NYC all but out of the 2012 Olympic running
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe replied to TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe's topic in Sports
I didn't hear much discussion of events that would take place other than at the Manhattan stadium, except for something about Queens (where, I don't know) and some place upstate. I'm pretty dissapointed not only now that the city isn't getting the games (Which I was going to try and attend some of) but the NFL had granted the 2010 Super Bowl to New York, as long as they got the stadium built. Suppose that will now also go by the wayside. -
It's eastern conference vs. western confrence, but both teams are located in the middle of the country far from either coast.

I heard on the radio before the Yankees took some shortstop at 17. Don't know why.

The NFL Offseason/Pre-Draft Thread
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe replied to MrRant's topic in Sports
A couple of years back, i think Seattle had a "turn ahead the clock day" in response to the numerous "turn back the clock" days going on then, but I think that was still before the explosion of them into the mainstream and other sports (Every time I watch Sportscenter, at least 1 NBA team is wearing them) -

They're fun and all, but what is with the obsession with throwbacks the last few years? -

I hear that's true, too, but at the time there was a first base/DH logjam with Giambi and Nick Johnson. -

It was pathetic, indeed, and I hate nitpicking, but it's Womack, not Wolmack. I normally wouldn't be a dick and point it out like that but I've seen people spell it that way before, whether it was your or not i don't know. -

I'd take my chances on Manny, Ortiz is way more clutch. -

Every now and again, the Yanks and Sox have their own little UFC right in Fenway Park. -

And they did their part, came to the park with a solid effort, and capitalized on every Yankee mistake. It's all part of playing a good game. -

Gotta hand it to KC, they did play a heck of a game, save Stairs getting tossed out a third trying to stretch an overthrow from first. -

Because Giambi needs to "get back on track" and DH is his spot, forget any loyalty to the guy who's been in the organization since 1985 (Who by the way had two monster doubles to the CF wall tonight) -
Favorite sports moment from a sport you don't like

I'm not sure if I understand what this is supposed to mean; are you implying that casual fans should like the Yankees? That if I were to wake up tomorrow morning and decide to start following baseball that I, having no geographical loyalties, should just start rooting for the Yankees? With overwhelmingly unexplained anti Yankee sentiment almost everywhere I go these days, it stood to reason. Nothing to do with where you are from or who you root for, since I know tons of Philly/Met fans who became Boston fans in the playoffs for sheer "Yankee hate," despite the fact that they are in different leagues and pretty much don't affect eachother whatsoever (The Mets moreso, but that's just the city thing) especially Philly. -

That triple threat match had one of the most predictable main events ever, and I was about a 13 or 14 year old mark at the time. Who couldn't see that the McMahons would regain full control of the company? Although I was eating it out of their hands regardless... -

So you're not a baseball fan and you hate the Yankees anyway? -
JR once repeatedly called Regal "Blackman" and to which the King replied "Whatever you're on, you better cut the dose, that's not Blackman its Regal" JR also used to mix up Jericho and Benoit all the time, especially when they were in the same match.

I wouldn't say there is a definite, clear cut, absolute window of time for the prime years of a players career and exactly when they will decline. It differs from player to player.

Anytime in basketball when there's a halfcourt (or longer) shot. -
WHY?! they didn't say one shit thing about your Yankees... and all of them actually have alot of respect for the Yankees. You can bash Pedro (when he was with the Red Sox) or Schilling, but these guys? Kevin Millar: This guys talks a lot of shit for no reason. He was one of the Sox in the offseason who verbally attacked A-Rod for no apparent reason, other than the fact that he isn't a "true Yankee" like Jeter and Bernie and such are. This is a guy who signed to play in Japan before Boston rescued his dumbass. If he was a better player, and more important to his own team then I could give him a little leeway, but, well, he isn't. Jason Varitek: It's funny that it comes down to A-Rod again, since he is just 2/25ths of the Yanks that I am not a fan of. Well, when I think Arroyo hit A-Rod last summer, Rodriguez had a few choice words for the pitcher, and tough guy Varitek got in his face with all of his gear on, mask and all. Defending your pitcher is one thing, especially when you are the captain of the team, but, come on, at least have the sack to take off your mask while you're in an escalating shoving match with a guy. Manny Ramirez: This guy is another tough guy punk looking for a fight. Remember the famous Zimmer-on-his-head fiasco? He tries to get a brawl going when he ducks out of the way of a Clemens pitch that was OVER THE PLATE, not anywhere near his head. Then what does he do? Proceed more than a few steps towards the mound with BAT IN HAND. David Ortiz: This guy just rubs me the wrong way. The way he watches his homers fly out of the park, his whole cocky aura. All this for a designated hitter who couldn't get it done for years in Minnesota, all of a sudden now he's a big somebody with a big head because the media is telling him how great he is.

I forgot to add that I hate Alex Rodriguez, Jason Giambi, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Kevin Millar, Jason Varitek, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez as well as Schilling.
