UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008
Hawkius Maximus replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I was completely wrong with Silva/Rampage. What can ya do. Bryan Alvarez had a good point (for once) in the F4D/WO.com recap show , where he summed it up that Nog and Silva have taken so much abuse that their levels were finally shown after all they had taken. Meltzer expanded upon it with how PRIDE fights went, the mentality over there, and how often they'd fight. It was a sad day, really. Five years ago, that shot wouldn't have KO'd Silva...but now, he's older, he's taken so much abuse, and his chin's going. T'was all it took. Nog looked even worse though. I wonder if he came in injured...or if he just...locked up in the fight. He didn't do anything. And while Mir kept using the same combination over and over, it worked every time so why change it up? Mir fought smart. Didn't blow himself up, didn't expose himself, he did exactly what he needed to do to win. Good for him. Regardless if you like Frank Mir, or if you like Brock Lesnar, their rematch will most likely be the second one million buys PPV in UFC history. If not even bigger then Brock/Randy was. Given that Mir can cut a much better promo then Randy can, and that both understand promotion (Witness Mir IMMEDIATELY go to Brock, The man gets it) they will be doing everything they can themselves for that fight. The promotion will be amazing. On the main event, I predicted Forrest (I believe), and I'm not sure why. As the fight went on, two things became really clear. 1) Forrest has much more technical striking 2) Rashad has much better footwork, much better speed, and much more power Forrest was scoring, but he doesn't have "finishing" power. His blows hurt, but it wasn't doing much to finish Rashad. While, every punch Rashad threw or landed had legitimate one hit KO power due to the velocity and power. You can't underestimate that speed. He is *FAST AS FUCK*. Rashad's Ground & Pound was fucking terrifying. Forrest was barely alive from the hammer blows which with any normal fighter wouldn't have been that strong, but with Rashad it was like litterally hammers being slammed into his face. And once Rashad began with the finishing blows, Forrest was done. He took FAR, FAR too many late punches. He couldn't escape, Rashad's hitting him with as much power as he can, and Forrest's body is just...flailing. That's ignoring the "tap". You can't ignore Rashad anymore. You can't underestimate him anymore. He is legitimately the #1 LHW in the world now. Undefeated at that. Rashad built up a reputation as a boring fighter who goes to decisions...but he's not that guy anymore. He's not even the same guy he was a year ago against Bisping. He's finally fully tapping into his natural athletic talents which are MASSIVE, and woe to whoever gets in his way six months from now when he's even more refined. -
Yeah, it was bad timing trying to sell a Wii now...But like I said, some sudden stuff hit. Thus far, I haven't gotten any bids on the system on Ebay. If it doesn't sell, I'll keep you in mind.

This is purely a financial move. I thought I'd see if anyone was interested here before I go to the ole Ebay. I've been thinking of doing this for awhile, but recent sudden costs have kind of forced my hand. The system is pretty new. I got it brand new on Ebay last May as a Birthday present for myself. There is one catch, I can't seem to find the manual or any of the other documents that came with the system. All cords and such are there, but I can't seem to find those documents. If I do, I'd send them out at my own cost whenever it should happen. I'm looking to offload all of this in one go, but I'm flexible. Here's the full tally of what I'm dropping. 1 Wii System with all cords, sensor bar, yadda yadda. Wii Sports included. 2 Wiimotes 1 Wii Nunchuck 1 Wave Bird controller (I believe these aren't made anymore, but I don't know what they'd go for on Ebay) 1 Regular Gamecube Controller 1 Wii Internet Adapter (You can just plug Ethernet into it like you would for the Xbox 360 instead of using WiFi) 1 Super Smash Brothers Brawl I'm not sure how it works, but the system *should* come with the Internet Channel already paid for, and a virtual console Super Mario 64. I'm not including those above, because I'm not 100% sure if those will be there after I delete my information from the system upon selling it. I would assume so, but...who knows. I also have a few Gamecube games I could include, but I don't think there'd be much of a demand for them, so I'm not listing them above. If you're interested, hit me up with a PM. I'm looking for a minimum of 200 for the entire package, aiming for about 250-300. If I don't get any hits in a day or so, I'll move to Ebay where I'm fairly certain I'll get interest.

The countdown special was really good. They played both Rashad and Forrest as nice guys. On the flipside, while they had common stories, Mir came off as a total douche heel to Nog. The Silva/Rampage stuff was the best though. I never knew Silva was so charismatic. He had one liners in nearly every scene he was in and he seemed to genuinely enjoy the concept of hurting Rampage again. "He knock me down first round. Second round I come out to KILL HIM." Adding "Again" to all his statements at the end just to taunt the fact that he beat Rampage twice. A line about using his forearm with it's tattoo about god, and "tattooing" it onto Rampage's face. Oh, and several times reiterating "I don't like him". The best was how he gave play by play for the second fight...and how he kneed Rampage, and then he did a double take because Rampage was dead in the ropes. -
Affliction: Day of Reckoning

Gilbert Yvel is not licensed. Meltzer called it a rumor, but he's got hearings coming up to get licensed. Not sure if everyone knew, but it was first I heard that he wasn't. -
...Because it's fucking hilarious? I mean, did you have a problem when Dos Caras Jr. fights with his mask on?! It's tradition! The more disturbing factoid other then the mask, or the identity, is the size difference. Sapp's got quite a bit on this little fellow.

I'm with Lei here. Not so sure I'd say Gonzaga will win 100% for sure, but it's impossible to say how Carwin will do. Everyone he's fought has folded against him due to his power. Gonzaga's brutally strong himself. He's got KO power standing, and world class ground skills. On paper, Carwin has nothing over Gonzaga except aggression. This will be a pretty insane leap of competition for Mr. Carwin. I can't say he won't win, but I can't say he will either. I'd side with Gonzaga before I did Carwin though.

It's about to die. When you start getting weird errors like that, it means the 360's on it's last legs. Eventually, you'll turn it on one day and it'll be dead. I know this having gone through two RROD's so far.

UFC 95 Sanchez vs. Stevenson
Hawkius Maximus replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I'm pretty sure Dave Meltzer said that Anderson Silva flat out is refusing to fight on the UK show. So either he got his info wrong (which is pretty rare), or they threw an assload of money at Silva then he's not gonna be on it. Meltzer tried to think of what fight they could put on to main event the show, and couldn't think of anything. So it's possible UFC threw money at Silva. They don't really have anything else right now. -
I've seen alot of people saying Hari shouldn't be booked, or should be suspended for a year for his actions. It's a fine idea in theory for the "sanctity of the sport"...but that's just not how it goes. Badr Hari has gotten an insane amount of press for what he's done. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad. He's got people talking. And in Japan, that's what they desperately need right now. People talking about him means they might tune in to see him fight. And goddamn do they need ratings. Hell, even Satoshi Ishii, who most thought could possibily be the savior of Japanese MMA when he debuts has announced that he has no interest in fighting in Japan. Talk about a crippling blow.
-
K-1 actually punished Hari. - Loses all his fight money from the event, so he doesn't get a dime. - Loses his status as a finalist of the tournament, which I believe means he'll have to qualify for next years through a tournament. Usually the final eight have a pass to the Elimination round. Not Hari it seems. - Has been stripped of the K-1 Heavyweight Championship And they are apparently going to discuss having a new rule, that if you are DQ'd in a fight, you are automatically suspended.
-
Regardless if Remy milked it or not, he already had the fight won. Remy Bonjasky in pure talent is clearly in the top three in K-1. He was already up 10-8 on Hari over three rounds. The only chances Hari would have possibly had is to get a KD on Remy which I think I can count on my fingers how many times I've ever seen anyone accomplish that (I don't really think I've EVER seen it since I started following K-1 about three years ago), or win both next rounds and get a extra round. Virtually impossibile to do as well. Hari knew that too. He knew due to being knocked down with what amounted to a jab that he didn't have a realistic shot at winning anymore. Which is why he threw a temper tantrum. Anywhere else but the GP Finals, and Hari would have been DQ'd immediately. If I'm Remy Bonjasky and Hari just *GIVES* me the win, why do I fight? For the "love of it"? To "Be a warrior"? Fuck that. Fighting's a business. You take what you can get. The fact that K-1's keeping Hari off NYE, probably shows that they are *NOT* happy with him. Everyone theorized that it'd be turned into an angle, but Meltzer reported that the K-1 President basically said that he was going to severely punish Hari for his actions. Who knows.

As I said before, I don't see why Rampage/Silva would go any different. Unless you really believe that Silva being off the gas (if he ever was...but he probably was) will make that big of a difference. Neither of their styles have changed much, AND Rampage is coming off his mental well being completely being destroyed. I could always be wrong, but really, history sides with my position on this. -

I second Curry's "Death" prediction. I, however, think Mir will atleast make it till round three. I think he'll be able to keep himself alive on the ground, and I don't think Nog will KO Mir but he could definitely hurt him. I think what will end up killing Mir will be his gas tank. Nog never stops. Mir...well...does. And I will second the Forrest DEC prediction. -
If your PC can handle it, get Fallout 3 on the PC hands down. Long after Bethesda turns their back, the Fallout fanboys will keep the game going with mods. They've already discussed plans to completely remake Fallout 3 into Fallout 2 or other insane total conversion mods. With the GECK released, it's only a matter of time. I wish I had a PC capable of running it.

Jesus christ people. Am I the only one who DOESN'T wanna see that man's leg bend in a way it's not supposed to? Unfuckingsettling this thread has become. -
This...angers me. Holmgren made it no secret that this would be his last season. He was heavily hinting last season as well. The Seahawks go ahead and give Jim Mora Jr. the next HC job in the wake of this...Yet Holmgren makes this decision and the Seahawks are supposed to go back on Jim Mora and give it to Holmgren, who will probably retire the very next season? Let’s say we say "Fuck Jim Mora!" and keep Holmgren. Mora leaves (or possibly sues over breach of contract), Holmgren gives us a less then spectacular season, and then leaves. Now Seattle has no head coach. A disillusioned team. And an even more pissed off fanbase. And further, let’s assume this took place during the season. Why the *FUCK* would the Seahawks management give him another season? WE ARE 2-11. And every season since 2005 has been a steady decline leading to this freefall. This isn't even a Brett Farve issue, because atleast Farve had a good season on his way out. Holmgren has given us the worst record Seattle's had since 1992. Sixteen years. I think at some point after 2005, Holmgren lost the team. I dunno where. I dunno why. But I've had the feeling for awhile that they just don't care for Holmgren anymore. If they did, they wouldn't be out there half-assing Holmgren's "retirement season" like they are. Except for Hasselbeck, of course, who would gladly throw his life away on the field if it meant he could fucking win.

DLC News GAUSS~!!~ New Power Armor http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/937/937202p1.html More info there. Looks AWESOME. I didn't expect so much content for the first few. I figured everything would be saved for Broken Steel.

What power armor? I've got Charon and Clover decked out in Outcast Power Armor, about...75% repaired and they still die A LOT. Well, Clover anyway. Charon's pretty smart.

Fallout has never been about mix/maxing. In Fallout 2, all you really needed was small guns. Get enough agility, perception, maybe a few ranks in Action Boy, and with a small gun like a Magnum you could lay waste to everything. If you chose to play that way, virtually everything could be settled with some bullets. Same with this game. Get some Perception, some Agility, small guns, and by the time you hit 100% in Small guns there isn't much that'll stand in your way. God forbid you have a sniper and some FPS experience. If anything, this game is harder by forcing you to focus on other skills. Repair? Needed because you'll have to keep your shit in high condition. Medicine? Surprisingly needed due to the low amounts of stimpacks, and their cost. Never needed the skill in Fallout 2. Lockpicking? Sure you could do it in Fallout 2 but it wasn't needed. In this game? God yes. Science? Outside of Skynet I can't think of a real good use for science in 2. In 3 it's practically needed. If you never touch a terminal, then you miss out of alot of things, and much of the background to the game. So right there, the game forces you to be more developed then before. As for the perks...Every perk has their bonuses. And it isn't about being the best character evah. It's about playing a character. I'm playing an evil as sin character, but I didn't take the cannibal perk. Why? Because he aint down with it. However, I DID take the contract killer perk, because he's perfectly fine with murder. Just not so down with the whole eating people thing. And he feels a weee bit of remorse over Megaton...not much...but some.

The way I look at fighters is thus: Give me a good KO, a good submission, or an exciting fight and you are REDEEMED~! I'm sure Swick is happy to be redeemed. I thought the show was pretty meh overall, and I thought they tried WAY too hard on the charity, but the night sure delivered some quality KO's. I really wanna see if Ben Saunders can hang with the upper guys now. He impressed the fuck out of me. -
Meh. I was making posts as things happened.

There was a fight I hated Swick for wasn't there? I...honestly don't remember what it was. But yes, he redeemed himself. -
You might as well not even bother with NPC's. One + Dogmeat doesn't work. They'll run off and get killed easily, even by level 12 or so. It's sad that they put them in, and they didn't fully get them to work like they should.
