Was there any reason why Furnas and LaFon got a big push in their debut match by surviving at SS96, but then never really got pushed much after that?
-
Didn't they get on Fox with Saturday Night Shotgun, or something? I was younger so the memory is all hazy, but I do recall SNS being on Channel 38 (Which is Fox now, if it wasn't then), but I do know it came on at midnight. Yeah, they got Shotgun Saturday Night...but was that on Fox? I can't even remember. I remember Taker tombstoning HHH on an escalator though. And that weird shit with Sunny.

Thanks to ShatteredSoul for the following: DARK MATCH: Match 1: Chris Masters over Hardcore Holly (some Renee Dupree punishment possibly?) Masters is a developmental talent from OVW. VELOCITY: Match 2: Shannon Moore & Nunzio & Chavo Guerrero over Billy Kidman & Akio &Spike Dudley. SHANNON MOORE pinned Spike. Yes, for real. With a flipping neckbreaker. Match 3: Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak pinned McCallister? & A-1 (possibly the steaksauce tycoon?) Nothing special here, it was short and painful. *Match 4: Bashams over Paul London & Funaki. Again, short and not so sweet but it was great seeing London again. SMACKDOWN: Match 1: Rey Mysterio Jr. over Renee Dupree in a pretty decent match. Rey won after the 619 and a springboard legdrop. Renee's eye looked F'n sick. Damn that Bob Holly. Next was the Tough Enough Competition. This week they had to Armwrestle one another in a mini tournament. Heres the results: Dan was eliminated before the arm wrestling. Puder over The Miz Ryan over Justice Puder over Ryan, so Puder wins again. weee! Next were some little segments. Firstly, Carlito Carribean Cool and Jesus talked about how Cena attacked Carlito before the match last week and cost him the US belt. Carlito then gave Jesus Cena's chain and lock because he took him out after the match last week. After that was a segment of Kenzo Suzuki watching Torrie Wilson on a monitor while his Hiroko was telling him about Thanksgiving. When she asked Kenzo what part of the turkey he wanted, he said he wanted some Breasts. Then there was a Bradshaw promo. He basically put down Indians and talked about how affirmitive action doesnt work. That was follows by a Rey Jr Promo with RVD talking about their tag title shot. Match 2: Rob Van Dam over Kenzo Suzuki via DQ after Kenzo used Hiroko's scarf to choke RVD out. Torrie was the ring announcer and after the match, Kenzo went after her and RVD made the save. Next was a Big Show Thanksgiving segment. He talked about how he ate his parents out of house and home and how his favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Show invited everyone (Tazzzzz,Cole,Chimel etc) to the ring for a feast. Luther came out, pied that Diva Search chick and then there was a foodfight like every Thanksgiving. The Diva Search chick hit Show in the face with the pie to end the segment. Match 3: Kurt Angle over Cody Steele. This was part of Kurt's invitational challenge. Steele said he was from Rochester, but a "Liar" chant rang out because we know he's from the Niagara Falls, Ontario area. Angle beat him with the ankle lock. Everyone thought it would be local favorite and Tough Enough winner Matt Cappotelli that was going to challenge Kurt. No dice though. A video then aired talking about how WWE went to Iraq during the holidays last year and to support the troops. Then the video said that they'd be returning back again this year during the holidays. Good for them, pretty classy. Match 4: Dawn Marie and Miss Jackie went to a no contest in some Thanksgiving costume gimmick type of match. Charlie Haas had to seperate the two of them after the match was thrown out. Main Event Match 5: JBL & Orlando Jordan over Booker T & Eddy Guerrero after interference from who (I believe) were the Dudley Boyz or the Basham Brothers. It was hard to tell cause they were wearing masks and then did the reveal, so don't quote me on that. After the Match, the gong rang and the arena went dark. Out came the Undertaker to take out JBL and Orlando. Weeeee! No Cena this week, which wasnt a suprise. I'd say most of the hard camera side was tarped off and the crowd was clumped together so it should look good on TV. Other than that, it wasnt a bad show since I got in free and all. Free wrestling is good wrestling! Biggest Pops (in no order): Puder RVD Eddy Rey Jr

When the Hogan/Flair cage match was done at Havoc 94, was Flair planning to take some time off? Planning to retire? Why have a retirement match and then return a few months later dressed as a woman to attack Randy Savage? How many times did Nick Patrick go from heel to babyface to heel, etc?

A few random tidbits...if any are bullshit, blame Alex Marvez, because these are old rumors from him. -The original plan for Mind Games was HBK/Lothario vs. Vader/Cornette and Sid/Ahmed vs. Bulldog/Owen, but Ahmed got hurt and the fans didn't really care about Lothario, so they put Mankind against HBK. -The WWF briefly considered doing weekly PPVs for $9.95 back in 1996, but it was an idea that never got very far. -Stevie Richards and Saturn were very close to going to the WWF in 1996, but those negotiations broke down. The rumor is that Richards' role was going to be as Jerry Lawler's "Court Jester". -There were thoughts of totally recreating the Undertaker character after Summerslam 1996. One rumor had Jake Roberts involved in this angle in some way. -There were rumors in late 96 of WWF trying to get a slot on Fox for a late Saturday night show that could be edgier.

Were there any long term plans for Nailz at the time aside from having him feud with Undertaker? He claimed in interviews he was innocent, were they ever going to reveal that? Why did Tatanka get pushed so hard for two years but never a title? Were there ever any bigger plans for him?
-
I know Hogan had a lot of pull, but how the hell did he get Brutus Beefcake to main event Starrcade 94 with him? What was the angle leading up to that match? How long was HHH with WCW for? What caused Marc Mero to leave WCW? And why didn't WCW ever make use of Sable?
-
The Booker/Hogan/Jarrett/Russo stuff is covered earlier in the thread. Apparently the original plan was a brand extension type idea with two world titles, one on Nitro, one on Thunder, that sort of thing.

What led to Dustin Rhodes leaving WCW and going to the WWF as Goldust in 1995? Wasn't he getting a big push since he was Dusty's son, or had that disappeared when Hogan came in? How did Savage debut in WCW? What was his first major feud? Why did Vader leave WCW? Was Bret Hart ever close to being the "third man" in the whole Bash at the Beach 96 deal, or was it always planned to be Hogan?

Apparently Ryan Reeves, who has posted on the Rajah forums before, just posted telling people not to vote for Puder: "Guys thanks for all the support. I have made the final four and I think I have a real shot of winning this thing especially after fridays one hour special is on and I expose Dan Puder for what he really is. The guy is here for the money and has had a shitload of luck on his side. He is just doing this to market himself for ultimate fighting and if he makes it he will not last. He was never even in UFC and has only had one real fight, his other 3 were nothing. I respect him as an athlete, but I love wrestling to much to let this guy win this thing. I have two broken ribs now, but I could care less cause I want this more than anything else in life. You do not have to vote for me, but please do not vote for that prick Puder. He won the sex test cause he kissed both Mae and Moolahs asses for 2 days straight when we have been told not to do that type of shit. They obviously liked it though and picked him on that. He went last against the Bashams and that is why he was able to do alright on them since they were so tired. Than last night you will see. He got very lucky again, but it is ok. For all of you doubting me, thanks! I have more personality than these guys and I will show it more and more every week. I held back a little in the begining cause I wanted more of a serious character, but I see that will not be enough so just wait. Training is going great and I am learing a lot very fast and cannot wait to see how this all unfolds. Again thank you everyone for everything! I have been extremely busy and have very little to pretty much no time to post or even go on the internet so sorry for that. For those saying I came here for votes, why have I not posted anything on any other sites? I have been coming to the news and rumors section of this board for years so please do not think I came here just for that. Vote for who you truly want to have it, I am just telling you I want this more than anyone, thanks."

But what if somebody beats him? They'll get his OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS!!!!! What if they put them down their PANTS like Benoit did!!!!!!!!!

My favorite line was from the CZWFans board, which was something like "wow, the SATs even botch posters."

He might not get a chance to any other time.

Found the thread.

Anyone else remember Mike Tenay doing an interview with Midajah, and just being a prick to her, basically calling her a whore, doing a semi heel turn...what was up with that? Just another angle they dropped quickly?

Velocity: 1) Spike/Kidman/Akio vs. Chavo/Nunzio/Shannon Moore 2) Reigns/Jindrak vs. 2 guys 3) Bashams vs. London/Funaki Smackdown: 1) Rey Misterio vs. Rene Dupree 2) RVD vs. Kenzo Suzuki 3) Kurt Angle's hometown challenge 4) Dawn Marie and Jackie in some Thanksgiving costume thing 5) Booker/Eddie vs. JBL/Orlando Jordan

I'm kind of surprised Rodimer was eliminated from TE. Looks like we might get Spike vs. Shannon Moore at Armageddon.

London returns as a Velocity jobber! Yay!

Jarrett vs. Monty on free TV... Way to go TNA.

Found this in an old Alex Marvez column from 1996, and it was so weird I decided to put it here: ""Blood Runs Cold" will be a trio of Ninjas in the style of Mortal Kombat. One of the three will be former WWF star Adam Bomb." Bryan Clarke as a ninja?

Oh, I also hope this thread shows everybody how full of shit Scott Keith is. Borga was not supposed to be in the WM10 main event, Steve Austin was not originally scheduled to win the title at Final Four (at least according to Meltzer), and plenty else he says is false. Don't believe him.

I really thought that snapped ankle finish was supposed to be for WM. My fault. I found a tidbit looking through some old stuff about a tag team set to debut in the WWF in 95/96 called Assault and Battery. Does anyone know who they were/were supposed to be?
