They won't turn Lita heel. I see enough pimply nerds with Hardy & Lita merchandise at live events. They're still *gulp*...over.

Goldberg/Regal on Nitro. F'n NASTY.
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to iliketurtles's topic in General Wrestling
I remember actually digging Regal around WM X-Seven, and bitching to my friends about his decency and "unique style". We watched WM X-Seven, and I was obviously made a fool of. -
I've always been curious what the hell "Famouser" or "Fame-Ass-Er", depending on who's typing, means? Billy Gunn never did a "I'll make you famous" gimmick... Was there ever an explanation for the name of said move?

After the Four Horsemen reformed, check this out: From the January 25, 1999 Nitro: 7. Ric Flair, Chris Benoit, & Steve McMichael defeated WCW World Champion Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, & Scott Steiner via disqualification when Nash hit Flair with a 2 x 4 board, given to him by the interfering Eric Bischoff, who had earlier been forced by Flair to sell "foam fingers" in the crowd. Afterwards, the nWo held the Horsemen still as Bischoff prepared to shave Flair's head. The WCW locker room poured out and ran off the nWo before the hair cutting, however. Benoit actually worked with Hogan for a large portion of that match. No Malenko, tho...sorry.

Hey, to each his own tastes. I just popped in Starrcade 98...so I'll admit my bad taste at times.

***he had an awesome return at the Rumble*** Actually, the 2003 Royal Rumble is genuinely considered "awesome" until the Hoss Squad (Ape Train, Batista, Brock, Kane, Taker) started dominating and all entered at once. ***he a really cool match with Big Show where he beat him with a Dragon Sleeper*** The No Way Out 2003 was not good. It wasn't embarassing to watch or super-slow...but it wasn't a "good" match. It was still slow and muddled by big-guy power offense and rests. ***he had a really good match at WrestleMania XIX with Show and A-Train*** Eh, wasn't bad, I'll give you that. Decent. ***KICKED ASS at Vengeance with Cena*** Never seen it. ***had a kickass TV match with Angle for the strap and it got no respect from some.*** I saw this match and liked it. Still, Taker had wrestled HOW many times this year? And he is MAIN EVENTING SummerSlam. I disagree. Although, I think JBL/Taker could rock if the two "locker room leaders" just go all out, throw lots of stiff offense in, ELIMINATE THE REST HOLDS and tear each other apart. Doubtful this happens. "Workrate" Taker went out the door with the "Mixed Martial Arts Submission Experimenting" Taker of '03. SOR-RY.

It isn't porn. It's a ficitious CARTOON SEQUENCE used to tell a dramatic story.

Does he still have that Becky Bayless chick? -
Frank, the match in question may have been on Thunder (which they had pretty much little concern for, and NEEDED long matches for) against Bryan Adams and Horace, who they faced in that SAME WEEK after beating Riggs/Enos.

Whoa whoa....you can delete those OCTOBER 18th and PAST results...'cause that's all VINCE RUSSO and his awful, awful shit. I think I'll post some results of my own.

Back to the topic, WCW also put together a pretty good (and over) stable in "The Dead Pool" at this time, comprised of Vampiro (who actually gave a damn), Raven, and The ICP. Raven still got pops, Vamp could still work, and ICP, although un-deserving of wrestling matches, actually tried and cared and weren't awful. They got pretty good ovations and had a cool entrance. Jobbing them on TWO STRAIGHT PPVS in the SAME MATCH didn't help...nor did releasing Raven instantly. The six-mans against the Filthy Animals were very solid good openers to the Aug/Sept PPVs, despite your personal opinions on Vamp and ICP. WCW fucked themselves over. They made a Heel Sting LIKEABLE...killed the Deadpool push instantly...took Lenny and Lodi off TV after a big push...killed Sid's streak too quickly (the streak SUCKED, yes...but they were in the middle of it and just axed it to Goldberg)...not to mention the stupid rushed heel turn of the Revolution in order to get a heel/face Revo/Animals feud. Sigh.

BTW, about the "Benoit/Malenko wrestled Riggs/Enos in a 7-12 minute SQUASH comment"... 1) This was one of the LAST bouts in a WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT... The match went like this: Riggs worked on Malenko. Enos was taken down by tandem double-teaming from the Horsemen. Benoit got worked over for 2 minutes by the quick-tagging Enos/Riggs duo. Malenko got tagged in, but Enos quickly got the advantage with a knee. Riggs got several repeated two-counts on Dean, until Benoit got tagged in. They whipped Enos/Riggs into each other, and Benoit put the Crossface on Enos for the tapout. It lasted roughly 6 minutes, and wasn't a squash. Say what you want about the caliber of opponents, but for those that say "Hurricane Vs. AJ Styles from Metal was cool!", then why isn't THAT match a "squash", given that Hurricane' opponent technically wasn't known as thus, wasn't given a chance? Jeez, you got to see the Horsemen kick a teams ASS and advance in a tournament...how DARE, WCW! Riggs wasn't a SUB, anyway.
-
Not to sound repetitive, but... *** But WCW had 7-12 minute squash matches (Beniot/Malenko vs Enos/Riggs went 17 mins or something in early 99, out of the time frame*** Why mention it, then? We're talkin' fall '99, with the topic being "they were actually getting on track."

Looking for Ron Simmons WCW title win
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to DMann2003's topic in General Wrestling
The Ron Simmons match in questioned aired on Saturday Morning, Cawthon would be correct. I believe it aired on the "Power Hour". It was from Baltimore. Footage of the angle with Jake/Sting and Simmons, the lottery, and the title change was all shown. -
I love the Batista one. It's not even that great, it's just "different" and not trying to be intentionally funny like all the other shitty commercials try to be.

Goldberg/Regal on Nitro. F'n NASTY.
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to iliketurtles's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah that's really "cool" that Regal was insubordinate and made Goldberg look bad. Fuck Regal. He's never been worth a dime, can't draw, and contrasts his "style" (if you can it that) with nearly every great drawing talent in the business, that's why he's written off in anything important he's ever done. See: easy non-match squash on Raw last week. Just think, if say, Rick Martel or so had sandbagged The Ultimate Warrior back in 1988 and ruined his reputation, no one here could jizz themselves over Warrior/Hogan from WM 6 or Warrior/Savage from WM 7. Say what you will, but Goldberg was responsible for a shitload of business in the ENTIRE pro wrestling industry, despite his lack of actual wrestling knowledge. Personally, I feel Goldberg had better intensity and a better look than 95% of the talent working in the late 1990's. A shame he was typecast into his "no-selling monster" gimmick, as who knows just how good an actual "wrestler" he could've been. -
BTW, for the "Sting/Hogan autograph signing incident"... This opened up the September 27th, 1999 edition of NITRO. - Hulk came out of a limo to sign autographs to some young Hulkamanaiacs. - Sting, speaking like a child, asked for an autograph. - Sting attacked Hogan, kicking him repeatedly in the knee. Funny stuff.

FIRST OFF: The Demon and Vampiro didn't feud in fall 1999. That was in MID-2000. Do research before making an argument. Nash and Sid didn't feud in fall 1999. They were TEAMMATES. Do research on the topic at hand. Nash and Savage didn't feud in fall 1999, which is the time period being discussed. Do research on the topic at hand. If you wanna call Knobbs and Morrus being pushed, then so be it. They were simply jobbed out as the only "heel" team in the division, after beating Douglas & Malenko. Douglas didn't deserve SHIT, as he was fat and just AWFUL. Malenko didn't deserve to job at Fall Brawl, but he was rewarded with a #1 Contender's Match to the WORLD TITLE on Nitro right after. Your point? They had no heel teams. First Family, although not great, were better than some of WWF's efforts AT THE SAME TIME (Droz + Albert...Mideon and Viscera...). Not like they got a real push and won the belts. If you made a comp tape of other "great periods" in wrestling, let's see... WWF 2000 early...Oh yes...Great segments with Rock, Foley, HHH, Benoit, Jericho, Angle, Hardyz, E + C etc....but you'd still get Mark Henry, Viscera, etc. who were all featured on television, ala the "Van Hammers and Bagwells" you mention. Bagwell wasn't even "awful" during that time period. Just not super-entertaining. he was trying, as he was promised a main event push. It floundered. NWA 1989...Flair, Steamboat, Sting, Lex, Muta, Rick + Scott, Pillman, Midnights....but look at some of the other midcard/lower tier talent that were featured on "BIG TIME" shows and even PPVs... I was mentioning the top-tier angles...not the TV Title matches between Steiner/Hammer and Boxing matches between Bagwell and Piper. NOTHING is perfect...and for WCW, even "decency" was miraculous.

Serious Moments You Found Funny
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in General Wrestling
I've got the best one...if you can remember/imagine this. Remember when Sid destroyed his leg at WCW Sin 2001? AWFUL moment. And NO, I don't find that funny. What I DO find funny is this... In March 2001, WCW led up to a Scott Steiner Vs. DDP main event at WCW Greed. Scott Steiner attacked Page on a television program, after the main event, with a lead pipe. WCW Security intervened and broke it up. Situation resolved...right? Wrong. In an effort to create the "serious situation" of Steiner being a "killer"...and capitalize on Sid's inujury, WCW put a security PLANT in the ring, who tried to stop Scott's attack. Steiner used his lead pipe and HIT THE SECURITY GUARD IN THE LEG. Ouch, right? And then, the security guard, who had a FAKE GIMMICK LEG, had an empty pant leg "dangle" as if Scott had just hit it and SEVERED IT FROM THE LIMB. I can't make this up. Tony Schiavone went beserk, acting as if we, the fans, should all say our prayers and pray to God that Steiner doesn't ever hurt us that way. How DARE you, Scott Steiner, make that man's LEG FALL OFF. And it was HILARIOUS. -
I agree with you. Austin/Angle did own Austin/Rock. And SS was the better PPV. Still, why even have this silly thread when it hasn't been discussed? Haven't we learned from previous pre-mature DVD talk?

Please help with Virus/Pop-Up/Adware...
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in Technology
Well, if anything breaks on my PC, it's insured, and BB will replace it. May not be worth the cash, I guess, but the parents insisted, since they bought the thing anyway, so don't laugh at me. Plus, I do a lot of travelling, moving, and drunk shit on my computer, so the chances of something breaking could be high. -
Greatest Triple Threat Matches of All Time
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to a topic in General Wrestling
WM X7 is the best of the three, IMO. An easy ***** and blows away most of what has taken place after it. -
The Relay is basically WAR GAMES, minus one ring, minus a cage, and minus one partner. And with tags. There you go. Eddie is fighting Angle because Angle wants revenge for losing to Eddie at WM 20 and Eddie wants revenge for Angle screwing him out of the WWE Title in a cage match against JBL. There you go.
