WWE General Discussion for June 2007
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Not to speak for Mole, but I think the point is that WWE is run quite well. -
Can you name that film by its middle frame?

I got six. I've only seen 19 of the films though. -
Koloff had two things going for him in the NWA; a consistent push thanks to Dusty, and decent money for a travel schedule that, while hard going, was nothing like the nightmarish one WWF guys had. If Koloff had gone to the WWF and feuded with Hogan, he'd have slid down the cards once the feud was done, with his pay sliding down accordingly. On a short term basis, a feud with Hogan would have made him more money than he was getting in the NWA, but in the long term, he had the better monetary prospects, and a far lighter travel schedule, in the NWA. Regarding the travel schedule, would his wife's illness have something to do with that consideration or did that come later?

Fun with Buzz Bissinger day. http://www.790theticket.com/audioplayer.ph...how&id=2543

How many NWA stars really got buried though, particularly at the time? Bob Orton, Greg Valentine, Roddy Piper, Rick Steamboat, etc. all received fair pushes in WWE. Heck, Nikita's partner Krusher Khruschev certainly couldn't complain about his WWE career.

It's raining hard in Philadelphia. If ever a game deserved a mercy killing, this one is it.

This is a touchy subject, so this thread is going to become more heated than others. Maintain some sense of civility, but at the same time flaming is probably inevitable. Expect no mod action on this one.
-
Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the ECW show apart from Storm/Lynn. I think if WWE presented the same show today, fans would dump on it.
-
I don't blame them for leaving the dog. Honestly, it's probably something you DON'T want to be a part of. My condolences.
-
With John Foley. I believe he's a big name in Stampede history, but I'd be hard pressed to provide detail.
-
That's odd. Al Hays was also a fairly renowned regional wrestler in his time, so he wasn't just some codger they dug up.

I wouldn't trust two months of defensive statistics any more than two months of offense. In fact less so, because at least we have confidence in offensive statistics. I finally watched the A-Rod play and I have to change course. Shouting one word as you're passing the fielder without changing your gait is far from what the rule seeks to prevent. The rule is in place to prevent a runner from taking a point near the fielder and yelling, "I got it, I got it!!" That play was Howie Clark's mistake more than anyone else's.

NL Central teams are a combined 49-87 outside of their division.
-
Earl Weaver I believe was tossed before the second game of a doubleheader.
-
That's legal though, as is the hidden ball trick. The rule simply covers deliberate deceptions such as those of this nature. The rule is a little vague, but MLB umpires are good at fleshing out the obvious details.
-
Interference as defined in the official MLB rulebook.
-
I believe there is a rule against it. Let me try and track it down.

Doesn't surprise me. A-Rod's reputation for leaving 'em in scoring position is well known.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=2880887 Thoughts on his selections. 1. Barry Zito Agree. Won a Cy Young award (deservingly), but became an above-average pitcher who throws tons of innings. Certainly not worth $120 million. He's not as bad as his numbers this year though. A left-handed flyball pitcher will struggle with 42 year old Barry Bonds patrolling left field. 2. J.D. Drew Disagree. Not that he doesn't have his faults, but if everyone lists those thoughts right away when his name comes up, who's overrated him? 3. Andruw Jones Agree, since MVP voters became enamored with his gaudy HR totals. Fielding assessments are for the scouts so I can't judge. On a historical basis, I disagree he was overrated. 4. Juan Pierre Agree. 5. Bobby Abreu Agree actually, but for different reasons. I never bought into the hustle crap of course. But Abreu's power is gone and he's not a defensive asset. 6. Brian Giles Agreed. Once underrated but reputation outweighs current ability. 7. Alfonso Soriano Agree. Currently owns .326 career OBP. 8. Richie Sexson Agree. It's easy to jump on a good hitter having a poor start. Historically however, NO hitter at his height has enjoyed successed after age 32. 9. Bob Wickman Disagree. Last had a below average ERA in 1993, and he went 14-4 while doing it. 10. Jeff Suppan Disagree. He wasn't paid $40 million on the expectation of being an ace. He got it for being an above-average reliable starter. The Brewers have not been disappointed so far. I'll come up with my own list, but I want to split the posts in doing so.

They really missed the boat on that guy, didn't they? I'll reserve judgment for now, but it appears so. You wonder though if it's honestly a bigger waste of money than $25 million (salary plus luxury tax) on Roger Clemens. Tonight I'm curious to see how the Japanese media takes to Scranton more than anything.
-
Why don't they pop for it though? Listen to Jim Cornette and he'll tell you that you can condition the crowd to pop for any move, if it's done right. Top rope maneuvers became overdone when Nitro was stocked with cruiserweights. As the moves become less common, fans will pop for them again.

Maybe from a "pure wrestling" stand point, but crowd reactions really made the PPV into a underrated classic IMO. The heat for the RVD/Cena was just too much, no crowd has ever shit on Cena this bad. Not even Toronto. When the crowd threw the shirt back at Cena, it was amazing. I enjoyed Edge/Foley Vs. Funk/Dreamer also. Agreed on RVD/Cena. I like Cena. Seeing the idea of the face champion defending his title in the challenger's arena was something we haven't seen since the NWA territory days.

That was my least favorite incarnation of the Undertaker. The music though was my favorite version of it.
-
I didn't go to last night's game with Roger Clemens. Tonight though the starting pitcher for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is none other than Kei Igawa.
