Yeah, I agree. I like my hobby. I want good stuff to succed, rather than crap. I'm picky and I don't want to praise a mediocre effort as best game ever. I'm aware of superior products. That's why I say FF VII is the best game ever.

I'm not too fond of IX's cast, with the exception of Steiner who is funny. and the horrible breed of gamers intent on bashing anyone who has other priorities beyond what they think is important in making a game good. Also FF VII is a big battle ground for the obnoxious war against the dreaded "Casual Gamers".

Well, obviously developers were more interested in doing violent games once one was a huge success. Whoa, so like...Mortal Kombat was part of DESTINY!? Ed and John are like prophets or something! Very little like SF II? It's just like SF II...except it sucks. SF II is SF 1 with a few new things done well. Someone else could have done that. My original avatar? I don't even remember what my original was. I've had so many. Or do you mean Paine? I don't see why I should be insulted at X-2. Because the girls have revealing clothes? That is pretty weak, but Yuna is one of the best female leads ever in games. She is so strong and positive. She is someone you can look up to. The girls in X-2 are awesome. They're strong willed(and really funny) without being "xtreme femme fatales with attitude" like Bloodryane or Lara Croft or whatever. They actually seem real, with real personalities. I don't like the shorts look in X-2, and some other outfits, but the positives far outweigh that negative. War Gods is funny and cool, but not "good". I took offense to you suggesting I bought The Bouncer because it was made by Square.

Doubt it'd still be taboo, but history could be quite different. If a huge bomb like BMX XXX had been in MK's place would we have seen so many mature games? If another company had made MK and backed down under pressure would we see as many mature games? What would have happened with the ratings system? Would we still have it or would we have the government forcing censorship? Who knows? There's so many possible scenarios. Based on games like Yi Aire Kung Fu and SF 1 already being out and games like Fatal Fury being on the way I'd say things may have not been much different at all, if one of them caught on like SF II. But it's just like MK....you can't say what would have happened. True, that makes obnoxious behavior ok then. And I don't really care who Square panders to, especially since I like it too. Why would I be insulted by Square doing "fan service" or whatever when I think it's cool? Yes lets! TRUE! Sarcasm. Yes. So is KI2! When did I mention War Gods and say The Bouncer is good? I mentioned other violent games along with MK BEFORE you, so obviously I'm aware there would be SOME violent games if MK had never come out. I know. A lot of people are speechless after my breathtaking commentary. "To call me awesome is an understatement."

Reaching out and making the console easy to work with only go so far. The reason developers abondone GC is because the ports just don't make enough money, not because of Nintendo's relations with them. Nintendo's in a horrible sit. uation(which is there own fault) where they can't get a huge userbase because they don't have enough games and they don't have enough games because they can't get a huge userbase.

MK is fun to play too. But you do buy that without SF II nobody would have ever made a good fighting game? Speak for yourself. I for one find games to be much better now than they were in the olden days. Good ones........or good ones Andrew likes? Voting for something because it's Square is biased. Just like not giving something credit because you don't like it is biased. How do they insult us in X-2 or advertising? X-2 wasn't insulting, it was cool.

That's the same rhetoric we heard after N64. For every F-Zero there's 3 MK Deceptions being canceled. Nintendo can talk all they want but where's the results? It's clear GC has less games coming than Xbox and PS2.

MK's violence is it's merits. Flash over substance is what MK is about. Even Ed Boon says that, so obviously taking away the violence would take away it's influence. The influencial aspect of MK not being part of the gameplay doesn't really matter. There's more to games than just "gameplay". Presentation, music, story...many things come into play. Just like in movies there's more to them than just the script, or just the acting. But none of this matters. The point was that a game being influencial doesn't automatically make it good. All of this stuff you're saying is just agreeing with me. Indeed there were other games. They should get credit too. But MK was the biggest one, and so it gets the most credit. We'll never know what would have happened had Joe Lieberman not seen MK. Like I said before, we can play the "maybe" game all day....the fact is MK is what ended up starting the revolution. And? SF II had it's share of bad clones as well. Meanwhile you're pissed at Gamefaqs users being biased? Implying? I think I've made it pretty clear MK paved the way for other violent games. They're in. It was the early 90's.... Part of the reason I like KI2 and MK3 over KI and MK II is the faster paced, more aggressive gameplay though. So no.

Best GAME ever. Not just RPG! A lot of them did use it though. Because it's the same thing with SF II. SF II wasn't the first fighting game. It wasn't the first game to play like that. But it was the first to be really good and get noticed. Therefor it gets the credit. Many MK clones have been really good and very successful. Both MK/MK II and KI have a heavy emphasis on turtling and retaliation. I don't think it's got enough emphasis on juggles to mention it. Without any "but...."s did you not see a major change in the industry once MK came out? Yes or no? After the release of MK were there not more and more violent games released? Yes? No? Obviously yes. Other games were violent then. Maybe one of them would have caught on. Maybe something else would have been created to start the revoltion. THE SAME APPLIES WITH STREET FIGHTER II. Maybe one of the other crappy fighting games out then would have caught on. Maybe some other great fighting game would have come out had SF II not. Who knows? The fact is MK did come out, MK did get big, MK did cause a congressional hearing, MK did cause Nintendo to change it's business practices, MK did and MK did usher more mature themed games. You can play the "maybe someone else would have done it" card all day for any revolution in just about anything, even outside games. MK did it. MK gets the credit. Stop the spin and damage control and just admit it: A game you hate is an important part of video game history. The whole point was that MK being influencial doesn't automatically make it good, so I don't know why you're desperatly trying to downplay it's importance.

I say they're good. You say they're not. Somehow your word is like god....so I lose. So? Of course all the clones suck. AndrewTS says they suck so that just nullifies all the games MK influenced. Ok. It uses SF II's button layout and other things, but KI's presentation and retaliation heavy gameplay is pure MK. Plus KI is really good. The same goes with SF II. The game that does it the best and enough to get noticed is the game that gets credit for innovating, the way it always is. Right. The Japanese have no idea what MK is. It's not like Japanese companies were directly involved with the MK controversey or that Japanese companies developed MK clones after MK's popularity. Look at gaming pre MK and post MK. If you cannot see the difference in the content, popularity and amount of mature games after it's release, the congressional hearing and the ratings system then I don't know what to tell you.

It's not just exclusive titles Nintendo is losing either. Developers are scaling back on porting multiconsole games to GC too. All this news adds up and makes the future of GC and Nintendo's next console look pretty bleak.

This isn't an isolated incident though. The "well it's not THAT big of a deal" damage control only works so many times.....

Yeah...except FF VII isn't outclassed by tons of RPGS, if any at all. The characters, story, gameplay, music and presentation is among the best EVER seen in gaming, of any genre. I think that's a pretty good reason to name it best game ever. This makes no sense. You said the only reason people keep buying Square games is because they're Square games. I brought up the remote possibility that maybe, just maybe, people buy Square games because they like playing Square games(a crazy theory, I know). It's influence on games in it's genre is quite extensive. Basically every modern fighting game now uses it's combo system, both 2D and 3D, many use it's block button, and the list of clones that spawned off is too long to type out, including hits like Killer Instinct and Primal Rage. Of course you personally don't like any of the games, you don't like juggling in new 2D fighters and all that so it "doesn't count" or whatever. More importantly, you're missing the big picture on the ratings thing. The violence issue influenced games outside it's genre. MK paved the way for other games with "mature", violent themes, like GTA, Resident Evil and countless other franchises from many different genres.

My guess is replace. We know the default roster, or are just one or two characters away from knowing it, and it appears Kano isn't in the game. He could be hidden, but with a replacement already there him being hidden would be kinda lame. It's weird though...they already had a Kano replacement(Jarek). Why another? I'm wondering if the Liu Kang thing is actually just something in Konquest mode. The idea of a ghost of Liu being playale is pretty weird, but like his spirit talking to you in Konquest and teaching you moves or whatever makes perfect sense.

The new Gameinformer confirms that most, if not all, of that info is true. They even specifically mention Tanya. The female member of Kano's clan is named Kira. Ken was a mistranslation. It's actually a new guy named Ben. Liu Kang returns....as both as spirit and a zombie... With all this new info we know close to the entire default roster now.

It's pretty sad when you have to hype top loading carts as a new feature. If they'd release a MK game for it I'd buy it.

Why can't it be? I like the gameplay, stories, characters, and overall polish and quality. Here's another explanation......maybe they like the games? Then that's a weak point. I don't own Bouncer because it's Square. You just ignored the main point. I don't care if someone votes against SF II. Doesn't mean I don't care about all the comments.

I have a room with my PC, TVs and games. My actual bedroom and other rooms in the house don't have any game stuff. A lot of it is cheap. You can get old 16 bit stuff for like 10 dollars or less. Also a bunch, like the SF stuff, was bought over the course of many years.

Ken Masters being in is surely false. Some are saying it's a mistranslation and they're actually talking about someone new named "Ben". In PSM Ed Boon jokingly said Ken would be in.....but he also said the Easter Bunny would be in.

It is both controversial and influential. It, along with DOOM and Night Trap, started the whole "violence in games" debate which is still relevant today, a decade later. It also brought about the formation of the ESRB which is still around. On a lesser scale it influenced a ton of fighting games. WTF? Of what? Super Mario RPG? I don't like Mario RPG and I own like 30 different versions of Street Fighter(and I mean that literally)....bias against SF or for Mario RPG has nothing to do with it. I don't care because it's just a Gamefaqs popularity contest and someone thinking Mario RPG > SF II is not all that outlandish or horrible. This doesn't even make sense. I'm a fangirl because I don't get upset over my favorite games losing a Gamefaqs poll.....right... Yeah. What's your point?
