  1. The problem I'm running into now is that just simply working out isn't enough anymore. I was stagnant there for a while, so just getting in the gym provided good gains.

Then you have to change the exercise sets you're doing. You should change you're routine around every few weeks anyway to avoid this. Doing the same things, in the same order all the time won't get you where you want to be.

I also suggest you drop the weight first and then go from there. That's how I did it. I went from 220 of flab to a lean and cut 175. But it takes time and dedication, it certainly doesn't happen overnight. It's taken me 14 months.

  2. Try some explosive stuff - like bench step ups with dumbbells in hand, bench jump-ups, plyometrics, running stairs/bleachers.

He said "Your quads are big and built (yay me), but you have no hamstrings." So I'm doing some exercises for my hamstrings. I know they get worked during squats and I've been doing hamstring curls. I'm going to get into deadlifts, but I'm so afraid of hurting my back. I tried some stiff legged ones today, but I honestly didn't feel any pull in my hamstrings.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with deadlifts. That's a back excercise, not legs. (At least what I know of are deadlifts)

  3. I'm extremely novice at these things, but here goes:

I downloaded a torrent of what should have been a 3 hour or so video, but when it finished and the folder went into my shared folder, it's just a bunch of files that don't open as anything, all end in ".r0" ".r1" ".r2" and so on. They are all exactly 14.3 MB in size, where the whole video was supposed to be around 1GB or so.

So my problem is that I have no idea what I've got on my hands, and I need to figure out how to play these things. I can't drop them into any video player I have, nor does the search the internet option yeild any results. There was one clip that worked, it was an .avi titled "sample" and was 14 seconds of audio.

    Anything would be appreciated.

  4. When you're being a dick to somebody but you can use language to turn it around so that they're the dick. For example, when you're clearly in somebody's way, you say "Oh, am I in your way?" as if you're surprized to see them behind you, and they have to say "no" or else it's the other guy that's the asshole, not you.

  5. ...the offense just isn't coming through. Melky and Cano have killed us this year, Girardi can sit Melky but Cano has to play because he's just potentially too good to take out of there. Losing Posada hurt us a lot because even though nobody expects him to have a repeat of 2007 he's a tough, professional hitter and a fixture in the lineup for the last decade. Jeter is having, for him, a bad year, putting up the lowest OPS of his career so far, and he hasn't run very much either. This is actually worse than the year where he started out in that long slump, because once he got out of it he was red hot for the rest of the season. This year he's just been average all season. So that's 4 spots in the lineup where we're not getting the production we need, everyone else has been good, but when you rely on your offense so heavily it's not enough.

This is a very astute observation and I am surprised that this hasn't gotten a little more attention from the media. One of the things that was truly remarkable about the Yankees over the past decade was their ability to get elite offensive production from the traditional, up-the-middle defensive positions (C, SS, 2B and CF). That was really the backbone of the offensive machine that won the titles and it's what kept them as the best offense in baseball throughout the '00s.

New York is going to have a ton of money to spend in the next few years and it will be interesting to see how they address the offensive side of the equation. Jeter could be in a season-long slump, but it's not crazy to suggest that he may be in his decline phase of his career. Posada is most likely going to have to DH or play first from here on out. How they address those two player's roles in the next couple of years could be interesting. They've lived with their respective defensive deficiences because the bats were so good, but that might not be the case going forward.

Cano and Melky are both sub-.300 in OBP. It's not like Melky is having good at-bats or even looking like he has a clue at the plate. He just takes 3 weak hacks and sits down. Cano's always been a slasher with a high average/low OBP but this year neither the average or the power are there. Jeter's have a down year/begining his decline, and Matsui and Posada are out for the season. That's just the line-up. Wang is probably out for the year, Pettitte has been bad since the ASB, Chamberlain's down, and Hughes and IPK were basically non-factors this year. The worst thing about 2008 is that going into next season, the young guys will be on innings caps again because of injury/ineffectiveness this year. It's stunting their growth terribly. If Mike Mussina wasn't having the year he is, they wouldn't even be in the postseason conversation. They've patched it together once again with guys like Ponson, Rasner, and Giese. Jose Molina (great C, awful hitter) was the starting catcher for most of the season.

  6. Dude, they're a fungus, not a vegetable.

Here's a joke to help you remember:

Mushroom walks into a bar and the bartender says "We don't serve your kind in here." and the mushroom says "Why not? I'm a fungi." (fun guy)

A high school science teacher of mine used to tell that one all the time.
