IWA Mid-South Wrestling presented night two of the King of the Death Matches 2004 tournament on Saturday night, June 26th, at the Community Center Gym in Oolitic, Indiana. Here's what went down... 1. MsCHIF def. MICKIE KNUCKLES & DAIZEE HAZE in a women's division three-way. During the closing moments of the match, DELIRIOUS made his way to ringside, which took the referee's attention. As MsChif was about to give Mickie the Desecrator, Daizee hit the ropes to break it up, and got green mist to the eyes as she charged toward her. MsChif landed the Desecrator as the referee turned around to count the fall. MATT SYDAL rushed to ringside to check on Daizee, who was scheduled to be in his corner in the second match of the night stemming from Delirious ramming her into the ring post the previous night. Sydal rushed Daizee back to the locker room as several IWA staff attempted to wash the mist out of her eyes. 2. DELIRIOUS def. MATT SYDAL with the Chemical Imbalance II after just over fifteen minutes of action to win the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship. This match saw a much more intense Delirious, who went to work on Sydal's injured arm/wrist for the duration of the bout. 3. CHRIS HERO & "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE def. BJ WHITMER & RAY GORDY (w/ Jim Fannin) after a Cop Killa from Homicide on Gordy. 4. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS def. RYAN BOZ in an Unlucky Eleven Staple Gun Match where the winner was determined by which wrestler was able to staple six dollar bills to the body of his opponent. 5. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. IAN ROTTEN in a Ring Ropes Wrapped In Barbed Wire/Fluorescent Light Tube/Pool Of Rubbing Alcohol Match following a Boot Camp into the pool of alcohol, with light tubes and barbed wire covering it. Rotten was forced to swallow a mouthful of rubbing alcohol in the process of taking the maneuver. 6. TANK was scheduled to face MANSLAUGHTER in the next second round match, but MANSLAUGHTER did not make it to the ring for the match due to, very unprofessionally, walking out on the show earlier in the evening. IAN ROTTEN got on the microphone and explained to the fans what happened, and suggested that now no promoters will ever be able to count on Manslaughter, and he just cost himself any future in wrestling. Ian left it up to the fans as to whether Tank would get a bye into round three, or DERANGED would get a second chance in the tournament, in a rematch against Tank from the first round. The fans voted for the rematch, and got it. The match saw Tank defeat Deranged a second night in a row. 7. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN def. JC BAILEY with a Death Valley Driver onto Electrified Fluorescent Light Tubes. After Klein severely burned the face of Mad Man Pondo by stapling a highly flammable type of paper to his face and setting it on fire at KOTDM night one, Pondo was forced to pull out of the tournament, and was replaced by his first round opponent, JC Bailey, who would get a second chance in the tournament. Klein, who was by many counts the tournament's "MVP," proved to be too much for Bailey to overcome. 8. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match to advance to the finals of the tournament. 9. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN def. TANK in a Fans Bring the Weapons Match to advance to the finals of the tournament. Klein made Tank tap after wrapping barbed wire across his mouth. After the match (and strong showing in the tournament), Tank was given a "Please come back" chant from the IWA fans. 10. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN in the finals of the tournament, a 200+ Light Tube House of Pain Glass Death Match. The bout saw both men battle toward the back of the Oolitic Gym, toward a gigantic Light Tube Mansion (it was far from being one of the smaller "log cabins"), set up below a ledge along the back wall. Both men battled with chairs on the ledge until Klein was able to send Robinson from the ledge, crashing down onto the mansion. A cover which followed saw Robinson amazingly kick out, to the delight of the crowd on hand. The two made their way back toward the ring to conclude the match with a Boot Camp on a pile of tubes set up on the canvas in the center of the ring, which earned Corp his first King of the Death Matches crown in five years of active tournament competition. Robinson held onto the Cobra Clutch after landing the legsweep, as the referee checked Klein's arm, which dropped three times to signal Robinson's victory. The event was filmed with three cameras (including locker room interviews) for home video release by Smart Mark Video. Commentary was handled by Dave Prazak, Nate Webb, Mark Wolf, Chris Hero, and Matt Sydal. IWA will take the remainder of the summer months off from live events at the non air conditioned Community Center Gym in Oolitic. The next IWA events will be 7/23 in Lafayette, IN at the National Guard Armory (5220 East 200 South), and 7/31 in Highland, IN at the Linoln Center (235 Hoosier Avenue). Keep your eyes peeled to www.smartmarkvideo.com during the coming days for information on the videotape release of the tournament, as well as the 3+ hour Q&A session from Saturday afternoon. Questions for those of you who watch SD every week (I haven't watched since before JD!) 1) How the hell does a concrete crypt match work? And I thought Undertaker was working for Heyman? (I thought I read that he bowed down before him, since Heyman had the urn or something) 2) What are the feuds behind Mordecai/Holly, Reigns/Haas, Sable/Torrie, and Suzuki/Gunn? 3) Will this show get a lower buyrate than Judgment Day?
-
Smackdown needs to create some more babyfaces. I mean they have Mordecai, Suzuki, Luther, Jindrak, and others they are trying to get over as killer heels...but what fan cares about any babyface on the roster aside from Eddie, Cena, Guerrero, Taker, and RVD? Anyways I can't watch this show, but I'm not too bummed out. Cool they're giving away all that footage for the people who get the webcast though.
-
Why is there such a time gap between shows?
-
Well Muta and Kojima and all the other guys on FB2003 too.
-
Too bad Necro is out first round. He's one of the best deathmatch workers there is. Wouldn't have minded to see Klein/Necro later on. I have to go with Corp to win it all. He's been working for Ian forever, and hasn't won one of these yet. If not him, Klein.

DANNY DANIELS & BJ WHITMER def. MATT SYDAL & DELIRIOUS (w/ Daizee Haze) in the opening contest. During the closing moments of the match, Sydal accidentally hit Delirious with a leg lariat, which caused Delirious to refuse Sydal's subsequent attempt to tag out. Delirous lost control and wound up grabbing Daizee by the hair and ramming her head-first into the ring post. With Sydal's attention focused on Daizee, Whitmer and Daniels were able to take advantage and score the victory. 2. CM PUNK def. RAY GORDY in non-tournament action. 3. CHRIS HERO def. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON with a standing version of the Hangman's Clutch. 4. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS def. "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE in a Barbed Wire Boards Match when BJ WHITMER hit the ring and gave Homicide an exploder suplex through one of the barbed wire boards propped up in the corner. Hero attempted to hit the ring to make the save on Homicide, but was stopped on his way by RAY GORDY. Whitmer stated on the mic that he still has an issue with Homicide over breaking his nose at the 2003 KOTDM, and asked for a match on Saturday night against him. DAVE PRAZAK responded by pointing out that Hero and Gordy were involved in this situation as well. All four men agreed to battle on night two of KOTDM in a tag team bout-- Hero & Homicide vs. Whitmer & Gordy. 5. RYAN BOZ def. SMOKEY C in a Barbed Wire Boards Match with a northern lights suplex off the top rope through a barbed wire board set up between chairs. 6. MANSLAUGHTER def. TRIK DAVIS in a Thumbtack Death Match. 7. "Spyder" NATE WEBB in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match with a cross armed brainbuster. 9. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. DYSFUNCTION in a Two out of Three Log Cabins of Glass Match, with the deciding fall scored after a Boot Camp off the 2nd rope. 10. MAD MAN PONDO def. JC BAILEY in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match. After the fall, "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN hit the ring and stapled an extremely flammable paper to his head and set it on fire. 11. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN def. So Trik Davis, Ian Rotten, and Nate Webb were all added to the show? No Wifebeater, Chuck Hogan, or 2 Tuff Tony? And Necro going out in the first round has to be considered a surprise. Delirious turning on Sydal? Cool. A Whitmer/Homicide match coming up? Eh.

This show convinced me that 90 percent of what TNA does well has been done by sheer accident. I cannot fathom (and if there were stronger words I could come up with, I'd use them) how they looked at the booking of this show on paper and thought it was acceptable. Three major problems come to mind (along with a dozen smaller things). -Finishing both main events with inconclusive finishes is absolutely inexcusable. Wrestling bookers often forget that while their main goal is to keep storylines flowing and give them something to work with on future programs, their first goal should be to satisfy fans this time - and fans are looking for a satisfying conclusion for their ten bucks. TNA's booking of two non-finishes is like a fine restaurant serving half of the meal ordered, and then letting their diners know that while they don't get the rest of what they paid for, here's an advanced copy of tomorrow's specials and a discount coupon for their next visit. -The main event ending with the focus on Vince Russo instead of Ron Killings. Could less have been done to establish any semblance of a bond between the fans and Killings. Their top babyface challenger on their second anniversary show gets what? A promo to talk about his path to this title shot? A music video showing off why he is in a top position in the company and a major reason you should order TNA events? Nope. But there was time for a D-Lo Brown promo which shifted focus away from Killings and toward him regarding the World Title picture. There was time for three music videos that made no sense. And, worst of all, there was time once again for all of the World Title focus to be on Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo. I'll chip in for a personal trainer and some steroids for Russo if it'll get him in the ring so he and Jarrett can wrestle twenty straight weeks against each other until TNA has no customers left just so I don't have to see, once again, Russo steal the thunder of the babyface wrestler. Why does TNA management think continually pushing Russo, who shows nothing as a character to justify his push nor does he have any star power to make up for that, over actual babyface wrestlers is justifiable? -Having Scott D'Amore last 15 minutes with Jerry Lynn. D'Amore may be an underappreciated world class worker who was held back from a national contract because he didn't have "the look" that Vince McMahon forces down fans' throats. Okay, that may be. But a TNA PPV isn't the place for D'Amore to try to show the world how good of a worker he is if the match was set up as a chance for the babyface wrestler to kick the BUTT of the overweight, out of shape, loudmouth manager. Instead, without any over-the-top cheating or interference to explain Lynn's haplessness, we got D'Amore looking like he should be right next to Lynn in the top five rankings for X Title matches. D'Amore doesn't look the part. He doesn't act the part (he even played his physique for laughs before the bell rang). He is supposed to be a chickensh-- heel, so who conceived the notion that it was the least bit appropriate for him to last more than two minutes against Lynn in a fair-and-square match? At least they should have had Team Canada obliterate Lynn before the match backstage, but have Lynn vow that wouldn't stop him and despite his dislocated shoulder, concussion, broken fibula, and wide gaping hole straight through his abdomen, he was still willing to wrestle D'Amore because he wanted to kick his ass so badly. And then he still should have won quicker than he did in reality. Jeff Hardy was a nice surprise, but if he wasn't willing to do a job for Styles, or TNA management was too star-struck to ask him to, they shouldn't have bothered. Hardy, as the announcers pointed out, hadn't been wrestling recently. They talked about his ring-rust. He wasn't a World Title level wrestler in WWE. Styles is pushed as a World Title/X Title caliber wrestler in TNA. Styles should have been able to beat him clean in ten minutes Then Hardy should have grabbed the mic, said it was an honor to wrestle someone of Style's reputation and stature, and said he hopes to have a rematch some day when he has a few weeks to get himself into prime ring shape. There would be no shame for Hardy in that situation, and it would put Styles over as having a reputation for being a true world class wrestler. Instead, we got an even-steven match-up between Styles in his prime and Hardy straight out of mini-retirement with a run-in finish. This show was the biggest abomination in TNA of the year, and perhaps one of the worst four shows they've ever produced. Every match was under two stars except for the main event, which was just two stars. With all the talent in this promotion, that's what they come up with for their Second Anniversary Show. At least the went for symbolism. I've never had less faith in the brain trust of this promotion than I do now after what I saw last night. This tape should be saved for any college classes on Pro Wrestling Booking as a series of perfect examples of what not to do if you wish to stay in business.

First round pairings for IWA-MS KOTDM Tourney
JoeDirt replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
They just announced that non-tourney matches for night one will be CM Punk vs. Ray Gordy, Matt Sydal and Delirious vs. Danny Daniels and BJ Whitmer, and a rematch between Chris Hero and Arik Cannon. -
For anyone who has PWG DVD's, how is the video quality and production values and all that stuff? I may have to pick up a lot of shows very very soon since I haven't watched any of their shows before.
-
The show's tonight, so I figured I'd bump this. It's not the SSMC anymore, but it still should be a great show. Now if ROH could just get their out of ring stuff figured out...

This was from PWtorch.com if you didn't already know that from the title.

H2WRESTLING DEBUT EVENT THIS SATURDAY CANCELED AFTER VENUE PULLS OUT OF SHOW DUE TO HARASSING PHONE CALL by Mike Johnson @ 4:12:00 PM on 6/23/2004 H2Wrestling's debut event this weekend in Somerville, MA has been canceled, postponing the debut of the new promotion headed by Court Bauer and Teddy Hart until Saturday 7/31 at a new venue to be named. The promotion has also secured a venue, which it did not name, for Saturday 8/28 in Boston, MA. H2Wrestling learned late Monday afternoon that the Somerville Theatre had suddenly refused to allow them to hold a live wrestling event at the venue, forcing them to look for a new venue with less than a week's notice. H2Wrestling sources indicated that they believed another promoter "harassed" the building, which led to the cancellation. The venue did not return repeated phone calls and emails from PWInsider.com for comment. H2Wrestling sources also stated they are looking into legal remedies for the situation. The decision by the building caught H2 Management completely by surprise as building management had been in regular contact with H2 up until Monday afternoon. The promotion had just paid for local advertising in the market, which will still run as scheduled despite the cancellation. H2Wrestling had attempted to find an alternative venue in the Massachusetts area, but was unable to find one in the short timespan that would have been suitable for their purposes filming the event for International distribution. The promotion also looked at sites in Rhode Island. At one point, there was even talk of trying to relocate the event to the ECW Arena in Philadelphia at the last minute, but the costs involved with changing all the booked airline flights were too much for the promotion to absorb. They finally threw the towel in on Wednesday afternoon. The promotion had announced on 6/17 that they had moved the debut from Boston, MA at the Roxy to Somerville, MA after issues came up with the Roxy's management. H2Wrestling will be releasing an official statement later in regard to the situation. Any fans who need refund information should check out www.H2Wrestling.com. The promotion intends on making good with all fans who purchased tickets in advance and will be making an announcement about that shortly. H2Wrestling's Court Bauer noted that if there was more time, they could have worked out a solution, but they just didn't have enough leadtime to work things out. He also noted that there would be additional talent, including Homicide and Sabu, added to 7/31 as a "make good" to the fans.

Holy CRAP does this show look fantastic. Punk vs. Super Dragon should be really fun. Have they ever faced each other before? Daniels and Amdrag vs. Reyes and Joe? That should be nothing short of fantastic. Kazarian vs. Pearce in the cage should be solid. Looks like Frankie is going TNA full time. Styles vs. Romero is the sleeper match of the night probably.

First round pairings for IWA-MS KOTDM Tourney
JoeDirt replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
I'm not a huge deathmatch fan. Weird to see Cide and Boz in it, though. Hopefully the non-tourney matches really deliver. -
War of the Wire was originally scheduled to be in a middle school. I think they had to move it after parent complaints.

From 1995-2001, when did you like WCW's product the best and why? It doesn't have to be when they were winning the ratings war, or maybe it is...but when did you enjoy their shows the most?

IWA Mid-South 6/19/04: A Butcher Loose in Highland
JoeDirt replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Weird they decided to go with Jacobs vs. Steel instead of Jacobs vs. Delirious vs. Sabin. Guess they didn't have anyone to face Steel. -
This is from the great review of night one of IWA-MS KOTDM 2003: "The Messiah is the current CZW Heavyweight champion and a former XPW champion. He’s the person who had his thumb cut off when two thugs broke into his house, though no one knows who ordered the attack (RobBlackcoughRobBlack). Night 1 of KODM is actually the one year anniversary of the attack." Can someone please expand upon this story? I haven't heard about it before.

Other thoughts from SocalUncensored's board: "Very good show overall. Thoughts: -B-Boy got owned. Man, that match was brutal -Kahn/Williams was a very good match. Williams' shined here. -I marked out for Corino. The match was very old school with lots of entertainment. Man, Corino has surely got a gut now. -I was too late to buy a Hustle 3 program. -Opening match was very, very fun. -Man, the Lost/Ryan thing is surely on the road to being a kick ass feud. -Glad Jardi is back, he was very over. -I feel sorry for Knox :-( -I don't want to see Kazarian or Pearce go, but the cage match should rule ass. -Can't fuckin' wait until July 10th, I'm going to be luring my friend to come to this show." -
PWG Presents ''Rocktoberfest!!'' On June 19th&
JoeDirt replied to PsychoDriver's topic in General Wrestling
Quick results from SocalUncensored... As usual, I apologize if these are out of order. Disco/Bosh/Mercury/Topgun over Supa/Tornado/Phoenix Star/Lil Cholo Apollo Khan over Tommy Williams Aerial Express over Thomasellis Quance over Puma CM Punk over Steve Corino [subbing for Spanky who was in Japan] X-Foundation over Excalibur/Super Dragon despite Scott Lost turning on Joey Ryan... yes, Lost turning on Ryan. Joe over B-Boy in a hell of a match Frankie Kazarian wins a four way elimination match by DQ when Pearce clubs him with a chair... then hits special enforcer Vander Pyle with it as well. Jardi Frantz was the fourth in this one. Next show is announced as July 10th in Hollywood at the Los Feliz JCC. This is the 1st anniversary show and is stacked to the roof with the flyer featuring the usual PWG stars plus AJ Styles, Am Drag, Brad Bradley, Christopher Daniels, CM Punk, Colt Cabana, M-Dogg, and the return of both Pitbulls. Hell of a lineup, huh? Oh... and to add to it, the main event will be Adam Pearce defending the title against Frankie Kazarian... Loser Leaves PWG... ...inside a steel cage! ================================================== Gotta think Pearce beats Kazarian in a cage, sending Frankie off to TNA, right?
