I've never understood why these guys couldn't put on a **** match. This match is okayish, but wish a bad finish. -

Wow, thanks!!! We should really post more media here. I have no idea how to do it either. -
I wonder if when Vince fired him he brought in Ahmed Johnson to yell "YOU'RE GOING DOWN!"

Damn, I feel like the newbie here. I watched WWF casually in late 98 at a friends house, but didn't pay much attention to it. Then I remember going over to his house every Monday night and we'd watch wrestling in early 99. I remember rolling my eyes at first, but then I started to get into it. The Rock was so cool, Mankind was awesome, there was HHH and Austin. We'd watch some WCW too, and I liked that two rival shows were on the same night. The buildup for WM15 and the Austin/Rock match hooked me, and when I get hooked on something I get _hooked_ on something. I've gone from a total know-nothing mark in early 99 to having seen almost every WWF and WCW show there is (though I haven't seen a lot of the NWA) and becoming a smark. That's probably why I love the old school board so much, because there's so much little stuff I don't know much about.

I was just watching a tape of an old RAW from the night after King of the Ring 99. It's weird comparing that to today's RAW. Austin and Taker wrestled in the main event (Austin winning the title back) and had a 12 minute match with the only "wrestling" moves being 2 stunners by Austin, and a body slam and chinlock by Taker. The rest was clothesline, punch, kick, elbow, punch, kick, clothesline. And yet, the crowd is INSANELY into the match. Billy Gunn had won the King of the Ring the night before and interferes in a HHH/Rock match on this show, beating the Rock down. Big push coming up, right? Well, later in the show he loses to Bradshaw! Droz and Albert come out and try and pierce the tongue of one of the Godfather's ho's, but Edge makes the save, so he gets the ho's. Jarrett and X-Pac wrestle for the IC title in a 4 minute match that features the referee distracted about eight times. Debra distracts the ref, X-Pac hits Jarrett with a guitar, Billy Gunn and Chyna run in and hit X-Pac and roll Jarrett over for the pin. I know things were like this when Russo was in charge, but just comparing it to today is surreal. People complain a LOT about today's WWE...but would you rather have this? Maybe, maybe not. It's just interesting to look back and see how COMPLETELY different things were in this era.

I'd take Austin over Douglas.

It's all subjective. And I really think that a great show is about more than just the number of stars you give out, too...some shows are just more entertaining than others.
-
Yeah, I forgot to mention Summerslam 98. KOTR was pretty decent too.
-
All of Bret's matches were ***+ at KOTR, and Hogan JOBS! (That's why I love it ) Nothing horrible at all on it. Backlash 2000 is a good PPV, but one of the 5 best _ever_?
-
I like Wrestlemania IX.
-
I voted for SS90. SS95 is _NOT_ that bad a PPV. Diesel/Mabel sucks, yes, but anything with a near ***** is not the worst show ever. Throw in Hakushi/123, Bret/Kane, and HOROWITZ WINS~! and it's not the worst Summerslam ever, IMO. Summerslam 1990 has a good tag team match...and that's about it.
-
Yeah, these matches, the Vengeance match, and Raven/Benoit/DDP from WCW are my picks.
-
Agreed. I'm pissed UND lost today, but Denver just shut them down and their goalie played great. UMD/UMN vs. Maine in the finals is my pick.
-
Ludvig Borga = badass Finnish dork.
-
Not a fan of the older stuff, Choken? You gotta love Wrestlemania 10...or even 3. King of the Ring 93 rocks it, and Hogan jobs! Survivor Series 96 has two great matches and two very good matches.
-
King of the Ring 95 > everything
-
Frozen four so far: Maine (over Wisconsin in OT) Denver (over UND 1-0) Sunday's games: BC vs. Michigan Minnesota vs. Minnesota-Duluth

IWA-MS Lafayette Quickie Results
JoeDirt replied to Phoenix Fury Legdrop's topic in General Wrestling
Sounds like a great show - IWA-MS keeps putting on great shows. -
They just wanted to cut out some of the crap and put out a bit shorter version for a lower price. Get the full stuff at rfvideo.com - trust me, the shows are worth it.
-
...who were on a winning team at Survivor Series 87, as was JIM BRUZNELL...
-
Man, now you're just gonna get ripped on. That sucks.
-
So how was Velocity?
-
...who wrestled BULL NAKANO many times...
-
Maybe he's going to be a part of the roster soon?
-
I think he was an alkie.
