Announced Round By Round scoring in MMA

I remember Silva/Arona 2 being pretty close. What I think caused the judges to sway, is Arona pulled guard in the final minute. Normally PRIDE judges wouldn't mind that, but in the final minute of the main event for the title, I think they didn't like that move at all. It showed a severe lack of wanting to win, and just to get the decision. If I remember, the result was pretty much razor thin too. That was probably the deciding factor. On Ninja/Dan...that fight is awesome. Dan was the *KING* of the final round come around. He beat the fuck out of Ninja in that final round, and finished far stronger then Ninja did. Regardless of who won, I think that was one of the first PRIDE cards I saw (Started with...16 I think), and it was awesome.

Yes. Yes it does. Core gamers are, and really haven't ever been the target of the Wii. They've made this abundantly clear in the last few E3's. As long as they can sell to casual gamers, Nintendo is going to be the #1 console of this generation. We don't really count to them anymore. And I say that as a Wii owner, who can't find games I like on any console. We don't *matter* to Nintendo. They've got their business model, and it's been working.

Here's the difference. Here's the BIG differences. Those guys are no ones. They get paid nothing to fight in UFC. No one knows who the fuck they are. I don't know why Dana employs them. They are not good fighters. That's Dana's business. Rampage is paid at least HALF A MILLION per fight. He was the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion. He is the one who dethroned Chuck Liddell. People *KNOW* Rampage. He's been on bunch of talk shows. He's done PR for UFC. He's been one of the faces of the UFC for a year now. Rampage at the MIDDLE OF THE DAY, acted completely insane and hit multiple targets while completely ignoring the police. Not to mention the possibility that he could have *KILLED SOMEONE* since at one point he was driving on the goddamn sidewalk. And apparently he was NOT inebriated which is completely mind boggling. This will likely be a media circus. The media is going to pick up on this at some point, and likely have a field day with the "CHAMPION CAGE FIGHTER GOES INSANE" tag lines. Rampage has *THREE* felony counts against him. You cannot just brush this off like it's nothing. Regardless of what UFC does, I sincerely doubt Rampage fights another fight for the rest of this year. He could get his license suspended for this, regardless of what UFC does or doesn't do. He fucked up *BAD*.

I've always been an Animal Crossing fan, personally. Fun to just play and do random stuff in. The problem is, the game's requirements are nuts. If you don't play for a day or two, the entire game world could fall apart, and EVERY villager will be *PISSED* at you. I'd end up giving up on entire games because I wasn't able to play for a day or two.

I honestly don't know what the fuck UFC should do here. From a business perspective it'd be a horrible idea to release Rampage. But from a public relations standpoint, how do you not? Dana's on record about "thugs" like Kimbo, and now one of his stars just got ARRESTED with GUNS pulled on him. If UFC does nothing, or just slaps Rampage's wrist this could be a huge issue with the media. The media doesn't exactly look on MMA fighters with shining light. Rampage just proved them right. A star MMA fighter, who was just a champion of the world a few days ago hit people, ran from the scene of the crime, and led police on a chase. I don't think in any case UFC will touch him booking wise until this is settled, whatever the end result is. He regardless of the charges, Rampage won't be fighting for quite some time, be it in UFC or elsewhere. He broke his promise of never taking nine months off again.

Good way to put your career on hold. Seriously, what the fuck was Rampage thinking? He hit and ran...and then led the police on a CHASE? Not only is it bad for him, but I can see people turning this around and saying that MMA fighters are "criminals" and all that. He was just LHW champion after all.

All these games G4 are profiling from E3 look exactly the same with different visuals and styles of play.. Walk around. Shoot things. Run a little bit. Shoot more things. Throw a grenade. Kill some more. Maybe throw in a big monster. Kill more stuff. Maybe something cinematic happens. Kill more stuff. Maybe it's because I was a PC gamer years ago, but I've DONE all this FPS bullshit before. It's the same hat, just with prettier visuals. Stuff like Gears of War doesn't interest me, because it's just a third person variation of this same formula. It boils down to the mindless massacre of enemies. Everything is the *SAME*. How long has it been like this? Forever and I'm just now realizing it? Didn't there used to be variation in games? Why is everything EXACTLY the same with the same "gritty realistic" setting?

Reelviews is the critic I read and trust the most. So him giving it ****, his highest grade and all the praise he did is pretty amazing. He doesn't give out that grade very often. He flat out calls the movie possibly the greatest since ROTK. That's some high praise.

I've never really been able to see much Max, but what I have I liked. For me, it's not so much the fighting in K-1 I like, although I do, but the drama. Everyone fights each other quite often. People have FEUDS~!. I can only imagine the hype K-1 would do if Ruslan and Hari ended up fighting again in the elimination GP or the GP itself. They have history to play off of. That's what I like. There's also the fact that it's so unlike Boxing or MMA. In K-1, if you win the GP...then for that year? You *ARE* the best in the world. K-1's the only Kickboxing league that truly matters, and whoever wins, is the greatest. You don't get that in the other sports. But now that you mention it, Karaev didn't exactly get hit much in the GP. Maybe that's his new strategy. He bulked up, and retained his speed with the goal of overwhelming the opponent with power and speed so they can't retaliate? Seemed to work here. Simple punches were rocking everyone, let alone the massive power shot combos he was throwing. High Kick > Spinning Back Kick > Left Hook > Left Hook = Other dude grabs onto Ruslan for DEAR LIFE.

Final Fantasy VII being remade would be one of the biggest releases of this decade. That's how beloved that game is. It's also a pretty good game on top of being revolutionary, and the first super big release of it's kind. We're talking money. Mooooney.

I dunno when the show was, but I just got done watching K-1 WGP in Taipei. So K-1 discussion time~! Ruslan Karaev looked like a MONSTER in this tournament. I don't remember him being that big, but he looked gigantic. Just stacked with muscles. He seemed like Badr Hari before, but he's bulked up significantly now. He mowed through all his tournament fights, and damn near killed Tomihira and Pitchkounov. I was incredibly impressed with his showing. He could now be one of the dark horses of the tournament given how well he did here. I know I've said it before, but I ADORE K-1's tournament format. It's so much fun to follow. Let alone that for my money, the WGP Finals every year is the best combat event of the year.

    UFN - Silva vs. Irvin

This card is a fucking landmine of potential mishaps. For one, it won't affect Affliction's Buyrate at all. There's a thing called DVR now, not to mention replays. People will see both regardless. And for a die hard, who the *fuck* would pass up Affliction for this? Catch the main, skip just about everything else. Stupid idea. For two, there are too many possibilities. It is highly, highly unlikely that Irvin can beat Silva...but what if he can? What the HELL do you do if he can? It would have been much smarter to give Silva a more known opponent. Irvin has gotten 100% lucky one shot KO's before. Lets not forget that the guy broke into a dead run at the beginning of a round before and clocked the opponent with a flying knee. He's not good but he's potentially dangerous. Stupid and dangerous. What if Brandon Vera loses? He just fought like two months ago. That's very high turn around for UFC. It's also his first fight at LHW, and their giving him someone who no one knows. Even if this Reese guy has no shot, it's still bad booking. and finally, why the *HELL* would you put Jake O'Brien on the main card against a guy you want to groom for the top? If I'm not mistaken, Cain's a high level wrestler too, which means one of them is going to be negated. And given how O'Brien's strategy in all UFC fights thus far has been to shut down opponents and take the decision, I'd vote on him. This is what happens when you plan an entire show around fucking someone over. Lazy booking, and illthought out matches result. I sincerely doubt any upsets will happen, but man they'd be fun to watch take place.

    UFN - Silva vs. Irvin

I'm rooting for Irvin. Not because I dislike Silva, but because I love anarchy. I want to see what the hell UFC does if Silva loses in the main event on a free show in a new weightclass against Affliction. It'll be a fun fight, however long it lasts. Silva should beat Irvin comfortably, but Irvin has some serious striking power. There's always that chance. As for the rest of the show...eh. Jake O'Brien is no fucking buys though, that's for sure.

UFC 87 - Seek and Destroy

If Brock stops Herring by strikes, I will be absolutely shocked. Say what you will, but the only time I've ever seen him stopped by strikes was Mirko. Mirko was at the top of his game, Herring was at his worst, and Mirko just nailed him in the liver and Herring's body shut down. Herring had the absolute worst gameplan I've ever seen for that fight. Otherwise, like Curry said, Fedor couldn't even stop Herring. The man may fight like a box of bricks, but he is goddamn *TOUGH*. He's hard to slow down from his "pace", he's damn near impossible to stop by strikes, and he seemingly doesn't understand the idea of giving up. He's not a great fighter. He had potential to be one day, but he's still tough as nails. Brock's going to get Herring down. No question. It's just how it proceeds from there. Herring has pretty good scrambling abilities (Kind of a shittier, heavier Liddell in that respect), so the more Brock tries to do the more opportunities Herring will have to scramble. In the O'Brien fight, JOB (as we seemingly call him now) didn't give him ANYTHING and just laid on him. If Brock does that I'll be shocked. He strikes me as too intense, too motivated to win to just eek out a decision. I see Brock doing what he did against Mir. Get on top and rain blows. With Herring the odds of a knee bar are so astronomically low that I don't think Brock will be afraid. His goal wll be to KILL Herring. If Brock can stop Herring with strikes, then Brock's going to be a killer. The type of stuff that it'd take to put Herring out would take out pretty much anyone in the Heavyweight ranks.

Announced Round By Round scoring in MMA

I'm a PRIDE fanboy, but there were only a few fights in PRIDE that I saw a decision for that I felt was very wrong. The two most people bring up are Arona/Silva II and Nog/Ricco but both can be defended under the critera PRIDE judges looked at. PRIDE judges looked for everything judging in America did, but they didn't favor the Takedown half as much (I believe they just considered it a "change of positions" or something to that affect) and looked more on what happened once there. So unless your opponent did *nothing*, then taking down someone and holding them didn't work too well in PRIDE usually. And like Curry said, an attempt to finish a fight meant alot. Be it strikes or a close submission, a couple of them would help someone win significantly. There was also the fact that the fight as a whole was judged. Dan Henderson made it his trademark..."lose" rounds 1 and 2, and then come out like a bat out of hell for round three and win the fight due to fighting so well. People like to mention "Biasness" in PRIDE, but the judges were usually very fair. It was the fucking refs (Shimoda~!) who were inherently biased against anyone not Japanese. Time to get off my soap box... I really didn't understand the point of this thread until others clarified it. This is a horrible idea. The reason being, that if they KNOW they won rounds 1 and 2, then 90% of fighters in UFC won't go a goddamn thing in the final round. It'll be like an inverse Machida. He does just enough to win the first two rounds, and then makes sure he wins round three. Fighters will fight like hell for two rounds, and then just...coast for the final round. And the final round is supposed to be the most important. You'd be giving fighters passes and you'd see *ALOT* of shitty decisions. The 10-9 format as it is encourages decisions. All you got to do is fight like hell for ten minutes out of fifteen and you win. If anyone actually goes out to win, it's due to their own mentality and not what's encouraged.

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

What an illogical statement. Most of the experts on MMA said Forrest won the fight or it was a draw. I'll take their opinion over "six fans". I mean, is that the BEST you can do to say Rampage won that fight? That "show any six fans this fight and five out of six will say Rampage won"? Seriously? Most MMA fans are as bad as pro-wrestling marks. I wouldn't trust any kind of serious logical determination to them by a mile. Most of that fight was a kickboxing fight, and under K-1, Forrest wins that fight hands down. He landed more. He did more. He injured Rampage. he flat out outhustled Rampage throughout the fight with only round four being the exception. Had Rampage not gotten the knockdown in Rd1, then Forrest wins THAT round too. If this is what the issue has devolved into, then this "controversy" is as idiotic as I perceived it to be.

Losing to Heath Herring won't hurt Brock. It might even be a step up in competition for him compared to Mir. Hard to say really. Now, had he lost to Mark Coleman? That'd have hurt. Herring was once considered a top HW in the sport, and still is a very tough scrappy bastard. He's not that talented, but he's strong and tough and gets by with what he has. Herring has beaten top wrestlers before, but against Jake O'Brien he was hugged for the entire fight. Herring claims he had a knee issue, but who knows. Fighters make excuses. I'm picking Herring. I don't think Brock is going to just lay on Herring. He's too high intensity and aggressive for that. I think Brock attempting to kill him on the ground will let Herring scramble up. On their feet, it's a wild card, but Herring combines Rocky-like toughness and some decent skill to good success. I strongly believe he'll test Brock's chin at some point. He'll either KO/TKO Brock, or Brock will win the decision. Due to Brock's lack of experience, I'm picking KO/TKO possibly from something Brock's never faced like a head kick. And no. Brock wants money. UFC's where you go to make money these days. Japan years ago would have been the place, but the entire industry there is down.

The fact that Shogun retore his knee during training is an incredibly bad sign. As someone who has a bum knee, I can attest that it never really heals. It'll always be a problem for him, and if it can re-tear during training, then I find it doubtful he'll ever be the same fighter again. At best, he'll have to retool his style to work around it. At worst, he'll have to retire due to it continually re-tearing.

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

I rewatched the fight, and I jotted down my thoughts on each round. As unreliable as these are, here's what I got. Round One: Forrest dominates round until the knockdown, but shows no ill effects of knockdown, and avoids major damage. Despite dominating to that point, by normal MMA logic, Rampage 10-9. Round Two: All Forrest. Rampage lands nothing. Forrest damages his leg, lands several knee strikes, gets a takedown, and dominates on the ground. Due to the fact that Rampage doesn't even land one punch. 10-8 Forrest. Round Three: Rampage hits with significantly more power, but Forrest lands significantly more shots (yes, low kicks DO COUNT), and is the aggressor throughout the round. The best you can give Rampage is a draw round, but I do not see it. 10-9 Forrest. Round Four: Rampage lands significantly more punches in this round, and gets a takedown. Forrest gets a close submission, but it's not enough to counter Rampage's success in this round with his aggression. Rampage 10-9. Going into final round, Rampage needs 10-9 to tie, and 10-8 to win. Round Five: Both men land roughly the same amount of shots, but I'd give the slight edge to Forrest due to his low kick almost always connecting. Rampage throws with much more force, while Forrest is the more aggressive fighter and keeps the pressure on. This could be 10-10...but on the basis of Forrest landing more, and being the aggressor, I give it. 10-9 Forrest. Final tally: 48-46 - Forrest Griffin. If I had to guess about why there's such a controversy, it's because Rampage hits SO MUCH HARDER then Forrest did, that it makes people think Rampage won the exchanges when one hit sent Forrest scrambling. However, that is not the case. Throughout the fight, Forrest lands more, and continually goes back to the leg. When Rampage does hit, it's got awesome power, but he lacks aggression throughout the fight (Round 4 is an alteration of that), which Griffin uses. If Rampage hadn't hit the uppercut in Round One, this could have very well been 48-45 in Forrest's favor.
  23. Hawkius Maximus

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

It's hard to say what Forrest will do as champ. Since he hooked up with Xtreme Couture, the guy has been *awesome*. When you have no discernible "top skill", it's amazing to be able to defeat people with high level skills. Forrest just flat out out-hustles people in fights. Right now, the only fight at LHW that makes sense for UFC is Lyoto Machida, and regardless if he was joking or not, Forrest is on record as saying he does *not* want to face Machida. Everyone else only has a win, lost their last one, or are on some kind of slide in the LHW division. If Liddell can drop Rashad, you can do that...or if Silva wins next time out, you can do that, but in Rampage's case, he flat out said he will never wait this long to fight again. I wonder if Forrest will wait long enough to get a top contender himself. Waiting nine months or so to fight HAS to suck. Time off to heal and train, but you get rusty from not having an actual fight. Forrest is an intriguing champion, because there's no real "aura" around him, so to speak. It's fully believable that he could face just about any of the top LHW's and lose. It's just who he is as a fighter.
  24. Hawkius Maximus

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

Unless you can go back and count every single punch of BOTH men, and explain to me why Rampage "Definitively" won round three, then I take you saying he won that round with a grain of salt. And even if you CAN, what bearing does that have when MMA is about more then just who lands more? MMA doesn't work that way. Neither man pulled ahead in three and five, and both landed significant shots (and whiffed on them as well). On a round like that, it is akin to a 50/50 shot on who won the round. And even if Rampage did somehow win that round, the fact that Forrest damn near ripped Rampage's leg off, and beat on him throughout round two is justifiably enough to give him a 10-8 in Round two. If he did, then they DRAW because they'd both have the same score. You *cannot* honestly tell me one person won that fight with any significant margin of error.
  25. Hawkius Maximus

    UFC 86: Jackson vs Griffin

How the hell is there controversy? Rampage's leg was broken. He admitted this post-fight because of Griffin's leg kicks. Griffin also came the closest to winning the fight with that triangle. Granted, he released it out of pure horror in the air, but he still came close with it. When the loser *admits* they lost the fight, there is no controversy. I really don't know what fight you and Dama saw to say Rampage won the fight. Neither man definitively won anything. Rounds three and five were absolutely too close to call, and I *know* Forrest won round two enough to have two judges give him 10-8 on it.
