Randy pitched really good ball today 8 IP / 7 H / 3 R / 2 ER / 1 BB / 11 K / 129 P yet lost, 3-2.

For my fellow DirecTVers, MLB extra innings was free...up until yesterday. I was pretty disapointed that I had only found out yesterday, but it did allow me to see the Dodger game with the LA feed, giving me the awesomeness of Vin Scully.

You think ESPN sucks? Well, NFL Network is Worse?
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe replied to JimmyHendricks's topic in Sports
YES Network is not much better. They have a five and a half hour radio show on television. -

Have there been any updates?

Magglio Ordonez replaces Ramirez on the AL All Star roster. Pretty cool of Guillen to pick him since A) flack for taking 2 Tigers one of which was voted in and B) after all the shit that he said about him last year.

Everyone in New York is clamoring for Philip Hughes to get the call, after constant embarrassments by Chacon and Wright.
-
I've heard some rumblings that vets like Al Leiter and John Franco didn't like him, so they made shit up about him having a bad attitude and stuff and went to the Wilpons or Philips/Duquette (Whoever was the GM at the time) about it.

I don't think Milwaukee is that disappointing, they're playing .500ish which is what I figured they would do.
-
Nobody can predict injuries, obviously, but the pitching sucking balls I sure predicted.

Yanks finish up the first half on the road. A-Rod boofest '06 continues, July 14 vs. Chisox.
-
Hey, now you're getting it. But seriously, it would totally have to be Barry, Roger, Michelle Wie, and TO.
-
He also hit a "classic" A-Rod home run later on, making a 13-3 lead a 16-3 lead.

I thought they were pretty cool, except for the gaudy CANADA in place of the name on the back.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but that Trifecta bullshit that they show at midnight is horrible. A 20 minute Baseball Tonight?! -
Sports Announcers You Don't Want To Stab

Kay keeps it together very nicely when the rest of them, especially Murcer, go off on tangents. -

I like the entire YES broadcast team for the most part. Michael Kay and Jim Kaat being the two best. Bobby Murcer is a nice third piece, but when he is forced to do play-by-play, which I can't remember him doing for at least a year, he is pretty bad. Ken Singleton is also a very good regular. Then they have some rotating recently retired players in Paul O'Neill, Al Leiter, and John Flahrety who do a nice job. The general booth is Kay/Kaat/Murcer. Kay is pretty much there for every game, but when he isn't, I feel that the overall broadcast suffers without him. Maybe it is because he is the only one who actually has a background in the field, since every other one of his co-anchors are ex-players. He did radio with John Sterling (who I don't really like too much any more) for years before YES launched in 2002, and was a Yankee beat writer for one of the papers before that, plus he has a radio show on each day. He talks Yankees/baseball in general better than anyone on the dial in the city. -

First off, playing experience doesn't really effect how good or bad an analyst is. Peter Gammons is terrific and never played pro ball. Joe Morgan was a Hall of Famer and he's horrid. In Orestes' case, he spent those years playing Japanese baseball. He hosted a spanish language baseball program on XM Radio before joining one of the english language shows when Larry Bowa left to coach on the Yankees. He's not the best analyst but he's reasonably intelligent and hasn't yet prompted me to throw my radio out the window. And how is the general idiot that sits down to watch BBTN supposed to know that? It's never mentioned at all. I certainly didn't. I think you took what I said the wrong way about his playing experience. Most of the time he's on the show, he's supposed to be the player/analyst. Yet he has one full major league season, the year Joe Carter won the World Series, before the strike... -
And the only other D-Back team to make the playoffs (Since '01, I know they made it in '99) was 2002, when they were swept in the Division Series by St. Louis.

I want to know how they found Orestes Drestrade for Baseball Tonight. http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/destror01.shtml He's supposed to be the former player in the studio, the thing about it is that he played 4 years, one full season, with five years in between stints after being drafted in 1980. I just find it funny how randomly selected this guy seems to be. He doesn't add jack shit to the show, that's for sure, but not many of their analysts do anyway.
