I'm a King fan, but with all due respect, King won't get the love Tolkien gets after he dies because frankly the Dark Tower series is not now nor will it ever better than LOTR, or Tolkien's work in total. If you're a huge Dark Tower fan, though, be careful in your critique of Tolkien's masterpiece - it's Kings greatest inspiration for Dark Tower. At least HE seems to think there's something special about the adventures of Frodo. Herbert doesn't trump Tolkien either. Herbert actually gives me a headache......or maybe that's just from the original Dune movie......

There's one law professor at my school who has a rule about it: if your phone so much as rings in class, the first time is just a warning. Second time, you're excused for the day. If it happens a third time? Automatic F for your grade.

I think the show's pretty decent. A vast improvement, in just about every way possible, over the original.

NOBODY owns Tolkien. Nobody. Especially not King. I've defended King before, against assertions that he's overrated. I think the Dark Tower series is something that will ultimately put him down in the annals of literary history as the milestone of his career, but even so, he doesn't touch Tolkien. No one does.

I might have to disagree about the pit bull comments made above. I studied a few law cases in an internship this summer dealing with dog mauling. Pit bulls - those NOT bred for fighting - were the most frequent perpetrators. You can argue it's training rather than the breed itself, but frankly, that's one breed of dog I wouldn't mind seeing fade out of existence.

From a biological standpoint, it doesn't make sense for them to run fast, but it does add more suspense. I mean, take the zombies in the original NOTLD. How fucking easy was it to just outrun them? The only time they were even that dangerous was when they were in large numbers or had someone cornered. BTW, I'm very pleased to see some of you are fans of the 1990 (91?) remake of NOTLD with Tony Todd and Pat Tallman. A lot of people I know find it inferior to the original, but I think that, in its own way, it's quite good and deserving of a little love.

Only beings which can fully understand their surroundings and complex concepts can be "evil." In other words, the only animal that can be evil is the human. Cats, like other animals, are a product of their enviroment. To say they are inherently evil is just illogical. Cats are right bastards. Give me a dog any day of the week. I prefer the Japanese version. For what it's worth, yes, that's the one I saw first. Although I did like the inclusion of the horses in the remake. And Naomi Watts is smoking.

Maybe I'm just a Stevie mark, but I've always thought that if allowed to develop his character, Stevie has enough charisma to become a solid midcard talent, rather than the lower-card JTTS he is now.

Also, it isn't really feasible for Vince to do any major talent raiding anyway.

I don't hate them. I dig a couple of their songs. The rest I can take or leave, but I don't find anything truly offensive about their music or the band itself that would make me hate or even dislike them. I do have two major criticisms about them, though: 1.) They're ridiculously overplayed, at least on radio. This isn't so much their fault, but still, I can quite easily grow to hate a LP song that I otherwise halfway enjoy if I have to hear it 4 times an hour.....every hour.....on my local rock station. 2.) I can't see any growth in their second album. I won't necessarily say that "all of their songs sound alike" (although I think it's somewhat true), but their second album seemed largely to just be more of the same from the first, with no real progression. Or at least, that's my impression. Maybe if you're a die-hard LP fan, that's all you want or need, but for a guy like me, who's lukewarm about them as is, it's not winning me over. EDIT: Good Charlotte deserves to be drug out into the street and beaten savagely. I'll provide the sack of doorknobs.

But the kid's 4 years old. Even if he did it deliberately, he's far too young to truly understand the implications of his act. And what right did this woman have to lay a finger on him, let alone assault him the way she did, whether he deliberately did this or not?

Well, someone above listed some actual figures to consider. If he were to make $2,000 an indy appearance (a figure I'm sure he could ask for and receive), and make that much each week with TNA, that's $4,000 a week if he works the TNA taping as well as, say, one indy date a weekend. Factor in possibly a few Japanese dates a year, and he could potentially make a very respectable living outside of the WWE - without the more stressful schedule or unpleasant atmosphere. This belief that someone can't make a living outside of the WWE is a myth. For someone like Paul London, perhaps there's some truth to that, but to guys like RVD or Raven with some positive name recognition? They can definitely get by.

BPS21 has been wonderfully on-point, and accurate - RVD could likely make as much as he does in the WWE by working less dates in the indies and Japan. Thrown in a modest deal in the TNA, which would likely provide a better environment for him to work in, and he could be persuaded to leave when his contract expires. As for the whole Goldberg vs. RVD debate.....c'mon. If booked half-way decently, within a month RVD would eclipse Goldberg's drawing power easily. It's arguable that his popularity is already greater than that of Goldie's.

Exactly. If you were a guy like Kanyon, who pretty much never makes it past Velocity while the McMahons are prominently displayed on BOTH major wrestling shows, wouldn't you start inquiring about other opportunities for yourself? It's simple pragmatism.

Um, no. In fact, Bush was rather harshly criticized a month or so back when he did go before the U.N., because he asked for assistance while steadfastedly (and correctly) refusing to apologize for anything the U.S. has done over the past few months. This isn't the U.N. bailing the U.S. out. This is the U.N. realizing that they must capitulate to some extent to the U.S. - not the other way around.
