

    Top RPGs each system

I didn't say I particularly loved FF8, after all it's my 10th favorite RPG on PS1 out of 11 I've played, that's not very good. I just prefer it over Xenogears, which I found incredibly poorly made and frustrating. At least FF8 was straightforward. I'm also a hardcore Triple Triad mark, heh.

    The amazing comeback

I had been wanting to see that, thanks for the link. Unbelievable. That might be the most impressive thing I've ever seen done in a videogame.

    Top RPGs each system

PS1: 1. Suikoden 2 2. Final Fantasy 7 3. Vagrant Story 4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (It's always felt like an RPG to me, meh) 5. Suikoden 6. Final Fantasy Tactics 7. Wild Arms 8. Chrono Cross 9. Final Fantasy 9 10. Final Fantasy 8 I've only played 11 RPGs on PS1, shrug, so there's not much selectivity. Only Xenogears misses the list. I'd easily rather sit through FF8 again than the torture of Xeno's gameplay. Overall: 1. Final Fantasy 6 2. Chrono Trigger 3. Suikoden 2 4. Final Fantasy 7 5. Final Fantasy 10 6. Vagrant Story 7. Final Fantasy 1 (Origins Remake) 8. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night 9. Suikoden 10. Dragon Warrior 3

    Tekken 5 at Evolution!

Character unbalance is a problem even if it's the bosses that are overpowered. That's okay as long as you're playing the computer, but as soon as you start playing people, you want everyone to be as close to the same as possible. Designing bosses to be overstrong kills games. See SvC.

Justin Wong Wins MvC 2 At Evolution

I am, like, shocked, and stuff. I think running through winners and winning grand finals 3-0 last year was enough to prove that the exhibition loss was a fluke, heh. It was funny how big a deal people made of it then, though. Omg one loss in a match that doesn't count, it's the beginning of a new era~! Bleh, Rob and Mick sandbagged in the SC2 finals and split the pot, how incredibly lame.

    Tekken 5 at Evolution!

Nod, JFLS is never unavoidable on block and most people I've talked to say it's only his third best move, behind the parry and 2,1, in that order. 2,1 is +11 frames on hit and is only not an infinate to itself because of pushback, and the parry is almost totally safe, works on almost all mid/highs, gives free 2,4 and has a very long window so you don't even need to time it particularly well. Jin is strong, but he's still fairly easy to get around unless you're playing people that can do JFLS every time and parry well. Scrub Jin is worse than scrub Lee. I don't think he ruins T4, although he does make tourney vids pretty boring. Yay, another Jin/Jin finals at Evo this year, can't wait for the vids~!

    Tekken 5 at Evolution!

It's coming to arcades first. Our last real arcade closed last year, so we're going to be doing a lot of driving, heh. It's not going to be all that long between the arcade and the Japanese release, though, so if you have an import PS2 you'll probably be able to play it in spring 2005.

The best moves or plays in video games

Julia's ff1 is the greatest move of all time. Mitsu's mist cancel is also pretty sexy.

    Playstation 3 out in May

NFL2K is comparable to Madden 2001. SA1 was a huge disappointment, with more time spent on an incredibly boring but incredibly overlarge main map than actually spent in the real levels, and gameplay that was both too random and too easy. PS1 and HotD are just fluff, fine games at about the level of the DoA2:HCs, RR5s and Timesplitters of the PS2. DC's launch being the "best ever" is contingent on SC1 actually being ungodly, which it is not. It's easier and less strategically interesting at all levels of play than TTT (except for the button masher level, which apparently is as far as the mags got). Frankly, from a gameplay perspective, it's got very little over T3, and even SC2 isn't close to where TTT is. There's a reason TTT's been big on the tourney scene for over five years and counting, while SC1 faded out completely years ago.

    Favorite video gam store

I'd say EB, because the only stores in town that sell games are Best Buy, Walmart and EB, and EB is most likely to actually get the games in on launch day. I've taken too many trips to Walmart or Best Buy a couple days after launch only to hear that they still hadn't gotten the game in yet.

    Playstation 3 out in May

TTT made PS2 good at launch. TTT interested me more than everything on DC even though DC had been out for a year at the time. Buying TTT and a PS2 at launch and an Hori still saved me money over playing it at an arcade in the long run. Lots of people were also really looking forward to SSX, which was a damn good game at the time. PS2's launch lineup is probably one of the most underrated in gaming history. Everyone shat on it because they all were such DC supporters and all had this elitist "you all don't know what's good for you dammit!" attitude, but in reality it wasn't below average for a launch. It was better than DC's launch, or Saturn's, or PS1's, or N64's or frankly any other launch ever up to that point. The only way you could complain about it was to do what so many stupid journalists did, and compare it to DC's entire library. Guess what, no system is ever worth buying if you do that. Omg PS3's launch is worse than SNES's library, don't buy one! Yawn. PS2 being compatible with PS1 memory cards wouldn't have made any sense, since PS1 memory cards only hold 128 KB, which is about 1/50th of what PS2 cards hold. GTA3 saves require 500 KB by themselves, that would be four entire PS1 cards. Honestly, it didn't feel like Sony really did anything all that greedy in terms of the PS2 launch. You can even use old PS1 controllers to play PS2 games, they didn't have to let you do that. The only thing they really should have done that they didn't was to include four controller ports to start.

    Weekend Box Office

I'd guess about 40 million on Wednesday and probably about 160 million Wednesday through Sunday. I think the Wednesday opening will probably barely keep it from breaking the first movie's weekend record. I'd guess about 105 million over the weekend.

Babyvox - Devotion. Impulse bought it at a Korean market. Was hoping they'd have the new BoA CD, but they didn't, oh well.

Vanilla Ice - To The Extreme. I was eight at the time, and that album was *huge*, heh.

Albums that are widely disliked that you enjoy

I like Max Martin produced pop. So I like Baby One More Time, Oops I Did It Again, Millenium and No Strings Attached. They're not substantive or anything, but they're good, well-produced pop.
