    OAO TNA thread for 9/1/04

-Hudson interviewed Styles and Killings. Styles said every time Kash opens his mouth, it reveals how bitter and jealous he is. He said when he's done with Kash, it's time for Petey Williams's X Title reign to end. Killings said two years ago he named the TNA Asylum. He said he knows what it takes to beat Jeff Jarrett. He said Jeff Hardy has what it takes and next week Hardy will become the new NWA World Hvt. Champion. I think he threw the word "tag" in there, but the point was made. 6 -- A.J. STYLES & RON "THE TRUTH" KILLINGS vs. KID KASH & DALLAS - Street Fight The first three minutes were high energy with brawling and dives at ringside. Kash and Dallas took control on Killings inside the ring as Styles attempted to crawl back into the ring. Styles re-entered at 3:45, but Dallas forearmed Styles from ringside as soon as Styles showed signs of life. At 8:00 Killings and Dallas hit each other with simultaneous chairshots to the ribs. All four brawled in the crowd again. There was a real sense of chaos to the action as fans scrambled and security tried to keep fans and wrestlers apart. Styles kept fall onto his head during the match in creative ways, including falling into the ringside area over the ring barrier out of nowhere as Killings and Kash brawled in front of him. Kash got so distracted with trash-talking with fans at ringside that Styles made a comeback at 11:30. They returned to the ring at 12:45 where Styles and Killings doubled on Kash. Killings and Styles then turned to Dallas and eventually Killings pinned him. Afterward, Roode and Williams attacked Styles, giving Kash a chance to give him a huracanrana off the top rope onto a table at ringside. James and Konnan made the save. Jeff Hardy then ran to the ring and made the save with a chair. Jarrett clipped Hardy from behind, taking out his left leg. When he went for the figure-four, Hardy countered it. The point of it was to show that Hardy did have an answer to the figure-four. The problem is Hardy screwed up the attempt at a sharpshooter/crab type hold. That should not confuse him considering he came to Nashville and that was the only thing he had to do. WINNERS: Styles & Killings at 13:42. STAR RATING: **1/2 -- No complaints, but not a "must see" match either. If you're into chaotic brawling through the crowd this was a satisfying main event. Having yet another "what was Jeff Hardy even doing at the arena in the first place" run-in at the end of the show was about as flat a final push as TNA could have come up with short of no appearance by Hardy at all.

    Most Improved Wrestler this year...

I saw some stuff earlier in the year with Austin Aries where he looked pretty good, but his stuff in Ring of Honor has been absolutely fantastic, and he looks to be one of the best workers on the independent scene right now.

    OAO TNA thread for 9/1/04

4 -- B.G. JAMES & KONNAN & MIDNIGHT RIDER vs. ERIC WILLIAMS & JOHNNY DEVINE & BOBBY ROODE (w/Scott D'Amore) Tenay said it looks a lot like Dusty Rhodes. Hey, at least he didn't have to pretend that he didn't know who it is like WWE announcers have to do when Stevie Richards shows up in drag. West played dumb, but sarcastically, saying that this masked man looks five pounds lighter than Dusty. D'Amore screamed, "That's Dusty Rhodes!" They showed Vince Russo in the back burying his head in his arms in frustration, after having complimented Dusty earlier for respecting his suspension and staying away from the arena this week. Tenay said the Rider might actually be "Playboy" Buddy Rose. Boy, if there was a list of all wrestlers whose names I expected to hear on this show, Rose's would have been near the bottom, perhaps last on the list. It ended with Rider pinning Devine. WINNER: James & Konnan & Rider at 6:18. STAR RATING: * -Hudson interviewed Goldy Locks backstage. She told Abyss that he has been her favorite from the beginning. She said they go way back and she's sure he's going to go out there and "make mamma proud." She said Alex Shelley never meant anything to him. She smiled. Abyss's body language suggested skepticism. Shelley said if he screws up, Abyss will have to answer to him. 5 -- ERIK WATTS & SONNY SIAKI vs. ABYSS & ALEX SHELLEY (w/Goldy Locks) If Goldy's team loses, she loses Shark Boy and D-Ray 3000 as her slaves. At 5:00, Goldy was going to interfere with a spray can. When Desire entered the ring, Goldy sprayed her. Then Georgie Watts, Erik's wife, charged into the ring and attacked Goldy. Siaki then rolled up Shelley from behind for the win. Tenay declared that D-Ray and Shark Boy are free. WINNERS: Siaki & Watts at 5:38. STAR RATING: *1/4 -- Siaki was working at a higher intensity and speed than usual. Okay action overall. -Hudson interviewed Monty Brown. Good stuff from Brown who stayed in character but focused on his desire to face Jeff Jarrett for the title. -Tenay and West got in their weekly plug at ringside. Then Dusty Rhodes showed up at ringside. He said he had a ticket. Russo came out and asked Dusty what he expected him to do since he continues to defy him even though he has treated Dusty with respect and said he has a job for life. Dusty said he wanted a match against D'Amore. Russo said 3 Live Kru and Team Canada would be barred from ringside. Russo appointed himself special referee. He asked Dusty if he would be willing to walk away from TNA and let him do his job if he were to lose. He said if he agreed to that, he would give him the match. That bug-eyed fan who's in the front row each week tried to steal the show with his insane facial expressions. -Hudson interviewed Styles and Killings. Styles said every time Kash opens his mouth, it reveals how bitter and jealous he is.

If I wanted to get into ROH

Yeah, this is a pretty good list.. I wasn't a big fan of MSE, but everyone else seems to love it. A lot of people like Road to the Title, to, which is like the 4th ROH show ever.

If I wanted to get into ROH

You can actually get a best of Samoa Joe DVD on ROHwrestling.com that has all his really good matches. But some of the best have been his match against Christopher Daniels at GBH2, his cage match against Jay Briscoe at At Our Best, his title match with Homicide at Generation Next, his match at Death Before Dishonor against Paul London, and I'm sure there are several more.
  7. Credit: Wrestlingobserver.com On April 9th, 2004 TNA pulled its signed wrestlers from Ring Of Honor, because Cary Silkin would not sign a document that would make him "personally liable" if Rob Feinstein was really still with the company. The TNA story was that they felt a relationship with a company owned by Feinstein would hurt their business. Doug Gentry signed, Silkin didn't, so the TNA stars were pulled. Fast forward to late June, Cary Silkin buys Rob's portion of Ring Of Honor, and severs all ties with RF Video. Everyone started to think about the potential returns of AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels to Ring Of Honor. Bill Behrens told Gabe Sapolsky it would be no problem once the split was finalized. Ring Of Honor sent all the paperwork to TNA, as requested, shortly after the split was finalized. Fast forward again to today, a week from a show in Boston, and 3 weeks out from Elizabeth: Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles are still not back in Ring Of Honor. Alex Shelley, despite being signed by TNA, can work Ring Of Honor. Chad Collyer can too. TNA has offered ROH other minor names too, but they will not allow AJ Styles, Chris Daniels, or anyone they percieve to be a big name to work ROH. This may or may not include Chris Sabin, not that Sapolsky wants him back anyway. Current word is that Red may be allowed back, since TNA doesn't see him as much of a star anymore. It looks as though the debate that raged in April has been settled. Those of us aware of TNA's long-standing paranoia about ROH believed this was all a fraud when it went down, and that this was just a great excuse to hurt a company they saw as a force taking away their thunder. They had earlier asked AJ Styles and Chris Daniels to split ways with ROH voluntarily, and both said no, so they came up with the contract. Shortly after TNA pulled its talent from Ring Of Honor, Jeff Jarrett had a long meeting with AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, where he promised they could return if Cary Silkin would sign that contract, and/or legally prove Feinstein was gone. Well, Rob is gone now for sure, and those guys aren't back. In the week leading up to the 7/17 Rexplex ROH show, Gabe put in multiple calls to TNA, but Jarrett returned none of them. It was around this time that everyone started realizing that maybe it wasn't going to be so easy after all. Chris Daniels cleared his schedule for ROH 8/7, and told people privately that he expected to return to ROH on that day. All the way up until that day, ROH tried to get him cleared to work their show, and TNA wouldn't do it. Bob Ryder said on his website in April that if ROH would ever sign that document in the future, all the TNA guys could come back. Does that deal still hold up? No, it doesn't, because the contract was a red herring all along. Their justification is that Gabe lied. Yes, you read that right. Because they think Gabe lied to them, they want him to admit he knew Feinstein was there all along, and was complicit in hiding his involvement. Reality is quite different, as Gabe/Cary were clearly moving towards a split with Feinstein after Gabe found out what was going on, and at worst told white lies to keep the company afloat while trying to remove Feinstein. If Gabe really knew all along, and was masterminding a grand conspiracy to allow Rob to continue profiting, why was he adamant about a complete split after the April emails where Rob said he was still involved? Are we really to believe that Gabe was complicit in protecting a man that forced him to cancel his wedding and almost killed ROH, even though they had been on bad terms for months? The story doesn't check out. To ban your workers from working for any wrestling promoter that has lied is completely absurd, given the fact that all wrestling promoters have told lies, big or small. The results and impact this has on the workers is even worse. Christopher Daniels now has nowhere to work on August 28th, because his H2 booking (which TNA signed him up for without asking him) was canceled, and TNA won't let him work the ROH show. When TNA was created, the whole idea was that they were offering 4 mid-week bookings on top of whatever you could do on the indies. Now workers like Daniels and Styles find themselves unable to work the indy that paid them best, all because of a one-sided dick waving contest. The new TNA standard for guys who can or can't work ROH really has nothing to do with starpower in TNA, either. Chris Daniels is part of a midcard tag team with an extremely green partner. He has been in one major program, and he had his legs cut out from under him. He is nothing more than a middle-of-the-show Impact guy. If Alex Shelley gets to work ROH, Chris Daniels should too, but it's really all about hurting ROH, where Daniels is a big star. On top of this, TNA continues to slash dates, and may even slash dates down to 3 per month. How sad is it that the supposed #2 in this country is so worried about an independent with no television? These people think they are going to compete with Vince? The workers that badly want to come back are powerless, and while it is certainly TNA's right to do what they're doing, they should come out and say what we all know is true: They jumped on the Feinstein situation because it was an opportunity to take the air out of Ring Of Honor, who they have been jealous of since day 1. It had nothing to do with a cable deal, public image, Silkin's signature, or any of that nonsense. ================ Interesting stuff...what do you guys think?

    Quick WWE survey

I thought this might be interesting... Answer each question true or false, except for #10. Feel free to add explanations to your answers if you'd like! 1) The WWE product is better now than it was one year ago. 2) The WWE product is better now than it was three years ago. 3) The WWE product is better now than it is five years ago. 4) I believe the in-ring product has improved in the last three years. 5) I believe the storylines/feuds/angles have improved in the last three years. 6) I wish WCW and ECW were still in existence. 7) The WWE will have no real competition in the next five years. 8) It was smart for the WWE to go to a "less is more" in ring style. 9) I believe the RAW brand is superior to Smackdown. 10) If I could convince Vince Macmahon to push one guy on either roster to the moon, it would be:

I remember a Smackdown where it's Edge's birthday and Christian gets him a kazoo. Edge: "Alright! Long live the 'zoo!" They then go in and bother HHH and Angle, if I remember, playing their them music (and Edge's too) on the kazoo. Edge and Christian singing to "Medal": "Angle! Angle! Angle! Angle!"

If I wanted to get into ROH

I'd go with recent stuff and get: ROH Reborn Stages 1 and 2 Generation Next World Title Classic Survival of the Fittest And then get the DVD of ROH Reborn: Completion (the 7/17 show) as soon as it comes out, which should be soon. This will give you a great intro into the current characters and angles in ROH, and all these shows are fantastic.
