They better put that match below something with drawing power, because Nog/Werdum 2 isn't gonna draw anything. Nogueira might be able to draw, but Werdum means nothing right now. Plus, the fact that Werdum's only gone 1-1 in UFC and is getting a title shot seems odd to me.

Japan hasn't really ever forgotten about the NWA. Japan remembers them, so NJPW should get mileage out of this. NJPW will likely bring in the NWA champ a few times, and use them for cheap gaijins while sending their guys to do NWA shows in order to get TV exposure on NWA's new show. If the NWA champ was Danielson or someone, this would have HUGE benefits as Danielson is known in Japan, and could do alot in NJPW, but Adam Pierce isn't going to do anything in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if NJPW got the NWA title or the NWA Junior title, more or less to go "HEY! WE'VE GOT THE NWA TITLES! GO US!".

I couldn't quite make it out, but it almost sounds like Austin starts cutting a promo when the camera's on him.

I didn't like Man Up anywhere near as much as other people online did, so I'll get that statement out of the way. That may change what people think of my opinion of this show. I thought the last PPV was alright. Middling, really. The opener with Age of the Fall and Vulture Squad was okay. ROH did a horrible job with the cuts everytime they had Age of the Fall on. They'd cut to footage, or some other BS with different colors on the screen and it was just un-nerving and jarring. Not in a "These guys are cool" type of way, but as in a "this is retarded" way. They did a very weak job of explaining what Age of the Fall are rebelling against as well. As for the match, Ruckus was...bad. There's something to be said for being WAY too spotty and when you are worse then Jack Evans, that says something. Not a bad match though. Bryan Danielson and Chris Hero was fun as all hell. Hero was using his spots as a way to mock Danielson, while Danielson just completely stretched and beat him. Danielson isn't capable of a bad match. Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong was meh. I don't care for either guy, but it wasn't bad. The Brainbuster from the Apron through a table to the floor was goddamn retarded though. Hangmen vs. Delirious, Steen, and Generico was a fun six man. The Hangmen are bland as hell, but it was a fun six man. Nothing really GREAT, but a good formulaic six man that ROH PPV's need a bit more of. Matches need more FORM then just a bunch of guys hitting the biggest moves they can think of for twenty minutes. Briscoes vs. Romero and Richards was actually tame for Briscoes standards, which made it pretty good. They didn't go insane with spots or killing each other and actually had a good match. As a joke, my friend and I began to count headdrops thinking a Briscoe's match would hit double digits. We only made it to like...six, which is a drastic downturn. Then they did the whacky cutting crap with AOTF some more which killed it for me. Jimmy Jacobs looks like some kind of mad hatter on an acid trick. Doesn't work for me. The main event was ridiculous. We continued the game from earlier, where we counted the "rebounds" from Nigel, and Lariats. The number was idiotically high. Nigel did somewhere around TWELVE of his "rebound" spots off the ropes, and there were like...seventeen+ lariats in the match. By the end, we just started *LAUGHING* at the absurdity of it all. Morishima in ROH hasn't worked for me since the first match I saw with him in ROH, and this wasn't that much better, which is odd, because Morishima is fantastic in NOAH. It pretty much showed that Danielson was the reason these two had such great matches last year with him. Nigel is really a joke at this point with his "Jawbreaker Lariat" not only being a contrived as hell move, but him having to do it SO MANY TIMES to beat Morishima was just complete and total overkill. If you ignored the stupidity, then maybe a *** match. It's hard to have a BAD ten dollar ROH show, but they've never come close to the overall greatness of Driven for me.

Ortiz/Machida is risky. For both UFC and Tito. Machida has all the talent to take Tito apart. For that reason, it's a risky fight for him to take. He could very realistically get his ass kicked badly. On the flipside, it's double risky for UFC. If Tito wins the fight, and then says he's leaving then UFC just promoted him and handed him to another group. And if Machida wins, then UFC will have to give him a title shot which is a nightmare scenario at this point. Machida hasn't shown any weaknesses whatsoever in any of his UFC fights, and could be a threat to take the title. With how they've promoted him, and his methodical style, that is bad for UFC's sign board division. -

Yoshida/Barnett goes to a decision. Neither is going to be able to finish each other. Barnett won't be able to tap Yoshida, and he won't be able to KO him either. Yoshida gets absolutely no respect online, but the guy is fucking TOUGH. He's taken massive ass beatings, and keeps coming back. That James Thompson fight that Curry mentions, he doesn't mention that it was Yoshida's first fight back from having his knee ripped apart by Mirko Cro Cop's leg kicks (Where Yoshida actually motioned for Mirko to kick him in the HEAD and not his repaired knee), and even with the ungodly size difference, it still took Thompson several minutes of straight assbeating to kill Yoshida. He's too STUPID to die. The fact that Yoshida basically runs WVR and set this fight up earns my respect. Dude isn't afraid of anyone. -
Mirko would most likely kill Brock dead. You are forgetting that Mirko isn't just a kicker. He'd knee Brock in the face the second he shooted, and either KO him, or destroy his face OR make him bleed. He'd do exactly what he did to Fujita which happened BEFORE Mirko gained any real MMA skills. God forbid if Mirko manages to avoid the takedown. Brock needs to build. Not fight someone who was in the top three just a year ago. Just because Mirko's on the downturn doesn't mean that if he kept fighting he wouldn't peak again. In the age of Randy fucking Couture, you can't count anyone out. I think my TV idea is the best way to go. And if Brock were to lose, you could try to build that person into a star.

This soundtrack is fucking NUTS. I'm grabbing the torrent, but the song I'm hearing are fucking awesome. The Mario re-arrangments are all good, and I MARKED when I saw Rainbow Road's and TETRIS themes. I cannot wait to play this game, and I don't even HAVE a Wii.

The best thing Brock can do, is find someone with high level BJJ and train with them almost exclusively, with his power-based training. If Brock can learn submissions and how to avoid them, or god forbid lock them in, look out. He really doesn't have to worry about his standup, because there's no one in the UFC HW division he won't be able to take down. Someone like Sylvia has size, and a good sprawl, but Brock's 280+ pounds of solid muscle flying at you for a takedown. No one will stop that. However, with what little we saw he knocked Mir on his ass with basically a JAB. That's insane power.
-
I think the best idea would be to give Brock a mid-level fighter, and put him on the main event of a Fight Night or special. People would tune in for free to see Brock fight. He'd most likely smash a mid-level fighter, and then you can put him back in the hunt.

This Superbowl pre-show is fucking pathetic. I've had it muted, and it still may be some of the worst TV I've seen in some time.

If they give Brock six months or so to hardcore train before his next fight, who knows what'll happen. What I do know, is Brock talked about losing a National Championship match in College, and he told himself that would never happen again, and he became a steamroller due to never wanting to feel that feeling again. The same thing is going to happen now. They showed Brock in the back at the tail end of the PPV, and he was disapointed, and looked like he was almost about to cry...My bet is, Brock's going to say that he never wants to feel that feeling again ever and it's going to click in that next drive in his head. God save whoever is his next opponent if he starts training with that mindset.
-
I think part of it was Brock freaked out. He's never been in that position. It's a totally different beast from training to having someone actually apply a knee bar like that. He probably thought "I don't know what to do!" and then realized that he could have a broken leg if he stayed in it, and just tapped out. You could tell Mir had been in one hell of a two minute beating though.
-
Brock looked really good for the short time it lasted. He avoided a jujigatame, he floated in and out of position with ease, AND he dropped Mir with a shot. You just can't train for every aspect and be fantastic immediately. Brock lost nothing by this loss.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Even though I don't have a Wii...) and even though it could suck, Fallout 3. Nothing else really registers to me.

If Mir doesn't catch Brock with a submission in the first round, he's going to take a fucking assbeating. Having watched the hype show and the All Access, I'm pretty sure about that. The only thing we didn't get a good look at was Brock's training in submissions. If he's lax there, Mir could catch him. My official pick is still Mir, Rd 1, Submission...but if he can't pull that off, Brock's just gonna lay on him and deliver a slow, methodical murderizing beating. As for Timbo vs. Nog...I'm going with the doomsday prediction. Sylvia, UD, where he SOMEHOW drags Nogueria to a boring, boring fight.

...that Tecmo Superbowl game may end up being better then the actual Superbowl. That was awesome.

UFC 82: Pride of A Champion

Lets not forget that standing, Henderson has some lethal power as well with his punches. I'm not saying he'll KO Silva, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he could nail Anderson during a barrage. In his recent fights, this'll be the most dangerous stand up fighter Silva's faced. Henderson has really good power, and pretty decent form. He could nail him. People really underestimate the power Henderson has until they suddenly remember when he nails someone with a huge shot. -

Dan Henderson's coming off a KO victory over Wanderlai Silva, and a decision loss to Rampage where the only real reason he lost was due to Rampage's sheer size and power. If it goes to a decision, Henderson wins it. Henderson has a knack for doing just enough to look good, and then turn it up in later rounds. Silva just looks to finish. If I had to guess, I'd say Silva wins rounds one and two and has Henderson on the ropes a few times, but Henderson doesn't really do much but weather the storm, before coming back strong to win three, four, and five when or if Silva begins to tire from his assault. That'd be my guess. Henderson's only done that like...twenty times. -
...It looks like their STILL unlocking people in those screens. That roster is pretty massive.

I managed to avoid spoilers, to download this until the last few hours when I could watch it. I am so fucking glad I managed to avoid spoilers. That was a fantastic PPV that moved all the storylines ahead. And John Cena coming out? Easily one of the biggest mark outs I'VE ever had, and I'm an elitist fucker. I freaked out.

I love the strawman argument here. You are discounting Brock because he's a pro-wrestler, while at the same time mocking those who think he can win. The fact is, you *CAN* be a pro-wrestler and have a successful MMA career. Most Pro-Wrestlers try to do both in Japan and fail. But at the same time, are we forgetting that the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba was a pro-wrestler first, MMA fighter second? It can be done with enough time, training, and effort. Brock has all the credentials in the world to be a great MMA fighter. Discounting, or mocking him and those that think he can win because he was a pro-wrestler is elitist, and quite frankly a little idiotic.
-
If Brock doesn't get submitted, or gasses (Which I went on record earlier about) he'll win the fight. I seriously doubt a Frank Mir punch is going to KO Brock, unless he's drastically upped his power and technique. Maybe if he caught Brock shooting in, but I think he'd be much more worried about stopping the 265+ pound bullet shooting at him then trying to knee him. I can see Brock immediately shooting in, taking Mir down, and Mir getting an armbar...but at the same time, Brock has serious power and could pull a Sapp and just slam his way out of it. Who knows? Brock's been training for some time now...by now he HAS to know how to escape submissions, and how to box at the very least a defensive level. Brock is easily the biggest X factor in MMA. What if Brock knows how to strike now? How many people could stand up to a Brock Lesnar cross? What if he knows how to get submissions? Could you imagine trying to break free of a Brock Lesnar Kimura or Keylock? How the hell would you escape with his power combined with his ground positioning? I still think it's most likely that Mir wins the fight due to experience, but if he doesn't get Brock quick, who knows what'll happen. I can't see Mir not gassing from Brock on top of him for three rounds though. The longer Brock has top position, the quicker Mir gasses. Mir's never had a good gas tank, and having a gigantic fucking 265 (He'll probably fight around 270 or so, since he cuts) laying on him for a round will kill his cardio fast.

What a boring show. Outside of Diaz and maybe "batman" no one came out of this show looking any better. I'd say just about everyone else came out looking worse for their efforts.

Dana White latches onto ANYONE with strong competitive athletic ability. Bobby Lashley fits that mold. He also has name value within our circles. Not the greatest, but it's another guy White can say was some form of world champion to further suck in the Pro-Wrestling audience, which is what his goal is with Brock Lesnar. It makes perfect logical sense.
