WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - January 2008

Real interesting six-man tag match in Legends. Chief Strongbow, Andre the Giant, and Billy White Wolf vs. Bruiser Brody and the Executioners. The Executioners were Killer Kowalski (50 years old) and a young John Studd. Billy White Wolf is better known as General/Sheik Adnan. -
Philadelphia Sports I wanted to clarify my supposed Eagles hate. I don't hate the Philadelphia Eagles. If I watch a football game I cheer for them, and if they are in the Super Bowl, I will watch. (More on that later.) The problem comes from the Philadelphia fan base. In 2005, I attended a game between the Phillies and the Florida Marlins, September 9, 2005. The Phillies were fresh off a five game losing streak, and fell behind 4-1 by the third inning. Among the fans, an E-A-G-L-E-S chant struck up. The general problem is that the fans do not stick behind their teams and support them. At the slightest provocation, they turn on the team and voice their displeasure when things go wrong. The tone of the crowd was, "we give up, we support another team now with a better chance." Of course the Phillies won the game 12-5 and made an admirable run towards the wild card (and fell short.) I think it hurts the local teams that the fans are not more generally supportive. It's tiresome to listen to "woe is me" fans. The Phillies have been good the last several years, as have the Eagles. So they did not reach the championship. Them and 29-31 other teams. I think fans need to give up championships/playoff wins as a barometer of success. Winning any playoff series is 50/50, and winning a championship at best is an 8:1 shot in the postseason. Long term win/loss percentage is the best measure of team success in sports. Steroids Today Congress spent another round of hearings due to the Mitchell Report. I think the big problem specifically is that the report contained information based on the early part of the decade, before Congress held their first hearings. They could not use the report to evaluate baseball's progress. Bigger than that however, I am generally tired of steroids entering the discussion. I am honestly not interested; I would rather hear and talk about transactions and what roster moves teams are making towards next season. I am a big fan of baseball, as everyone knows. I love the competition. I do not wish to look at the game and wonder who is and is not on steroids. No one does really. I probably support some real bozos. I think Mark McGwire should go into the Hall of Fame. I would rather pretend they do not exist than let it invade every portion of baseball evaluation. That is likely not the wisest position to take. Think of it as a coping mechanism.

I always run a non-keeper league, and VX would certainly be welcome there.

They don't do pyro on ECW. uh..he had some just now for his entrance Not lots then. The logistics of the entranceway/stage don't allow for much.

This segment is going to do a world of good for C.M. Punk.

If Arena Football isn't a second tier league, what is? -
My name really is Pimp Daddy Al. I had a t-shirt and everything.

Much more interesting than Ken Tremendous. When did Fire Joe Morgan get so obnoxious? -
According to board statistics, we have 5,053 registered members. I think we've averaged around 50 votes per round. A 1% voter turnout isn't anything to scoff at. We're lucky many of the posters in the WWE folder are even smart enough to turn on their computer, let alone find this part of the board. This is a quality zing. Well done.

Bad is the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team that has not experienced a winning season since 1992 even in the NL Central. They've gotten premium draft picks for YEARS, and the last home grown guy they developed into an All-Star was Jason Kendall. They're not just awful, they're every bit as hopeless as they were 10 years ago. -

1906 Chicago Cubs, pretty clearly. They had the best win/loss record over a multi-year span as well, so they weren't a fluke team. Here's one. Where should MLB expand next? -
I shall not be thwarted. This sad collection of bitching and minutia will exist no longer in the Sports forum. No more bumping a six day old thread because OMG Max Kellerman has a podcast! I have a plan, and I'm feeling good.

I guess at this point the A's are happy letting Chris Denorfia and Ryan Sweeney duke it out for the center field job. I don't know how good they'll be, but it will be an interesting team to watch next season.

It's cool. I think my contempt of this thread is starting to get the best of me. Actually I loved this thread. I don't know why Smues didn't think it was classic.

He didn't get along with Bowa, who was the king of those types as a player. It's the AJ Pierzynski syndrome. You can be a jackass when you produce, but you'll find your shelf life VERY short if your production falters.
-
I don't know. If the show sucks, why do you keep watching it? God, this bullshit is now the fifth longest thread in the history of the Sports forum. Do any of you realize how ridiculous that is? If you don't like the network, DON'T F'N WATCH IT.

Yeah, it may have well been six posts up on this very page.

WWE General Discussion - January 2008

That was sure a mythical pop Hornswaggle got at the show I attended last week. And it was so realistic, it had me fooled completely. What purpose does it serve? Besides entertaining the fans, damned if Finlay isn't as over now as he's ever been. -
Surprised there's not much said on the Glaus/Rolen trade and the Kotsay/Devine deal. I like Joey Devine going to Oakland. He had a real nice bounceback year after getting pushed to the Majors too quickly after he was drafted. It'll be interesting to see what Mark Kotsay has left in the tank with the Braves. He's a one-year stopgap until Jordan Schafer is ready. The Cardinals and Blue Jays traded each other their good hitting but injury prone third basemen. The difference is that Rolen can play defense. The relationship between him and the Cardinals though made a trade inevitable. Rolen left Philly after he couldn't get along with Larry Bowa. Has he just had a run of bad situations or is there something more under the surface? Rolen has Hall of Fame talent, but he is going to need to put together a good run to have a shot. Johnny Podres died yesterday. Podres worked as a roving instructor for the Phillies, and a guy I got to meet in 2005. He beat the Yankees in game seven of the 1955 World Series, giving Brooklyn their only World Championship.

If true, Sting was quite an odd choice to begin with. Randy Savage is one of the bigger dvds they can run, but they should wait on that until they can get Randy Savage to sit down and interview. I'm not going to get into the speculation on that.

I missed the part where voting became compulsory. I generally don't like to say which posters are better than others. Otherwise you would've seen my list of ten worst posters by now. And remember, I lose a vote on this. Glad to see my matchup with Cheech came out pretty close. Honestly, he probably should've beaten me. He's far more active in the forums.

Thanks, but I avoid voting in these tournaments as a matter of policy.

Simple question here. Any game/event throughout history that you wish you could have been in attendance for. For me it's the final game of the 1950 season, Phillies at Brooklyn. The Phillies hold a one game lead in the pennant race after leading seven with two weeks to go. Richie Ashburn cuts off Cal Abrams at home in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a tie. Dick Sisler hits a three-run shot in the top of the tenth to give the Phils the lead and the game. The Phils win their first pennant in 35 years and end the worst stretch of futility any team ever endured. Unlike the 1980 run, there is no videotape of this game anywhere save a few highlights.
