Debate on the worst PPVs of all time!

Yep, Steiner does an ugly frankensteiner at WM9. Weirdly enough, though, I've always liked Wrestlemania 9 (except for Hogan winning the title), though I'm one of the very few.
  2. You guys don't know how SHOCKED and AMAZED I am that a big WWE match ended with a heel (sort of, in this case) getting a pin with a rollup using the tights and ropes for leverage! They NEVER do that!
  3. No, I'm not talking about HBK carrying Kevin Nash to a ****1/2 match. I'm talking about a match in which BOTH wrestlers were known throughout their career as guys who didn't have good matches, but for whatever reason they came up with a good or a great match against each other. Can you think of some?

WWE News & Notes from the 10/18 Observer

Agent 1: Come on, guys! Let's finally tell Vince what the real problem with RAW is! Agent 2: Yeah! [They walk into Vince's office.] Agent 1: Vince, we have something really important we need to talk to you...oh, hi Stephanie. Steph: Hi. Vince: So what's so important? Agent 1: Oh...nothing...

  7. Georgia wrestler accused of stabbing opponent 14 times The Associated Press - JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A professional wrestler from Georgia, accused of stabbing his opponent 14 times with a prop during a match, has been arrested on a charge of aggravated battery. Both wrestlers in the local Thunder Wrestling Federation event told police the prop was brought in as part of what in wrestling is known as "hard-core," where it is not uncommon to see such props as knives, chains, bats and barbed wire. The event's promoter said it wasn't supposed to be hard-core. Police charged Jerome Young, 41, of Smyrna, Ga., who goes by the ring name of New Jack, with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was being held under $40,003 bond Tuesday in the Duval County Jail. A court appearance was set for Nov. 2. Young told police he and his opponent, William Jason Lane, 37, of Fruit Cove, planned before the match to use a piece of metal to inflict some injury. Lane, treated and released at Shands Jacksonville hospital, told officers he wasn't sure what happened but that "this is a dangerous sport," according to a police report. Lane did not want to talk about the incident Tuesday, but a woman who said she was his girlfriend told The Florida Times-Union that the event was supposed to be hard-core but not violent. "It wasn't supposed to happen like that. But it did, and he got hurt pretty bad," said Meghan Hancock. Promoter Maurice Williams said he doesn't promote hard-core. "We wrestle. You won't see any barbed wire bats and chains." Williams said wrestlers will be checked closely before future bouts. "There will be nothing ever coming near Thunder again," he said. Witnesses, including a Brunswick, Ga., police officer who videotaped the match, said it looked like it went past a routine wrestling match. Another witness said it looked like one wrestler lost control when he thought the other was "intentionally trying to hurt him," according to the police report. A fan scooped up the metal object, which has not been recovered by police. Jail records Tuesday gave no information on Young's legal representation.

    Make a bold prediction

A year ago at this time, if anyone predicted Bradshaw would be the WWE champion a year later, most people would have laughed. So make a prediction for something that will happen in the WWE in the next year.

    Smackdown Taping Results

Come on now, they did the same thing last week with having Heidenreich get squashed for the live fans, they're not going to air it. And yes, I broke down and read the spoilers.
  11. On 10/18/99 (okay, it's a day short of 5 years as I type this, so what?), Russo and Ferrara had their first episode of Nitro after jumping from the WWF to WCW to "save" that company. This thread is devoted to WCW from this point to its end. Feel free to comment about whatever you'd like. Results: 1) Evan Karagias and Juventud Guerrera go to a no contest when Bret Hart walks down in the middle of their match to do a mic segment. Sting comes down and they set up Sting/Bret for the world title later. 2) Disco Inferno d. Vampiro 3) Rey Misterio Jr. and Konnan d. Harlem Heat to become the WCW tag team champions 4) Meng d. Hugh Morrus 5) Berlyn d. Rick Steiner after interference by Berlyn's bodyguard. 6) Kidman d. David Flair after distraction by Torrie Wilson 7) Mona d. Madusa in an evening gown match 8) Sting d. Bret Hart to retain the WCW title after Lex Luger hit Bret in the leg with a bat, and Sting hooked the Scorpion Deathlock. 9) La Parka d. Buff Bagwell - after the match, Bagwell got on a headset and said "did I do good for you Russo? Is there anyone else you want to beat me?" Jeff Jarrett debuts and hits Bagwell with a guitar. 10) Chavo Guerrero d. Eddy Guerrero and Perry Saturn 11) Norman Smiley d. Horace Hogan 12) Goldberg d. Lex Luger -This show also features the Outsiders trying to sneak into the arena as the Villanos, Kimberly meeting Ric Flair in a hotel (after thinking she was going to see David Flair), the Filthy Animals beating up Flair and taking his clothes and Rolex, and plenty of women in their underwear.
  12. I also wonder what would have happened in 1999 during Russo's first run if Hall, Goldberg, Jarrett, and Hart all hadn't gotten injured. Russo might never have been removed from power because he wouldn't have suggested Tank Abbott to win the title!

  15. The April 10th, 2000 show was basically an "angle overkill" show to get the ball rolling for the future. Didn't have any wrestling, but it had a ton of angles thrown at you at once, kind of like Spring Stampede ended up being. I think they were doing fine/okayish until they put the title on Arquette. And the fact that the title changed hands NINE TIMES from Spring Stampede to the end of May...NINE TIMES is a month and a half, didn't really do much for the prestige of that title or making people care any about the angles. And of course the angle with Arquette didn't make SENSE, either...he beats Bischoff in a match so DDP gets a title shot at Jarrett. DDP beats Jarrett for the title. Arquette then wins the title from DDP in a tag match when he's on DDP'S TEAM, and then screws over DDP at Slamboree and gives the title back to Jarrett. So what the fuck was the point of all that? Oh well...I guess it wasn't much worse than the shit WCW did from January-March of 2000. That stuff sucked too.

Debate on the worst PPVs of all time!

Speaking of Starrcade 1997, let's not forget the storyline that since the main event was so important, JJ Dillon decided to put the names of all referees into a hat to pick out the ref for the main event, who ended up being Nick Patrick, of course. That's right...such an important decision, they PICKED A NAME OUT OF A HAT. Yeah.

    The 'Be Michael Cole' Thread

"OH MY GOD, TAZZ! LOOK AT JBL! HE CAN'T BELIEVE IT! IT'S GOING TO BE JBL FACING THE UNDERTAKER AT SURVIVOR SERIES IN THE UNDERTAKER'S SPECIALITY MATCH! I DON'T THINK UNDERTAKER HAS EVER LOST A CASKET MATCH!" Cole expresses his disgust at Kurt Angle for hitting the Big Show in the back with a chair during Show's match against Luther Reigns.
