That's one hideous match, at any rate. And yeah, Dusty was/is the least over "big deal legend" with the live fans. Hopefully he gets a really good reaction tonight and they can make this match bearable. I guess Cena/Orton is being held off on, as beating an overweight senior citizen doesn't exactly scream "SummerSlam main eventer". -

Cena should dedicate a match later in the show to Larry King and then plug Raw. -

There better be some Londrick Vs. Barnyard Mafia build-up tonight. I also want Sandman to swing the cane. Let's nor forget Snitsky was set to debut at the McMahon Funeral, so I'm sure he'll squash Duggan or something tonight. "SNITSKY IS UNSTOPPABLE!" Yawn. -
"Because it was tried and trued.... they couldnt do something that was fresh and new?" I don't recall John Cena and Shawn Michaels ever having a one-on-one match before WM 23. You also got Taker's streak versus a World Champion for the first time ever (that the streak has been mentioned). And a very over babyface champion at that. First time, kayfabe wise, some fans rooted against Taker since 2002. Plus a MITB opener that grabbed casual PPV watchers and made commercial no-names like CM Punk, Finlay, and the returning to Mania glory Matt and Jeff Hardy shine. Khali/Kane, while a shitty match, wasn't about workrate or star ratings. It was WWE saying "Look here, fans. You want the biggest freaks in wrestling? You want to see some crazy tall assholes fighting? You're only gonna see the biggest guys HERE in WWE." And it was a short match, who cares?

"And the theme for this was that what can WWE do to make WM 24 Erase the memory of WM 23...." Hence my "retarded thread" comment. Aside from your e-fed booking of WM 23 which I'm sure would've been eons better, why would WWE want to erase the memory of a success? The only memory of WM 23 that will be erased was Chris Benoit's participation. Other than that, I don't get this thread. WM 23 suffered from a lack of action, but still easily felt like the most important wrestling show of the year. And it made a ton of money. You see, the wrestling business is about MAKING MONEY. Why would Vince derive from what worked so well and, as you put it, "erase that memory" and try for a new one? If WM 23 sucked as much as you claim, it wouldn't have made all it did. I think your expectations are a tad bit unreasonable and not indicitive of a true wrestling promoter. Study up.

For those voting for The Punisher, he got his ass handed to him by an eight year-old girl in last month's Runaways. From...a punch to the gut. -

WWE General Discussion for July 2007
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
"There's no reason why someone Rey's size couldn't be a believable headliner." With all due respect to Mysterio's legacy, there were teenage fans in the crowd who could, in a legitimate fight, kick his ass. Thus, I don't see how he came off as anything more than a comical, ending sooner than later title reign. -
WWE General Discussion for July 2007

"Except the 'old geezers' based their belief on the fact the Eddie and company were 'too small', which had nothing to do with why those three, at least, didn't 'make it'." They were too small. They all took steroids. Their bodies/minds couldn't deal with the 'roids. Small guys don't make it. Benoit, Eddie, and Rey were too small. They tried to get bigger, they did, and their bodies couldn't handle it. So I'd say it was ALL about size. Give Masters and co. all the shit you want, but Eddie and Rey easily used a ton more juice than he did in their careers. Look at Eddie from '94 to Eddie '04. It's sick. And Rey went from looking like your little nephew to looking like a short jacked-up boxer. -
What a stupid-ass, retarded thread. This thread is like saying "How will the Spurs rebound from their NBA Title win?" Seriously, WM 23, regardless of what the thread starter's opinion of its quality was, was one of, if not THE, biggest financial successes in WWF/WWE history. How, in any way, would WWE need to "rebound" from it? I hate to be the latest in the soon-to-be-flamed and disgusted posters, but it's opinion threads like this, much less 100% factually inaccurate opinion threads like this, that really need to be thrown into "General Discussion" so they can be ignored after a couple posts and actual talk based on facts can occur.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

Remember in the mid-90's the year-long trend of Internet Fans was to complain (and rightfully, I suppose) because the athletic, quick, smaller guys like Benoit, Rey, and Eddie were being "held down"? Bigger wrestlers who had been main eventers contended that guys like Eddie, Benoit, and Rey couldn't make it on top. And the reaction was "WHAT? They're SO much better than old geezers like Hogan, Savage, etc." The old geezers wound up being right. -
How can this be accurate when Sunday, July 8th has like 7 hours of moviegoing left? It's only 3 PM. Monday's when the real numbers will be out. I hope Transformers make a zillion dollars. Best all-around action flick since T2.

Interesting. Lashley's now more popular than Cena with the live crowd. But Cena needs to remain champion, IMO. Lashley's "new unstoppable babyface" thing on Raw may only last so long and the cheers will become "he's good, but not #1". -
