It's kind of sad that guys who are actually any good get threads called "Benoit's Best Match" or something but Batista gets a thread about his clothes because other than that he's not really worth talking about in a positive way.

USA was the wrestling network because they had no other shows worth watching. It is possible to have wrestling on your network and not have wrestling define it. USA used to run Murder She Wrote as a lead in for Raw, who the fuck wants to see that show? Now they apparently have some good shows and as long as they keep them then I see no problem. It's not like WWE is going to force Kojak off the air. USA wouldn't have to reprogram their entire line up, just Monday nights. They should jump on Ultimate Fighter if it's availible as well. I think FX is the station that should want WWE. They run Fear Factor and Married With Children on a constant loop, I don't consider wrestling to be any lower class than Fear Factor and Married With Children. I know they have other shows as well (Shield and Dennis Leary's fireman show). Plus, I'm a wrestling fan and I like both Fear Factor and Married... If they put Raw on and had Fear Factor as the lead in they might get me for 3 hours every Monday, like Spike does now with Raw and Ultimate Fighter.

El Gigante is sick of the Giant Gonzalez jokes. He using his Thunder in Paradise money to buy RD out.

I'm pretty sure that several clips of the IWGP title being defended were aired on WCW TV and that the title itself was defended there. As far as All japan, now that I think of it you're right. New Japan was the only title mentioned on WCW TV. Are you sure that NJPW didn't try to get the NWA title and were told no? If I were in JJ's shoes and was trying to sell a PPV every week or one a month, I don't think I'd put the NWA title on someone who nobody in America has heard of. Whether it would have made a difference in the buys is arguable but I wouldn't have.

Maybe because they're really putting someone over Hunter this time. I know the idea of someone actually being put over Hunter, and in the right manner, is literally mindblowing, but it shouldn't distract from should be obvious, that being Batista is winning. Maybe so. I suppose that the only guy that HHH would possibly put over is one who is a big steroid freak who he groomed.

While I agree, I personally wouldn't want the Jarrett's to completely decimate the NWA name by calling themselves that. I always thought they should just be called NWA and ACT more like the National Wrestling Alliance instead of a WWE/WCW knockoff, but alas. Anyway, just wanted to say the name "TNA" is stupid, but it's a pretty good representation of the crap that they present themselves as. How would TNA be decimating the whole NWA by going by that name? The people who are fans of the NWA territories will not cease to be fans if TNA goes by just NWA. I agree that they, if given two hours on Spike (one hour wouldn't be enough time to keep your main guy's angles going and bring in other NWA talent) should try to act more like a National Wrestling Alliance. They could constantly cycle fresh talent in and out and book the TNA contracted guys on the other territory's shows around the country. It would be a fair trade off to the territories. They get national TV exposure for their guys and TNA gets to have their's work at other places promoting their show. The TNA name sucks and they should just go by NWA. JCP pretty much did that until Turner bought the company. Maybe they should name it JJSPT (Jeff Jarrett's Self-Promotional Toy), it would be an acurate name at least.

The way I define "world title" is one that is recognized around the world. ROH's title is not recognized in America for the most part. WWE has two word titles, NWA has one, ECW had one, WCW had one, All Japan and New Japan have theirs. Other than that, I can't think of anymore within the last 15 years. New Japan paying for a run might have more to do with the style of work in ROH vs. TNA. TNA's heavyweight division does a worse version of WWE style and from what I understand ROH works a very Japanese type style.

I must have missed Hogan and Savage's runs with the NWA title. They both held the WWF and WCW belts nut not the NWA title. Either way I sort of question ROH's status as a World Title. I'm guessing that maybe 500,000 people in the whole country know who they are and not to sound jingoistic but if you aren't even recognized in your company's home base of America then you aren't a "world title." The NWA strap is more prestigious. Put it this way. I have seen the NWA champ on TV and I've never seen Samoa Joe or Austin Airies ever. I did consider ECW to have a world title because they had a TV show and a legitimate following across the country and in Japan. ROH, as much as some may love it (I can't coment on it's quality, as a I've never seen it) has barely crossed over to being relevant in the wrestling world.

This was far and away the most over he's been on any show so far and that is a very good thing heading into WM. I could not believe they had him say thank you to HHH. The crowd had no clue how to react to that and no one other than HHH could possibly have thought that it was the right thing for him to say. Thank God for cheap heat because the "you're an asshole" line saved him. I don't particularilly care for the guy but I would much rather see him on top than HHH, I'd rather see Maven on top at this point. But, I can't see how he'll sustain his heat. This type of shit will come back to bite him in the ass. HHH cuts a promo that is essentially true and Batista admits that it is. Batista makes a bad joke at Bischoff's espense after saying that he wouldn't touch HHH and HHH cuts an intense promo saying that he'll do whatever he wants and then slaps him in the face. Who is the bad ass here? The guy who does as he's told or the rebel who knows that no one can stop him? HHH went from being scared of him to being ambivilant about the match and pretty calmly stating that Big Dave has no chance in hell. Why would HHH be getting more and more confident? Confident enough to slap him in the face. Why wouldn't Batista be fighting back on the mic? Why does he have to thank HHH? The booking for this match has been good at times and really backward at others and if they keep booking his angles backwards with him not being the one in control then he'll flop. But ultimately the quality of the WM match will be the determining factor and that is entirely up to HHH, he controls the booking and he is the one who needs to carry Batista. If he decides to sandbag him at WM he has the power both in and out of the ring to do it. I think he'll make Batista look good at WM but insist on the match going too long and getting too much offense in. And at this point, considering the end of Raw I;m no longer sure that Dave is going over. When is the last time that HHH never really had the physical upperhand in a feud? When is the last time that HHH got beaten down on the Raw before the PPV and hasn't won?

I hope for Pro Wrestling's sake that Spike picks up TNA and puts them on at 11:00 pm for 1 or 2 hours on Mondays after Raw ends. If they threw them into a 2 hour time slot opposed to Raw they would get absolutely decimated in the ratings. TNA does a .4 or somthing now, they won't do much better opposing Raw. They'd need to advertise pretty heavily for the show during Raw, obviously which I imagine they'd be able to do, ECW and WCW used to. If the show does well then move it to 8-10, so they have a head start on Raw and if that does well then it could be moved head to head. TNA wouls have to make major changes as well. Their show looks very minor league. They need to move into a venue that can hold a decent amount of people (2-3000) and if they have to paper like crazy (which they will) then so be it. Half of the game is presentation. Look at Raw's set, it is larger than life and propably cost millions, look at TNA's and it's pathetic. They should dump the 3 sided ring and "TNA" as well. I have trouble taking the product seriously because the company's name is a stupid pun (that doesn't even apply anymore) and the ring is a gimmick. They should just be the "NWA." But, I just don't see it happening. I think Viacom making it known that they are talking to TNA is a move to try to get WWE to come back to teh table with a more reasonable offer. If it does Spike would get a show that could do Ultimate Fighter numbers in the 11:00pm time slot and would not have to spend anywhere near the amount that WWE costs. I'd bet they could get TNA for free.

That was what Dean Douglas was supposed to be and it didn't work.

Who is she? I thought she was the one from the Superbowl commercial but people are saying that she's on SD! so I'm a little confused. Either way Orton harrassed Weber out of the company on the plane ride back from Japan, so I assume that he would have been able to start in on any of the other SD! bitches as well. It seems like Randy really needs to grow up. I read a story about him shitting in someone's bag and stuff like that because he wants to have "cool stories" like Ric Flair and Harely Race have. The world is different is different now than it was 20 years ago and WWE and Randy Orton need to realize it before they get another lawsuit thrown at them. They can't win them all and I would suspect that Vince doesn't really like spending millions of lawsuits that could have ben easily avoided if he would just set ground rules adn enforce them to control his employees. How hard is it to suspend a guy without pay for a week for the first offense and then get tougher until a firing on the 3rd one? I think after the first guy gets fired most of te boys would cut this shit out as there is no where else to work right now in America and make money doing it.

I thought about doing that until I read the list of stuff, does anybody really want a Lockdown poster? Although the badge would certainly make my life complete.

What are your thoughts on Bret/HBK Ironman?
Some Guy replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
I would have booked it with Shawn getting a pin at around the 20 minute mark and Bret evening it up at around the 40 minute mark and had the last twenty be a dogfight over that last fall with the finish being the same (needing two superkicks to beat Bret) done in the final minute of the match. Basically, I would have booked it to be three matches joined together by selling. As it was it was quite boring except for a few highspots that they sprinkled in during the first 40 minutes or so. I'm a huge Bret and HBK mark and I don't like the match very much. In fact it is the only match on Shawn's DVD that I didn't bother to watch because I had already seen it a few times and had no interest in seeing it again. -
I'd be pissed if I had to job one of the worst Presidents in US history on PPV as well. Especially considering he's dead.

How would they make themselves seen? The WWE would have few qualms about NOT putting them on the air --- and unless the guys want to be arrested for running into a ring, they really don't have a lot of power here. If they have front row seats they'll be seen on the PPV. Vince is not going to have hte steady cam moved to avoid it or destry the camera work suring matches so that Jeff Jarrett isn't seen on his PPV. Or you could just have a WWE employee ask the question that would be on most fans' minds. Namely "Who the hell are you idiots?" Depending on who showed up many of the TNA would be recognized. JJ, Nash, DDP, Dusty, Road Dogg and a few others would be noticed. Although I doub any of them save JJ would do it because if they have half a brain they'll want to work for Vince again. Well, being attention whores made XPW a big success, right? Right? Damn -=Mike ...Yes, TNA is ripping off a fed run by a porn producer... Showing up at an ECW event and at WM are two totally different things. I don't think either option would be a perticularilly successful or good idea but they are going to do something and I figured that they might as well do somethign that would get them seen. If they ran into the ring and disrupted the PPV Vince would get really pissed amnd sign away all their talent to put them out of business. IF they just showed up in the front row and held signs, he'd be pissed but unlikely to quash them as a result. Besides, I think that Vince wants TNA to suceed. He has been recently quoted as saying that he misses the competition WCW brought.

That came out in 1987 IIRC... was she a star yet, because if not, then it's really not being out of place. No, but she did Total Recall with Arnold that year around that time. Stone wasn't really a star until Basic Instinct.
-
If they wanted to make a splash then Jarrett and few of their other top guys should have bought front row tickets and made themselves seen. Bringa film crew and show them being dicks and trying to get in backstage and whatnot and then show it the next time they get on Best Damn Sports Show. What they are planning is really stupid. Does anyone really look at the flyers that get handed to them or do they do what I do and drop them in the garbage as I walk by a can? What are they going to prove or accomplish?
-
Yeah, the "larger than life living legend" until Larry Z (I'm not going to try to spell his last name) sued and he had to drop the "living legend" part.

They were trying to capitalize on the popularity of The Matrix, I would guess by pinching a name from them. Neo was "The One" EDIT: That is the first time I've used the spoiler tags, I was curious if they worked right.

I think they only used it for a couple weeks to demonstrate that Brock was a true heel and the face stuff that he did from late 02 until the turn wasn't who he really was. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't any worse than "The Next Big Thing," anyway.

Jarrett has plenty of charisma, and his mic skills are 3 times those of Benoit's. I hope you were joking about Benoit's mic skills. Jarrett's mic skills are about the same as Benoit's on the whole. Benoit has terrible delivery and Jarrett is a terrible catchphrase machine. His promos suck. I don't hate JJ as a worker (or didn't last I saw him wrestle like 2 years ago) but I no interest in his promos, which I have heard recently. keep reading..... there ya go. And the reason for that is cuz JJ is playing something called the "heel". Marks don't use the word "drop" in relation to titles and they would be the ones who would be treating JJ as an effective heel, which he isn't, at least at a ME level. TNA's fans are almost exclusively smaet marks and they don't want JJ to be champion. He is truning off his fanbase by continuing to hold that belt. That may be true. But he's a bigger name than most in TNA, excluding Nash and DDP. Not true. Road Dogg, Konnan, X-Pac, Mike Tenay, Dusty Rhodes, and a handful of other more recent WWE regects have a bigger name than JJ to the the casual fan. Ok, obviously i was joking about jarrett beating them all at the same time. I actually do think that finish was BS. I'd love to see Raven in main events and i wish raven had won. But Raven just doesn't care anymore, so i doubt we will see that again. Is it possible that Raven, like RVD and Booker just don't care anymore because htey know that they will never be allowed to shine? benoit wasn't a promo machine like HHH, but he talked enough. He cut almost zero promos during his WCW run. His gimmick at the end was "Silent but Violent." True, never said he wasn't over before, he just became more over when he started to talk. And i said he never was a draw and never was a credible champion. Kane was probably most over as a draw at WM 14 or so. He got his biggest face pops during the mid card thing with Tori and Waltman, while he was learning to talk. The key is didn't talk much. He still spoke. And yes goldberg was a bigger draw than JJ. Goldberg cut no promos for months. None at all. They built up his first promo as a huge event on Nitro for at least a week. He barely spoke outside of grunts and random yelling during matches up until that point. Mike, I have to disagree with on Goldberg being a weak draw. He was a huge draw, getting big ratings and moving a ton of T-Shirts in late 98. His mega drawing power was short lived as they started booking him in a way that the audience did not want to see him. His WWE run is proof that he can get over if booked right (Summerslam 03, until the finish). The whole thing with Goldberg is presentation and WWE fucked that up. They didn't present him as a monster and he didn't draw. When WCW presented him as such he drew very well. Ok...... Jericho needed to cheat to beat Austin and The Rock. Jarrett needed to cheat to beat....Everyone. So how does that make Jericho look bad.....but jarrett look good? You're arguement makes no sense. It makes everyone look bad. But, if JJ or another heel beats someone by cheatin and then just moves on without the face getting the big win then the face looks like a pussy. Such as WWE? The company that never pushed him and then released him? i don't think that K Kwick has too many options outside of TNA. Not really.

Who the fuck would spend that much on a wrestling DVD? There are a few old WWF DVDs that I didn't buy when they came out that I now want, so I periodically check Gamestop.com to see if the they have any used ones at the 2 or 3 stores near my house. I picked up the Brock DVD and Before They Were WWF Superstars for $7.99 and $9.99 respectively and they had WM 19 (most likely for $9.99). I won't spend more than $25 on a new WWE DVD, much less hundreds on a used one. BTW, the Action DVD is very good and has a ton of the Austin/Angle comedy shit from 2001 on it. Although it has Trish in a bikini (complete with a note that there is no footage of Trish in a bikini on the disc) and Raven hitting Rhynoe with a trachcan lid on the cover but the very good Raven/Rhyno match from Backlash 01 is not on the disc.
-
Yeah, but Austin firts called it it in 2003 and it never really got over despite both Austin and JR saying it all the time unitl Jericho said it in a pre-match interview and it was really only over for that match. Even JR seems to have given up and started calling him the vastly superior "Captain Charisma."

"Superstar" Scott Steiner, which he briefly went by after the heel turn, as well as "White Thunder". Unless it was copyrighted, they should have stayed with that. It was certainly better than "Big Poppa Pump", "Big Bad Booty Daddy, or "Freakzilla." His gimmick was a complete rip off of Billy Graham down to every last drop of Dianabol anyway, he might as well of stolen the name aswell.
