    Street Fighter IV announced...

Omg this game is so good. I love it so much. It's so much better than SC4 even though I'm total gutter trash at it. I like Rufus so much I'm even trying to learn his real combos instead of just whining about how 2D execution is gay. c.LP, EX Messiah Kicks, FADC, Ultra is so sexy even though I can only do it in practice mode. But one day I will hit it in a real match and it will be awesome. Thoth, you have any advice for Rufus against Sagat? That match feels so hard, he can zone you with fireballs, if you try to jump in he can tiger uppercut or HK, even if you FADC the fireballs he's still in tiger knee range. There's like no range where Rufus feels like he has an advantage.

I was the worst GG player of all time. I didn't beat anyone, ever. I was so bad I wasn't even competitive enough to give you a chance to choke. But surely you haven't forgotten the legendary chokejob in the infamous Ride Home Match. You need to get a PS3 so we can play online, sir.

Is it possible to focus cancel parry multi-hit projectiles like most EX fireballs? I'm assuming not because I can't do it, but then I'm a scrub.

Yeah, good games yesterday Flamboyance. Your Akuma is really hard to get in against - you're good with the fireball zoning. Next time I'll probably just play straight Rufus, I feel bad defaulting back to a shoto, heh. Eric, my recollection of Guilty Gear is you being unable to handle the pressure and choking against a diverse selection of terrible players. Do you really want it be like that all over again?

Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with this game. Rufus is so much fun. And online is like almost lag free, that makes me so happy. And it makes me wonder what the hell Namco is doing, cause SC4 online was such shit. It's good to hear that Trial Mode is useful. I'll probably go through it tomorrow, because my fundamentals and execution are terrible and it sounds like a good place to start. Anyone playing online on the PS3? My ID is PSUJer if anyone wants to get any PS3 games in.

Yes, the intro got 10X better after changing the language to Japanese because you don't realize just how terrible the lyrics are. I'm liking it. Move inputs are much easier than in Super Turbo, so I'm slightly less horrible. Rufus is a lot of fun. I like the system, but it's weird, it almost feels like going back in time 15 years. All the options you used to have for dealing with fireballs are gone - you can't air block, roll or parry. Of course it's due to my scrubbiness, but I'm having trouble just dealing with fast fireball spam, especially against Sagat. I'm such trash.

    Chrono Trigger DS

Chrono Cross could also use a complete remaking from scratch since it was terrible. Gotta be like my biggest letdown game ever. I finished the DV over the weekend, and enjoyed it. The new final boss was cool. The new ending was a joke, but still, it was nice to have some new dungeons and a new boss. The Sanctum sucked, but at least you got good equipment from it. And I liked the arena, but I agree it was retarded that you had to start a new monster from scratch on New Game+, and waste time fighting battles to win awesome prizes like a Mid-Potion. Still, great port overall, especially compared to that garbage port in FFC. Loved the new translation.

http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Fighting-Stick-3...3548&sr=8-2 Heh, looks like Amazon themselves sold out since I bought one two weeks ago. I guess there's lots of demand for them now that SF4 is out...

Yeah, I've had nothing but good experiences with Hori sticks. I bought a Tekken 4 Hori back in 2002 and have put thousands of hours on it, and it still works well. The Fighting Sticks are a great deal, too, $50 for a seriously quality stick. Why people would pay more than that for a MadCatz peripheral confuses me as well.

Everyone else's excitement is getting me excited about this, even though it's a 2D fighter so I'm certain to be terrible at it. It's neat seeing the community getting hyped up, though. 2,000 people on SRK forums right now, wow. Evo this year is going to be totally hot. I think I'll try to play Rufus. Sounds like he plays like SF3 Yun, and Yun was fun. And I always <3 the big fat guys.

    Chrono Trigger DS

I'm going through the game for the second time now to get all the endings, and I just realized I missed the ending you have to get after Schala opens the door with her pendant but before you charge yours. Dammit. I think I missed that playing through the SNES version too. I hope the Dimensional Vortex is more fun than the Lost Sanctum...

    Tekken 6

Ugh, needing shotgun for juggles is terrible. That's going to make me have to find a new character. :( Lili sounds fun. Are the new BT moves good, and does she have other new transitions into BT besides d/f+2? Good to hear she has a new low poke, since I didn't like any of her lows except f,f+4. Hopefully that's still around? Is Bob fun to play? His look is so great, I was planning to use him just for that. Oh, and how much does everyone having 10 frame jabs change the feel of the game? That's probably what I was worried most about when I heard all the changes... Eric - I'm sure he has plenty of new 10-strings and multiparts for you to use!!!

    Tekken 6

Tekken inputs are too hard with a joystick. I tried, I really did. But after the thousandth time getting u/f+2 instead of Mad Axes, I gave up. 360's pad is complete ass. I wonder if there's a lag-free adapter to let you use PlayStation pads on a 360? What really sucks is that the expected release date is Fall 2009. Ugh. Two years between arcade release and home release? Totally weak.

    Defend a game nobody likes

Tekken 4 - It was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be. It did a solid job implementing enclosed stages, added a really deep wall game and added the concept of just frames. Yeah, Jin is broken, but that doesn't affect you unless you're playing tournaments. And you could always just not do JFLS. Suikoden 4 - It's not amazing, but it's not terrible either. The random enemy encounters weren't nearly as annoying as all the reviews said, since the battles were fast. Forgettable, yeah, but not a bad way to kill 40 hours.

Star Wars Episode 1 Pinball (Arcade, 1999) Terrible movie, amazing pinball game. The video screen and missions made it a ton more interesting than all the other pinball games where you just play for score. I was totally obsessed with it in college, and got good enough that it ended up being really economical. Play once, get three or four free games and that's like an hour play on a quarter. Hotness. All the arcades around here are closed now though, so I don't know if I'll ever get to play it again. I looked into buying a machine, but they're like $3,000 on eBay. That makes me sad.

Since it's been 12 hours since bps21 was on the clock... Tekken 6 (Arcade, 2008) Being stranded on a desert island would be a small price to pay for unlimited access to a Tekken 6 machine.

New Soul Calibur IV characters announced

Haha, that makes me feel like less of an idiot now. I went through and customized Cervantes, then tried to rename him, but "Edit Name" was greyed out, and it took me quite awhile to realize that to rename a character, you have to create a new one. And then it took me quite awhile to figure out how to create a new one. It's so stupid that you can't just rename your edits of the normal characters. I want my Cervantes to look like Cervantes, I don't want to have to try to make a new character look like Cervantes just so I can name him JerIsTrash.

Yeah, there are a lot of trash Kiliks online. It normally doesn't matter because they're all really bad, but it can be frustrating because the horrible strings like AAB or step AAA that you'd normally GI to close range, you can't GI because of the lag. I have never successfully GIed AAB online. I stopped trying. Almost all of his strings are disadvantage on block, though, so just block the whole string and then throw out a down A or BB. Anyway, I'm really liking Cervy in this game. I think I just needed a new character to make the game feel less stale. <3 his 1A.

Final Fantasy - Origins Remake (PS1, 2002) FF1 got me into RPGs, and I've spent more hours playing it than any other RPG. And while I'm nostalgic for ineffective attacks and 10 minute potion buying sessions, the remake for the Origins collection is a great improvement. And for the record, the best party, unquestionably, is Fighter, Fighter, Black Belt, Red Mage.

Wipeout XL (PS1, 1997) I need a racer, and I loved the Wipeout series on the PS1 back in the day. It's a shame the PS2 version was so awful.

New Soul Calibur IV characters announced

Got a chance to spend a few hours with it. What I like: - It's really pretty. The character designs are getting a little old, but the environments are beautiful. - The just-frame additions to normal moves are pretty cool. There's been some just-frames in SC since 2, but they're more part of the system now. If you do a normal move with better execution, your character flashes yellow and the properties are different. Like if you do Sophie's 236B really fast like an EWGF, or if you do Mitsu's K~B really fast. Neat. It gives something to practice in a game that's never really rewarded execution. And it seems like there's a lot of them. - Online isn't as horrible as people have been saying. It's like T5: DR - if you're geographically close to the other guy, it's okay. Just don't expect to block lows or GI with any regularity. - Critical finish is totally inoffensive. It's kind of neat occasionally without ever getting in the way. - Create-a-fighter is extensive, if you're into that kind of thing. What I don't like: - It feels like everyone's stuck in molasses. Seriously, it's like every move is 2 frames slower than before. Why they'd take the slowest major fighting series and make it slower, I have no idea. - Less advantage on hit, more disadvantage on block. Namco said they added critical finish to encourage rushdown, but if they want rushdown, why would they make most moves unsafe and make a lot of moves minus on hit? It's like impossible to rush down safely with anyone. - They made GI worse for no reason. You can't GI throws now? What? No one even used it in SC3, they should have made it better! - Characters didn't get enough new stuff. Like, I went through Sophie's movelist and only found two new moves I'd even consider using. For a true sequel, that's pretty damn weak. Overall it seems good, not great. If it ends up being balanced, at least it'll be better than SC3...

Culdcept Saga (X360, 2008) A board game combination of Magic and Monopoly that's pretty much the best thing ever. I bought a 360 just for this game, and it was worth every penny.
