I believe they were getting a tryout at the time, weren't they? Vince was in his nostalgia kick at the time, and so they put them out there to see how they did. And they weren't brought back.

IWA-MS 4/8 and 4/9 lineups...Spring Heat and STB6
JoeDirt replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Taken from the IWA boards: "I didn't like the finish either (of Joe vs. Ian) but it was done to build towards a rematch where Ian will lose. Ian does not have a problem putting people over, he does it all the time to the point where it doesn't even mean anything anymore. All of that being said, Ian does seem to have some sort of chip on his shoulder when it comes to ROH. He always says stuff about ow they only come to town every three months & IWA is here all of the time. Tonight he told Joe to go back & tell his buddies in ROH that he's more than just a guy with a bunch of scars & that he can go hold for hold. I don't even know why he mentions them at all, it's not like there rivals or something. The show overall was decent, nothing great. I'd guess the crowd was around 175. The crowd was kinda dead though, except for the two drunk guys that are at every show being idiots. It's great to be into it but these guys are just being obnoxious. Quick results Storm d. Davis McClure d. Sitoci Sweeney d. Cabana Generico d. Jigsaw Good stuff Haze d. Mickie Joe & Ian DCOR Bradley & Boz retained Delirious retained pretty good Hero pinned Kingston to whin the six way. These was alright but it could've been so much better. Jacobs d. Punk when Jacobs gave Punk a senton off the top with the belt strapped on him while the ref was out. Hero came don after the match, Jacobs slapped him & ran away. Back in Midlo on May 6 with everyones favorite wrestler Billy Gunn." -
My favorite is still at this past year's IWA-MS King of the Deathmatch tournament, in a fans bring the weapons match when Madman Pondo takes a plastic He-Man toy castle, climbs to the top rope, and yells "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!" before jumping off and bashing JC Bailey in the head with it.

Has anyone here applied/wanted to work for WWE?
JoeDirt replied to JoeDirt's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah, if it wasn't for the crazy travel I'd give it a serious thought. If you're single and 20-something, it's not a bad option. It's not like you go into creative suddenly doing all this main event stuff. You just work on little stuff, like making promos better, coming up with things for lower card guys, etc. I think that would be way better than thinking up stuff for HHH anyways. -

Now, I've always wondered who those two were. Jim Ross is one of them by process of elimination, and considering he's put Bret over huge since the incident and he was the one to call Foley after it happened...Ross wasn't enjoying this experience. If Cornette was the one who planned out the spot, then my guess is Patterson is the other one. He always had a great relationship with Bret and he probably didn't want much to do with it. That's my guess. Yeah, I was thinking Cornette too. It has to be someone close to Meltzer for him not to reveal until after he dies. It's weird though, since I'm sure Bret knows Cornette was involved, so why would he care if Bret knew he was the one who came up with the sharpshooter spot? It's just shocking to me that Vince didn't go along with having the Montreal match end in a DQ like planned and have Bret lose the title soon after to somebody like Shamrock or Undertaker, who could then drop the title to HBK in the four way match at the DX PPV. You think that would be a lot easier option than screwing over Bret and taking the risk that he did. But luckily for Vince, doing it paid off. Another interesting thing to me is the fact that this clearly wasn't Bret's last WWF match, as Wrestling With Shadows makes you believe. Reading over Cawthon's site, you might want to change your description of the Survivor Series match: "WWF European Champion Shawn Michaels defeated WWF World Champion Bret Hart to win the title at 12:18 when referee Earl Hebner called for the bell as Michaels had Hart in his own version of the Sharpshooter, however there was no submission from Hart; the original ending for the bout called for the Hart Foundation to interfere, causing a disqualification and involving DX in a post-match brawl, however Vince McMahon had secretly planned this alternative ending since Bret was unwavering in his refusal to lose the heavyweight title in Canada to Michaels in his final match in the WWF; only the world title was on the line" Cawthon's site also has this interesting card: WWF @ Barrie, Ontario - Barrie Molson Centre - November 12, 1997 Henry & Phinneas Godwinn defeated the Headbangers Glenn Kulka defeated Miguel Perez Jr. The Rock defeated Ahmed Johnson Max Mini, Nova, & Mosaic defeated El Torito, Piratita Morgan, & Tarantula Ken Shamrock defeated Savio Vega Kama & D-Lo Brown defeated Crush & Chainz Kane defeated Vader WWF IC Champion Steve Austin & Dude Love defeated Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart Did Owen really do a house show right after Survivor Series, or is that a typo? And if he did...why?

Some interesting/funny stuff from Meltzer on the WC board: Original post: "What was the deal with Hogan burning the sheets at the opening of the first World War 3 pay per view in 1995? Who wrote it and what did it say that made him so mad?" Meltzer's reply: "Brian Pillman called me up from the show the moment after it happened and we couldn't stop laughing about it. He said how the dirtsheet said The Giant would win the Battle Royal and it wasn't going to happen. Two weeks earlier in the Observer, it said Giant would win because that was the plan. The problem was, when they changed it to Savage winning, we had that in the week of the show. He said Savage had been working the boys about a torn tricep and he was fine. The funny thing was one arm at the time was half the size of the other, and the injury was legit, but he was working on it. Pillman called saying Hogan & Sting (it was Hogan's idea but Sting was with him on it) had lost their mind because Savage was going to lose to an armbar on the arm half the size of the other and Hogan killed the match storyline of his selling the arm. Plus,he told everyone Show wasn't winning. He said, "Observe this" and through it in a fire."

I guess the main event doesn't always have to go on last, but still. --2002 has hardcore title changes at a house show, plus Undertaker beating Austin in the main event for the #1 contendership? --2003 has Kevin Nash returning to RAW, Rock vs. Jeff Hardy, and Scott Steiner beating down Christopher Nowinski in their lame "war debate" feud.

I remember seeing that live. Bezerker nailed Taker with his shield and then tried to plunge his sword into Taker while he was still on the mat. Taker moved and the sword got stuck in the ring mat (which leads me to believe it wasn't a gimmick sword). That was quite the angle although it never actually led to anything. That actually sounds pretty cool, it's too bad Berzerker never really got a push. -
Were any of the other matches good?
-
1) What led up to the Bret/Backlund match at Survivor Series 1994? 2) Was it a big shock at the time to the internet community (though it was small) and the "smarts" that Diesel won the title right after SS? Or was it well known that Vince wanted to put the strap on the big man? 3) Was there ever any consideration of having Owen Hart take the title and be the guy who got squashed by Diesel? 4) So I was looking over the Wrestling Classics message board and I saw a post talking about what the nWo angle was inspired by, and found this: "The NWO angle was inspired by the UWFi vs. New Japan feud that Eric Bischoff saw first-hand." Anybody have any info on this feud and what took place in it that was like the nWo angle?
-
Yeah I think we're all looking forward to a 6-woman tag team match... Maybe add two more and do it Survivor Series style. The fans are demanding it.

Wow, this is crazy.

God bless Mr. Perfect. I wish I had a more vivid memory of Repo Man's attack on Davey Boy Smith but I do remember marking out like crazy since I figured Repo was way lower on the totem pole than Bulldog. "Prime Time Wrestling - 4/20/92: Tito Santana defeated Repo Man via disqualification at 7:33 when Repo hit Santana with his steel hook and choked him with the rope; after the bout, Repo continued to choke Santana around the steel ringpost until officials sent him backstage (WrestleFest '92)" He must have been getting a slight heel push around this time? Either way, it's two TV tapings of him doing some dastardly stuff. Gotta love Repo Man. -

We have a Shiek/Slaughter bloodbath of a match. Were those common at the time at house shows? We have Norman Smiley in the WWF in 1990 wrestling Bob Orton Jr. in New Zealand? I'm interested to see Sid at a post-WM TV taping in 1992, winning a squash match and doing an interview mentioning Warrior. Did WWF think he was still sticking around at this point, and were they putting him into a feud with Warrior? We have Berzerker trying to stab Undertaker with his sword? Wow. Does that 1997 house show look horrible or what? We also have a RAW from 2002 in the midst of babyface pushes for Bubba and Bradshaw, plus a 2003 Smackdown with Cena beating Undertaker and Brock Lesnar defending the title against Matt Hardy, plus the return of Piper's Pit to WWE! -
1. Is there any particular reason why the WWF/E seems to always have done an international tour right after Wrestlemania? It seems to be a yearly tradition. 2. Was there any particular reason why March/April was chosen to be the time for Wrestlemania and not any other time of the year? Or is that just how it worked out so they kept going with it?

Was there any hesitation by Vince to do Diesel vs. HBK at Wrestlemania 11? We all know Vince's lack of pushing smaller guys, plus having a smaller guy like HBK in the heel spot against a big guy like Diesel was just something you didn't see. Were there ever any other plans, or was it always Diesel and Michaels? And if so, when did they decide to give Diesel the title and make this the Wrestlemania main event? (Well, aside from LT and Bam Bam of course)

And I mean live, in-person, not just online stuff. I'm going to start playing no limit hold 'em every week with 5-6 friends and I was wondering if there are any good sites out there (other than www.poker1.com, which I already found) that if good tips for beginners as far as betting, tells, etc. I don't need anything to help me beat pros...just some friends who are novices.

That and him taking his shirt off to fight made me laugh the most on this episode by far.
