New Soul Calibur IV characters announced

Some of those are moderately neat. I liked Yoshi's, it was cute. That video definitely reminded me why the first thing I do when I buy a new Soul game is change the voices to Japanese. Yikes, so bad.

1up's review is up and it reminds me again why I hate fighting game reviews. "Why doesn't Yoda calmly drop an X-wing on your head with his throw move?". Yeah.

Soul Calibur 2 (PS2, 2003) There may be better fighting games out there, but there haven't been any that I've had more fun playing. The community was awesome and traveling to tournaments was the most fun I've had as a gamer. It's too bad SC3 sucked and killed the community dead. All the console-specific characters were stupid, so I'll take the PS2 version because it has the best controllers.

Intro: It's terrible, sigh. So boring... Namco's intros have declined so much since the PS1 days.

Been more than 12 hours... Vagrant Story (PS1, 2000) Wonderful action RPG with a huge world with tons of ambiance, great characters and an almost MGS-style movie feel to the plot. The weapon customization system was amazing, with an unbelievable amount of depth and player control. It is an absolute travesty that this game never got a sequel.

    E3 2008

So it sounds like FF XIII will be released as a PS3 exclusive in Japan, and then ported/localized and released on both systems in America. Which means we won't see it for a *long* time. That is unfortunate. Pretty big announcement, but it would have hurt Sony a lot more if they lost exclusivity in Japan, because that's where FF really moves systems. I think the impact on the fragile hearts of the GameFAQs populace is going to be a lot bigger than the actual impact on console sales in the US.

Crash Bandicoot 2 (PS1, 1997) I need a platformer, and while the Crash series has gone to shit in recent years, it was great back in the day when Naughty Dog was still in charge. Crash 2 is my favorite of the series. It's nothing innovative, but it's just solid with well designed levels, and it's just plain fun.

Heh I hated Xenogears. Great plot, but worst gameplay ever. And you can't accelerate the text scroll speed. Seriously, come on. It was so frustrating because I wanted to keep playing to see the plot, but eventually I had to give up because I couldn't stomach the gameplay anymore. Great pick on MGS3. My favorite ending in all of videogames, by a mile. The only videogame ending that's left tears in my eyes.

Final Fantasy X (PS2, 2002) I'm surprised this lasted as long as it did. FFX is my favorite new Square RPG. It's the only recent FF that tells a good solid story from beginning to end. It's got really good combat, too, and the endgame arena monsters give tons of replay value. And Blitzball is awesome. I'd take Blitzball over the entirety of FF9, haha.

I'll be on vacation until Monday with limited access to a computer, so I'll message alfdogg my next couple picks, and after that, skip me.

Dance Dance Revolution: SuperNova (Arcade, 2006) My life would not be complete without DDR. SuperNova is the latest and greatest version, at least in the States. I have a nostalgic attachment to some of the earlier mixes, but SuperNova's the best game.

Waah I was hoping to get Galaga to go along with Ms. Pac-Man since the rules wouldn't let me draft Class of '81. Doh.

Pfft, Ms. Pac-Man is the pinnacle of manliness.

Ms. Pac-Man (Arcade, 1981) Because while the fighting games I'm waiting to play have changed over the years, the game I play while my quarter's in the queue has stayed the same. It's older than I am and yet it's still fun to play to this day.

Might as well finish off my run of new stuff... Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (PS3, 2007) The best game in the best fighting series. It took Tekken 5, which was already awesome, and added balance. And now, thanks to the power of the internet, you can play against lag-abusing ten-string scrubs all over the world!!!

Noooo I wanted Punchout. I thought it might last a round or two longer. Doh.

    Tekken 6

Haha. I was in Providence just last month for my brother's graduation. Warwick is only like 10 miles away. If only I'd known, I could have bailed on the graduation and gone to the arcade. I mean graduation is nice, but this is Tekken 6 we're talking about~!

    Tekken 6

Haha I did a little research on TZ, and here is the list of all the arcades known to have T6 in all of North America. ----------------- SoCal Super Arcade 1211 Grand Ave Walnut, CA Texas The Galleria TILT 5015 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77081 Planet Zero 12303 Westheimer Rd Houston, TX 77077 Rhode Island WARWICK MALL TILT 400 BALD HILL ROAD WARWICK RI 02886 Canada Lovegetty Station 505 Highway #7 East Commerce Gate Plaza Toronto, ON ----------------- Four machines total in the states. That's just sad, seriously.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3, 2008) When this thing started, I wanted to pick a Metal Gear Solid game, but didn't know which one to take. MGS1 had the best story, but the gameplay is totally outdated. MGS2 and MGS3 bring the gameplay, but the story's a little off. MGS4 solved this dilemma. It's got a story damn near on par with the original (except for a little silliness at the end, it'd probably be my favorite story of the series). And the gameplay's the best it's ever been, with the most expansive and active environments and a ridiculous gun customization system. I've only had it for a week and a half, but it's already my favorite game of the series.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008) It's not my favorite fighter by any means, but I've enjoyed it and it'd be a perfect fighter to be stranded with. It's got a ridiculous amount of stuff to unlock, so that'd kill a bunch of time. And the island would be a great way to learn to play Smash competitively, which I've always wanted to do but just never had the time.

    Tekken 6

Bump to see if anyone's played it yet. Anyone? Impressions? Somehow I doubt it, heh. It's amazing how much arcades have fallen off just between Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. I wouldn't even know where to go to find a machine anymore.

Heh, just make it one pick per number then. That's simplest.

    Video Game Desert Island draft

This is a good question which got lost in the shuffle. I'd limit it to one version of a number in the series, so if MGS2 was picked, you couldn't pick Substance and if Substance was picked, you couldn't pick MGS2. Maybe make that the rule with a Street Fighter 2 exception, heh, since the versions actually are pretty different.
