Don't believe 411mania about this supposed tournament...they've also got Sting debuting on Raw soon.

Each year we take turns giving each other birthday "punches".

Who is sick of Babyface Victoria?
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in The WWE Folder
They got rid of Stevie because he is not over, failed to become a face, and would harm Victoria's change into the top babyface woman on Raw around WM 20. That's about it. Good move, I say. Stevie, tho a funny guy and all, just isn't interesting to a mass audience in the ring. -
Jericho and I share a birthday.

So I picked up a few WCW pay-per-view events from 1999 that I thought my friends might like to look at. We just stayed in tonight, drank a lot of beer and checked out some "classic" (or infamous...?) shows. A "new" marks perspective... *WCW Mayhem '99 -Jarrett/Benoit was well received. They enjoyed it, tremendously. -Karagias/Disco, WAY too long and HATED. -Smiley/Knobs was decently-received, Norman was found funny. Brawing in the back was kind of boring. -Revolution/Filthy Animals elim. match - Popped for Eddie G's work and Torrie's body. Slower match than expected. Anticlimatic ending. -Hennig/Bagwell - Fast forward. -Sting/Bret - Enjoyed it, knew Bret was winning, so-so. -Berlyn/Vampiro - Fast forward. -Package/Meng - Fast forward. -Hall/Booker - Bathroom / Fast forward. -David Flair / Kimberly. Thought Flair looked ridiculous/out of place, Kim's hot, yawn. -Sid/Goldberg - They hate Goldberg. They hate Sid. Didn't care. -Bret/Benoit - Too many run-ins. Decent...nothing too good. Pretty much, Match of the Night went to Jarrett and Benoit. *WCW Spring Stampede 2000 -They dug the overall concept of "Young Vs. Old". Too bad the "Old" wrestlers were the faces and suck. Or did they? We'll see. -Flair & Lex over Mamalukes & Harris Boys. Didn't care. Why's Flair dressed like a golfer? -Mancow over Hart. One of wannabe Stern's "girls" tripped on way to ring. Who is "Hale"? Kidman sucks. -Sting over Booker. GOOD MATCH. Woke us up. -Steiner over Wall. Zzzz..... -Awesome over Bigelow/Cat. They liked Awesome. Predicted he would win the U.S. Title. -Vampiro over Kidman. Zzz....Hogan pops crowd. -Sting over Vampiro. Sting no-dols Vampiro's crappy shots and delivered a crappy match. -Steiner over Awesome. Didn't suck. Pretty short. -Funk Vs. Smiley - Eh...fast forward. -Candido wins 6-way. I hyped Tammy Sytch's awful appearence. However...she looked GOOD. Memory must be jaded. She didn't SPEAK, however, which may have saved her appeal. -Buff and Shane over Flair and Lex. No one cares. -US Title Finals...Everyone is sleeping. -DDP and Jarrett. I fell asleep, too. Just some random thoughts on a couple crappy WCW shows viewed for the first time by "WCW newbies" on my advice of "Get Drunk, You'll Need It." Still, gotta love both HAVOC and STAMPEDE, the two respective "relaunch!" PPVs of Russo and CRASH~! TV. Or not...

1999 & 2000 WCW PPVs watched by newbies...
UseTheSledgehammerUh replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah, I have that already. Although they've watched Blitz/Juvy and the Horsemen/Flock on my computer already. I thought Kidman/Rey sucked and the main event was iffy. -
This might be different, but I LOVED the "1....2.....Oooohh!" counts when someone had a nearfall. The ECW crowd really brought something to epic matches. See Raven V. Dreamer in '97, The "Final Battle" before Raven went to WCW. They count along with all the nearfalls/finish at the end.

I found it silly that Eaton & Anderson, a dominant team who held singles titles and multiple tag belts would need Michael Hayes, a shitty wrestler in one of the worst tag teams ever who had the tag straps for about 5 minutes to "help them" beat Williams & Gordy. Not to mention, when Hayes' team finally started getting momentum, Gordy & Williams dropped the tag straps to Windham & Rhodes, thus making the services of Hayes pointless. Watts realized this, I suppose. What did he do? Jobbed Anderson & Eaton to Erik Watts clean at the Clash.
-
Watts is an idiot. "When Watts was in charge WCW was at its best ringwise". Perhaps. But it's not like he was responsible. Sting, Windham, Anderson, Pillman, Steamboat, Rude, Austin, and the usual were already there. As for Liger, WCW used him much better (albeit only briefly, damnit!) during late 1991 and early 1992, at house shows, too. Putting the WCW Light Heavyweight Title on Flamingo and a HEATLESS Brad Armstrong? Dumb. No top-rop maneuvers? Huh? Pointless and heatless Heel Vs. Heel tag matches? The Barbarian. Nuff said. Erik Watts. Beach Blast's 30-minute main event time limit draw. Sometimes I think Watts was in love with Williams & Gordy and attempted to win their affections by booking every show around them. I'm sure the signing of Scorpio was due to Vader. Ron Simmons: World Champion Michael Hayes: Manager of Eaton & Anderson. There's hundreds of ridiculous Watts ideas to make fun of.

I find it HILARIOUS that people are saying things to the tune of "giving him a chance" and "never really disliked him" and "he's not bad"... IT'S FUCKING X-PAC. Remember, "X-Pac suck? X-Pac sucks?" "Boring..." "OH MAH GAWD King! That's...that's X-Pac! He's joined the nWo!" "oh no X-Pac stole Kane's girlfriend, Tori!" "Yo you dealin' with the X-Factor!" Let's not forget his little run-in to win the X-Divison Title in TNA. I advise this thread to be washed, burned, and closed before any WWE officials see it, and see any remote interest in bringing Sean Waltman back to television.

Haha, "Roses" does have some strange chorus lines/lyrics. Maybe weird, but I dunno about "awful".

Club Dread, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. And I've seen a lot of 'em.

When La Resistance win the tag titles this week on Raw, this "great tag team period" will end.
-
Watts is brilliant...job Cactus to Simmons...then bring in BUTCH REED as the partner to THE BARBARIAN. "The fans will be scared because Reed will tell Barbarian all the SECRETS of how to beat Simmons! Well, I'll be, Halloween Havoc in October? BARBARIAN Vs. RON SIMMONS! Wait, how can I get Doc and Gordy in the match? They have to be in all the matches!"
-
Stop bashing the song, it's great. Then again, I'm a "frat boy" so I dunno.
-
I'm not getting too excited about this. 20 hours a week, it claims. "With a majority" being WWF footage from the 70's to today. I seriously doubt you will "save from having to buy a DVD". I'm guessing we'll get a bunch of RAW/Smackdown! episodes from the previous month. One old PPV (which could be cool, depending if they want to push the Attitude crap (with a blurry logo, tho?) or the old-school WWE... Old Coliseum's on Hulk, Macho, etc. It's not "the wrestling channel"...
-
This is JUST RIGHT AROUND Bill Watts time... I don't smell his touch on this card, tho, since the Cruiser title wasn't held by a joke, there weren't 40-minute DQ-matches, and Cactus actually wins.
-
Godspeed. You can have 1990, JHawk...I'm not particularly fond of that year, anyway. Good luck!
-
Kinda boring. But kinda different. I like hearing "stories", even if they're not all "laughers". Jamal gets on Leno. WM 21~! Let the HYPE BEGIN.
-
Good report. I think you rated the Evo. Vs. Shelton/Jericho tag match a tad too highly, as it was very slow at parts, the commercial hurt it, the number of "Walls" attempts was a little silly, we had a Trish "music-in", and such. Very good effort by Orton in the match, and Jericho and Shelton were ON. Batista, who had been looking pretty sharp lately, was kinda off his game. About ** 1/2 from me. (Commercial Break Scale)

Hogan fought Big Show in WWE? Wow, I was just sitting around wondering why they never went at it when Hulk came back. Cool! Sure it was on shitty Smackdown! during the Early Summer, tho, right?
