I was thinking about it but last month I went to Texas for a week. Can't take another trip. And yeah people have no clue. I really resent the lack of respect Tekken often gets. I hate how the press and random people on boards have decided to love VF and SC but still think Tekken is about 10 strings and multi throws. Have you played Lili against anyone good yet? I found the idea of her being too good dies fast. Against someone that knows her flip stuff and can SW and break throws well she becomes very limited. I find her fun and her damage and crushes make her worth playing but I don't think she is nearly as good as she seems at first. She needs a better low and something to track, f+3 doesn't cut it.

If they're serious about appealing to girls, old people and whatever other non gamers it has to be 100-200. I wish I could be a Merrill Lynch analyst. They get paid to speculate about the obvious and nobody ever seems to mind when they're wrong. I bet they make good money too.

The bizarre analogies and 4D thing are unbelievable. If I didn't know otherwise I would swear that was a photoshop! You just can't make stuff like that up.
-
Yeah, what's with that? The PSX price annoucement is one of the most classic E3 moments. Them coming out and just saying "299" was one of the smartest moves they made in the early days. So weird. The stuff about it being "too cheap" is also crazy. I guess technically it's a good value but nobody cares about Bluray. They'd be better off hyping up that yes it is very expensive but it's going to be worth it. Like N64's "quality over quantity" and SNK's brilliant hot dog campaign....nevermind what ended up happening to both those systems. Remember a couple years ago when the N-Gage people brought out this girl with 299 or whatever the price was and they hyped it up to mimic the PSX price point annoucement? But instead of big cheers it was met with apathy. Silly N-Gage.

Haha yeah that was the worst drought ever. It made games like Cruis'n seem good. I can't believe such a lame game like Cruis'n was so popular. The arcade still has like 200 Cruis'n cabinets. N64 was a really good second system. It only got a good game once every few months but it'd be one so good it would last until the next came out. It was also THE multiplayer system. Mario Kart, GoldenEye, WCW Revenge, Mario Party....only thing PSX had on N64 in terms of multiplayer was the 2 player fighting games.

Vaunted? I hate on Bluray all the time and last night said I might not even get a PS3 at launch. Just because I think it'll still win doesn't mean I'm happy about the price or the Bluray.
-
What? You think I'm making this up or something? Again, look it up. N64 carts were insanely expensive. 70-80 for a new game was the norm, not some random EB thing.
-
N64 carts went down to a reasonable price after the first year. 70-80 dollar carts wasn't just an EB thing though. Look it up on google, Mario 64 went for like 70. That was the standard retail price. I got Mario, Cruis'n, MKT, KI Gold, Blast Corps, Waverace and a couple more for that price.
-
Yeah, the GC discs didn't mean much...but the carts for N64 did. 80 dollars for a game? That was so dumb.
-
Yeah, I hate the Bluray thing too. I don't want one of those things. I'd be happy if PS3 still had a regular DVD drive. But using technology for profit instead of the benifit of gaming isn't anything new. Nintendo went with outdated, expensive carts for N64 because of the licensing fees they get milk from 3rd parties. They used those mini discs on GC to prevent piracy. The only reason they're not doing anything like that this gen is because they need Wii to be as cheap and simple as possible. Fine, I just wish people would come out and say that instead of repeating Nintendo's PR about how Wii is going to change the world forever.

Thoth said "For the record, the only arcade perfect port of Alpha 3 is on PSP". You replied with "No it isnt. The dreamcast one was." 3S on Dreamcast does not have "a better frames per second rate". Please stop making things up. Again, 3S on Dreamcast only has new guard system. You cannot do some of the unblockables on Dreamcast. It doesn't matter how you map the buttons. The triggers still make it difficult to do EX moves. DC pad is not going to be near "arcade faithful" no matter what you do.
-
Are you from Bizzaro world?
-
Later you said it was arcade perfect. The PSP version was brought up and you clearly said it was too. Look at your own posts. The point is, DC's hardware is nothing like CPS2. It's still capable of good ports. So is PS2. There is nothing preventing the PS2 from a DC quality port of SF Alpha. Neither DC or PS2's standard controller is anything like the arcade versions. Both have dpads and 4 face buttons. DC then has the crappy triggers while PS2 has the shoulder buttons. I would rather use the PS2 pad but it can still be a pain, it's annoying trying to do EX moves on PS2 in 3S without mapping L1 and L2 as PPP and KKK. Doing an EX punch move on the DC pad is even worse. Playing Remy on the DC pad is horrible.

Except they're not offering anything different. Moving Samus around with a wand instead of an analog stick isn't a revolution. It's still going to play the same. It's still a FPS. Nintendo may release some stuff that is truely different but a new SSB or Metroid Prime isn't it. The hype these games are getting makes me wonder if a revolution is even what people honestly want. There's so much talk about wanting simple, back to basics games and this new way of playing....but then are most excited about a new SSB. I can't help but wonder if people are interested because of the wand or because it's a new Nintendo console with traditional Nintendo franchises.
-
Huh? This is the most nonsensical post I have ever seen. And you did say Alpha 3 on Dreamcast was arcade perfect.
-
Yes, sequels on everything. A staple of gaming. Except Nintendo won't shut up about how it's going to redefine gaming while hyping their sequels. Seriously...Metroid Prime 3. Think about it. It's the sequel to a sequel of a prequel of two sequels. No matter the control scheme it's still just Metroid Prime 3.
-
How does 3rd Strike on PS2 play like shit? Give some examples. Nothing vague like "it's choppy" either. Specific examples. Dreamcast hardware is totally different from CPS2 and 3 too. It was still able to play Alpha 3 or 3rd Strike. According to you they're arcade perfect.
-
In other words.....they played Sony's game and lost. What exactly is new from Nintendo? The controller is new but so far all of Nintendo's talk of changing gaming forever and breaking barriers has been just....talk. What games are being hyped for Wii? A new Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros. and Metroid. It's easy to scream "omg innovation!" and come up with buzz phrases about redefining gaming but Metroid Prime part 3 isn't exactly my idea of a revolution.

You don't have to be the best Tekken player to beat mashers. Because they generally allow 3rd party developers to do whatever they want. Why did Nintendo alllow Titus to release Superman for N64? It's how the industry works. PS2 has the most crap games because it has the most games period. 100 million PS2s have been sold. Of course it's going to have tons of crappy games. It doesn't. 3rd Strike is better on PS2 and Xbox. You can't even select the old guard system on DC. PS2 3S has completely replaced DC 3S on the tournament scene. You're ignoring everything and ranting about Sony for no reason. Sony has nothing to do with the 3D backgrounds in KOF. KOF on Dreamcast and Xbox is the same way. Sony doesn't make the games. If you don't like the 3D backgrounds rant about SNK. It's the same for any gameplay problems. Sony isn't porting these games and the PS2 hardware isn't at fault. Neo Geo and CPS hardware is ancient. You're completely delusional if you honestly think the PS2 cannot handle a port of Street Fighter Alpha properly. If any port has a problem it's the fault of the developers. Guilty Gear and 3rd Strike play fine on PS2. They are more advanced than any Alpha game.

Nintendo wasn't always in the video game industry either. Sony and MS have been in for years and are dedicated. They're here to stay and are every bit a game company as Nintendo, regardless of their other divisions. Nintendo isn't setting up Wii to be a simple and cheap game system for the benifit of gamers. They're doing it because it's their strategy to build up their market share. You had better believe if they thought they could compete with Sony and sell a 600 dollar system they would. They're going in this direction because they have no choice, they played Sony's game and lost. Andrew is right, when Nintendo was in charge they were every bit as tyrannical as Sony is precieved to be. Maybe worse. It's easy to be nostalgic and look at them as the poor old school underdog just trying to get by. It's been a long time and most of us were kids when they were doing ridiculous stuff like forcing Konami to set up Ultra games just because of their insane licensing guidelines. Nintendo is a ruthless business just like the others. Their goal is to make money. Reggie isn't our friend. The world will not be a better place if Nintendo regains their position.

Every system has crappy games. Who cares? You don't have to play them. What a silly point. "They" isn't Sony. It's SNK putting in the 3d stages. It's a design choice, something they feel improves the game, not a hardware limitation. They did the same thing on Dreamcast and Xbox. There are a bunch of 2D fighters on PS2 that made no changes to the graphics. 3rd Strike for example. Greedy? That makes no sense. SNK, Capcom and Sammy are making these games. Not Sony. Sony does not demand them to release these games. In fact Sony often doesn't allow them to release them unless it's a bundle or for a budget price. Did you ever consider the possibility that they simply suck at the game? I could mash in KOF and beat people that suck too. Play someone good, not someone who just thinks they're good. Are you aware there is a huge community of high level Tekken players from all over the world? Do you honestly think they mash buttons? Go to Evolution this year and mash in T5. It'd be an easy way to win $5,000! For someone who seems to love fighting games you don't seem to know much about them. Maybe you should look past your misguided hate for Sony. You might find some new games to play. I think 2d vs. 3d is a pointless comparison. It depends on the game. 3S is better than Bloody Roar. T5 is better than Capcom Fighting Jam.

Strider and King of Dragons are good. KOD is especially cool, it's an underappreaciated beat em up. Super Turbo and Knights of the Round are good but I already have access to the actual arcade games. SF1 is a nice addition just for the novelty of it. Good compilation. Better than most, which often have only 1 game I care about. I wonder if ST is going to be an emulated CPS2 ST or just the PSX version. That is going to be a big deal to the old school players who hate the PSX version and other home ports.
-
Right, the PS2 just can't handle the awesome power of the CPS2 and Neo Geo hardware. Only Dreamcast can come close to matching that kind of technology. Maybe if Sony is lucky the $600 PS3 will be able to have arcade perfect ports of SF II World Warrior. Somehow I doubt you have experiance playing anyone good at Tekken.
-
Yeah I get that, I blame the people in upper management more than the employees. But there's a difference between trying to sell it to me and just not giving up at all.
-
Yeah, that stuff is so dumb. You can already take it back if it's broke when you first take it home. Who's ever heard of a CD just breaking down later? That last time I was in EB there was the most obnoxious of those employees I've ever seen. Just harassing me to buy some kind of card to get 10% of used games or something. He would not let it go. I kept telling him I hardly ever buy used games or even go in there and he wouldn't quit trying. That is one of the main reasons I never want to go in there. I hate that pressure. I always feel close to giving in.
