    Complete Smackdown Spoilers

WWE.com mentions Funaki being hurt, which points towards the third set as well.
  3. I saw this too. I believe it's called the Merchants of Cool? I had the exact thoughts you did when watching this in my Mass Media class.

May 17th - This Day in History

Muraco used a tombstone? Not a good day to Perfect. That 1993 RAW...still maybe the best one hour RAW ever. Savio beating a jobber in under a minute on a house show? Weird. Austin vs. Jake for 17+ minutes?????? Those two 1997 matches in MSG were probably very fun. Weird that Taker was the heel and Bradshaw the face in their 2002 match.
  5. Did ECW ever acknowledge Raven's past gimmicks as Scotty Flamingo, Johnny Flamingo, etc?
  6. God damn these make me laugh every time I read them: Quote #37 "When they made the stip where Flair got five minutes with Russo, Russo didn't sell it, and then said 'this is where I'm supposed to play chicken shit heel' to zero pop" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: May 08, 2000 Quote #44 "Funk came out with chickens on both hands like they were boxing gloves" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: May 22, 2000 Quote #46 "David (Flair) did an interview. It was weird because he was bragging about his long-legged blonde girlfriend and having a Corvette to show he hasn't done badly for himself (his real-life fiancé is Stacy Keibler), which was strange since Daffney was right there as a medium-legged brunette who is supposed to be his girlfriend, but not only that, earlier in this very same show he asked her to marry him." - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: May 22, 2000 Quote #51 "Some notes from 9/12 in Roanoke for the Thunder tapings. Hayabusa was there but was only going to be put on World Wide against The Frog." - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: September 11, 2000 Quote #56 "CNN ran a special on Goldberg on 10/22. They showed Vince Russo and the booking team talking about a Nitro where Bill Goldberg would get revenge on Scott Steiner. Russo had an idea that Steiner would be in the dressing room bleaching his mustache and Goldberg would pour Clorox down Steiner's throat. Ed Ferrara noted that you don't bleach a mustache with Clorox. He then said they could use bleach instead."- The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: October 30, 2000 Quote #60 "Luger ripped on Mark Madden to start the show. Seems that Luger was mad at Madden for saying his bodyfat percentage has gone up. He made fun of Madden's physique in an unscripted segment Madden didn't know anything about. Luger then brought out Ross Foreman and yelled at him for not having any photos of him in WCW Magazine" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: November 13, 2000 Quote #67 "Beginning this week, Nitro is going head-to-head with Thunder in Australia" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: January 22, 2001 Quote #68 "Scott Steiner was arrested from an incident at the TV tapings the night before which ended up being edited off television. They were doing a stretcher job deal and Steiner started kicking one of the EMT's, apparently thinking they weren't real EMT's. As it turned out, they used real EMT's, and one of them decided to press (police) charges" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: January 29, 2001 Quote #74 "They showed a limo pulling up to the arena and the announcers referenced a limo pulling into the arena. Then they cut to a shot inside the limo of Stasiak and Kanyon and in the conversation they talked about arriving at the hospital" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: March 12, 2001 Quote #75 "The main event on the show, believe it or not, was Flair kissing a donkey" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: March 26, 2001 Quote #78 "They had La Parka on the ground and drew those chalk lines around him, except he was still laying there. Gene uttered the immortal line to Juvi as he was talking Spanish, 'Don't talk Mexican to me'." - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: January 18, 1999 Quote #83 "Michael Buffer came out for absolutely no reason. See, he was there to announce the main event. But get this, there was no main event. Flair, at this moment, fell out of the turnip truck, grabbed a hoe and kept falling down" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: February 22, 1999 Quote #86 "There was some heat on Hogan calling the camera man a 'jiggly, jiggly, jew' on Nitro, but eveidently not enough for the segment not to have been replayed on every show during the week" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: February 15, 1999 Quote #90 "Hart and Bischoff tried to work the people and the wrestlers backstage that the angle was a shoot as they argued backstage with no cameras on in front of the wrestlers, but Bischoff has done that so often now that the wrestlers consider it a pathetic joke and no one bought it" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: April 05, 1999 Quote #109 "Flair is about to be dropped from the Time Magazine Man of the Century internet balloting where he is currently in second place behind Jesus Christ. More than 20 million people have voted, making it the biggest web poll in history, with Flair getting more than 310,000 votes as of 3/31. Flair is being dropped because Janice Castro, the editor of Time.com, said his showing is due to unfair lobbying from wrestling web sites. Jesus is about to go down as well, as religious organizations have gotten members to flood the ballot box too. Time.com is planning an exit strategy, however with the God of wrestling and the Son of God removed, the big winner in the poll appears to be Adolf Hitler, who would become the front runner" - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter: April 12, 1999

    WWE PPV buyrate question

I'm looking for official PPV buyrate numbers from Royal Rumble 2005 - present. Can anyone help me out? Thanks! (I want the actual amount of buys, not a buyrate number) How long does it take to usually get a final, official number with "all precincts reporting", so to speak?

    WON News and Notes

Thanks for the notes...I thought this WON, Meltzer was going to talk a lot about them bringing back ECW? Anything on that?
  10. I remember on Thunder the announcers referring to a match where Fit Finlay upset Ric Flair. When did this match take place?

    WWF in 2000...

I was looking through some old show listings from 2000 WWF stuff tonight. It's the year that's hailed by most as being the best in WWF history as far as good angles and good matches go. Aside from old PPVs I own on tape or DVD, I realized I haven't seen ANY of these TV episodes and matches since they aired (except the big 5 vs. 5 RAW tag match that got a ton of hype) and so I was wondering...has anyone watched WWF 2000 TV stuff lately and does it hold up to the test of time?

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Why was the MSG Incident such a big deal to Vince in 1996? It's not like anything that ever happened at a house show was paid attention to in the past. Was it because it was at MSG and he was embarrassed they broke kayfabe there?
  13. So I'm looking at picking up a full season on DVD of old WCW Nitro episodes, either from 1996, 1997, or 1998. I know each year has plenty of stupidty and bad matches, but I know there's a ton of great stuff in there too. Which season would be best to get from an overall standpoint of good angles, great matches, and so on? I know 1996 has the great nWo stuff and cruiser invasion, but the first part of the year still has stupid Dungeon of Doom crap. I know 1997 is where the nWo stuff really took off, but how are the matches? 1998 I really have no clue about. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  14. 16. -Wrestlers backstage are quite shocked MNM has been left off the WrestleMania card thus far, after working solidly and being very over for the past year. -Rey Mysterio has been receiving assurances recently he is being groomed for the main event scene and a World Title run over the next couple of years. -Jim Ross has been offering advice and constructive criticism to Joey Styles over the past few months regarding his RAW announcing performance. Its said even the JR critics has been very unsupportive of Styles, due to his old criticisms of WWE on his website and cocky reputation, with management deriding him rather than offering assistance. Styles' attitude has changed from excited and easygoing, to tense and paranoid. -Nikolai Volkoff is running for the Maryland House of Delegates. -Triple H has been reported saying he and Stephanie are planning to bring their baby on the road aboard their private bus with them travelling between events. -Commercials running for Backlash feature John Cena pledging to take back what is his, suggesting plans are in place for Triple H to win the title at WM. -McMahon has informed John Laurenaitis he wants the mid-card roster built up with experienced big guys, hence the recent tryouts and confirmed returns by Test, O'Haire, Palumbo etc. with those who can looked the most jacked on low steroid and HGH levels (due to the drug policy) having the best chance at receiving roster spots. -There was a recent altercation between Edge and a fan at an Iowa house show where the fan threw a soda that hit Edge, who responded by going into the crowd and grabbing the guy by the shirt, shaking him around as the guy went limp. Security broke it up within seconds and escorted the fan away, while Edge walked off angrily. -SmackDown! is holding live events in Israel in July for the first time in 12 years. -Stevie Richards assisted Shane McMahon in some in-ring training and warm-ups before SNME. Thoughts?

    The Youtube Thread

Don't know if they're on there, but if anyone could find some awesome video packages/top of the show video hype thingies, that would be great. Like the "In One Hour" from JD2000, or the "If Life Was Fair" from Summerslam 1997.
  20. Was Razor Ramon the first guy to regularly use a chokeslam in the WWF as a trademark move? (Before Taker and others?)
  21. 10 "newer" and 10 "older" themes. About 10 seconds of each. See if you can figure out whose theme music they are, and post your answers here. Who can be the first to get them all? Anyways...thoughts? Questions?
  24. Looking at Cawthon's site in the past, I saw results for some unique house show matches that were clearly different than the usual thing the WWF was doing on house shows at the time. Some of these have been discussed on here in the past, but for example, at a MSG house show before the 1994 Royal Rumble: Owen Hart won a 30-man Royal Rumble match at 1:10:17 by last eliminating Fatu; the last four men in the ring were Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Fatu, and Owen; Michaels eliminated Bret; Owen eliminated Michaels after Razor Ramon came ringside to distract HBK; order of entry: Diesel, Mo, Butch, the 1-2-3 Kid (the Kid suffered a leg injury from his elimination which caused him to miss the PPV Rumble), Scott Steiner, Iron Mike Sharpe, Samu, Bob Backlund, Jeff Jarrett, Virgil, Bam Bam Bigelow, Randy Savage, Adam Bomb, Sgt. Slaughter, Crush, Mabel, Jim Powers, Bastion Booger, Luke, Owen Hart, Rick Martel, Bret Hart, IRS, Johnny Polo, Scott Putski, Fatu, Marty Jannetty, Bart Gunn, Shawn Michaels, and Doink the Clown; the final four men in the ring were Shawn Michaels, Bret, Owen, and Samu; Bret was eliminated after Fatu returned ringside; Michaels was eliminated after Razor Ramon came ringside; after the bout, Bret returned ringside to fight off the Headshrinkers and celebrate Owen's victory Also, at two MSG shows in 1997: -The Brooklyn Brawler won a 20-man battle royal to earn a world title shot during the 11/15 MSG event; other participants included: Los Boricuas, DOA, the Truth Commission, Brian Christopher, Scott Taylor, the Headbangers, and the New Blackjacks, among others -WWF World Champion Shawn Michaels pinned the Brooklyn Brawler at the 15 minute mark with the superkick after interference from Chyna and distraction from Triple H Are there any other matches from the past (non-televised) that strike you as interesting? www.thehistoryofwwe.com
