My bad, I think I may have picked that up from "useless moron" useless moron Scott Keith.

    The Old School questions thread

WWF had a few saturday morning shows on USA. Live Wire was one and it was actually a pretty cool premise and a few years before it's time. They would have wrestlers on the show and take calls. The calls weren't screened or fake so teh guys got asked really kayfabe breaking questions. I remember Russo (as Vic Venom) outing Dok Hendrix as really being Michael PS Hayes. The show was aired live (hence the title) from Titan Towers' TV studio. I really liked it back in late 96-early 97 before I got on the net and they turned it into a higlight show. I don't know when Superstars debuted in syndicationbut it switched to USA in 96.

Wasn't Ahmed tentatively planned to take the strap off Taker at the Canadian Stampede PPV had he not gotten injured again and replaced by Vader?

    Fact or a myth?

They didn't know any better. I remember listening to an old WOL back when it was still on Eyada.com and Meltzer said that he asked someone in the WWF why they hired him and they said that he was a good promo guy and an average worker. They obviosly didn't do their homework on him. They knew about JJ being a shitty draw. A two year old program that ended with a clean finish?

    A Tna Videogame ??

Very very very hard, but I think God will be looking soemwhere other than Planet Jarrett when the prayers are made. I hope they get on a real network and are given enough money to put on a how that looks better than WCW World Wide.

    Fact or a myth?

Sure he was an ok mid carder but he was being paid like $350K a year which was pretty big money for WWF in late 97. Vince expected him to be a ME player and JJ failed ot get over. He barely got an audible reaction for his "shoot promo" on Raw when he ripped Austin 3:16 and said that HBK was a cripple who was proud of the fact that he could only work one match a week. HTQ, JJ is not Goldberg, Nash, Hogan, or Steiner in terms of star power. Vince may have brought him back but I doubt he'd have come back as a ME guy.

Gonzalez also used a terrible looking chokeslam. That would the highspot tp set up the next 15 minutes of choking. If they end up with a game and it sounds good, I'll pick it up. I'm not too sure that they should really go this route yet, they don't have the TV to really push outside prejects like a video game and if it fails then they will be branded as such by the VG makers. I think they need to pray that they can get on Spike in prime time.

    Fact or a myth?

This isn't really a fact or myth but but: Would JJ have been taken back by Vince after he bought WCW had he not held them up for 6 figures to drop teh IC belt to Chyna? I tend to think not, as I think Vince was pretty disgusted with him for failing to get over to any great degree with any of the 3 different gimmicks he had during his 97-99 run. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't high on their priority list if then didn't even realize that his contract was running out and he was the reaigning IC champ at the time.

    Fact or a myth?

A pattern that still follows him to this day. That was sot of my point. HTQ, why did Dustin get fired and was Hall fired because of the plane ride or did he go earlier?

    A New "What If"

Yes, I think that Luger would have gotten over more than he did if he won the title from Yoko at SS. IMO, with that type of push anything less than the taking the strap at the end of it woudl be a huge let down. WWF built Luger up huge with the "Lex Express" and all that shit and basically promised the world that he would take the belt and they didn't deliver on the promise. I think that Russo would have put the belt on Booker no matter what. Russo said shit about Mexican and Japanese workers, not black guys. Booker deserved the belt and would have gotten it anyway. The recism lawsuit was crazy. Walker claimed that he was being discriminated against because he was being paid less than white wrestlers like Ric Flair. RIC FLAIR! A fucking 16 time world champion being paid more than a jobber? Must be racism. Plus Booker and Stevie Ray were making way more money than they were worth to the company in 98 and 99. I think Stevie made like $750,000 or some such inflated figure.

    More Possible WWE Returns...

Jesus! How old is he now? I just assumed he retired, let the air out and deflated. I was apparently quite wrong.

    Fact or a myth?

I think JJ left because he was pissed that he was a misarable failure in the WWF and never got over until he had the ultimate in cheap heat gimmicks with the anti-women deal and he was friends with Russo who he knew woudl give him the completely unsuccessful and undeserved push that he got. I know that Hennig and Brock had a little skirmish on the plane but I really doubt that a 40+ year old guy was going to put a 25 (or so) year old NCAA champion "in his place" unless Brock was passed out. I think Hennig and Hall were the only ones fired over it. Dustin got the axe later in the year for reaons that I'm unclear on. And Flair is Flair, his job is safe as long as he keeps sucking HHH's dick everywhere he goes.

    Albert has arrived!

Are Albert, Chuck, and Stambolli really going to get over in Japan? I can see Albert because of his size but the other guys suck in the ring. It's seems that there is a recently released WWE lower-midcarder invasion in AJPW.

Can Warlord even take an RKO? Is he even remotely a legend? Won't he look completely different 15 years later when he's not all gassed up? What's teh point?

    Ages of wrestlers

Randy Orton's under 30, and yes I'm considering him a Main Eventer. -Paul Jacobi- Why would you consider him a Main Eventer? I realize that he was in the title match at RR but he's really just an upper mid-carder at this point. I don't consider Benoit or Jericho main eventers anymore because they aren't and neitehr is Orton. I'd bet money that Orton will be a ME player in the next year or so if he is moved to SD!, but now he's in a cobbled together feud with Taker that contradicts his own gimmick. He's supposed to be the Legend Killer, his Legend Killer gimmick spat in Harley Race's face and RKO'ed every other old guy they put in front of him, yet he stands in the ring and talks about respecting Taker? It makes no sense. Orton shouldn't respect anything or anybody. He should also start treating Stacy like shit. The guy needs to be a total dick to get this over. If he continues to straddle the fence his gimmick will fail.

    Ages of wrestlers

According to IMDB.com I was right about Lilian: That makes her 38, which seems to be about right. The older guys will go on until they decide to leave. There is no competition and as such Vince doesn't seem to feel a need to create new stars like he did in 97-2000.

    The Old School questions thread

Plus Warrior and bad News would have to job and since Warrior didn't end up losing a match until WM 5 and Bad News was being groomed for a title feud with Savage, I doubt they wanted either of them laying down. Hercules was feuding with Warrior at the time they had a match at WM 4. The feud was over a tug of war with Herc's chain, if IIRC, he called out anyone to have a tug of war and Warrior came out and snapped the chain in the process. So Herc was busy jobbing to a guy who they didn't want to job in the tourney. At least that's my take on it.

    Anyone noticed

Everyone Vader tossed was allowed back in. I think Owen keptgoing throught he ropes because he wasn't sure that he wouldn't be fucking up the match by going over the top and being eliminated too soon. In 89, I think that Hogan eliminated Bossman after Hogan was eliminated by pulling him under the bottom rope and then hit him with a metal briefcase. Hogan was such a poor loser in Royal Rumbles.

    Ages of wrestlers

No way is Lillian Garcia only 29. She looks like she's 39 and I'm almost positive that read somewhere recently that she was in her mid 30s. It's kind of sad that when you look at the current ME scene in WWE that the only guy under 30 is John Cena and he's the worst worker of the bunch. Yes, he's worse than JBL and Batista. Cena is the absolute shits in the ring. The other guys at least play their role fairly well. One of the ironies of this list is that HBK is 39 (soon to be 40) and at the KotR 93 he refered to Hogan as a dinosaur, at the time Hogan was... You guessed it! 39 and soon to be 40. Kind of funny how that worked out, huh?

    Lame finisher names

No, he wouldn't be using it if Shamrock were still around. They tend to protect people's gimmicks in WWE, alhtough Angle stealing the rolling Germans would contradict that statement, I suppose. I don't know why he uses it now, frankly. It doesn't really make sense. He's a wrestler, not an MMA guy. I also sort of wonder why he works Taz style matches. Suplex, suplex, submission on a body part not at all affected by said suplexes.

Markish impressions you had as a youth

I really thought that Vince didn't know who half the guys on the show were and had never met them. He was that good/bad at beinga clueless announcer that I thought he didn't even know his own employees. I thought this before and after I knew he owned the company. Before I knew I thought he had casually met a few of the top guys and never spoken to the heels outside of interviews and that he had never bothered to meet lower guys like the Rockers or whoever. After I knew I figured he just didn't care enough about guys like Flash Funk to meet them, with Al Snow it sort of turned out that I was right. he did meet him when he signed, but couldn't be bothered to talk to the guy until he brought him back from ECW. Watch Al's shoot and tells the whole story about calling Vince everyday for weeks and getting called back by Cornette or Bruce Pritchard. I too thought that Yoko was Japanese. Besides, Hogan called him a "Jap" and if Hogan says it then it has to be true. I really believed Hogan when he said he didn't do roids and that he just trained, said his prayers, and ate his vitamins. But I was like 10 or something at the time and didn't really know what steroids were.

    Fact or a myth?

I think Luger was scheduled to win the belt at WM 10 since prior to Summerslam 93 but the plan changed to Bret getting the strap at RR 94. Luger was obviously being groomed to take Hogan's spot and I believe they did the count out finish at SS so he could get the win at the biggest show of the year. But Luger was not a guy with enough charisma or star power to be able to afford not winning the belt at that show and as such his heat died down a lot. If they wanted Luger to be a big star they needed to have given him the belt at Summerslam. Trying ot stretch it out was a mistake and history proved it.

When did you start to hate Hogan?

I was pretty much a huge Hogan fan from late 88 (when I started watching) unitl he left WWF. I got a back into him a little with his WCW face run but was much more into seeing HBK and Bret tear it up on Raw. Hogan's heel turn was a big deal to me but the Outsiders (Hall in particular) made me watch the show. From 96 to his face turn in WWF, I looked at him as an old bald guy with orange skin who was horribly out over the hill both in the ring and on the mic. He always sounded lame when he tried to copy Nash and Hall's promos and looked like a fuckign moron with that beard. His heel schtick was 20 years out of date and he refused to do business with anyone. I did get behind him when he returned to the WWF and marked huge for the Rock match and the dualing chants on the Chicago Raw. It was a fun mostaligia ride that dragged on too long. I thought they finally got him in the spot he should havebeen in when he was tagging with Edge and then put Brock over, but he apparently decided that he should be main eventing because he's draw huge with a sea of Hulkamaniacs flocking to the shows to see an old bald-headed guy get by on the strengh of Hulkamania, brother!. That being said I would have had no problem if they booked him against hassan and had Hogan win with the formula and then getting a short run on TV in order to put over Batista, Orton, or Cena or maybe try to get a "money match" out of he and HBK, as that match never happened. I have no love for his political shit but when I think of Hogan I think of how much I enjoyed watching him as a kid. Something about the guy made you have to watch him.

Just how good could Marty Jannety have been

The story Marty tells is that htey got pissed that they were being paid considerably less than other teams for a commercial. Shawn pissed and moaned and they decided that they would quit, so Marty called Patterson and gave notice for the team. Vince decided to let them leave rather quickly (after the Survivor Series 91 PPV, I think), rather than job them out, which Marty thought was pretty decent of him. Marty tells Shawn that he gave teh notice and Shawn starts flipping out and saying, "He let us quit?" as though he could not believe that Vince wouldn't beg a JTTS tag team to stay. So, Shawn calls Vince and tells him that Marty is crazy and that Shawn did not have anything to do with it. So Shawn got he push and Marty got pretty much nothing. I don't know how true that is but it's what Marty says.
